The Real McKoi
Gabriel could hardly believe that he had come out of the experience relatively unscathed, and had been successful in retrieving the battered Poochyena. As he stood there, panting from the sheer heat of the building he looked down at the poor, damaged creature. Before he had a chance to do anything else, his quickly snapped back to the fact that there was a towering inferno right behind him and the building would in all likelihood be crumbling into nothing but rubble soon and there was no way they'd all be safe at that distance. The young man considered for a moment going back to help the officers again, should they need it, but at that point their immediate lack of safety was his primary concern.

"Raj, Meowth, you did great, now let's get the hell out of here!" his voice had some semblance of admiration to it, for he was quite grateful to his two companions for their help, but it had a distinct hint of panic in it as well. He gave the two Pokémon a determined nod before rushing away from the broken structure that continued to weaken from the raging flames. Once the lot of them were well out of range of the building, Gabriel stopped, drawing in deep breaths of the smokeless air.

"You're both so wonderful, thank you for your help," he said with an endearing look on his face as he collapsed to his knees, the adrenaline rush finally wearing off, though his heart continued to pound strong in his chest. He slowly took his right arm from underneath the heap of dark canine he was holding and extended it out to Meowth, gently scratching her neck, at which she gave the slightest hint of a rumble; nearly a purr but Meowth hardened herself to the caress as she attempted to remind herself that this was the person who had just cost her freedom, but this looming disdain continued to weaken with his gentle touch. In the mean time Gabriel turned his toward Raj, who at this point was still emitting a decent volume of flames that steadily licked the pavement beneath him. "I'd give you a good scratch too, but I don't want to burn myself," he said, with a sympathetic smile. "You're so brave, and you really saved me in there. I don't think I would've made it without you absorbing all of that heat." Raj barked in recognition, again wagging his tail at his master's approval, though it drooped a bit as he did like having his head sctratched ever-so-much.

Gabriel at last turned his attention of the lump of fur that lay in his arms. "You'll be alright, my dear, but we'll have to get you fixed up soon." Gabe's arms quivered in sympathy as he looked down at the serious bruises, singes, and marks all over the creature. "It looks like you and I have been through some similar disasters, it's ironic that fire and water can both be so powerful and yet so beautiful..." his words trailed off at the thought, and he decided to leave things just as they were.

"We'd better get back to the Pokémon center, now that I've caught my breath. This little guy is going to need some serious attention with the nurses;" his voice was low and full of concern as she slowly stretched his legs back into a standing position. "Let's get going," he said at last, and began striding back in the direction they had come from, toward the Pokémon center they had visited only a short while ago.

Time flows like a river... and history repeats.

It seemed to be only a few moments ago that you'd had to take one new partner to the Pokécenter in critical condition, and yet here you were again, already waddling back that way with another Pokémon in tow. The Poochyena, for his part, was all kinds of out of it, which wasn't exactly surprising given the massive damage he was suffering from. On the plus side, at least it let you carry him without any trouble, and your Pokémon trailed behind, the Meowth keeping a wide berth from the walking bonfire that was your Growlithe.

The Pokécenter was only maybe a dozen blocks away, which probably seemed a bit longer given that you were carting around thirty pounds of tenderized meat but wasn't a particularly long walk in and of itself. It was long enough for Growlithe's little heat problem to dissipate into the evening air, which meant that the volume of looks you'd been getting from passerby died down pretty quickly. By the time you were at the Pokécenter, it was business as usual - just another trainer with a beaten to hell Pokémon.

Not that the blandly pretty nurse working the magic machine was particularly amused by your appearance, or the lack of Pokeballs. "What happened to that poor dog? Is this something to do with that fire a few blocks away? I heard sirens, and apparently there was a power outage, but - oh, whatever. Please recall your Pokémon so I can heal them, blabla the usual nurse schtick." She looked at you appraisingly. "...This DOES have something to do with that fire, doesn't it? How close did you get? Do they know what happened there yet?"

"Terribly sorry, ma'am," Gabriel said sheepishly with his brow furrowed apologetically. "I went to help with that fire yeh mentioned, but things 'er a lot worse than I thought. Found him collapsed inside & couldn't stop myself from diving in after 'im," Gabriel's words were somewhat more taxing than usual; it seemed the excitement of the day had worn the boy out more than he realized. He continued, however, trying to give the nurse the full story behind his current situation. "It was pretty foolish, thinking back on it, but I just couldn't leave him there. He's.... he's not really mine though, so..." he couldn't help but trail off, assuming his next confession might cause some issues with the nurse. "So I don't have a ball for him, and... well I'd feel kind of guilty catching him when he's like this."

Gabriel admittedly was hoping that the small dog might choose to join him after his recovery, but he wanted the pooch to decide for himself on that account. He'd already forced one Pokémon into servitude and was feeling the subtle hints from his feline companion that she still held some resentment toward him for that. He was quite grateful, though, that she had not bolted when she had the chance. Gabriel realized that the chances that the small dog would join him were probably pretty slim, as it was barely if at all conscious when he rescued the poor creature. Nevertheless, he'd try to make his course when the pup came to... assuming the nurse would be able to help him while he was still a wild Pokémon.

"You can help him, righ'? Even if e' doesn't have a ball?" Gabriel reserved himself to using one of his few empty pokeballs if it was the only way of helping the Poochyena. Nevertheless, his consideration shifted back to the other creatures that trailed him. "Oh, and these two should be fine, they weren't hurt in the incident." Gabriel smiled at the thought that his own companions left the impromptu adventure unscathed, aside from the bonfire that had become his Growlithe... but seeing as that was no longer an issue for the pup, he was sure that his companion had suffered no real harm.

"Oh, my. I heard a huge crash a little bit ago, I assumed it was the building falling apart. I'm glad that you weren't hurt though, and that you managed to rescue him. Very brave of you, young man." She smiled at you, trying to show the sincerity in her words. Needless to say it was pretty obvious that you'd grown on her a bit since the first part of the meaning - funny what a few well-chosen words can do for a situation. For better or for worse, though fortunately you'd chosen the ones that led to friendlier relations. She heard your further explanation, and pondered for a moment.

"...I understand. We do have facilities for taking care of wild Pokémon, of course, but the heal-o-matic only takes Pokeballs. Trainer Pokémon, effectively, since they're by far our primary concern. Both for sanitation - otherwise the more badly hurt ones would be bleeding all over the machine every time we jammed them in there - and so that larger numbers of Pokémon can fit inside at once. It's the difference between healing your entire team at once and having to do them one by one, then denying your Onix, if you had one, healing because it didn't fit inside." The nurse sighed. "Of course, the machinery isn't perfect, and serious injuries sometimes require personal care. For all our so-called technology, the best bet to cure a badly injured Pokémon is still pretty much the same as a century ago, even if we can use better tech to make it more comfortable now."

"So. Yes, we can help him. But it'll take some time... you may wish to come back later. If so, may I have a name so when you come to check up on him, the nurse on duty knows which Pokémon? Or you can stay here, I can't really give you an accurate estimate on how long it will take to treat him without a thorough examination, but it looks like he took enough damage that it will take some time, and he may be out of commission for a few days."

At the nurse's comment, the young man considered again for a moment giving in and simply capturing the wounded creature, but he was adamant in his decision not to force the Pokémon into compliance.

"That'll be fine, ma'am, as long as you can help him. I'll gladly leave 'im in your most capable hands." He gave the young woman a gentle smile and then, as an afterthought, added "My name's Gabriel, by the way. Thank you so much for looking after him." Gabe was positively beaming at the nurse, though for reasons he couldn't begin to explain. Relief had overtaken him, as well as pride in the decisions that had led him to this point.

With this, Gabe turned his attention back to his two fully-intact companions, hoping to poll the ranks for ideas about how to keep themselves busy until their charge was back to full strength. "So, my firends, shall we go for an evening stroll?" He said with a warm tone, gently running his fingers through the soft fur on the two creatures' heads. Each of them melted into the touch, their eyes drooping slightly, seemingly quite exhausted from the day's events. Then again it could just be the simple comfort that came with his touch that brought on the nearly euphoric look from the two of them. "I'd love to check back on that fire we got ourselves involved in, see if they ever managed to put it out... but it looks like you guys are about ready for bed. Perhaps I'd better put you back in your balls," he said quietly, his words losing volume but maintaining their feeling as he spoke.

Meowth shuddered for a moment as she thought about what Gabriel had just suggested... a pokeball... confinement... Her wide eyes stretched to their full size once again and Gabriel took immediate notice of the tension she showed. "You don't have to..." he corrected himself quickly, hoping to dispel the feline's mood. As she thought about it further, the same conflict arose just as it had when she was first struggling for her freedom at their initial meeting. The turmoil bubbled through her mind but something pierced through it; it was the boy's gentle touch. He began caressing her again as her muscles tensed and his compassion seemed to show through his touch. This quickly melted the intensity with which Meowth was staring at him, his words continuing to echo in her mind, and at last she resigned herself to be 'put away,' as it was. Her head drooped and she mewed quietly, showing in her own way that she would accept being put back in the pokeball, particularly given that exhaustion was claiming her.

"Well alright then," he said; somehow he seemed to understand what this small gesture meant, and pulled two balls from his belt. In a flash of light the two creatures were gone and the small items replaced at the young man's side. He stood swiftly and with one last nod and a smile at the nurse in whom he had just placed the care of the wounded Poochyena , he spun on his heel and strolled nonchalantly out the door.

The nurse waved you off before carting the Poochyena off into the mysterious back of the Pokécenter, presumably for the magic happy fun-times that would doubtless ensue. After all, they were only going to probably operate on the poor puppy, given the degree of internal damage it had taken, just a bloody good time for all. At least you'd done the right thing by getting it into a proper medical facility, and sticking to your morals. Which could prove useful in the future...

You made your way back to the scene of the fire without any real trouble; the crowds had thinned somewhat as the fire proper died down, if the lack of a raging inferno was anything to judge by. By the time you got there, it was primarily rapid response personnel and a few police officers standing around, poking through rubbish or getting statements from a few passerby and several of the workers. There were a few civilians still standing around or strolling past, and snippets of their conversations wafted lazily through the evening air. "I heard that it was a chemical fire, this guy I know who used to work at a fire station said that normal fires never burn through things that fast" "Or maybe it was electrical? Could explain how the fire spread so quickly."

The rescue worker conversations were similar, completely unsurprisingly also mostly revolving around the fire. Not that you'd expect much else from bored workers on break at the scene of the fire. You gathered that no casualties had been found so far, but supposedly someone had heard something shortly before the house fell in on itself and so several of the on-duty workers were still poking around. There was also a civilian - a man, middle-aged, slightly balding brown hair with grey specks, otherwise in fairly good shape, though apparently close to a mental breakdown - wildly gesticulating and talking intensely to one of the police officers, who noticed you and waved you over after a nearby rescue worker pointed you out.

He looked to be in his late twenties or early thirties, fairly good shape, blonde hair in a crew cut. Probably not one of the donut-lovers if his muscular, fat-free form was any indication. "Alexis here-" he motioned vaguely to the female rescue worker nearby "-says that you helped out a bit during the fire, went in to help one of the workers than disappeared. Thank you for your help, seriously. I don't think anyone knows what happened yet but there was actually a pretty serious communication disruption and somehow the police department never actually got notified of the fire until someone physically walked in, so we're here to investigate possible foul play." He shrugged, unperturbed. "There's been some talk of a chemical fire, but the excavation hasn't started yet so no official word. Anyways, I called you over because I was hoping you could help out again, this time just with a bit of information. Doctor Hartmann here, the owner of the house, claims that he left his Pokémon in the house. Probably a long shot, but would you have happened to see either a Porygon or Poochyena?"

[I'm just going with the flow here, no real plot, just a dude who'd be really happy to find out that his Poochy is fine]

The Real McKoi
[got it, thanks ^_^]

Gabriel's feet seemed to lead him on without any real conscious though. Something about that place drew him toward it, or perhaps it was simply his muscles remembering where they had just been back and forth to earlier in the day. When he arrived, he was pleased to notice that there was no longer a conflagration billowing before him, though it seemed that very little of the structure held up against the powerful assault of the flames. Along with the dousing of the fire, it seemed the flow of people had ebbed, no longer a brightly burning beacon to attract their attention. Conversation buzzed around the young man, everyone wondering how the fire was started and what all had happened. Gabriel found himself wondering the same thing, though admittedly his curiosity was not so strong that he felt the need to join into any particular conversation; instead he saw fit to inconspicuously eavesdrop as he passed by the huddles of humanity that freckled the scene.

Before long, Gabriel noticed that a particular man was much more heated than the rest of the low din that was vaguely humming around him, and as his attention turned there, he realized that he was being beckoned over to the man. Gabe was hesitant at first, but the man seemed less crazed than he initially thought after closer inspection, and so he decided it was safe to approach. When the boy arrived, he was immediately thrust into the conversation, simply following along quietly. It wasn't until he introduced another man by the name of Dr. Hartmann, than his interest was truly piqued. It seemed quite likely that the poor, battered animal that Gabriel had rescued belonged to the man, which in retrospect seemed rather obvious, though he hadn't considered this possibility before. It seemed that his conviction had served him rather well, seeing as the Pokémon he nearly tried to capture in order to speed the healing process along belonged to another man. He considered for a moment what would have happened if he had tried to capture it... for Gabriel was as of yet unsure how exactly pokeballs worked and what effects the imprinting process had on the creatures, but ultimately he realized that the two men had been standing there waiting for him as he was lost in thought.

"Yeh," he finally blurted out awkwardly, suddenly coming to comprehend the anticipation that the two pairs of eyes held. "I did find a Poochyena while ah was in there. It was collapsed inside one a' the rooms on the first floor. I dove in after it with the help of my two Pokémon and we managed to get it out a' the wreckage before the house collapsed." Gabriel's eyes shone brightly as he spoke to Dr. Hartmann, truly grateful that he had the chance to save this man's companion. The Gaelic brogue showing through in his pronunciation stronger than usual, possibly from fatigue or the excitement he held in his heart. "He was pretty badly hurt so I got 'im to the center as fast as I could. The nurse should be takin' care of 'im now. She said he'd be ahrigh' so you've got nothin' to worry about. I can take you over to see 'im if you want me to, but she did say it might be a while before he'd be back on full." He paused for a moment, reconsidering what the man had initially said... there were two Pokémon missing but Gabriel had only found one. His memory jumped back to the incident and he recalled the shrill cry he heard just before bolting from the scene. He had no idea who or what had made the noise, but it was clear that whatever it was had been in serious pain and likely didn't make it out of the building on time. Gabriel's breath drew shorter at the thought of the man's Porygon being caught in the crumbling house.
"I canna say abou' the other one, your Porygon. He wasn't with the pooch when I saw 'im and I got outta here righ' quick. I do hope its ahrigh' though." Gabriel's voice was full of sympathy as he spoke; he couldn't bring himself to tell the man about the sound he had heard. "One thing I can say for sure though, yer pooch is gonna be fine."

Murmuring something about leaving the two of you alone for now, the first man backed away to talk to one of the officials gathering information about the fire. If you wanted to give a statement about what had occured at the fire, you could seek out one of them once you were done speaking with the doctor. It probably wouldn't take long, but as you were a civilian volunteer, and there was at least one witness who saw you came in after the fire was already well established, it was extremely unlikely you were under suspicion for anything. Especially since you'd rescued the owner's beloved Pokémon...

Dr. Hartmann was a man on the slightly older side of middle aged, and his moderately lined face crumpled with a combination of pain and relief at your words. ""Oh... oh, thank you... I was so worried I'd lost them both..." He drew a deep, slightly ragged breath, and smiled at you. "Well... I can't help but hope there are more people as selfless as you in the world. And you didn't even take the opportunity to capture him!" You had obviously made a friend in Dr. Hartmann. It never hurt to have more friends.

"Listen... I really would like to go see him. You don't have to come with me if you have something else to do, you've already done so... so much for me. And for Jeeves. That's his name, my Poochyena..." Obviously torn between over almost overwhelming relief about his Poochyena and intense grief for the Porygon that he knew must not have made it out of the building, he was babbling slightly. Still, he seemed like a decent person... not the least because he seemed just as joyful about the common Poochyena surviving as the incredibly rare Porygon. While he probably didn't need your help to make it to the Pokémon Center, he would also probably be grateful for your company. Plus, the Nurse at the Center was expecting you to come back for the scorched Poochyena, and it might go smoother with you there.

A swell of pity rose in Gabriel as he tried to empathize with the man, but truth be told he could scarcely imagine the pain that he was in. Gabriel couldn't bear losing any of his companions, even though he only had two of them at the moment; he already felt a connection with each creature that he hoped would grow and blossom as they continued their journey together and even the thought of losing either one of them turned his stomach to stone. He wanted very badly to help this unfortunate man, and he thought that the least he could do was walk with him back to the Pokémon center.

"I'd be happy to take you there, sir. I'd like to see how the little pup is doing meself, and I certainly wouldn't mind the company," he said warmly, forcing a smile to his face. He motioned for the man to walk with him and slowly made his way back in the direction of the center. Before leaving the vicinity of the home-turned-rubble, Gabriel considered talking to the police about what he'd witnessed, but as he considered this deeper he decided that this Dr. Hartmann was his primary concern now. After all, he had hardly seen anything that would help the police given that he didn't even arrive at the scene until after the blaze was going strong. Gabe put the incident behind him and focused on his new mission: doing all he could to support his new friend. As they walked together, Gabriel told stories of his Pokémon, his family and the little island he grew up on. "When we get back to the center, you'll have to meet Raj, he's mah Growlithe that I grew up with. I have a Meowth too; I just caught 'er but she's a lovely creature. I bet they'd get along well with Jeeves... well Raj would anyway, he loves to play around. Meowth would prob'ly just get aggrivated cause she still hasn't quite warmed up to me much yet; I've been workin' on tha' a bit though." Gabriel went on to share tales of roaring fires and folk dances and he suddenly recalled that a he was carrying a piece of his past and of his home with him on his very back. With all of the excitement that had happened since arriving on Tohea, he'd forgotten all about the primary contents of the black, rectangular case strapped to his back.

"Yeh know, I have ma fiddle here wit' me if you want to hear it. Maybe after the pup's back to tops again maybe I could play a lick for yeh. I'm sure it'd raise your spirits. Music has always been a passion of mine, and its one of the few ways I've learned to really share my heart with folks aside meself. I'm sure mah two Pokémon would love to hear it as well; I han't played for Raj in a long while." The young man's heavy heart had lightened with the memories he had shared, and at the thought of playing his violin again; it had been so long since he'd played it that he was a bit worried his fingers wouldn't remember what to do, but the anticipation was still enough to bring an smile to the boy's face that he couldn't suppress.

[Thanks to Hoshi for a truly immense degree of help in this, to say the least. I had total writer's block for some reason.]

The older man smiled and nodded politely to your words, glad for the companionship as both of you walked back towards the Pokémon Center. The crowds of people grew thinner as you walked away from the area of the incident, the afternoon breeze gently carrying the occasional smell of sea breeze. The air felt slightly chiller, yet the sun was still high in the sky; daylight would last for some more time, at least, before night came to Tohea. Doctor Hartmann’s shoulders, previously impossibly tense, seemed to relax slightly as he followed your conversation; while he wasn’t much of a talker, he listened attentively to your stories, a smile slowly filling his face as you spoke of your family’s ranch. The worry that creased his forehead seemed to diminish, at least, though his eyes still spoke volumes of his internal turmoil.

"I’d like to meet both of them," he said warmly, in response to your words. He raised his hand, letting it rest on your shoulder for a moment, before continuing. “Both must be pretty amazing Pokémon, just like their trainer. And I just know Jeeves will enjoy having a few new friends; that pup can’t stand sitting still for a minute. He’ll be up and yapping around as soon as he recovers, that’s for sure!” The doctor’s hand fell to his side as his mind wandered back to his Pokémon, his expression turning unreadable for a moment before his smile returned. Clearly, he was still worried about his partners.

Before long, the two of you arrived back at the Pokémon Center; time seemed to have sped up during your conversation, the doctor having shown a surprising interest in music. Apparently, he also liked to play, though it was more of a hobby than a passion to him. “Hey, I’m sure that’ll be great. I used to play the flute from time to time, but I haven’t done so in a while. There was pressing research to be conducted, you see, and I always kept putting it off. It was in the house’s attic anyways; I’m pretty sure it’s lost now. “ Doctor Hartmann sighed wistfully for a moment, before focusing his eyes on you once more. “ I’d be honored to listen to one of your songs.”

The center’s automatic doors slid open with just the slightest of sounds, as the well-oiled mechanism pulled them open. The nurse seemed busy with some paperwork; she didn’t even look up as she furiously scribbled on a notebook, standing next to the counter, her scowl indicating that maybe her mood wasn’t the best at the moment. The center seemed to be busier, too; the waiting benches were full of people, and two kids ran around as they played tag, screaming loudly from time to time. A young boy, apparently around ten, walked up to you as you entered, grinning cheekily. “Hey, back again? I’ve seen you come into this center three times today so far. You must be a pretty awful trainer, if your Pokémon keep getting hurt so easily!” He paused as he shrugged indifferently, a smirk firmly in place on his face. “I bet you can’t beat me, the great Darry, in a battle!” Doctor Hartmann scowled at the young boy, his bright mood deteriorating rapidly as the boy continued to speak. Apparently, your companion wasn’t exactly happy to hear the kid’s speech, but who could blame him?

Gabriel was a bit surprised at himself for being so verbose; he was usually very quiet but something in the young man could see that Dr. Hartmann was in no mood to talk for himself, so he seemed to take over naturally. He was quite happy to hear from the doctor that he wanted to meet his Pokémon, but even moreso was Gabriel excited to learn that he was also a musician. It seemed the two men had more in common that it first appeared and this made Gabriel feel ever closer to his newfound friend.

As the pair finally made it back to the Pokémon center, it seemed that a lot had been going on since he'd left. The nurse at the counter seemed incredibly busy, not to mention her demeaner suggested that she was in a rather foul mood. As such, Gabriel decided it might not be the best idea to inquire about Jeeves just yet, for fear he would losr his head in the process. As he considered this, a young boy came speeding up to him, inquiring (somewhat sarcastically) about what he was doing there... again, as though he had come time after time getting trounced in a fight or some such nonsense. Gabriel thought about telling the kid what all had happened during the day, but he simply rolled his eyes at the boy. Looking over at his new companion, he could feel Dr. Hartmann's mood turning sour once again and wanted in the worst way to keep his spirits up. He decided to go for the route of sarcasm, hoping to show Dr. Hartmann that the young boy's words had hardly perturbed him and with any luck the nonchalant attitude would rub off on him.

"Am I to take tha' as a challenge?" he said plainly, smiling at the boy. "Oi, I suppose it migh' be fun te have another battle for today. Yeh sure yer up for it though? If I'm so bad it migh' not even be worth the time." With this, Gabriel turned his attention back to Dr. Hartmann, smiling. Once again he hoped his light-heartedness would rub off on the man. "This migh' be a good way for yeh to meet my companions, though that does mean we migh' have to put the concert off 'til la'er." Gabriel leaned in toward Dr. Hartmann and put the back of his hand up to his mouth, whispering the rest of his words in compassionate but hushed voice. "Looks like it migh' be a while before we can see your pooch anyway, with as busy as it is in 'ere. It might be a good way to pass the time."

With this, he turned his attention back to the young boy. "So, Darry was it? M'name's Gabe;" he nodded his head at the boy as he spoke. "So yeh fancy a battle or wha?" Gabriel considered for a moment the merits of a 21-year-old challenging a 10-year-old to a battle, but all things considered he was still a fairly inexperienced trainer himself so this could be a worthwhile match for he and his two Pokémon if the kid wanted to go for it.

[gonna take a stab at this. Hopefully I got the bearing of the story so far…]

“I don’t care what your name is stupid. I’m the great Darry, after this battle you’ll remember that name, when you go to sleep crying tonight!” The little brat said as she cocked his eyebrow up staring at you. Pulling two pokeballs off his belt, caught the attention of some people murming, and what turned eventually to the nurse who looked on in anger. “EXCUSE ME! What in heavens are you doing? Can you NOT read the sign on that wall?!” she screamed at the boy, as she pointed to a metal plaque next to the door that clearly stated “no pokebattles in the center retards ” Obviously any trainer could clearly see that plaque, it was ONLY a 6” big.

“Well…I…umm…am the Great Darry, I don’t follow the rules! he said before yet again getting cut off by the raeging nurse. “What did you say?! I don’t care what your name is, this is MY center and therefore you obey by MY rules!” She said before smacking the kid upside the head, then grabbing what seemed to be his hair, but actually was that little hair in the back of the neck. You know…if you tug on it just the slightest kids lock up in fear. Try it, its fun! Shooing you both back outside, you were now allowed to battle.

Cause apparently battling in front of the Pokémon Center doors and not INSIDE the Pokémon center, made a remote difference but that’s the rules. I’m sure that you didn’t want to question the raging PMS machine that just kicked you two out. Following you with a curious eye was the Doctor Hartmann. Im sure he was curious as much as you were why you suddenly were thrown into a battle, let alone were arguing/difficult questioning a ten year old. “I’m going to check the status of Jeebs, Gabe. Ill come get you in case he is ready to accept visitors.” the doctor said before vanishing inside the Pokémon center. The kid, Danny, Dilly, Darry…whatever his name was, looked back at you with yet another odd set of eyes. You could just tell something intellegant was coming out of his mouth.

“Are you that pathetic you have to travel with your dad?” he said before releasing his two Pokémon, and by releasing I really mean throwing his balls against the ground so hard that they barely released the Pokémon. These creatures must really hate their lives to have a trainer like him.

Maybe you should just murder all of them. I mean steal them. Cause what else could go wrong today?

:exeggcute Level 7 -- & -- :ledyba Level 6

Ya hes such a hardass. This should be quick.

Gabriel's face resembled that of a screech owl as his eyes grew three sizes from the sheer forcfulness of the nurse's rage. Gabe had no intention of starting a battle inside the center, he knew better than that even without the sign bearing down upon him. Admittedly, he wasn't really used to being yelled at like that so he froze, and eventually made his way out after the bumbling kid was escorted by the nape of his neck. Seeing this, he couldn't help but chuckle on the inside, particularly considering the young boy's attitude. What appeared to Gabriel as simple childhood naivitee had become beligerant idiocy over the course of only a few short moments, and thinking back on his initial waverings of battling someone half his age, Gabe had every intention of beating this kid to a pulp to knock his arrogance down a notch or two.

Dr. Hartmann seemed a bit embarassed by the whole ordeal, which Gabe felt terribly about. He should have known better than to pick a fight when they were en route to visit his sick Pokémon, but circumstances couldn't well be changed now. As the older man shuffled back in the doors, Gabriel gave him a somber look, though he couldn't think of appropriate words to apologize with. he instead focused his attention back on his opponent, the self-proclaimed 'great Darry' who seemed little more than a punk kid whose ego was perfectly inversely proportional to his intelligence (a quite unfortunate disposition). Gabriel made no comment one the boy's harsh words; he already realized talking to him was not going to do anything for him, and simply steeled himself for the battle ahead.

As the pair of Pokémon emerged onto the battlefield, the young man couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for them; if this kid's attitude was at all reflected in the way he trained them, they couldn't have had it very easy being bound to him. It seemed quite unfair to them that he'd have to knock them out in order to show this kid what-for, but such was the life of a trainer's Pokémon.

This would be the first two-on-two battle Gabriel had been in, as this is the first battle he'd ever had a second Pokémon to fight with. The prospect intrigued him for the extra level of strategy that would be required to win the battle, or at least be incorporated with two foes an two allies. Gabriel slid his hand down to his belt and in a single, fluid motion released his duo from their balls. Without hesitation, the young man went into battle mode, hoping to rope the advantage by charging into battle first, taking his foe off-guard considering his usually lax demeanor.

"Raj, Meowth, let's go!" he shouted as the creatures oriented themselves after their materialization. This was Meowth's first battle as a companion to Gabriel, and he was excited to see what she could do as his ally, after the damage she did as his opponent. As strategies began forming in the young man's mind, he decided to focus his efforts on one foe at a time and knock them out one after the other so as to take the least amount of damage possible. "Concentrate your efforts on those eggs! Raj, I want you to focus your fire energy into a pair of blasts and shoot them at 'em! Meowth, stay close to Raj and rake those claws of yours against anything that comes near you two! Gabe decided it was best to combine offense and defense at this stage, until he had a better feel for what his opponents were capable of. He also knew that Meowth was quite capable with her claws, making he scratching attacks precise and deadly; she was quite a technician with them in their first battle, so he wanted to use that strength to his advantage. In the back of his mind, Gabriel also hoped that some of the fire his Growlithe had absorbed from earlier still held some risidual energy inside his Pokémon; if there was anything left, it would certainly manifest its power in his attacks, though Gabe didn't dare depend on this boost considering the time that had passed since their foray into the inferno earlier that evening.

Aren't cocky little kids just the worst? But a person could never tell a good trainer from his looks... even if he was just ten years old. And after the rude ejection from the Pokémon Center, the great Darry was in even worse of a mood and determined to win. His Pokémon even looked to be in pretty decent shape. Maybe he wasn't completely making up his being a good trainer. Perhaps not the best ever, but at least capable.

He did at least know his Pokémons' abilities in a fight. Clearly, he had won at least a couple battles, even if he wasn't as great yet as he thought. "Ledyba, Tackle that Growlithe, it's the dangerous one! Flatten it into the ground! Exeggcute, throw up a Reflect, then start an Uproar!" The Ledyba buzzed forward willingly, dodging Raj's first Fire attack, and slamming into Raj. The dodged burst of fire continued sailing on, striking home on the concentrating Exeggcute just before it got the Reflect up and operational.

Of course, being that close to Raj brought the Ledyba well within range of Meowth's claws, and she immediately reacted on your order to Scratch anything near enough. The Ledyba was knocked out of the air, and Raj spat a point-blank blast of fire energy right at it. The double hit made the bug keen in pain, writhing away and barely making it back up into the air. While Raj wasn't boosted anymore, Flash Fire having a habit of fading when no longer being fed, the super-effective fire energy still did respectable damage.

And then, there were EGGS! Eggs bouncing everywhere, making a horrible, keening racket as they bounded around the area, surprisingly bouncy and not breaking to bits as they bounced across the pavement, knocking into Meowth. Nobody else was hit this turn, but with the chaotic movement, nobody could guess whether Meowth or Raj would get pounded by the rabid Exeggcute on the next move.

[Btw, Growlithe's second ability is Intimidate, not Run Away]

Gabriel couldn't help but smirk at the irony of the situation he was in. It just figured that he managed to get into a fight with a loudmouth little boy who actually had some skill, then again beating him would not be nearly as rewarding if there was no challenge to it. Gabe was glad he'd started things off the way he did; if he'd gone for an all-out attack strategy as he was initially considering, his companions would likely be in a lot greater pain than they were after the first round.

At this point, Gabriel swelled with pride for his companions; they had worked together quite well together and he knew that they'd have to continue that trend if they were going to achieve a victory in this battle. Gabe surveyed the battlefield quickly and saw that his two companions were at a bit of a disadvantage, formation-wise with the gaggle of eggs making that horrible sound and bouncing around in all directions with the canine/feline combo caught in the middle. To top it off, that aggravating bug was flying around, though not with nearly the same vigor as it had before; Gabriel took note of this and hoped that this round he could knock out the first combatant of his two opponents.

"Get back-to-back!" Gabriel shouted, his usually calm demeanor fading at the exhilaration of the battle. "Both of you watch each others' backs and stretch yourselves out for attack. Meowth, if either one makes a pass at you I want you to sidestep & dig your claws in deep! See if you can launch the attacker at one of its companions on the rebound." Gabe had an image in his head of one of the little bouncing balls launching itself at his kitten & instead getting flung at one of its fellow eggs with a few new scratches in its shell. He couldn't help but wonder how the mass of eggs was connected, as it was clearly a single Pokémon with many fragmented pieces. He decided that they must have some sort of psychic connection holding them together. Nevertheless, what hurt one appeared to hurt all, so smashing two of them together should inflict twice as much pain, at least by Gabriel's calculations. A switch seemed to flip in the young man's mind as he thought about this and he realized that if that was indeed the case, smashing the eggs together was a good way to bring this spastic, aggravating mess of rosy orbs down quickly.

"Raj, I want you to stay sharp too. If any of those eggs or that ladybug come at you, dodge it and sink your teeth in!" Gabriel knew that his Growlithe's teeth were just as strong of an ally as Meowth's claws so they'd be able to do some serious damage to anything that got close enough to get caught in his jaws. "And once you've got one of 'em make like Meowth and slam whoever it is into your nearest opponent!" Gabe outwardly grinned at the thought of using the little pink spheres as projectile weapons, knowing it ought to be pretty effective as no individual egg could be more than a pound or two, meaning neither of his Pokémon would have any trouble hurling them around. He was a bit concerned about the Ledyba though, as it seemed to have a good deal more heft than the egg Pokémon. No doubt Raj would be able to overpower it since he clearly had enough weight behind him to do the job, but Meowth might have a bit more trouble, considering her much more slender, delicate frame. "And Meowth, if you can't toss what you catch in your claws, just keep raking them and deal out some more hurt!" he added, as an afterthought to his newfound insight.
