A common theme, and for good reason. Everyone had something in their past that they wanted to forget, to leave behind as though it had never existed. Many pretended that it never had. To go from a boring, plebeian life to the adventurous excitement of training, to leave behind the trials and tribulations of one's past life in favor of the automatically more glamorous adventures of Pokémon training, was a tempting proposition. Whether the new trainer had been a corporate monster with a hand in organized crime, a would-be witch, a human weapon, or simply a dying young man who wanted to make the most of what little time he had left on this mortal coil, everyone had turned to Pokémon training for different reasons. It was a world wherein the past didn't really matter so much as it did elsewhere. No one really cared what you'd done in the past or who you were or what mistakes you'd made in the murky mists of the far past, though all of those were certainly interesting subjects of gossip or ways to strengthen bonds of trust by sharing with others, but the truth - the single, unalienable, universal truth of Pokémon training was that only one thing really mattered here: how good of a trainer you were. Didn't matter if you were young or old, black or white, gay or straight, a giant or a midget. Those things could somewhat color perceptions, but the only absolute was simply that trainers could respect a better trainer, and that was that. In that way, for all that trainers embodied the best and the worst of humanity and everything in between, for all that maturity and being a good loser was occasionally in short supply, trainers as a group were perhaps the most reasonable, tolerant, and forward-thinking band of misfits in the world. Then again, trainers were also generally fiercely individualistic, valuing their freedoms more than nearly any other group, with a subtle but ironclad bond to their fellows. Whether you might be searching for friends, rivals, or simply a new start, Tohea could provide it - if you worked for it. Oh and also you just got off the ship or something and a Krabby was giving you the stink eye. Welcome to Ayer, land of the omnicidal Krabby. lvl5

Kitty stepped off the boat and immediately fell to her knees in the sand, blonde hair swinging to cover closed eyes. Dry land! God, it was a relief. She hadn't known that she had hated boats so much. You learn something new every day. She breathed in fresh, crisp seaside air and as her eyes opened and she pushed herself slowly to her feet again - and excitement filled her up absolutely to the brim. She looked at her Smoochum who stood dancing provocatively to a cluster of undoubtedly appreciative mossy rocks, and motioned for her to follow as she began to make her way from the shore up into the main town to look for her first experience as a trainer in this new, pleasant-smelling region. Looking behind her, she instinctively tried to locate the mountain outlines of Kanto that she had left behind, but there was nothing - she was far too far away. She imagined her friends back home, some wondering where she was (she hadn't told most of them that she was going, a task she had left to her boyfriend) and some - namely Scott - stewing in their own juices until they found something else to do other than obsess on her absence. She did feel guilty, of course she did. It was just something that had to have happened, and there was very little she could have done to prevent this. She was going stir crazy in that place, finding herself effectively destroying some people's lives just to satisfy her own insatiable boredom. This should help. For a while, anyway. It was her passion, right? She scanned the area for something to battle. A battle would put her right back into the trainer mindset and hopefully she could just immediately get back into the zone she had so easily slotted into back in Hoenn. Excitement pulsed through her momentarily as she imagined the journey ahead of her, and her eyes locked onto that of a Krabby's. They had a bitter, glowering staring competition for a little while, and then Kitty opened her mouth. "Jadis," she said. Her Smoochum, recognising her own name, trotted forward to blink expectantly up at her trainer. Kitty had named her after the White Witch, the Snow Queen. Hopefully she could live up to that powerful name. She would see, right now, actually. This was to be her very first battle. "Use Pound on the Krabby - it looks like it wants to play." Her little pink Pokémon squeaked in excitement and skipped over, fist raised. |

[Ref courtesy of Ether, the... okay I don't have a special title for him yet. The MP-restoring potion?] Freelance for Kitty Pryde's Journey. You left your boyfriend, set out for a new region on a boat, and finally made it to land! It's not too much to expect to be happy, in fact it was probably encouraged. But before you could even set off and explore the city you just landed in, you found yourself blocked by a rather intrepid Krabby. It shuffled back and forth crabwise, still glaring at you as if it owned the very shore that the two of you stood on. You probably could have easily walked away, ignoring the thing. It was most likely just trying to show off to some non-existent friends it had, or maybe it was just that time of the month for it. Nonetheless you made the foolhardy mistake of looking it directly in the eyes. What you perceived as a staring contest, it took as an open invitation to battle. Didn't you know that locking eyes meant battle? Thus as soon as you called the name of your cute little Pokémon Krabby made its move! The crustacean lunged forward using its left pincer to take a tight, not so playful, grip of Smoochum. It obviously looked as if it had hurt, but Jadis followed your orders without hesitation and used one of its stuby little arms to pound the crab atop its head, loosening the vice grip it had just enough to escape. Krabby swiftly shuffled backwards in retreat, kicking up tiny waves of sand as it did. Having unfortunately underestimated the power of your pint-sized powerhouse it gurgled a few words that seemed to be spoken through some sort of broken breathing apparatus, "Kooki Koooki!". What it said didn't matter too much now, but if you really wanted to know, it was probably something like; 'You hit like a girl!' Ironic words, for its was blowing half a dozen bubbles from its mouth that floated over towards Jadis, pelting her ever so annoyingly. While bubbles never really look too painful, you had to imagine they didn't seem that appealing to touch, and they probably smelt like crap breath, how ever that would smell like. But what now? Krabby certainly wasn't a pushover, perhaps you could come up with someway to turn things around. ((Waa, it's Pryde! XD)) "Holy crap!" Kitty cried, seeing her Smoochum fall to her knees pretty much the second the pathetic little bubbles popped off her skin. She did some quick calculations in her head and then her head snapped back up again to look at Jadis irritably. Although it wasn't the thing's fault, she had no excuse for being this weak, especially against a Water type move. Wasn't she an Ice type? Surely water didn't hurt her that much. But she was squeaking away on the sand, kicking her legs about. "Alright, someone needs to stop being such a drama queen," she said, pointing a stern finger in the direction of her little humanoid Pokémon. "And you," she said, turning towards the Krabby and giving it an unimpressed glance, "need to calm down a little, don't you?" She thought as quickly as she could, trying to come up with some sort of a strategy to knock this thing out before it could knock her out - an ultimately impossible feat, if she thought about it - and let them continue on to the town. Maybe she could use the sand around them, or the water, or... or... Ack, no, she had nothing. Paling a little, which was an impressive feat given her already paper-white complexion, she opened her mouth and blurted out the first thing she could think of. "If it tries to attack you again, Lick it right in the face. If you get an opening to its stomach, Pound it straight to another dimension." Well that was a pretty rubbish command. She had just doomed her own Pokémon. With a sigh, she groaned and then cried, "NO, Jad, don't do that. Run away while I think, ok?" She didn't want her to faint so early on, not to a wild Pokémon, anyway. Her Smoochum put her tongue back in her mouth and commenced the frantic running up and down the beach. Electricity, she thought. The fact that it walks sideways. She couldn't think of anything about a Krabby that could ensure a chance in this battle. Had she always been this crap? How had she ever managed to make it halfway through the Hoenn League? So she decided to do something she had never, ever tried before. She knelt down on the sand, called her Smoochum back to cower behind her, and lay out her palm covered in pokekibble. "C'mere, Krabby," she said in her kindest voice. "Don't want to fight, ok? Eat some food." She tilted her head and flashed her absolute sweetest smile, having literally no clue what she was planning. Maybe she just wanted to delay her Smoochum's KO by a couple more seconds. Anything to make her feel a little less bad about herself as a trainer. |

Well, you had definitely succeeded at confusing the hell out of the Krabby, regardless of how little you might have planned it. Was he supposed to be berserking whilst ravaging the bodies of his opponents like a scythe through a field of wheat, like any respectable Krabby mid-battle, or playing the befriend-and-betray game? That wasn't to say that he had forgotten that he had been mid-battle until very recently - the wary crustacean kept one beady eye on the fleeing Smoochum, and you had the feeling that his other eye was still paying more attention to your Pokemon than you, even if it was ostensibly surveying you with a suspicious gaze. Trainer interrupts battle midway, despite not having lost - why? If they wanted to be friends they should have done so initially. Maybe it was a new trainer trick? Were the Smoochum's actions just a ruse to lower his guard? He scuttled sideways a few feet, though better of it, and moved back partway. If there was to be a truce, no matter how temporary, he didn't want to be the one to break it. But what was the catch? While a part of him was curious to see what your motivations were, and another part was completely fine with the prospect of no more fighting, his natural paranoia kept him from acquiescing immediately. Something had to have gone wrong, but for whom, and why? The thought that Smoochum had been seriously hurt by his assault was both an inevitability - he wasn't exactly humble about his mad skillz - but didn't seem relevant; she had been able to run away just fine, so obviously she had been in perfectly good condition for a fight, right? How much of the specific reasoning behind his confusion you gathered from his eyes and movements was up in the air, but it was obvious that he was caught somewhere in between fight and friend, or at least trying to figure out which one he was supposed to be focusing on, but very wary of an ambush. If you were willing to put in some more effort, it was likely that you could very well calm him down enough to befriend him, but it wouldn't be an instantaneous process, and it would probably help if you recalled your Pokemon, at least for the time being. |

"You're a pretty little Krabby, aren't you?" Kitty said soothingly, daring to reach out and stroke the crab Pokémon's rough head. She still wasn't entirely sure what she was trying to do - she wanted the experience and she wanted her Smoochum to have confidence in herself, but she really didn't want a knockout so early on. She rummaged briefly through her bag to check if she had any healing items. A potion! She had forgotten all about it in her panic, but of course she had a potion. She chewed on her lip and then gently sprayed Jadis with it, smiling at the look of content in her Pokémon's eyes as she relaxed, the panicky shaking disappearing almost immediately. "Alright, Krabby," she said, pushing herself to her feet again and brushing the sand off her legs. "Do you want to continue with this battle? It's fine if you don't - you can just walk away and I won't bother you again. Or we can do something else, if you don't have anything better to do." She still wasn't entirely sure about her motives: she didn't necessarily want to capture the Krabby, but she did want her Smoochum to get stronger. Especially after the catastrophe that had been the last couple of minutes. Smoochum was admittedly pretty useless until it evolved anyway; did she really want to risk delaying that change any further through fainting? It was definitely something to think about. She looked back to the Krabby and waited for some sort of indication as to what was going to happen next. It didn't look as ready to fight anymore, but that didn't mean it wouldn't want a battle in good nature. A quick look to her Smoochum confirmed that she was alright with it too, if a little dazed about what was going on. One thing was for sure, she determined, as soon as this was over she would have to spend some time alone with her Pokémon for some early grinding - there was no way she was going to get anywhere in this journey if she could be so easily defeated by a tiny little Krabby three steps into Tohea. She began going through battle and training strategies in her head as she stood, weighing up movesets and battle tactics. Probably a little early, but she was excited about being in this brand new place with a brand new partner. ((Minus a potion~)) Edited by shadowcat, Oct 14 2010, 02:56 PM.

[Ether's Ref] While petting Krabby might have seemed like a good idea, he definitely would not have agreed with you. As soon as you reached down patronize him with a typically affectionate head touch, he panicked. One of those pincers attached to tiny limbs that somehow passed as arms responded by reaching up to snap at one of your fingers, hopefully you had the sense and reflexes to move your hand out of the way thus avoiding the potential embarrassment of losing a finger just minutes into Tohea. And to add further insult to Smoochum caused injury, you called him a pretty Krabby. He was king Krabbicus, ruler of these shores and he was just called pretty! Blasphemy! King Krabbicus scuttled further to the left, and a bit backwards, increasing the distance between you once more, but still he kept both you and Jadis in his sights. The tension between you and the crab was paramount, or at least the Krabby believed so. He waited for your next move, but would be shocked by your terrible actions. From that bag you held you pulled out some type of weaponry, wary your foe rose his pincers to protect himself at whatever treachery you might have been plotting. But he had little to fear, the device wasn't used on him, instead it was used on your little partner, what madness!? Who would use such device that, whatever it did, on their companion! To this tiny little, and very confused, monster you were a inhumane beast! Spraying down the foe which just took a pretty bad beating, - despite the fact Jadis probably thought the spay was pretty relaxing after the initial stinging. Krabby slowly shuffled off sideways, pincers still raised, and those tiny little eyes still watching you intensely. You did give it a chance to leave, but is that what you really wanted? The Pokémon placed the tips of two of its legs into the water. To him, he was just allowing you to pass off of his beach safely, but was still completely ready to swim away if you made another dangerous move. Well, you could count this as a victory and walk away? Jadis is still conscious and would get experience from the damage she did; and the Krabby is still... well he isn't being a jerk anymore, its probably even safe to say he has been confused into terror. If you were going to attack, or try to talk him into joining you, now would be your last chance. Either way, lots of tact would need to be involved. Kitty stood there, a little confused about what had just happened. She had arrived in Tohea and within minutes she had been attacked by a Krabby and her Smoochum had been next to knocked out. Then she had immensely bemused her own Pokémon and the poor wild Pokémon by continuously changing her mind about whether or not she wanted to befriend or attack this poor thing. "Uh," she began, assuming that by standing partially in the water and staring at her the Krabby was implying that he would leave unless she made her mind up about what she was going to do already. Kitty glanced at her shivering Smoochum and then back at the enemy. Was she alright to battle? She assumed so; she was a battling Pokémon, after all. "Alright, Jad - use Lick to try for Paralysis. Then use the shock phase to go in for another Pound, ok?" The Smoochum looked at her like she was mental. The Krabby had just about almost killed her, did her trainer really care so little about her welfare just to get more experience points? It was true that the more she battled the quicker she would evolve into the Jynx she had always wanted to be, but she wasn't entirely sure if she wanted to get so frequently beaten within an inch of her life just to get there. Kitty was beginning to wonder why she had thought only to bring a single Potion with her, and cursed her lack of forward thinking. She made a mental note to pick up as many healing items as she could afford at the next shop; she had the feeling that accompanied only by one baby Pokémon she would need them. As she watched Jadis run towards the Krabby with Lick, after the initial hesitation and backwards glance at her trainer, she thought about moves she could teach to her. Ice Punch and Zen Headbutt seemed like the most sensible options, and definitely sounded like moves that would be within Jadis' realms for learning. They'd see: she'd be unstoppable. Despite the initial setback of having a pretty rubbish companion. |

You liar! Telling the Krabby he didn't have to battle with you if he didn't want to, and even worse sending your Pokémon that pretty much got its backside handed to it by the very unlikely gladiator, but for some reason she still felt the need to obey. King Krabbicus stood his ground as the ever so adorable Smoochum approached him. He wasn't sure what to expect, but he held his ground like any good ruler would, ready to fight back, or flee at a moments notice. The first attack went off without a hitch, the wet and rather awkward tongue gave the crustacean a good licking! Though not all plans go as they should, Krabby did not become paralyzed by the lick attack, he was just given a very awkward bath, in swift, but awkward retaliation, it extended one of its oversized pincers and used it to take a good grip of your poor Pokémon's skull. Jadis squirmed around in the pinch for a moment, flailing about trying to get loose, but it was all for naught. Eventually her body went limp and as the Krab released her she fell down into the sand, defeated. Feeling Victorious, and knowing when to make a good retreat, Krabbicus moved into the water, diving underneath the surface of the waves and wholly disappearing for sight. It was rather unfortunate, but often some battles have bad endings. For now, your best bet would be to rush off to the nearest Pokémon center and get treatment for your defeated Smoochum. Perhaps if you came back here later on in the day, you could get revenge on Krabbicus and the dishonor he brought to you and your Pokémon. The nearest Pokémon Center would probably be the one in Downtown, it wouldn't be entirely too far from you, and if you asked, plenty of people would probably be willing to point you in the correct direction. ((I still get a tiny bit of EXP, right? =3)) Kitty's eyes narrowed as she saw how this had turned out. Her only Pokémon had fainted and her opponent had fled, and now she was literally alone, vulnerable and a little lost in a new, unfamiliar region. She didn't know anyone here, didn't know anything about this place. Just what exactly was she supposed to do now? She didn't know where to go, and she couldn't get any more training done with an unconscious Pokémon. She supposed that now would be a great time to start regretting not having a map. Recalling her Smoochum with a flick of her wrist, she turned on her heel and strode off of the shore and up into the main part of town, looking around for somebody trustworthy-looking who could either lend her a Revive (why hadn't she brought any? Was she stupid?) or just point her in the direction of a Pokémon Centre or Mart. Squinting about for the familiar red or blue roofs, she subconsciously kept her fingertips pressed against the pokeball in her pocket. What she really needed was a team. A whole horde of Pokémon who worked hard for her and did everything she asked. Pokémon who didn't faint after a tiny little pinch from a pathetic little crab. It was her first step into Tohea. Her Smoochum was clearly under average when it came to Pokémon. She would have to either train her relentlessly for a while, or catch a new one straight away. There was no way she was going to get anywhere with Jadis as she was now. She spotted someone in the street who didn't look as busy as the others who strode up and down, and darted over to them, sidestepping other pedestrians. "Excuse me," she said, "I've only just arrived here, and something kinda bad happened to me and my Pokémon. I'm completely lost, could you point me in the direction of a Pokémon Centre?" She flashed her most trustworthy smile, tilting her head a little. Looks can be deceiving. |

It did burn to lose your first battle on a new continent. But at least you were doing the responsible thing and trying to get your poor fainted Pokémon healed up, rather than ditch her and find something stronger. Whether this was because you believed in her inner potential strength, or just because you didn't want to risk having to start from below square one... well, that was the sort of thing only you could know, right? But anyway. Picking apart your motivations aside, you were looking for help! The not-so-busy person you'd picked out of the crowd was a short, white haired little lady, wearing a not really fashionable flowery dress and a shawl. An absolutely ancient looking Skitty sat beside her, sniffing at the flowers in a decorative pot at the base of a lamp post. "Oh, you poor dear..." she said, her voice a little creaky, but kind. "I remember the first time Mr. Tiddles lost a fight..." She seemed about to tell you the whole story, but then perhaps noticed the earnest, open expression on your face and interpreted it as worry for your Pokémon. "But maybe we'll have that conversation another time, dear. The Pokémon Center is just down to the next corner, then two blocks to your left. You can't miss it. They'll probably even have some cookies to make you feel better." She patted your arm, the Skitty at her side seeming completely oblivious to the discussion, and you in general. Maybe it was deaf. Or perhaps it had fallen asleep... It did seem to have lain down in the flower pot. Perhaps it was time to leave the slightly dotty old woman and her napping Skitty behind. At least the Pokémon Center was close, according to her. She was probably being accurate, actually. That Skitty of hers looked pretty frail, and it must need regular checkups. Perhaps even the rumor of cookies was true... free cookies always made everything better, right? |

When the woman pointed her in the direction of the Pokémon Centre, Kitty let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. "Thank you," she said, with a genuine smile this time. "Thanks." Turning on her heel she jogged in the direction she had been pointed in, and sure enough after a few minutes the familiar red roof loomed into view and she stopped, resting a hand on a nearby lamppost and catching her breath. When she stepped in, she handed over her Smoochum's pokeball to the nurse and waited for her to be returned, having a quick sandwich in the lobby while she waited. She gratefully accepted her back when the nurse returned her, and released her. "Smoo?" she said curiously, looking around. She had never been inside one of these Centres before, clearly. Kitty stood and jerked her head towards the door in a slightly disapproving way of saying, 'we're going now.' Jadis trotted along behind her, cooing her appreciation at being healed and cared for by these nurses. Kitty ignored her, and led her all the way out of the building and into a small park area. "We can't have that happening again," she said, turning to face her Pokémon, hands on hips. The Smoochum looked up at her, eyes wide and mouth fixed open in a little 'o'. "Do you agree?" The little thing nodded rapidly. "Good. So we're going to try to teach you a new move. How does Ice Punch sound?" Jadis nodded again, and flailed her arms about as if to demonstrate how close she was to learning the move. Kitty sighed. "Clench your fists." "Smoochy," the Pokémon said, doing something with her hands that was rather impressive, it had to be said, but was definitely nothing like a fist. "No, a fist. A punching fist. Like this." Kitty clenched her own fist and swung out, punching the air. Jadis squealed with excitement and imitated. "Good, but clench it tighter," she encouraged. The Smoochum sqeezed her little fist together, puffing out her cheeks in determination, and swung with all her might. "Look, look at this." Kitty sat down on the floor, cross-legged, and brought out a lighter from her pocket. Why she had a lighter wasn't clear - she didn't smoke. She lit the lighter and handed it over to her Pokémon, who took it with an uncertain blink, and looked up at her. "Ok, you gotta hold that still. Don't move, don't flinch, nothing. Ok? Just watch me." The Smoochum held the lit lighter up and at arms' length (not very far) and watched her trainer. Kitty stretched out her arm, took a couple of deep breaths, and then swung her fist, stopping just centimetres away from the flame. It went out. Jadis looked confused, and dropped the lighter. "If the force of your punch is strong enough to create enough air to put out the flame on the lighter, then we'll be halfway there. Understood?" There was a bemused hesitation, and then a rapid nod. "Good! Ok, now you try. You won't get it the first time, but don't give up." Kitty held up the lighter and lit it, and Jadis pumped her little fist in its direction. The flame barely bobbed. With a kind smile, Kitty kept it held out, and she tried again. The flame, again, hardly registered any sort of disturbance in the air. "It helps if you stretch first," Kitty suggested, stretching out her own arm and rotating her shoulder. Jadis copied, stretching her muscles and moving her shoulders about. "Now try again." There was a noticeable bob in the flame this time, and Kitty patted her Pokémon on the head. "Harder, come on." The flame bobbed again, and Jadis squealed in happiness, making Kitty laugh. "Try pulling your arm behind you first, then pushing it out from there." Jadis pulled back her arm behind her, and then slammed it forwards with a 'smoo!' of exertion. The flame bobbed even harder, and Kitty clapped her hand on her thigh with a grin. What else could she do to improve the force of her punch? With tiny Smoochum arms like that they needed all the help they could get with this attack. Kitty had done martial arts for a couple of years when she was younger, and remembered vaguely 'how to punch' and 'how to kick', but tiny Pokémon fists were different. However, she reasoned, the Smoochum was humanoid enough to be able to follow the basic principle of the punch. She stood up, pocketing the lighter for now. She would have to demonstrate how to move her body. "Watch this, ok? You gotta move your whole body when you punch. Start with one leg in front, like this. Go on. Yeah. Then go into a, like, battle stance like this. Kind of; remember your balance. Yes, that's alright. Have your arm in a ninety degree angle over here. What? No, that's not even close to 90 degrees, is it? Like this! Yeah, ok. That's fine. Ok, you swing it around like this - do it too - and aim for a weak spot on your opponent like the solar plexus here, the jaw, or maybe the shin if they're taller. Got it? Yeah, try again. Bring it back, and then swing outwards while pivoting your hips at the same time." Jadis was doing fine, but the balance thing threw her off and she toppled over, face in the grass. She squirmed free and then immediately jumped back into battle stance, arm behind her, glowering forwards. Kitty smiled at her determination. That was what she wanted from a Pokémon. "Yep, ok, so your weight. You should put your weight on your front foot like this, and then twist your torso while you punch to give you more power. Hey, no, your arm should stay in that 90 degree angle until it smacks into them. Yes! Like that, exactly. Then you've got to follow through and extend your arm after it hits. Pretend you've hit them. Yeah, now- ok, great. Do it again but faster. Remember where to put your weight, and remember to twist yourself like this. Ok, you can do it like that. Yeah! Even faster now. And bring it back. Punch, and bring it back. Harder now. Punch. Punch. Punch." She giggled at the sight of her tiny Smoochum slamming her fists through the air like a Fighting Pokémon, and then sat down again to pat her on the head. "Try this again," she said, pulling the lighter out. She lit it. "Now do everything you just did, but even harder. Imagine the Pokémon you hate most in the world is right in front of you. Imagine that if you punched them hard enough, they'd explode and be gone forever. Imagining?" Jadis, glaring, nodded, still in battle stance. "Ok, now...ready? Three...two...one. Punch!" The Smoochum threw her fist forward with actually quite formidable strength, but Kitty had forgotten about the follow through. Her fist made contact with the lighter which flew through the air and skittered across the pavement far away. Kitty laughed. "Well that's one way of doing it," she said with a shrug, and went to retrieve it. "We have to figure out how to do the Ice part, though," she said when she returned. "And I can't help you so much with that. How are you with controlling your icy powers so far?" she asked. Jadis replied by breathing out. Her breath hung like a cloud in the air momentarily and then faded. The Smoochum shrugged, embarrassed. "Ah, so you can control the temperature inside you, but not really outside?" she asked. Jadis nodded. "What we need to figure out is how to coat your fist with ice. Do you think you can do that?" There was a pause, and the Pokémon looked at her hand, then back up at Kitty, and then drooped a little. "I think you can," Kitty said matter-of-factly. "But I think we should take a break first. Maybe get you a little experience before we try again." Jadis nodded slowly, looking at the ground. When Kitty turned around and walked ahead, looking around for either something that would assist her Pokémon in learning how to control the Ice powers in her or something that would help her to toughen up in general, she sloped along behind her. She concentrated as hard as she could on creating frost on her skin, but nothing happened. She did get extremely cold, though, and shivered violently as she ran to catch up. Tiny flakes of frost dotted her back. |

Humanoid or no, whoever had invented martial arts had not been a Smoochum, that was for sure. For starters, punches worked better with arms that could actually, y'know, do stuff, rather than tiny nubs that would be great for... something midget-related, but not exactly a vicious right hook. Nevertheless, they were still arms, so they could still punch, and stubby arms certainly didn't hold the little death-fairy back from learning how to hold herself when punching. You were definitely on the right track there, but let's be honest, it was a Smoochum, not a Hitmonchan. Masterful uppercuts were technically possible, but not exactly their normal modus operandi, so it was going to take a bit of practice for her to get the whole srs bizness punching thing down pat. Something to practice, anyways. Much like the whole... y'know, ice thing. Ice-type or no, Jadis had exactly no idea how to pull off a legitimate Ice move; she could barf up a very weak blast of inchoate frost energy, but she was still a while away from being able to do anything badass with it, much less use it physically. You might be better off teaching her a stepping stone, a weaker Ice-type move to get her used to utilizing the energy effectively before going for a relatively strong Ice Punch; on the other hand, teaching her to pull off a proper Ice Punch this early would be both A. bragging rights and B. make any other Ice-type moves a LOT easier to learn, if only from her experience in learning this one. All that said, at least Jadis was making an honest effort to turn herself into the Abominable Snowmidget, if her constipated look and the occasional puff of coldness was any indication. Not that she was actually getting anywhere with it just yet, but you know what they say - practice makes perfect! Alternatively, keep trying to turn yourself into a popsicle until you succeed. Both very reasonable alternatives. Also on an unrelated note there was like a Pidgey or something if you wanted a fight. Staring. Into your soul. Lazy eye. lvl5[Ice Punch is a very interesting move to start out learning - kudos on going for it. Yer hobbled by lack of anything ice-type and Smoochum's general lack of puncheyness, but you definitely did an excellent job of working through the basics of stuff, so I'm going to say around 20% learned. I'd like to say more, but move tutor, fairly strong, no real steeping-stone moves...] |

((lol'd)) Kitty wasn't too put off by the fact that her little Pokémon was having trouble learning the move. She knew that it wasn't especially her fault as a trainer, but more the fact that Jadis' general anatomical structure was going to get in their way for a few of these moves. If she was going to be of any use in helping her learn things, her only help would come from her martial arts training, and that was pretty much punching and kicking, something that a Smoochum wouldn't have the easiest time learning with stubby little limbs. Luckily, though, she spotted a Pidgey somewhere on the ground ahead of her, seemingly eyeing her up. That would be perfect practice for any sort of an Ice type move, wouldn't it? Excited, she motioned to her Pokémon for her attention, and the Smoochum turned to look up at her with partially open mouth. "Ok, Jad. You know the drill. Run up with a Pound attack, and..." She paused, blinking a little. "Couldn't you try to turn Pound into a sort of Ice Pound?" Her Pokémon shrugged emphatically, and ran over to the Pidgey. Her breath came in clouds of steam that hung in the air before disappearing, and she swung at the poor, unsuspecting little pigeon Pokémon with her - frankly iceless - stumpy fist. At least she was trying. Kitty watched as the Pound attack was readied, and wondered just how similar pounding a fist straight down onto an opponent was to hooking it across their body with some sort of follow-through. The mechanics should essentially be the same, just...uh...different. Then there was the problem with the Ice. She was trying to be supportive, but secretly, what the hell? What kind of an Ice type Pokémon doesn't know how to get all icy? Fire types naturally produce fire; fighting types are born knowing how to throw a punch. Why was her Smoochum being difficult? |
