Jack nibbled on the fresh grass as he relaxed around the Poochyena. It wasn't trying to eat him and that was really all he cared about right now. His ears were alert and listening to identify any scary noise. Orthrus watched the Bunaway carefully and listened as well. Just the smell of the Pokémon alerted him that he was easy picking for probably any other Pokémon that wanted him. Especially the Spearow in the area.

That's when Iz noticed the Caterpie. It was her job to notice things and the small green caterpillar was easy to spot. Her eyes traveled up to the fierce looking bird hanging out in the tree, eyeing the Caterpie with a hungry look. At least it wasn't looking at Jack like that. Well, if she kept the bird at bay, she could probably have Jack take that thing on. She was sure Orthrus could keep the Spearow off long enough.

"Hey, Jack," she said. The rabbit popped up on his hind legs, staring at her. Then he licked at his paws and began cleaning his face. "Okay, even I admit that's really cute. But still, see that Caterpie?" Both Pokémon glanced over at the worm but she could see Orthrus' ears stay on the Spearow. "Go get it."

There was a horrified look on the rabbit's face. Rolling her eyes, she tapped her cane on the ground. "No, just go challenge it. Give it a Tackle. You're better than a little Caterpie." Maybe if she sweet talked him, she could get his ego up. It seemed to be working as his chest puffed up. "Now, go get him!"

Jack seemed to get some confidence as he hopped to the Caterpie. "Orthrus," she called, watching the Poochyena's head turn back towards her. "Keep that Spearow out of the way." He barked and stood, slinking off to stand at what he thought would be the sidelines of the battleground.

Jack was petrified at the idea of getting into a battle at first, but upon hearing your words, he decided that you were right. He could take on a little worm and not be afraid of anything happening to him, couldn't he? Let me answer that with a resounding NO! I mean, he'll battle him, sure, but he wasn't the most brave thing, as you've already said plenty of times. He hopped right over there and when he got closer to the Caterpie stopped for a moment, weighing his options. But when he looked back at you, he realized that you were counting on him for this, so he puffed out his chest again and ran, smacking the caterpillar full on with a Tackle.

Spearow screamed bloody murder, and that's literal, because if you were a Pokémon you would have heard it say "BLOODY MURDER!" As in he's going to tear apart Jack and leave a bloody mess, or at least that's what his intentions are. But as soon as he took flight, Orthrus let out a Howl, raising his attack and causing Spearow to stop flying towards the other two. Seeing that the dog was staring him down, he knew that a battle with the Poochyena was inevitable and dove down towards him. When he reached Orthrus, he was swatted down instantly, your loyal companion not letting anything come to him. Then he bit down hard on Spearow and you winced, knowing that that had to be damaging. But when he let up, you saw that he must not have bit to kill, because Spearow immediately flew back into the air. You must have an honorable Pokémon there.

Meanwhile, Caterpie was shocked that she was just hit by your Bunaway and couldn't understand what she had done to deserve this. So in order to protect herself, she started to spray a String Shot at your bunny, who saw what was happening and tried to get out of the way. Jack was mostly successful with that, except the String Shot did manage to wrap his hind legs together. He fell and started to chew on the strings right away, knowing that he couldn't just let himself fall to doom like that. See, he can't be too bad, even if he is now panicking in complete horror.

Spearow dove again, this time able to use a Peck on Orthrus' head, though that didn't do too much damage. Orthrus tried in vain to use a Tackle, missing completely. But this battle isn't too bad, it could be worse, that's for sure! And I honestly think you have a really good shot here!

[Both Spearow and Caterpie gained a level from the other post. Just wanted to mention it.]

Well, at least that had worked. Somewhat. She felt a little sorry for the poor worm although she wasn't entirely sure she should leave it for the Spearow. That seemed a little...cruel. Frowning, she watched Jack attack the Caterpie and get sprayed with...spit. There was no other way to put it. Long, sticky strands of spit. Iz winced and now felt sorry for poor Jack who was now on the ground with his feet tied. A fleeting thought of lucky rabbit's feet passed through her mind before she pushed it out. That was not what she wanted to think about.

Orthrus was keeping the pissed off bird at bay. Those things were pretty mean but the Poochyena could be mean right back. He snarled and snapped at the bird to keep it off and she winced when he managed to mouth the creature. It appeared to be okay though and it took to the air again. He bristled to appear bigger to drive the Spearow off before it dive bombed him.

"Okay, Jack, get through that and try that fang attack, thing," she trailed off. Dragging out the PokeTech, she resisted the urge to throw it when it started blabbering. "Attacks, dumbass. Okay, Hyper Fang." Iz turned to Orthrus then, wishing she just had a pair of binoculaors. "Keep it off, Hellhound. Use your mouth when you can but keep it off. And no repeats," she gave as stern of a look as she could to the dog to make sure she wasn't rushing a pissed off bird to the center.

Jack was pretty pumped, and he just knew that he could put this little worm looking thing into the ground. For once he actually felt like he was the one to be afraid of, no matter what situation he might have been in. Your command of using Hyper Fang made him believe that he could do this, and so he quickly snipped away the last of the threads just as Caterpie was charging at him. Keeping himself from snickering, Jack quickly leaped out of the way, and when Caterpie turned around for another attack, he jumped at her, biting her hard with his Hyper Fang. This severely cut Caterpie's health, and she made a little noise of pain before trying another String Shot. Jack was already out of the way though, and the threads just shot past him before he ripped into her again with another Hyper Fang, fully cutting her health away to 0.

Meanwhile, Spearow was dive bombing Orthrus again, but he clearly hadn't learned, since he was swatted down like he was before, and this time Orthrus tore into the bird. With two quick Bite attacks, Orthrus brough Spearow down to just about no health left. And as Spearow couldn't fly anymore because one of his wings were crushed, Orthrus finished him off with a Tackle attack. This battle was quick, and both of your Pokémon clearly knew a lot more when it came to battling than the wild ones did. Your Jack there got 50 :exp and Orthrus gained 77 :exp . I'll add that in right away, and I'm thinking that you're free to do as you please now!

Both Jack and Orthrus looked incredibly pleased with themselves at their achievement. Jack was beaming, standing taller, and looking a lot more confident. That was all the rabbit needed. Although, instinct dominated his brain still as when the Spearow shrieked, he cowered just a little. They would have to work on that small detail. Orthrus was baring his teeth in a grin and looked a little more...dangerous it seemed. Iz smirked at that. This was going to be fun.

Now though, there was some things to attend to. Her leg was feeling better and she was ready to start off again. "Come on, guys. Let's find a center. Hopefully there's one close by." Orthrus stretched his stubby legs before taking his spot by her cane. Jack dashed over and climbed up her leg to her shoulder. He kneaded her bag for a moment before settling in.

They set off together. The PokeTech began to babble and she hissed at the muffled voice. As though knowing what she wanted, Jack dug out the offending object and held it over her shoulder. She nearly threw it to the ground to silence it when she spotted the picture it was displaying. Pausing, she studied the picture on the screen. It was a small, brown fox-like creature with a fluffy tail. The text above it named it 'Eevee' and, as she listened to the rantings, she found herself desperately wanting one. "That one looks like fun," she mumbled and flashed the screen to Orthrus. Iz found it funny when his fur bristled at the image. "Cool your jets. Center first, then find it." He glared at her and she glared right back. "You got a problem, Orthrus?" she snarled. He backed down then, looking apologetic. "That's what I thought." Iz began to limp again in a direction that looked feasible.

Orthrus quickly followed behind you, not wanting you to be upset with his distaste of the Eevee you seemed to want. He just didn't care for you getting a fluffy, cute Pokémon, as you already had Jack and he found that to be enough competition. Jealousy wasn't something he liked to show either, so having shown it just proves how upset he was over that desire of yours. But I'm sure he'd be happy to know that this Pokémon is so rare you probably won't find one for an incredibly long time.

Luckily you were going the right way to the Pokémon Center, and a kind trainer stood next to the door to make sure it didn't malfunction and close on you. Orthrus growled at the trainer with distrust and glared at him while keeping as close to you as physically possible. Nurse Joy saw you come in and smiled, waiting for you to hand over your Pokémon. She healed them for you and gave them back and started to watch the broadcast on the TV. Everyone in the Pokémon Center was watching the TV closely, so much so that you couldn't even see it. If you really wanted to know what was on it you'd have to go over there yourself and make people move.

However, you should know that there isn't a lot of time before night comes, probably only two hours remain of daylight. So if you want to get to another city or something, you should probably get moving.

Thank the Lord, she thought when she found the red and white building. It stood out amongst the others. Strangely, she didn't consider herself a religious person but she did find herself saying several things that would probably make others think she was. Either way, she was here and there was a very kind kid at the door holding it open. She thanked him even as Orthrus growled. Rolling her eyes, she tappened him on the back with her cane to get him to stop. He was turning so green, she was surprised it wasn't bleeding into his fur. Sighing, she hobbled to the front desk and returned them both. She wasn't going to have him growling and snapping at everyone in here.

Alone for a moment, Iz rolled her neck and slid into a chair. The center was a little crowded although, as she finally checked the time, she figured why. It was going to get dark soon and she better find somewhere to stay the night. Iz was not sleeping outside in this city. Her knee throbbed but it was manageable. She wondered if she could swipe some meds for her knee.

The nurse called her up when the two were done and she held them in their PokeBalls for just a while longer. She was enjoying this solitary moment. As solitary as one can get in a room with several people gathered. The TV seemed to be a hotspot and she figured she could check it out before she headed back out onto the town for her quest. It better not be that damn kid. Jack took his place on her shoulder/bag while Orthrus sat, sulking, by her leg. She was going to beat him if he didn't get out of his funk. Either way, she'd spend an hour on the town and then Iz would find a nice place to spend the night.

A handicapped trainer? That was a rarity in this region, to be sure. But it was apparent that you wouldn't allow adversity to stop you dead in your tracks, and that may have been on your mind as the Nurse ushered you out of the center as she was going on dinner break. How rude could you get? If I had been in your position, I'd have gotten your cane and started beating her with it. But good thing you were a level headed person and treated everyone rather nicely- I wish I could say the same for myself. Anyway, at least the breeze was nice and that was something to be thankful for.

Well that sort of sucked.. no medicine for your knee, a rude nurse, and the possibility of being forced to sleep outside. Apparently this was not your day. On the bright side, at least white-marbled Wayford was not grim, harsh Hurst. And unlike Hurst the people around here were a lot nicer to people so maybe you could get lodgings with some other people--twould be alright I'd assume. But this was no time to think of going to sleep: right now you had things to do and one of them was to catch that large pink Pokémon that was sitting in an unassuming alley way, attempting (and failing miserably) to hide itself from public view. There was an obvious trail leading to the area where it currently inhabited from other areas. It was trying to make a break for the forest outside of Wayford. Now was as good a time as ever to try and catch it.

Even before she was able to see what was on the TV, the nurse was ushering everyone out of the door. Orthrus, distracted from his sulking by the shooing, growled at the nurse before Iz shut him up by tapping the cane. Jack startled at the sound, unused to the cane. His nose twitched several times before he settled down again. He began nibbling on her hair and she swatted at him to stop. He squealed and hid under her hair so that only his feet were visible. Iz merely groaned in annoyance. So, as she was being ushered out like the rest, she was busy trying to keep the peace with both dog and rabbit. Iz glared at the nurse as the doors shut behind her. Well, fine. Orthrus growled up at her, looking sulky and just a little put off by the whole thing.

"Okay, seriously, Orthrus, pull that stick outta your ass before I do it for you and beat you with it."

He sulked again but quieted down. His ears twitched and he glanced behind him at the dark alley. Red eyes spotted the not so subtle pink puffball and he watched it curiously. It looked a little scared but seemed to be in a hurry. His staring caught Iz's attention and she followed his line of sight to the creature. Blinking rapidly, she stared at it, her, whatever. Memories echoed in her skull of waking in the hospital, alone and strapped to a bed. A Chansey had been the first living thing she had seen in her drugged haze and had been her primary caretaker. The creature, named Nurse Lucky, had been probably the kindest individual she had ever met. Now, faced with what was probably another one, she thought about it for a moment. She was very intent on her original search of the Eevee but having something that could probably pop her knee back more effectively than she ever could was even better. And hey, free medical help with some training.

Weighing her options, it would probably be bad to immediately try to fight it. She had been on the bad side of Nurse Lucky one day and had ended up curled on the floor to try and avoid the Chansey's blows. Those things could maim as easily as Orthrus could. But just walking up and approaching something that was pretty scared would probably be a bad idea as well. Humming a little, she figured out what she wanted. Iz limped over to where the creature was trying to hide. Grimacing, she slid down the wall and sat on the ground near enough to touch the Chansey if she wanted to. Orthrus glanced at her before sitting down as well. Jack poked his head out and cautiously sniffed the air. She gave the hand signal for Orthrus to trap if the Chansey ran. Hopefully, the Dark-type would be enough for the moment just in case. "What's wrong, little Chansey? Scared of the big, bad city?"

Cool and consoling. You chose the correct way to deal with a scared and now cornered Pokémon. Only if I were you, I'da probably gotten a little farther away from the Chansey as it was liable to begin smacking you if it wished. Orthrus stared at the pink Pokémon with malice tinged with pity, it was apparent that he would do his duty to you and mawl the poor Chansey if it tried to escape you, but it was also clear that he would not do it with happiness. Inside of both Orthrus and Chansey there was a sort of kindred spirit between them. Niether would be happy if they had to fight each other, and lucky for both of them and you that would not have to be the case. At least not yet.

As your cool words pierced the night air, Chansey looked up at you with a sad, dreadfully frightened look on her face. In response to your question Chansey first pointed to all of the buildings in the area. Something in the distance seemed to catch that faint movement and came stalking over to the area you inhabited. With determinded fingers she pointed and gave a shriek at what appeared from the dark and lurkey shadows

:growlithe :male Level 8

Now there was a variety of things that you could do concerning this Growlithe. You could have Oruthrus battle it, or you could convince Chansey to overcome its fears and battle it. The second option would create a bond between you and she might come willingly into your pokeball. And maybe you could even capture the Growlithe as well. Both new additions to your team would be infinately useful. Just watch out, Oruthrus might feel challenged.

The little arms waved a bit and she shrunk back just enough to stay out of their reach. Whatever anyone said about her, she would admit to being terrified of the pink blob. Those little fists hurt if used right. The Chansey just pointed back behind the way she came in fear, as though something was chasing her. Her fear was noticeable and she'd be damned if anything was coming after this Pokémon. Although she was in a sort of predicament. On the ground, she was pretty vulnerable as it was going to take her at least a few minutes to get back on her feet. If something was after the Chansey, she was going to be the first in line for the thing. Well, crap.

Of course, that would be the time when the creature dashed forward. It was a Growlithe, not unlike the ones she had taken care of in prison. However, this was a wild one more than likely and did not look happy. And, of course, she was still on the freaking ground with nothing but a cane to protect her in case it slid by Orthrus. The Poochyena was snarling at the Growlithe to try and shoo him off but it didn't seem to faze him.

"Orthrus," she whispered, feeling panic start to bubble up. "Cut it off, cut it off." The dog grunted and leapt over to stand in front of the two, three if Jack was counted. The rabbit was hiding in her hair again. She wasn't going to send the bunny out, not knowing if the Growlithe would snap his neck or not. The rabbit was not ready to face it down anyways. "Howl Orthrus, try to drive it off. If it comes any nearer, Tackle it. Careful of the teeth."

Iz struggled to climb to her feet to try and at least be bigger than the red dog. She couldn't quite get her leg underneath her though and she'd be damned if she had to crawl somewhere to get back up."He'll cover you," she told the frightened Chansey. She was taller than anything else around as well so she added, "Help me up and we'll keep it away."

Okay, okay I must admit that your position sort of sucks right now. You can't get up and lets face it; Growlithe can probably get to you faster than Orthrus so your options were pretty grim. Standing completely still only works on bears, lions, tigers, Blastoise, Charizard, and everything else aside from Growlithe so I don't recommend doing that. But wait, you've already come up with a good course of action. Good good. I just can't promise it'll have the desired effects. Oh wait. Yes I can.

Everything went as planned to begin with. The wild Growlithe stood his ground despite Oruthrus's attempts to ward him away. Your Poochyena then positioned itself in front of you in order to protect you and your possibly new Chansey from harm. Loyalty is one of the best qualities that a dog can have. Growlithe bore its teeth in a fierce expression and advanced slowly towards Orthrus. Obviously the thing was hungry and simple treats weren't going to suffice. Orthrus pawed the ground, his view as a one last attempt to ward off a fight. Growlithe wouldn't take that. Next your Poochyena performed a howl and again the Growlithe wasn't phased. When it became clear that Growlithe wouldn't leave the area, Orthrus rushed at him with a tackle, causing a surprised Growlithe to yelp in pain. Not to be seen as a lesser dog he, as Orthrus was against him, unleashed a sharp bite from its' sharp teeth, drawing blood. Surprisingly the dog Pokémon rushed back to your side after the round and then positioned itself in front of you. Protecting you was his principle goal.

Meanwhile you were attempting to befriend the Chansey. It was going well until Orthrus attacked Growlithe. The fire Pokémon's yelp spooked Chansey who gave a cry of her own. Finally after hearing your words, she began to help you up to your feet, something that infuriated Growlithe. Anger resounded in Chansey's countenance when she saw Orthrus hurt and she looked ready to battle. Maybe call outs ome orders and she'll listen to you, eh?

The pink puffball was strong, she would give her that. She rocked back and Iz found herself on her feet again. Her knee ached like a sore tooth but she wasn't going to let that stop her. At least, not yet. Resting on her cane, she winced as Orthrus took a pretty hard hit. He stayed in front of them though, still growling. Loyalty was his strong suit now but even still, the Growlithe had hunger behind him. Jack wasn't daring any movement now, huddled against her neck. She could hear his breathing in her ear and she couldn't send him out.

One look at the Chansey made her consider something else. The pink blob looked mad at the Growlithe. Actually, she looked downright pissed. And, she knew first hand what this Pokémon could do. Well, it was worth a shot. It wasn't like she had any other idea on what to do except beat the creature with a stick.

"Chansey, I think you can take this Growlithe on. Your breed is known for its power. Go up there and just punch it. Orthrus will cover you and he won't let you get hurt," she said, glancing briefly up at the hungry dog. "Orthrus," she said a little louder. "Keep it off, if it bites, you bite. Throw some Tackles in there too."

Jack stayed huddled against her and she reached up with her left hand. "S'all right, Jack. You're fine. Just stay hidden and out of sight." He squeaked in her ear, claws digging into her neck for support.

You were sending Chansey on this fool? Good luck to the Growlithe. But of course, the fire-dog didn't know that it was about to get WTF pwnned by a pink blob. And you, though you knew the power of Chansey, had no clue if this one could fight as well as the one who had taken care of you in the hospital long ago. But what the hell, it was worth a shot. And if it didn't work out you could just beat Growlithe with your cane.

But yes on to the battle: Chansey pulled back the skin on her arms like there was cloth there and began to advance on the Growlithe. Curiosity plauged this Growlithe even more so than its hunger for a few seconds as it wondered why its prey was advancing on him. Hunger once again gained mastery over Growlithe as he made a jaw-open lunge at Chansey, oblivious to the fact that Orthrus was there waiting to protect her. But it wasn't Orthrus that stopped the Growlithe. Chansey *****-slapped the Growlith and sent the thing flying across the air. Not to be outdone by your new pink friend, Orthrus bit Growlithe while it was down causing more hp to be lost.

It was your call, KO it and then catch it, or capture it now.

"Jesus," she whispered, wincing as the Chansey just nearly single-handedly took out the Growlithe. Oh, she felt sorry for it. No one should ever be on the receiving end of a Chansey slap. Hell, she could still hear the hit echoing in the air. It looked incredibly startled too and even moreso when Orthrus snuck in for a bite. He didn't look too good now as he began bleeding from the bite wound. She could probably catch the dog now.

Now came the hard part. Knowing his somewhat hatred of the Chansey, it might be a bit hard for the two to come to peace. Although, maybe if she got him some food, he would be okay with the Chansey. There would be no doubt of his loyalty. Orthrus might be a problem as well but he would need to deal.

Rolling her shoulders, she smiled as Jack squealed in surprise. He poked his head out and stared at the Growlithe for a brief moment. Then he vanished again, only to reappear with a disengaged PokeBall. An eyebrow rose at this and she briefly wondered if he was some sort of psychic. Or, he was just really good at reading her body language. Either way, she was starting to wonder if having him on her shoulder wasn't such a bad thing after all. But, she needed to focus on what was at hand.

Orthrus circled the Growlithe as she whisled. Well, it wasn't so much of a whistle as just blowing air between her teeth. He moved forward slightly, trying to keep the Growlithe in one spot and distract him from Iz. She tapped the ball once to engage it and then aimed at the dog. She was a terrible shot but she hoped she could hit the thing with it only being three feet or so away. Iz chucked it at the Growlithe and crossed her fingers.
