"This is your captain speaking. Please remember to wait until the ship has finally stopped, and then you may exit the ship. I hope you all had a wonderful trip, and will have an even better one once you leave. Just please...do not hurt yourself while you are exiting the ship...Can't afford another one of those.. Anyway, welcome to Tohea! Where hopefully some of you dreams may come true!" As the message came to a close, you could see many tourists and trainers making their way to the exit. There were so many of them left and right. It almost seemed like you may not be able to exit the ship safely. These tourists were out for blood, and nothing could stand in their way, besides a random beach, fail-store sale. You had to find a way out without losing an arm, which you eventually did. Lose an arm that is! Okay, maybe you really did not lose an arm, but you almost did! After your made your way into the beautiful city of Ayer, you noticed its distinct features which set it apart from other places like Riverwood and Kadaraa. Within a few minutes of touching land, two little Pokémon ran around you, one chasing the other. One was a small white and blue bird, while the other seemed to look like a normal house cat...but had one random feature normal cats do not have. This animal had a large coin on its forehead. Normal cats did not have those! It was up to you, did you want to watch them chase each other? Or would you rather battle one or maybe even both of them? Or just walk away and just brush off the entire event. It was all in your hands, you control your own destiny... Lvl 4 Lvl 4

Gabriel could hardly believe he had made it this far. The quaint town of Ayer was a wlecoming sight, reminding him somewhat of Olivine and of his home, though both were now a greater distance away from the boy than they'd ever been. As the passengers hurriedly made their way off of the ship, Gabe simply waited patiently for his turn to come, content to sit at the rail and stare out into the ocean. Truth be told, he wasn't entirely sure he was ready for this new step. Doubt about his decision to come here slowly creeped into his mind, but as it did, he could feel a slight tug at his pants. Looking down he saw a reddish orange canine nibbling and nudging affectionately at the boy's leg. "Raj, what would I do without you," he said plainly, a soft look in his eyes. It seemed the doubt that had been growing had suddenly vanished with the encouragement of his closest companion. "Well, I suppose we ought to get going. If we stay here much longer the ship may leave with us still on it," the boy had a sarcastic tone, one that could often be heard in his voice and something Raj had come to appreciate about his trainer. The two made their way steadily down the ramp and at last onto solid ground, though after their long vogage at sea, the island appeard to be rocking slightly. Gabriel always enjoyed that sensation, of his body still swaying with the waves even though the ground itself was stationary. It brought a coy smile to the boy's face as he tread on, noticing some of the other passengers tottering a bit from presumably the same sensation. Although Gabriel was usually one to walk with his eyes at his own feet, this new place warrented some exploration and as such he strode on eyes forward, taking in the many sights to be seen there. It was not long, however, before his rambling was interrupted by a peculiar pair of Pokémon apparently chasing one another in circles. Gabriel smiled awkwardly at the two of them, being caught slightly off-guard at their sudden appearance, and was quite content to allow them to continue their chase unhindered. Raj, however, had other plans. Before Gabe knew what was happening, the small canine was darting after the pair of them... clearly focused more on the feline creature than the bird. Gabiel opened his mouth to call his Pokémon back to him, but his words fizzled out before the sound ever reached his lips. The boy reconsidered the situation, seeing that he had encountered his first two wild Pokémon and one (or both) could potentially be defeated or perhaps even caught. It was an odd thought, shifting his mode of thinking from that of a musician to that of a trainer, but all things considered, this was a good opportunity for him. "Raj, get em'!" Morgan called after the Growlithe, content to let his Pokémon decide just what was implied in that statement. If he simply wanted to play, then perhaps he'd make a new friend without any violence. If he wanted to battle, on the other hand... this would be an exciting first step on Gabriel's journey. Edited by kilted_katana, Sep 15 2010, 04:47 AM.

Raj paused for a moment, skidding to a a halt at your words. Tiny little black studs gripped the sidewalk beneath his feet as he registered your command. The canine's jowls turned up in the most teasing semblance of a smile, his tongue lopping out of his mouth as his expression changed to one of pleased surprise. Raj honestly expected some kind of reprimand, but now that you were actually encouraging it to pursue the Wingull, well... During this small pause, the Meowth neatly kicked off the ground, jumping clear over Raj's head. She didn't seem to give Raj much attention, interestingly enough, somersaulting with a snap over the Growlithe's head. Her prey seemed to be the only focus of her attention, and she used the momentum from her jump to attack the Wingull. In one swift motion, her paw stretched out, swiping at the Wingull's back with claws extended. Wingull tilted to the left, landing on the sidewalk badly, but evading the scratch attack. Kicking off frantically with its wings, it flapped and hopped against the ground, hoping to regain flight in order to escape his pursuer. Raj barked loudly, startling the Meowth. She turned with an angry look as your Pokémon ran over to participate in the scuffle. For a fraction of a second the two's eyes met, and a silent challenge issued. Raj pushed off the ground towards Wingull, and Meowth did the same, both aiming for the bird, target and pride at stake. Meowth had the advantage in speed, but what Raj lacked in agility he made up for in enthusiasm. Wingull was caught unawares, unable to get a good uplift in the still air. Meowth pounced, and he rolled out of the way, dashing forward just as Raj made his assault, planting his paws hard against sidewalk where he had hoped to clutch feathers. He bit forward instinctively, but missed as Wingull was already dashing ahead. the Meowth jumped onto Raj's head, slamming his head into the pavement, and using the push to launch herself after the seagull. Raj snarled, enraged, and gave chase after the duo. Wingull finally caught a head wind and took flight, but Meowth jabbed at his back, forcing him to somersault into the air. Raj jumped, but Meowth was faster, and she once more used him to give her the advantage. As her back legs kicked off his head, Raj fell to the ground. Meowth missed the Wingull, who dipped upwards and took off into the sky. She growled, disappointed in herself. Turning, she launched a angry meow at Raj, clearly blaming her loss on his interruption. Raj was dragging himself to his feet, embarrassed. Without any guidance, he was making a fool out of himself. Meowth, on all fours, raised her nose up in a taunt. Raj barked at her, infuriated, backing into a pouncing stance, tail in the air. Wingull was gone, but perhaps this Meowth wanted to be his next target. On her account, the Meowth made no indication that she was going to back down, staring pompously down at your Growlithe. Lv4

So much for making a friend, Gabriel thought to himself, feeling the obvious tension between his companion and the clearly annoyed kitten staring him down. In the back of his mind, he'd hope to see a bit more of the island, or at least a bit more of the city before getting into a fight. Looks like there's no way around this one, he thought, rolling his eyes and smiling wryly. He knew Raj was not going to back down and Gabe was certainly going to support his companion through this trial. It was not long before his thinking changed, seeing this not as an inconvenience or a burden, but as an opportunity. He had only been on Tohea for mere moments and he had already encountered a Pokémon with potential to be caught (a Meowth at that, which brought up warm feelings and memories of home and the family of Persians and Meowths that lived with them on their little island). This gave Gabe an optomistic outlook on his future on Tohea and reinforced in his mind that his decision to come here was the right one. "I've got your back, buddy," Gabriel called out as he psyched himself up for the first battle they'd been in for quite some time, trying to get his partner in the right mindset to begin the tussle that was about to ensue. "We've got nothing to worry about, you can take her easy," Morgan said with confidence, cringing a bit at his own grammatical massacre, but expressing the sentiment with sincerity; Raj had never let him down before, and he knew that this time would be no different. His mind slowly shifted into battle mode as he carefully began to scrutinize the battlefield for any advantage he might be able to garner. From what he could see, the sidewalk they were standing on was going to be the element he needed to consider most carefully in this battle. The surface was dense and rough, and falling against it would be painful, to say the least. Taking this into consideration, Gabe tried to come at this problem from the best angle he could. Meowth's clearly superior agility was going to make things difficult for Raj, but his energetic pup was by no means outmatched. It was obvious that chasing after the feline for a straightforward attack was not going to be an effective battle strategy fot this fight. "Raj, watch her carefully but don't make a move until Meowth closes in for an attack. Try to dodge it and sink your teeth into whatever extemity lands closest to you! Whatever you catch, yank it as hard as you can to throw 'er off balance and bost the damage!" If Gabriel remembered correctly, Meowth was limited to close-combat attacks, meaning that if she wanted to do any damabe she'd have to close in on the Growlithe eventually. Unfortunately, Raj was still too young to know any moves that could be used from afar either, meaning this battle was likely going to take place in close quarters. |

The Meowth was furious. Here she was, minding her own business while trying to catch dinner, and BAM! Out of nowhere comes some bratty human and his Growlithe. And the nerve of him! Trying to steal HER Wingull and getting in the way of her hunt. Well, now he was going to pay for chasing off her meal. Luckily for you, this meant that she was absolutely furious, and not paying a ton of attention to strategy. Of course... it also meant that she was willing to do whatever was necessary to hurt poor Raj! Since he'd been ordered to stay back and attack defensively, the Meowth had the first move, and she flew right into battle, claws unsheathing menacingly. Raj, already full of the Growlithe version of adrenaline, was quick and light on his feet, able to dodge the first Scratch. He reacted fast enough to whip around and Bite down on the Meowth, catching her in the leg. The only problem with using an attack that required your head be right attached to your opponent meant that your head was right within attacking range. Yowling with pain and rage, the Meowth attacked furiously, her claws raking deep across Raj's head and back. He yelped, and shook his head violently from side to side, eventually managing to shake her loose. She landed on her feet, favoring her bitten leg, hissing and spitting. It was probably a good thing that you didn't really know what she was saying, because it sounded pretty rude. ![]() (Raj) Lvl 5 ![]() 10/20 93/100Status: - Supplementary: None Primary: Bite (14 damage) Versus ![]() (meowth) Lvl 4 ![]() 4/18 90/100Status: - Supplementary: None Primary: Scratch (Miss) Primary: Scratch (10 damage) Edited by Ryua, Sep 16 2010, 02:18 PM.

Gabriel took notice of how peeved... or more accurately how pissed off, this Meowth was getting at Raj; he suspected that her feelings were similar for him too, as he was the one directing and egging on her assailant. A twinge of guilt shot through him at the thought, when he cinsidered the moral of using his own Pokémon to hurt another living creature. This was his first true experience battling a wild Pokémon full-force as he was used to training and pulling his punches against his practice targets. Gabriel felt unsure about his decision for a moment, but he knew in his mind that this is what the life of a trainer was: battling, capturing, conquering the opponent; wash, rinse, repeat. Although the philisophical myriad of questions were swimming in his head, Gabe cut through the fog on his mind and focused on the battle, I'll have to think about all of these moalistic implications later, I have to keep my mind on what I'm doing now. Gabriel solidified his concentration and quieted the clamor of his consciousness. Gabriel once again suryeyed the playing field in an instant, trying to garner all of the information he could, but his attention all fell on his opponent. The Meowth's injured leg was visibly painful, and although she seemed to remain quite ready and able to continue on, Gabe suspected that the fight she was showing was pure anger and frustration with all that was happening. The boy was still sympathetic for the creature and decided that the best thing to do now was end the battle as quickly as he could. From a small pouch at his side, Gabriel reached in and drew a small red and white ball from it. "Raj, hold tight. I'm gonna try to catch her," he said in a low, calm voice. I want you to crouch and wait. If I can't catch her, you'll have to be ready. If she breaks free of the ball, I want you to leap and tackle her into submission as soon as she materializes." Gabriel wanted to make sure that he wasn't doing any more harm to his opponent than necessary, but just as important to him was keeping Raj from taking any more damage than he already had. He shut his eyes for a mere moment, pulling the ball to his face and with a heavy sigh he whippped his arm around, loosing the small orb from his finger tips. It had all come down to this... |

It was ironic, actually, after all that defiance. The Meowth saw the Pokeball coming - you could see it in her eyes as she visibly deflated, some of the fire and brimstone evaporating in return for a moment of sadness and regret before the reddish glow dematerialized the injured foe. Infuriated as it might have been, it knew as well as any other urban Pokémon what that meant, the combination of slavery and safety that was at once both tempting and abhorrent to any street Pokémon. Tempting, because after months or years of barely "living" in the shadow and excess of humanity, the idea of having companonship, safety from the ravenous carnivores that stalked the alleyways, and consistent food was hard to resit. Anything that had nigh-on starved to death knew the allure of free and reliable food, and the benefits of safety. But becoming a trainer's Pokémon was abhorrent, too. To do so was to completely give up all freedom, to be reduced - at least in the eyes of many urbanites - to a gladiator, a depraved monster that fought for its owner's pleasure, as well as its own, not merely to survive. To the often fiercely individualistic Pokémon of the city, that was tantamount to suicide. Very few would simply leap at the chance to be captured, assuming they had not already regressed to a more bestial state from the constant stress and danger. To come to face with that stark reality, the gravity of that choice, forced a degree of staid contemplation that precluded the mindless rage that had but a moment ago filled her mind. To the outside world, the Pokeball only gently shook thrice before stopping - within her mind, it was an eternity of frenzied thought, of anger fighting cold reason and pride facing pragmatism. Reality versus optimism. It considered each course of action, and by the time the Pokeball finally latched shut, it was... cognizant of its fate, if not optimistic about it. Thus, the Meowth emerged from the Pokeball a few moments later, after the imprinting had already occurred and it had obviously been caught. Pride denied it the option of simply riding in the Pokeball of its own free will on the trip to the Pokécenter - it would retain some degree of what it once was, and follow you, but its decision. While it was likely to harbor a minor grudge against you for some time, your new Meowth had far too little energy to act on it, and would likely grow used to it in time. lvl4 captured and added to profile. Congratulations! It also gains 25XP for damage done to your Pokémon before being captured, bring it to 25/40XP to lvl5. gains 31XP for taking ~77% of the Meowth's HP away. 31/50xp to lvl6.All changes have been edited into profile. Gabriel's muscles tensed as he watched the ball fly forward, spinning so furiously that the white and red halves of the sphere seemed to blend together in a rosy shade of pink. He watched closely and time seemed to slow to a Slugma's pace as the pokeball soared ever further from him and closer to its target. It seemed that in the instant before the suspended object connected that Gabriel could see the small cat shift. Her expression seemed to slide from the raging anger that Raj had felt the sting of, to something altogether different. The young man couldn't quite place the emotion he saw on the creature's face; was it sorrow... pain... shame? Before he had time to decide a flash of red light enveloped the feline. Gabriel's stomach dropped as the ball rocked back and forth, guilt and apprehension filling his mind. Is this truly the right thing to do? Now that the immediate danger to his own companion was temporarily, his mind once again filled with doubt. Is this all there is to Pokémon training? How can I continue on when my whole mission seems bent on hurting innocent creatures? How did my sister do this. She never struggled and yet she had such wonderful stories; she had wonderful adventures with her Pokémon and built such strong bonds... His brain ached with the swirl of the thousand thoughts that raced through it, but before he could resolve the compelling issue, a small tone sounded from somewhere in the physical world; Gabriel's consciousness immediately returned to the matter at hand and as he gazed forward, the ball that had only moments ago left his grip was sitting plainly on the sidewalk, still as a pond hardened by winter's chill. Realization came slowly as to what had just happened, but only a few moments later did the feline form of Meowth once again materialize before him. As he and Raj stared at the creature, they saw something much different than he had before. The insatiable wrath which had reflected in her expressive eyes was gone, and the emotion that Gabe had witnessed for only a fraction of a second seemed to have subsided as well. The expression that remained was something out of his grasp, for it simply had a calmness to it that masked any other emotions hidden beneath the exterior. One thing was for certain, the ball had served its intended purpose; Meowth now belonged to Gabriel. At this realization, both trainer and Pokémon breathed a heavy sigh of relief, Raj stretching out his limbs before sitting on his hind haunches. Willful as he may have been, the young growlithe was quite loyal to Gabriel and showed the same respect to their new companion. As the outcome of the match slowly sunk into the pup's brain, his tongue drooped from his mouth and his tail began to wag happily; he was obviously proud of himself for his first real accomplishment on their new journey. Gabriel, realizing Raj's satisfaction, knelt down and scratched behind the canine's ears. "You did splendidly, my boy," he said, reinforcing his contentment. At that, he turned his attention back to the Meowth who simply sat and stared at the two of them. "So it seems you'll be joining us, then;" his words held a certain awkwardness to them, as he was unsure of what would be appropriate to say to a recently captured Pokémon. "You're a most welcome member of the team," he said in a soft, warm tone and extended his hand forward, as though offering the Meowth a handshake. It took a moment for her to realize what he was exactly he was doing, but ultimately Meowth understood that he was beckoning her closer to him, and likely offering to pet her. It was still too early to forget the circumstances of their meeting, but her resentment had faded from its original intensity and she saw fit to show her new master some sign of affability. She approached gracefully and licked his hand with her sandpaper tongue before nibbling gently at his fingertips. Although her canines were quite sharp, her bite was soft, almost playful. Gabriel took this as a sign of acceptance and ran his hand gently across her head and down her slim back. It came in a flash to the boy, as a tsunami of thought rushed once again into his consciousness. This is it... this is what training is all about, this is what battling is all about. It's not simply damaging and conquering the opponent, it's about fostering friendship with your companions. Battling alongside your partners strengthens that bond and allows it to blossom into the wonderful relationship that all trainers strive for. That's what made Angie's journey so special, so meaningful... Gabriel straightened his posture, standing up between his two companions and turning his face toward the sea, looming just before them. This epiphany of sorts put a smile on the boy's face as he seemed to stare off into the horizon. New adventures awaited them, as well as new companions and challenges that they would face here on Tohea. "Come on, lads," he said, with a new confidence in his voice, "let's go see what else the day has in store for us." Gabe turned to face his companions once again, smiling brightly down on them, and beckoned them onward into the city. Their most immediate adventure would have be finding the city's Pokémon center so that his companions could rest and recover from their painful tussle. |

What a nice day in Ayer, huh? The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, people who walked by waved casually or did that head-nod thing if their hands were full, everything seemed to be in complete balance and harmony. It was the kind of day that made a Trainer want to relax with some Pokémon by a pool. Summer was winding down and the temperature was mildly hot, not so that you were sweating, but enough so that your skin was warm to the touch. You'd added a new member to your team, so things seemed to be going pretty well. Had you lost the battle, your first on this new island, maybe everything wouldn't be feeling quite as optimistic. But you hadn't, so therefor they were! You were certainly living on the bright side for the moment. Something did catch your eye that wasn't quite so nice, however. "4 Killed in Oasis Robbery, Government Searching For Black Rose?" .... Well that was weird! Anyway, you trekked down into the heart of Ayer, which is never really too far from any other point in Ayer in general! The town was rather small, and as a result, all of the important areas seemed to bunch up a bit. You saw the building up ahead, and two sliding doors ushered you in to a well lit room. A Nurse took your Pokémon from you for a little while, bringing them back to full health. As you sat in the waiting room, a man spoke to a young lady a few seats down. "Did you hear about that lady whose house got broken into on Cobalt Avenue? The police think it's Pokémon, and they're looking for people to flush them out? I don't even know why I'm telling you this. I just like giving people leads, I guess. Sorry." That could prove interesting. The man returned to reading a magazine. The Nurse returned two Pokeballs to you, and you were all set to go do whatever you felt like! |

Gabriel gladly accepted the two pokeballs and before going anywhere, he released the pair of creatures that were contained within them. The two companions seemed a bit at odds with one another, Meowth seeing fit to simply ignore the energetic Growlithe; it seemed she hadn't completely forgiven him for the mishap of the day. Nonetheless, the two awaited some sign from Gabriel as to what would be happening next. The young man crouched to the ground, bringing his face down closer to their level, and affectionately caressed each creature. "It seems we may be in for another adventure today," he said plainly, the slightest hint of excitement in his voice. Gabriel had come to realize the importance of building bonds with his companions, as well as the importance of of building new friendships and expanding his team of partners. With this newfound purpose, Gabe was quite optimistic about the news he had just overheard from the gentleman not far from him. Perhaps serendipity had struck and they were given a hint as to where they ought to go or perchance 'the powers that be' were nudging them in the proper direction. Either way, this little tidbit of information piqued Gabriel's interest enough to at least go investigate things and see what was behind this peculiar event. "Let's get going," he said with an air of enthusiasm. He stood quickly and made his way toward the sliding doors. On his initial trip to the center, he had realized that Ayer was not the sprawling, endless metropolis that was suggested from its facade as he saw it from the ferry. Though it appeared there was a great volume of visitors and passers-by wandering the city, each with their own agenda and 'to-do' list, the city itself appeared rather compact, and should make it fairly simple to find 'Cobalt Avenue,' as the man had mentioned. Gabriel strode onward, observing all he could in his search, and considered in his mind that asking for directions would not be a terrible decision if their initial foray was unsuccessful. |

It wouldn't take long for you to find your way to Cobalt Avenue. You asked around a fair bit, people giving you directions along the way. After just a minute or two, you had a general idea of where to walk to and in what direction. You could hear the low whispers of civilians and it seemed as if the break-in was quite a hot topic. The word spread around town as quickly as possible and, before too long, everybody was talking about it in some way, shape, or form. Yet, you continued walking towards Cobalt Avenue. It didn't much occur to you that you were walking against traffic, as a wave of people were headed the opposite direction. Some looked at you, others stared in disappointment. You didn't really know what was going on. However, once you saw the commotion up the street - fittingly named "Cobalt" - you knew that you had finally arrived. "Hey, someone get me a nurse now!" "What do you mean communication's lost?" "God damn it, if I have to tell you once more to put a recon unit on this case as soon as possible, I'll have this phone so far up your ass that you'll be FORCED to retire your rookie year!" Those were just some of the conversations you overheard by the security, emergency and law enforcement personnel that were on the other side of the chaos. You, along with every other passerby, were sealed off from the scene of the crime by a cautionary tape that was guarded by three very large, very intimidating men. As if that weren't enough to keep away intruders, each officer was armed with their very own Arcanine. The majestic dogs stood tall - gracefully striking a contradicting sense of fear and protection into every person that made eye contact. One of them even looked your way, its dominating stare almost forcing you to look away. So, any ideas of getting any closer to the house were immediately shot down. Oh, and the house was on fire. Yeah, I forgot to mention that one minor detail. The house was set ablaze by God knows what, and the flames were quickly eating away at the building's very foundation. It was impossible to believe that the fire was alive for so long; that it was allowed to escalate to such a degree of intensity. However, the longer you stayed put, the more everything seemed to make sense. You were able to piece and put two and two together from the bits of dialogue you picked up. It seemed as if the fire department couldn't be reached due to some form of miscommunication. The city's emergency response program wasn't the best, and it really showed during...well, emergencies. That's when one of the officer's approached the crowd that formed behind the caution tape and around you. "Everybody, please back away from the line." She motioned with her hands, pushing the air in front of her in a demonstration of what she wanted the mass of people to do. "We're having trouble getting in touch with the Fire Department - it seems as if Ayer's entire communication system has been severed for one reason or another. Phone lines, internet; satellite. Everything. Everything is down." She took a quick second to catch her breath. "Is anyone here a trainer and willing to assist? I'll brief you guys in a second - it wont be too difficult a task, trust me." |

Gabriel knew that he was headed in the right direction as the crowd intensified with each passing step. It didn't seem to phase him or his pair of companions that they were swimming upstream through this river of humanity, as curiosity and the prospect of some exciting happenings drove them onward. When they finally reached the scene, things were a mess. Fires flared as well as tempers from behind a well-guarded police line and Gabe found himself in awe of the sights before him. First was the blaze that billowed brightly and seemed to belch an endless trail of smoke into the sky. It seemed odd, in retrospect that he had not noticed the ever-growing plume in the first place but it was not an important enough fact to hold Gabe's attention for long as he noticed the impressive Pokémon that were perched menacingly behind the bright caution tape that preserved the scene. Raj seemed starstruck as well, gazing up at his towering kin and daydreaming about the power they held within them; the young pup was aglow at the thought of one day evolving into one of the towering canines. Gabriel considered for a moment trying to sneak closer to the towering inferno, drawn be a force he could not explain. Something about the building, or perhaps simply the fire, niticed him and beckoned him closer. the problem was that he was quite paralyzed by the strict demeanor of those who stood guarding the line. He could tell that they were a no-nonsense bunch and would not hesitate to drop-kick his behind all the way back to Olivine if he did anything stupid, and so his urge to break the rules was quickly squelched. It didn't stop his staring, though, and he simply stood looking up at the blaze and losing himself in thought (or perhaps an emptiness of thought). It was only a few moments later that Gabe jolted back to consciousness as a policewoman approached him and yelled for the crowd to "back the eff up," though phrasing it much more eloquently than that. She seemed to be quite irked but managed to keep her cool well enough to hide it from anyone who was not standing right in front of her. This caught Gabriel's attention more than anything else and facilitated his attention to further hear her request for help. It's too bad I don't have a water-type, then I could actually help fight the fire. I suppose I ought to help however I can though, he considered, hoping that whatever task she had for him was not beyond his capabilities. "I can help," he said in a bold voice and raising his hand tentatively. "I'm a trainer and I'd be happy to do what I can for you." His face showed a great deal of determination and in his mind he was simultaneously excited and rather anxious at his opportunity to do something for the poplice. |

"You really think you can help? I mean-" "Let the damn kid help. Uri!" One of the workers who'd been closest to you when you called out looked you up and down. He turned a quick glance toward the fire, and then back to his companion. "Man, we don't have time for this! This place is coming down! As he spoke, there was a large crash as a large piece of the roof caved in on itself, throwing sparks violently into the sky. The crowd made assorted surprised noises as crowds often do. From the left of the house you heard a bizarre sound. It was a high pitched yelp, followed only slightly by the sound of breaking glass. Things were getting hectic here! "Miles, you and the kid here go check that out." A worker, young and bearded, led you swiftly to where the noise had come from. It was the side of the house, and flames licked at the broken window as you passed. You could make out a small shape on the ground, rising and falling slowly. It was dark, it was furry, and it was a Pokémon! Miles cocked his head to the side in confusion. "How in the world...." At that same moment, another call rose out above the din. A man's voice, frantic and haggard split the ears of everyone in the immediate area. "She's crumbling, get out of the way!" Miles ran back to help his superiors, leaving you with the small creature. It was a Poochyena, battered and bruised. It's breath was slow and tired and it's paws were cut up pretty badly. Fire had singed it's dark fur. It stared at you with such intensity, the fire that had hurt it so badly seemed to rest in it's eyes. A cracking sound let you know that the building was going to collapse any second, but what was this Pokémon doing here? As it was, it would be crushed if the building fell, as it lay just outside of the window! ----- Level 6

In the chaos that was taking place all around him, Gabriel could scarcely concentrate on the task he was given... and in all honesty he was still unsure of what the officers wanted him to help with. The young man simply strode forward as he was beckoned by those seemingly in charge of the operation, not that there was any semblance of control here, with the building collapsing on itself and fiery debris spewing every which way. Needless to say, this is not what Gabe was expecting when he followed the man's lead to this place. How do I get myself into these situations? he wondered as memories of raging waves and gut-wrenching claps of thunder rang through his memory. Somehow these disasters seemed to find him and he wondered what crazy things might befall him in his future. But this was of little importance with the severity of the situation at hand, he'd have to make it through this calamity before he'd be able to face the next one. A man, apparently called Miles, led Gabe and his two small companions around the building, surveying high and low for what could have made the the horrible yelp that hey had heard only a few moments before. As the two of them passed a shattered window and the two of them immediately took notice of a small, dark form inside the building. Before either could do anything, a shrill call was heard and Miles sped off to do what he could for his fellow officers. Gabriel was left all alone to deal with the issue at hand... though he was not so alone as he seemed, for his old friend Raj was by his side, along with his newest companion, Meowth. He knew that something had to be done, as his heart ached at the sight of the poor, battered creature heaving heavily from within the building. Usually Gabriel took his time considering all of the elements around him to come up with some sort of scheme to get whatever he needed accomplished, but it was clear that he would have little time to do any planning. "Meowth, stay right here! I don't want you in there where you could get hurt. Keep a lookout for me and give a holler if it looks like this sucker's gonna come down! Raj I want you to follow me and clear a path while I grab the Pokémon that's hurt in there!" He knew that he'd need some help once he got inside the building, and his fire-aligned Growlithe would be able to stand up to the heat of the flames much better than Meowth. Without even waiting for his companions to respond, Gabriel leapt headlong through the broken shards of window, hellbent on doing all he could to save the damaged canine. The boy's heart raced as he faced the flames that were consuming the structure of the building from the inside out, and yet for all of the adrenaline that was assuredly pulsing through his veins, he felt very little fear. Perhaps it was because of his focus on his task, perhaps because of his empathy for the hurt creature he was trying to save, or perhaps because it was water that had hurt him so badly so he had developed an affinity for the opposing element. One thing was for sure, there was no turning back now, he would just have to grab the pooch and get out fast enough to beat the inferno. |

The holocaust of flame consumed wood, steel, and air in a mighty conflagration that threatened to consume all in its path. A raging inferno against which there was no defense, no counter; short of a truly torrential downpour, the fire would rage unchecked until abated, and nothing within it would survive the purifying flame. Massive mansions fell as easily as hovels, rich and poor alike humbled and humiliated by the awesome and terrible power of hat and light. You would simply be one more in a very long line of victims, spanning countless millennia and spread across the planet, forest fires and electrical fires and chemical fires and every other kind of fire joined in grim lethality. For all the "taming" of fire that we've done, we too burn in its terrible radiance as easily as the wood and paper it so easily consumes. All that psychobabble was likely far from your or your Growlithe's respective minds as you jumped headfirst into a freaking on-fire building, gleefully dropkicking common sense in the balls and dropkicking Lady Luck, daring her to so much as let one of the flaming, rapidly-weakening rafters above your heads twitch. Growlithe kept close to the nearest flames, allowing his ability to soak up the flame before it reached you as you pried the Poochyena from beneath the bookcase that had fallen on it, crushing ribs and inflicting terrible internal damage, though the exact extent was hard to ascertain... or why the hell a wild(?) Pokémon had been wandering around in the middle of a fire was an equally good question, a very good question indeed. But the ceiling still burned, and rather than ponder the meaning of life, the universe, and everything, you and your loyal puppy expeditiously exited the building (read: jumped out of a broken window regardless of consequences), accompanied by Meowth's panicked yeowls - though to his credit, he hadn't taken the opportunity to make a run for his freedom - and the vicious cacophony of sound and light as the room you had so recently been in went down in flames. Literally. As the fire burned ever brighter, as "hell on earth" become ever more accurate a descriptor, you could barely hear a feeble, horrible squeal as something else died, a Pokémon or animal - ...hopefully not a human - that you had not been able to rescue. Oh, yes. We've just tamed the hell out of fire. Standing aside your puppy - who was now burning like a bonfire, having absorbed so much fire that he was decidedly uncomfortable, though not in pain - and a cat that was only barely able to steel itself from running away, with the sound of sirens in the distance and frantic rescue workers talking over intercoms and cell phones - the cellular network had never gone down, after all, even if land lines had - you were given the chance to ponder that sad truth. Or just report back to the rescue workers to see if there was anything else that could be done. It seemed that communications had been restored, though, so your primary job was now obsolete. Not that that was a bad thing, now... |
