Expanding Your Roster

Catching Pokémon is the one way a trainer can expand their collection of the creatures here on the Tohea Region RPG. Within the hidden caves and bountiful forests are hundreds of creatures waiting to be discovered by humans! The traditional method to add a wild Pokémon as their partner is weakening the target enough to toss a Poke Ball and hoping it stays shut after three vigorous shakes. Trainers in Tohea can use other methods to obtain wild Pokémon which are listed below. Wild Pokémon are spawned to the players by a referee, each Pokémon having a certain spawn quality, which includes the environment in which they are found and their rarity.

Standard Capture with a Pokeball

The method described above is the common way to obtain a wild Pokémon, and is what most trainers will do. There are a few reasons fighting a Pokémon can be beneficial, including the EXP gain for damage done, testing out the wild Pokémon in battle and learning its moveset before being captured as well as gaining it some EXP too.

There is no complex formula that goes into the capture rate of a Pokémon, but instead is based on the amount of damage the Pokémon has taken. Remember that once a Pokémon is knocked out or fainted they are still able to be captured, which is what most players will tend to do.

Befriending

When a trainer doesn't wish to harm a Pokémon for whatever reason, they may always take the route of trying to befriend a Pokémon. When it comes to befriending a wild Pokémon, the main factor is its personality along with how well the trainer makes an attempt at befriending it. Don't expect to ask the Pokémon to join you after one post of meeting it and think it will accept. It will normally take five or six posts to befriend a Pokémon completely in order for it to join your team, but there are always factors at the referee's discretion which tie in. Befriending a Pokémon has the advantages of having the Pokémon become immediately more friendly with the trainer, or if the trainer's Pokémon are too weak to battle the Pokémon. As a side note starting a battle with a Pokémon and trying to befriend it at the same time usually doesn't work out too great.

When a Pokémon is befriended the trainer is still required to use one of their Poke Balls in order to add them officially to their roster.

Other Methods

Other methods of catching them all include:

Hatching Pokémon from Eggs If your trainer obtains an egg they will have to watch over the egg for however long it takes to hatch the egg, which is dependent on the species of Pokémon inside the egg. A certain number of days in your journey will end up hatching your egg, the cap being 10 days. When a Pokémon hatches from an egg they are instantly considered to be befriended by the trainer, which would mean the trainer would only have to 'capture' the Pokémon to make adding it to their team official.

Obtaining Pokémon from a Trade You can obtain Pokémon from trades with NPCs, or with other characters. In order to set up a trade you can post in the Topic Tohea forum auctioning off Pokémon or bidding on others but all trades must be connected IC.

Obtaining Pokémon from an Event In the case of an event or promotion that on the forum that results in trainers obtaining a Pokémon the Pokémon are automatically deposited into that character's box. Pokémon obtained this way are considered to be gifts from the League.
