"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

As Pokemon and their trainers travel with one another and cohabit, they begin to grow closer. Of course, one would expect just such a development, although nothing with Pokemon can be so simple. For some reason, it appears that the unique bond between trainer and Pokemon fosters various kinds of changes within their relationship, and sometimes the Pokemon themselves. Pokemon's moves may react in differing ways depending on how nicely or poorly their trainer treats them, and some species are even rumored to evolve once they have bonded sufficiently with a trainer. In addition, the communication between the two becomes more and more meaningful and clear as time passes and the two become used to the idiosyncrasies and habits of one another, to the point where they may as well be speaking out loud to one another. The more comfortable a Pokemon is with its trainer, the more risks (and the bigger the risks) it will take in battle and out, whereas an unruly creature might not obey orders at all. Here at Tohea, we measure happiness in a simple scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. Starter Pokemon, the Pokemon with whom you begin your journey here on Tohea, begin at Happiness level 3. Captured Pokemon, the Pokemon you have caught after encountering and battling them in the wild, begin at Happiness level 1. Befriended Pokemon, the Pokemon you have encountered in the wild and then convinced to join you without a battle, begin at Happiness level 3. Traded Pokemon, the Pokemon you have obtained through a trade with another trainer, begin at Happiness level 1. Event Pokemon, the Pokemon you are granted through promotions or other OOC site rewards, begin at Happiness level 2. In addition, there are a few further notes on Pokemon Happiness - how it effects evolution. Baby Pokemon who evolve through Happiness (Cleffa, Igglybuff, Pichu, Togepi, Azurill, Chingling*, Budew**, Riolu**) will evolve at Happiness level 7. Basic Pokemon who evolve through Happiness (Eevee, Golbat, Chansey, Buneary) will evolve at Happiness level 9. *at night. **during the day. Now how, you ask, can you impact your Pokemon's happiness? While that may seem like a rather trivial question, we are discussing and measuring their overall happiness and the strength of their bond of trust with their trainer, not simply how happy they happen to be at any given moment. While they may be 'happy' (the mood) at any given time, we are looking for something deeper, which can often garner the mood of happiness as a side-effect. Pokemon gain happiness for positive actions trainers perform and lose a point for negative actions. +1 For winning 10 wild battles. +1 For winning 5 trainer battles. +1 For winning 3 PvP battles. +2 For beating a Gym Leader. +1 For winning a contest. +1 For placing in 3 contests. +1 For every page the Pokemon is owned. +1 For outstanding RP circumstances. +1 For every 5 levels the Pokemon grows while owned. +1 For permanent HP/EP altering items. +1 For giving the Pokemon a rare candy. +0.5 bonus for each Happiness change if holding Soothe Bell or captured in a Luxury Ball. -1 For losing 5 battles (until Happiness 6, at which point this modifier no longer applies, RP may apply). -1 For being Knocked Out while commanded by the trainer (RP may apply, does not stack with losing). -1 For using Energy Root, Heal Powder Energy Root or Revival Herb. -3 For blatant abuse or other mistreatment, including extensive neglect. May be more than 3 points lost. Finally, Happiness effects two very specific moves - Return and Frustration. Detailed below are their respective powers at varying Happiness levels: RETURN'S BASE POWER
FRUSTRATION'S BASE POWER
