"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

Evolution is a fundamental, genetic shift in a Pokemon - a step forward from its previous form, toward survival and adaptation to the world around it. In many cases, evolution makes a Pokemon stronger in countless ways, filling it with new and unharnessed energy; sometimes they even gain or change types entirely. It is a topic much studied by Pokemon professors and scientists across the world, as it seems to effect nearly all Pokemon that have been documented or discovered. What is it that spurs a Pokemon to evolve? What is it that causes some Pokemon not to? Are they perfect just as they are, or have we just not discovered a way to improve them yet? The answers to these questions are only available through time and research, sadly, however there are some specific mechanics that have been well documented. Most Pokemon evolve when they reach a new level, unlocking inner strengths and breaking free from their previous limitations. Enveloped in a blinding white light that represents their inner energy, they physically change in many ways - in size, in colors, or sometimes even in the number of appendages they possess. These Pokemon will never be the same, and sometimes Pokemon only evolve once because they have reached a plateau of adaptation. However, not all Pokemon wish - or need - to evolve. Some Pokemon simply refuse to, or are afraid of the drastic changes that will overtake them. Sometimes they are satisfied just as they are, or their trainer doesn't want them to evolve for whatever personal reason. In these cases, it is possible for a Pokemon to simply ...not evolve. Additionally, if a Pokemon BEGINS evolving, it may be interrupted by its trainer - the process takes time, sometimes several minutes to complete. A jolt of any kind can interrupt the process. If a Pokemon was interrupted in evolving, however, that does not mean that it can never happen! A Pokemon is eligible to evolve at ANY TIME after it satisfies the conditions necessary for the evolution. The exception to this is any item-based or location-based evolution. Once a fire stone approaches a Vulpix, it is absorbed into its body and personal energy without the option to halt the fusion, melding until the two become one - a Ninetales. Once a Magneton leaves the proximity of the Riverwood Power Plant's extensive electromagnetic field, it can no longer evolve into a Magnezone. It must be in the vicinity of the Plant in order to actively evolve, although it may return at any time/level to do so. It should be noted that evolution is expressly between player and Pokemon in a strictly OOC fashion - no mod will ever presume to evolve your Pokemon. Instead, they will alert you when you have satisfied the conditions necessary to go ahead with the evolution. If you do not feel comfortable or able to describe it, you always have the option of giving it a very short mention, however this is discouraged considering the profound effect it has on the resultant Pokemon. If you specifically wish for a mod to handle your Pokemon's evolution, please clearly state as much in an OOC note in your journey, and reiterate the note in your referee request post. Special CircumstancesDue to certain game and board mechanics, some evolutions work a little differently here on Tohea, as described below: TRADE EVOLUTIONS will evolve into via an item called a Link Stone. will evolve into via an item called a Link Stone. will evolve into via an item called a Link Stone. will evolve into via an item called a Link Stone.TRADE+ITEM EVOLUTIONS will evolve into when leveled up holding a Metal Coat at level 15+. will evolve into when leveled up holding a Metal Coat at level 15+. will evolve into when leveled up holding a King's Rock at level 25+. will evolve into when leveled up holding a King's Rock at level 25+. will evolve into when leveled up holding an Upgrade at any level. will evolve into when leveled up holding a Dubious Disc at any level. will evolve into when leveled up holding a Deep Sea Scale at level 15+. will evolve into when leveled up holding a Deep Sea Fang at level 15+.LOCATION SPECIFIC EVOLUTIONS will evolve into if it levels up while in the presence of the Riverwood Power Plant due to its electromagnetic field. will evolve into if it levels up while in the presence of the Riverwood Power Plant due to its electromagnetic field - or within the depths of the Woldton Caverns, due to their natural ambient energy. will evolve into if it levels up atop the Iceholme Mountains, once in the presence of permafrost. will evolve into if it levels up deep in the forests of Tohea (Evereste, Hawthorne, Fennelwood, Firma) where the air is cleansed and purified by trees and plants decades old.OTHER EVOLUTIONS will evolve when a attaches to it for transportation at level 15+. The Remoraid remains a separate Pokemon, whether trainer owned or wild. will evolve into when it reaches Happiness level 9. Its trainers love for it, despite its hideous appearance and useless nature, teaches it to see the beauty within. All other evolutions function exactly as in the games - give a Sneasel a Razor Claw and level it up at night to receive your Weavile, for instance. In cases where more than one evolution is possible: for instance, leveling up a Happiness 9 Eevee atop the Iceholme Mountains during the day (which could result in either an Espeon or a Glaceon), the resultant evolution is strictly up to the player. Other players choice evolutions include: ![]()
