The crisp smell of summer air mixes with the wonderfully refreshing scent of salient-rich ocean breeze. Around the bay waves quietly pushed their way on shore, slowly overtaking the area of the rocks. Crab-like Pokemon quickly run into the waves, snatching smaller beings washed ashore by the moon's pull. Bird-Pokemon occasionally swoop in to take a peck at the birds, never really making contact before the crab snapped at it with large pinchers before retreating to holes in the shore. Along with the aquatic life located on the shore line two urban-looking cat Pokemon poked at a ship's unloading dock filled with delicious fish.

A man from the ship shouted at the Pokemon, neither of them acknowledging his commands. "Oy, scram you Meowth that's my fish!" The man's speech was very accented, the last three words he spoke accented in a way that made the s in that's have an a attached to the end of it. He flailed his arms in the air, shouting towards the cats in some other language. His eyes picked up from the cats and scanned over the dock area where he locked eyes with Niochli. "Heya, you! comaover here-a and take-a outta these a Pokegmon!" What a strange accent he was presenting!

If Niochli's interest isn't to stay around this sea-side bay of course he could make his way into the beautiful bay town of Ayer. No matter the time of day or year the sun always seems to be smiling warmly down on the suburban-like landscape. Around the area of the town is a mess of features much different from isolation from most civilization living with a stricter tribe-oriented family.

Niochli looked around, his mouth hanging open slightly. The ocean voyage to get here had been new and unnerving enough, but now that he was finally here... he couldn't believe how different everything was. Although it was as warm as his jungle home, the beach was so... open. And the sand... there was so much of it.

Xochipalli certainly seemed to be enjoying herself. Yapping happily, thrilled to be finally off the boat, the little Growlithe took off down the pier, prancing like a newborn puppy again. Niochli watched her play, smiling slightly. He was so glad that he had his closest friend with him on this journey so far from home. It had seemed like a good idea at the time...

Their village was beautiful and close-knit, but poor. Their culture might have been gold-rich in ancient history, but in modern days, it was a tiny, backwards farming community, and chillies and cacao beans could only bring in so much. Niochli was the oldest in his family, and when his sisters grew up, he wanted them to have the money to be well-off. Money could be used for a dowry, or to start their own business or buy a home, whichever made them happy. But to do that, they needed money. And to get money, someone had to leave the town and do something to earn it. So, being the dutiful older brother, his mind full of stories of skillful warriors earnin their way in the world, Niochli had spent most of his saved money on a ticket to Tohea...

He had no idea what he was getting into. The port had been busy, but at least familiar. He was honestly scared by the vast amounts of water they'd had to cross. Xochipalli was just as unhappy of course, not exactly being the kind of Pokémon who liked water. Still, they'd supported each other, and made it across without any major nervous breakdowns. But this... Niochli had never seen a city like this. It was huge. Massive. Everyone he saw had small computers, technology of some sort with them. The buildings were unlike anything he'd seen. They had glass in their windows, but nothing like these skyscrapers seemingly completely made of nothing but glass. The sheer scale alone was mindboggling.

It was with considerable relief that Niochli heard the old seadog shouting at Pokémon. That was a familiar scene everywhere, merchants chasing wild Pokémon away from their food. He had a hard time with the accent at first, but eventually got the gist of what the man wanted. He whistled a sharp trill, and Xochipalli ran immediately to his side. "Let's help the grandfather, Xochipalli. Please give yourself a good stretch, and then go ahead and use Bite on the Meowth. We want to scare the Pokémon away, but I think it would be nice to add one or two to our team, yes? If you get an opportunity, Bite again, but be careful to watch out for attacks.

Who said common decency was dead? Even in this modern age of impersonal network communication, txting, and tiny cubicles, there was something to be said for the bond that humans feel with their fellows, and for some, many other living things. Interesting that trainers should be one of the foremost representatives of that mindset, adventuring for no more reward than the thrill of the journey and what they can find or accomplish along the way, the Pokémon to catch, sights to see, friends to make. Perhaps they really were relics of a dying mindset, more concerned with actually living life than making a paycheck - or the future of humanity, a sign of things to come or a more evolved Homo Sapiens Sapiens.

Or perhaps you just wanted to beat the crap out of some adorable furry and/or feathery animals. Who are the rest of us to judge? Not that Wingull, for su-oh, wait, nevermind, he was judging you all kinds of hard, squawking like an air raid siren as he took wing to get the crap out of Dodge. Granted, he didn't so much "leave" as "hover well out of range, loudly proclaiming his intense displeasure with this turn of events," but the difference was subtle at best, given how noisy Wingull were in general. The Krabby, for his part, burbled once before flopping sideways off the pier with a suspiciously satisfied look, sinking below the waves like a stone. As good an exit as any - they could walk on the seafloor just fine, much better than squishy humans for sure, and a quick, quiet exit was less likely to grab attention than Wingull's - you could see a trainer with a Pidgey already attacking the Wingull while yelling obscenities, obscenities that you were pretty sure the Wingull was returning in its own torrent of profanity. A match made in heaven!

Down on the earth rather than the heavens, an exchange of roughly similar friendliness was occurring, the Meowth Growling loudly as Xochipalli approached with all the grace and subtlety of a beached manatee. Perhaps not the most adorable exchange of all time, but its readiness and ability to fight, along with sharp claws spread wide, slightly diminished the charging Growlithe's appetite for battle... though, needless to say, not enough to quell the ancient cats versus dogs rivalry. She dutifully charged in, clamping down on and shaking the Meowth's body viciously before being dislodged via an especially vicious Scratch. Meowth, incensed beyond self-preservation, followed up with another Scratch that Xochipalli was hard-pressed to dodge, the Growlithe forced to abort his own follow-up attack in face of the the ferocity of the Meowth's offensive in order to safely escape.

Well... Xochipalli wasn't going to win any awards for style this time around, Niochli thought to himself. But she was certainly full of enthusiasm at least, and he was proud of her fearlessness. Especially in the face of that first Scratch attack! It hit far harder than he would have expected, that Meowth must have practiced a lot with that move.

Still, Xochipalli gave the little cat some troubles of her own to worry about. As they finally broke apart, Niochli got a chance to see what the furious close-in combat had wrought. Poor Xochipalli was drooping, deep furrows across her muzzle and side from the Meowth, and panting hard. While the little puppy Pokémon would likely never acknowledge that she wasn't doing so well, Niochli could see she'd taken quite a beating. At least she was still willing to fight, though.

He was definately not pleased to see the Meowth still had plenty of fight left in her. He'd been hoping that Xochipalli would be able to get ahead in the fight early, but somehow the little cat had dished out more damage than she'd taken. Niochli decided not to waste a Pokeball trying to catch her just yet, he doubted it would work effectively given how feisty she still looked. Well... he didn't want to give up just yet, and he had faith in his little Growlithe's ability to pull off another attack. "Xochipalli, I need you to get in there once more and use Bite. Please take your time, and chose your moment carefully, we need to take that Meowth out before she injures you." He rummaged in his bag for a Pokeball, so that when Xochipalli was able to land a hit, he'd be able to catch the Meowth. He would be honored to add such a valiant fighter to his team.

Ah, cautious strategy. Tactics, rather. The essence of defensive tactics was the tradeoff between dealing and taking damage - minimizing the damage one takes, whether through subterfuge or rock-hard defenses, in return for sacrificing a portion of one's own damage output. Not an exceptionally popular strategy amongst most trainers, who were perfectly willing to go with a "Tackle->Tackle" strategy, if it could be called that, but a telling approach on the part of the trainer, suggesting some degree of empathic link with their Pokémon, a desire to keep their partner from harm. Odd, perhaps - many trainers would simply see it as a waste of time since their Pokémon could be "resurrected" at a Pokémon center with little effort - but far from "wrong," so much as such an incredibly subjective term can be defined.

Xochipalli certainly shared that sentiment, perking up slightly at your words and looking at you as reasuringly as she could manage, despite the deep, bloody gashes on her side. It was amazing what a few well-chosen words could do for morale, moreso when they were meant so genuinely and kindly. That was definitely the route to building Xochipalli's trust in you to the nigh-mythical level that truly elite trainers only rarely managed, the absolute empathic bond that let trainer and Pokémon act on the same wavelength.

The Growlithe wasn't particularly worried about highfallutin' concepts like that right now, though - she was focusing on finishing the battle in one accurate blow, prioritizing her own survival over immediate damage output, and thus crouching while approaching carefully rather than simply leaping headfirst into battle. Her care was rewarded when the Meowth lanced out with another vicious Scratch, tearing chunks and splinters out of the wooden dock in a surprisingly vicious display before leaping once more at Xochipalli, Growling again as it hurtled towards a game-ending Scratch. Whether it was a particularly skilled Meowth or just an adept berserker was difficult to tell, but it certainly had a fiery spirit that no all Meowth possessed, and homicidal urges to go with it.

But no offense is perfect, and by relying so heavily on offense, the furious feline left itself wide open - while Meowth were unnaturally adept at simple, not particularly powerful moves, more than capable of turning simple Scratches into surprisingly powerful blows, they were not heavily armored nor lightning fast, relying more on feline cunning and - for lack of a better descriptor - "burst" damage to quickly take out opponents before getting hit themselves. In leaving itself open, the Meowth sealed its fate before Xochipalli even noticed the flaw in its defense.

In one lightning-fast movement, the Growlithe nearly danced under the Meowth's attack, clamping pwoerful jaws against the Meowth's body once more. This time, though, the little berserker had no more reserves of life force, and abruptly went limp. The battle was over as quickly as it had begun, with yourself and your loyal partner the clear victors.

Probably ought to get both of them to the Pokécenter, though, and fast. Winner or no, Xochipalli was hurt to the point that - no matter how well she meant - she would be unlikely to be able to pull off another win.

:growlithe Xochipalli gains 50 XP, and immediately levels up to lvl6! The levelup grants Ember!
:meowth Nyurr, should you choose to capture her, gained roughly 38 experience, and is thus close to level six as well.

Xochipalli's XP/level has been edited into your profile.

Niochli was full of pride at the way Xochipalli handled herself. She showed superb form and restraint as she prepared to attack, and he let out a trilling victory cry as Xochipalli's Bite struck home. "Beautifully handled, lovely Xochipalli," he said, immediately jogging over and kneeling to praise her. He carefully scratched behind the ear that wasn't torn, petting her head very gently. "An excellent battle, and a well won victory over a worthy foe."

He turned to the fallen Meowth, now a miserable looking ball of fur, surprisingly small with all the vitality gone out of her. "And now to get you both healed up," he said decisively, tapping her gently on the head with a Pokeball to capture her. As she was unconscious, it was a sure capture, and he clipped the ball onto his belt as soon as it was secure. "And to save you the pain of walking with those wounds, I'll take you the same way," Niochli said to his injured Growlithe. She licked his hand, then let herself be put away into her Pokeball.

Niochli turned to the old fisherman and said, "I wish you luck with your catch of fish, Grandfather. Thank you for the opportunity to gain valor and a new ally." He bowed respectfully, and then turned and went into Ayer proper, in search of a Pokémon Center. While they didn't have any in his home village, there was an older one in the port town on the coast below it, so at least the idea of them wasn't new to him. He was, however, stunned at the sheer size of it.

He supposed he should have expected the building to be big, everything else in Ayer was big. But this one seemed to have rooms to sleep in attached as well! Niochli hoped that neither of his Pokémon were so badly injured as to require an overnight stay. He would gladly sleep on the foor or a bench if it were required, let alone a bed in an overnight room, he simply did not want either of them to be that badly hurt!

Inside, the air conditioning took him slightly by surprise, but he headed straight up to the counter anyway, advancing when a nurse beckoned him forward. "My Pokémon have both been in a strenuous fight, and I am here to request you to heal them," he said, unsure about the protocol he was supposed to follow. The nurse just smiled and took both his proffered Pokeballs, telling him to take a seat. A few minutes later, he was called back up to receive them again. He bowed his thanks, and then moved back into the common area, releasing first Xochipalli, then his new Nyurr.

The Growlithe looked as good as new, except for a couple ridges in her fur where it didn't quite lie as smoothly as it used to. Niochli suspected that would grow back in time, and he didn't detect any painful spots as he rubbed her small, furry body down. It wasn't that he didn't trust the nurses, he just wanted to make sure. He owed it to the partners that fought for him. She snuffled happily in his ear, her paws up on his shoulder, then sat down to wait patiently while they met Nyurr.

Understandably, she was a little timid, but whatever technology existed in Pokeballs had worked, and she didn't bolt or attack Xochipalli. After a little patient coaxing, she even came forward to be petted, purring slightly as Niochli looked her over, checking for damage from Xochipalli's bites, or any previous injuries. Not finding any, he stood up and stretched as the two Pokémon sniffed noses, getting acquainted themselves. "Would you both like to walk with me?" Excited as always to walk somewhere, Xochipalli bounded to his side, but Nyurr looked less thrilled with the idea. "I shall carry you in this for the meantime, then," he said, sending her into her Pokeball and clipping it on his waist. He headed out into the city again, curious to see what he could find.

I've updated your profile with your newly captured Meowth's information. Congratulations on the successful capture, and good luck to you on the rest of your journey!

Now that you've taken care of your two Pokémon, it was about that time to head out into the world. The city of Ayer had a lot to offer, what with it being one of the main tourist attractions of Tohea. Of course, there was the beach to the southwest of the town. You were guaranteed to find a diverse variety of wildlife - the sandy shore was known for teeming with Pokémon. Besides that, it was also a gathering place for aspiring trainers to mingle and playfully challenge each other to D-D-D-D-DUUUEEEELLLL! a round or two of Pokémon battles. If that wasn't your scene, you were sure to fall in love with the sheer natural beauty of the pristine ocean, captivating sand and awe-inspiring view. Besides the beach, there was also the option of going...well, walking around the city? Or out of the city and into Route One, one of the longer paths that the region of Tohea had to offer.

If you happened to take a look around your immediate surroundings, you'd notice that you weren't too far away from a City Park; about an acre of untouched, virgin land where several Pokémon could be seen playing. A lot of younger kids also took part in the fun - running to and fro, chasing each other for what seemed to be an eternity. Battling wasn't really common within the park, but there was nothing stopping you from brutally assaulting a helpless Pokémon for experience and whatnot. Speaking of which, there were a couple of wild critters frolicking about that you could quite possibly take advantage of. Not that I'm implying that you would do such a thing, but I understand that it could become quite tempting to do so. WINK WINK ;D

The two aforementioned Pokémon, a male and female Nidoran, quite possibly siblings, were playfully wrestling in the glade of grass. Peaceful, even tranquil they were - innocently minding their own business, yet also leaving themselves so vulnerable to random attacks by, oh, I don't know, a Growlithe or Meowth...or both, if that was your sort of thing. Honestly, though, it was something to do in a city that seemed to be god awfully boring at the time. You could always ignore the two Pokémon and head towards the beach or north towards the route. It was your journey; your choice.

It was a big relief for Niochli to find the city park. He was fascinated by the city and the sheer number of people around him, and he really did like exploring it. But he hadn't realized just how much he was missing trees. Granted, the park was groomed and obviously taken care of... and not particularly jungle like... but at least there were trees and green space. Xochipalli seemed just as excited, darting a few feet away to sniff at a bush in the manner of puppies of every species the world over.

She was too well disciplined to run far away without permission though, especially here where she could scent other Pokémon. While the press of humans and mind-boggling technology was new to Niochli and Xochipalli, they had grown up needing to be careful about where they went outside the village. Of course, that didn't stop her from wanting to pick fights and train.

Still, Niochli felt bad just attacking the two Pokémon. They weren't doing anything wrong, they didn't seem at all aggressive... and he was pretty sure there was something in a warrior's code of honor that prevented the attacking of innocent little Pokémon who were playing cutely with each other. So he moved on, looking for maybe another trainer to fight, or a wild Pokémon who seemed more interested in a fight. Or at least one he wanted to add to his team. Of course, he was also keeping his eyes open for a way to make some money, his original reason for coming to Tohea.

Well, money-making schemes were as common as Pokémon amongst trainer, with every would-be Pokeymans Masdurr having their own preferred method... ro at least very quickly learning which methods very much did not work for them, and eventually finding the proper method, whether by force or advice of a more established trainer. That was, after all, one of the things separating newbies from pros; the pros always seemed to have money to spare, whereas newbies had to ration out each Potion and Pokeball, through no fault of their own. Whether it was simply pro status that led to money or money that led to pro status was difficult to ascertain, and the truth was likely that the relationship was much more difficult to reduce to a simple input->output diagram, it was difficult to argue with the generalized statement that most pros were very well off, and that money generally came from something Pokémon-related.

There were a few major options, ignoring anything blatantly illegal - technically you could go join the Mafia or whatever and bump uglies for contract money, but that wasn't really a common solution. The two most common solutions, by far, were trainer battles and quests. The latter was something that any two-bit hack with some time on their hands could do, and surprisingly profitable if you were good at it. The idea was simple - find someone who needs help, preferably something that having Pokémon would make much easier, and bill them in return for your aid. What exactly the contract was varied from quest to quest, but someone always needed help.

Trainer battles, on the other hand, were somewhat more difficult to make money off of - but if you could, you could make bank. Risk versus reward, indeed; you could stand to make a lot of money very quickly if you went on a proper rampage, tearing through the ranks like wet rice paper, and it came with the fringe benefit of being perhaps the most efficacious method of strengthening your Pokémon as well, allowing you to fight stronger trainers for more money. A win-win situation, essentially... assuming you actually managed to win. If not, you were stuck being penniless, with very annoyed Pokémon who wouldn't really want to deal with your string of failures. Lose-lose.

"Oi! Kid!" A female voice rang out, belonging to a young woman walking unhurriedly towards you. Definitely a trainer, if the Sneasel hanging off her shoulder with one hand cupped around the back of her neck for balance was anything to go of, not to mention her total lack of concern about the razor-sharp claws mere inches from her throat. "Or... not kid, I guess. Heh, sorry. Thought you looked a bit younger from a distance, my bad. You got a second? 've been lookin' for a trainer to hit up for a battle, saw you wandering around like a headless chicken, figured you might be looking for the same thing. Interested?" She grinned, cocky but not condescending. Obviously a very self-assured woman, though not outright unpleasant unless you had a thing against her type. At least she was friendly and outgoing. "Basic league rules, I'm cool with one vee one, or one vee one with a backup Pokémon if you want to use both yer guys. Name's Arina." The last few words came with an outstretched hand, an extremely subtle motion for a handshake. Whether you took it or not was up to you.

Niochli smiled at her introduction, and took her hand, bowing slightly as he did so. "I am pleased to meet you, Arina. My name is Niochli, and I am not offended... I realize I am smaller than usual." Straightening up, he brushed a piece of hair elegantly out of his eyes. "I would be honored to engage in a battle with you. If it would be agreeable, I would like to have the option to use a backup Pokémon, to give them both the opportunity to fight, and to avoid serious injury as well." He knelt down, one hand resting on his companion's eager head, saying, "Xochipalli would be my lead Pokémon."

While he was eager to see how his new Meowth would do in a fight, Niochli didn't really want to lead out with her. It seemed cruel to throw her right into a trainer fight against something he didn't have the measure of yet. Xochipalli was more familiar to him, and he felt confident she could handle a tough fight, especially since she was in such excellent shape after going to the Pokémon Center. Some technology really was incredible and useful... if a little overwhelming. But now, he had a battle to concentrate on, something he was finally familiar with!

Looking around to see they were in a decently open area without any immediate trainers, Pokémon, or valuable items, Niochli stepped back slightly to give Xochipalli some room. Once Arina had also gotten out of the way of the fight, and her Sneasel jumped to the ground, Niochli started giving orders. "Xochipalli, I would like you to use Bite, see if you can get to your foe before it attacks you first." Xochipalli was a quick Pokémon, but that Sneasel looked very quick on its' feet. Still, the chance of a flinch made it worth the shot. Still, he wasn't going to put all his eggs in that basket. "Then, please try and keep your distance, and use Ember."

Arina smiled, "Sure thing, Niochli. Feel free to switch out whenever." She quickly motioned for the attention of the Sneasel, alerting it of the battle that would take place. The sharp clawed Pokémon quickly leaped off of Arina's back and into the makeshift battlefield, staring down your Growlithe with a burning fire in his eyes. "Prince, let's take care of 'em, aye?" The trainer said playfully, almost half-grinning in the process. The Sneasel looked more than prepped for the battle that would inevitably commence, bearing its twin claws in an almost taunting fashion. There was a brief moment of silence that washed over the two of you and your respective Pokémon...only to be broken by the barking of your commands and the gallop of your Growlithe.

"Quick, Leer!"

Arina spoke briefly and loudly, getting her order across without much wasted effort. Prince the Sneasel responded almost instantaneously, glaring viciously at the oncoming puppy with eyes that screamed terror. Xochipalli's charge was interrupted slightly as she struggled to shake off the nerves with no avail. Nevertheless, she continued on her path towards the Sneasel, bearing her fangs in preparation for the attack. Prince saw this, of course, and sprinted towards the Growlithe with determination. Arina coached him as she witnessed what would otherwise be a head on collision: "Intercept it with a Scratch! Don't stray too far away from the Growlithe, either!" You could only watch as the first round of the battle blossomed before your very eyes.

To say the least, it didn't really go as planned. The Sneasel's overwhelming advantage in speed proved too much for Xochipalli, and it managed to strike the canine before anything else. His claws ripped through the surface of Xochipalli's fur, causing immediate discomfort and a failed attempt at a Bite Attack. Prince's attack seemed to affect the Growlithe considerably, seeing as the victimized puppy rolled and scurried and backed away from him in an effort to create room. "Close in!" Arina quickly reminded Prince that distance would be a big no-no, and so the Sneasel continued the chase, readying his claws for yet another Scratch Attack.

This time, however, Xochipalli reacted just in time. The fire-Pokémon blasted an Ember directly at the incoming Sneasel, the flames scorching its face with a very painful degree of heat. Prince stopped dead in its tracks and took a few steps back, shaking his head vigorously so that he could recover from the blast. Once the pain was realized, he crossed his claws and sharpened them with one another - standing in a defensive stance. Xochipalli and Prince were now, once again, staring each other down with just about a good three yards between them. It seemed as if neither had the upper hand just yet.

Niochli winced as the Sneasel danced effortlessly around Xochipalli's Bite. Next time, he would go with his hunch, and not bother wasting the move. In any case, at least Ember had hit as solidly as he'd hoped. Xochipalli seemed shaken by the attack, but still solid. Now he had to decide whether to continue with the battle as it stood, or switch out to Nyurr. He was keen to get her some experience, but that Sneasel had proved to be a very powerful foe... still, if it became too much for the Meowth, he could always call her back. And the way it stood now, Xochipalli was still capable of battling if necessary. He preferred that to sending her out when she was badly hurt.

"Xochipalli, stand by," Niochli said. The Growlithe's posture changed, going from aggressive and wary to just watchful, and she dissolved into her Pokeball quickly. "Nyurr, I would like you to try a battle now. Your opponent is very fast and dangerous, so be careful. Please Stretch out to be as agile as possible." He wanted his newest Pokémon to avoid injury, if possible. "I would like you to use Scratch on the Sneasel, twice if possible." He remembered how devastating her attacks had been to Xochipalli the battle when he caught her, and hoped they would have a similar effect on this foe.

Nyurr looked around, her ears twitching curiously, sniffing the air. Realizing that she was in a battle, and in a battle for a trainer for the first time, the Meowth was eager to get started. Niochli's voice was soft and quiet, but easy to hear for a Pokémon with ears like hers. She'd noticed how smoothly he'd commanded Xochipalli in their fight, and the way he'd looked her over afterward made her willing to trust him, or at least give him the benefit of the doubt. And dodging was always a good strategy anyway before slicing your opponents until their blood ran in rivers.

This thought process was quick, and mostly took place while Nyurr was relaxing into a good, agility-enhancing stretch. Crouching down after she finished, her tail swished back and forth, measuring her balance before springing forwards for the first of her attacks.

Arina caught eye of your swap to Nyurr. She didn't say anything about it on the count of the battle conditions and played it off like nothing happened. Battling two Pokemon against one isn't a crime, especially if both aren't on the battle field at the same time. "Two can play a game like that!" The trainer spoke while rummaging in her pockets for a purple spray-bottle. "Prince, come on back for this here potion." The trainer's feline Pokemon with the saber claws quickly retreated to her master's side while you swapped out your Pokemon.

Nyurr the Meowth elegantly joined the battle on your side, stretching her body out to prepare for battle. Your strategy seemed to be a wait and counter attack type of deal, a norm among new trainers. The whole idea of dodge that attack and hit with your own isn't exactly a horrible one by any means, it's just that the more advanced a trainer is the more methods they have to battling. Because what happens when your foe is packing moves like Faint Attack or Shockwave? And what if they're packing Lock-on? Not to mention AoE attacks that are nearly impossible to '>dodge'. The ability to think outside the box and find advantage and strategy in Pokemon's movepools- both your own and your opponents- help make great trainers what they are.

"Back to the fight mate!" Prince, Arina's Sneasel was looking way healthier than before. Clearly the potion she used helped the Pokemon refuel a lot of its health. With fell hit points and the urge to battle Prince once again took to the battle field, awaiting his trainer's commands. "Use Taunt!" Obeying his master's commands the Sneasel began to taunt Nyurr in various ways including pulling his eye lid down and sticking his tongue out, turning around and smacking his rear end and by pointing and laughing at the cat's forehead coin. Nyurr quickly became frustrated and would no longer have that, quickly running towards the dark type enemy with her claws ready for battle.

Prince surprisingly continued to make fun of his incoming opponent, not worrying that the cat was about to scratch him silly. The Sneasel fell to the ground laughing at how pathetic Nyurr's charging was. Scratch attack ensued, taking a portion of Sneasel's health down and stopping his giggle fest. "On your feet, Prince! Use a dark attack!" Like he hadn't taken the battle not seriously at all Prince rose to his feet with fury in his eyes and a glow of darkness on his twin claws. "Snea!" The Pokemon cried while hacking away at the enemy Meowth with a form of darkness energy. Nyurr cried a bit in pain but looked ready for another round.

It was certainly different fighting trainers rather than wild Pokémon. The possibility of a switch and the far increased likelihood of item use made it an interesting experience. More fun too... with higher difficulty came more honor and pride in one's skills, for the Pokémon even more so than the Trainer. Nyurr certainly seemed quite eager to continue fighting. Of course, part of that was probably the Taunt in effect... While it might be nice to experiment with different kinds of moves, at this point in time Niochli doubted his Meowth would listen to him if he'd tried to suggest a nice Growl or something.

He was probably right about that. She was already searching for another opening, too driven by the earlier Taunting to bother with a lot of strategy. The way her foe had abruptly stopped laughing when her attack landed home was immensely satisfying too, and she was hungry for another chance to show that darker, bipedal cat who was the boss around here. Too intent on causing damage, Nyurr didn't stop to think that maybe that was a side-effect of the Taunt as well, just a more subtle one.

Niochli could see that Nyurr was tensing up for another attack, and decided he'd better give her some direction before she went flying into battle. Assuming she would bother to listen, of course. Hopefully as long as he was directing her to attack, she'd listen to his advice. "Nyurr, use Scratch as soon as you can get close enough. Please do try and avoid any damage, but if it retaliates, be sure to strike back with another Scratch if possible, or any other way you can do damage." Hopefully in her Taunted state, Nyurr would be able to land two solid hits, and put an end to this before the more experienced Sneasel beat her down. He was worried that her focus on dealing damage rather than avoiding it would end up costing her dearly, but was willing to give her the chance to finish the battle herself. Maybe her sheer will to beat her opponent would be enough to tip the scales in her favor.

Nyurr's claws extended from her paws, signaling that she was ready for another round of battle. Heeding your commands she swung one paw towards Prince, hacking away directly at his stomach. The Sneasel didn't cry out in pain, however, and instead stood his ground, waiting for his trainer to orate another chain of commands. Arina gave a content smile to her dark warrior, proud to see that he was able to absorb Nyurr's first attack and still be ready for more. "Prince, parry her next attack with your own scratch! Try and use her own move against her." The Sneasel flicked his knife-like claws from his paws, taking a stance that would allow him to counter Nyurr's next scratch attack.

Your feline hacked away at Prince once again, the dark Pokemon parrying with his own attack just as he was ordered. Nyurr and Prince's claws were interlocked and the two stood face to face as they tested each others endurance. Prince's facial expression didn't show that he was trying his hardest to stop the opponents attack, if he was even that is. Instead the Sneasel had a rather cunning smile etched on his face, his eyes attempting nonchalantly to make contact with Nyurr's. Suddenly, Prince lost his footing and toppled to the ground only to fall victim to Nyurr's second round of scratch assault. The cold dark type pathetically rose to his feet, trying to fight back the pain he was experiencing. His eyes hardly could stay open and his legs weren't doing their best to support him as he wabbeled to and fro, swining his arms outward to try and grab support on anything. After a brief stint of flailing about like a drama queen Prince took one final stagger towards the ground, falling elegantly onto his knees. The moment the Pokemon fell towards the road Arina pulled from her pocket a red and white sphere which turned her Sneasel into a haze of red energy.

"Well, if I do say so myself you're a little more than I expected. I like the way you handled things, even with that improptue switch up you still managed to pull off some nice moves, not to mention your Pokemon's strength. Here's a little something from me- a token of thanks for battling me. And hey, this will come in handy along the road too. It's a Super Potion." Arina approached you, handing over two twenty dollar bills along with a red spray bottle. She seemed friendly enough, even after you wiped the floor with her Pokemon. The lady didn't stay much longer to make conversation with you, and instead headed in the other direction towards a crowd of people where she would blend right in, probably never to be seen again. Her Sneasel, Prince, took to her shoulder just like he had before, turning his head to give Nyurr that cunning smile and a slight wink of his left eye.

With a trainer battle under your belt the horizens in this wonderful land were slowly starting to show themselves for you. Battling, of course, is the quientessential part of being a trainer and raising strong Pokemon. Somewhere down the road you never know what you might find yourself up against, so perhaps seeking out members of your party now would be a good idea? Expanding your arsenal of soldiers to answer the call of becoming the most powerful Pokemon around couldn't possibly hurt, and with all the prize money from that battle you could surely invest in a Poke Ball or ten. Maybe some supplies to send yourself on a trek through the region to hunt and collect warriors of all elements?

($300 from The League, $40 from Arina, plus a Super Potion. Xochipalli earned himself 45% of total EXP, translating to 34 EXP while Nyurr earns 75 EXP, everything's updated in your profile already.)
