Well, your new life in Tohea was beginning now, was it not? You stepped off the boat into Wayford City, and everything was going to be grand. Right? Wrong? You aren't a wanted criminal here. However, that doesn't mean there aren't criminals here. A small girl walked by a richly dressed woman and smiled sweetly. The woman leaned down to hear something that the girl whispered in her ear. The woman stood back up and smiled. She walked away, but the little girl had a wad of cash and a string of pearls hidden behind her back. The girl pocketed them and turned to see you staring at her.

She walked up to you and said, "You saw, didn't you? I can't let you tell anyone." She pulled out a Pokeball from somewhere and threw it to the ground. She wanted to fight you for your silence. I don't know how well that would work, but it was worth her trying, right? Would you be willing to fight?

She nearly cried when she stepped back on dry, and stable, land. Walking on a boat that rocked with a bad leg was not fun at all. She couldn't remember the number of times she had nearly twisted her knee out of place on board. Glancing down, Iz watched the grey body move with a practiced gait. He walked slower than was probably natural to stay in line with her. Ears swiveled to listen for threats. Okay, maybe she had given him a useless and driven job to keep him happy but he was driving her and everyone else insane. Orthrus, as he was a hellhound, was protecting her leg. He took his job a bit too seriously though and growled at anyone who came within a foot of him as he walked right beside his "client". He stayed far enough away to avoid being accidentally attacked by her cane. Orthrus was still a bit shy of it after she clubbed him with it in self-defense when he'd gone for her.

He'd come a long way, she'd give him that. He was at least not attacking her anymore. Her cane still had battle wounds from that fight though. After that, he'd become a much more happy and obedient creature. That, and she fed him apples as treats. Orthrus seemed to love them enough to perform basic tricks for a small slice. Of course, she'd stolen most of them from the kitchen but hey.

Iz wobbled to a stop, panting slightly. She hadn't walked that much in a long while and her leg had started to protest just moving. Leaning on her left, she sighed and gazed about the city. It was...nice. Nothing really spectacular but cleaner than the places she had been. Orthrus paused besides her, red eyes shifting back and forth to stand watch. Sighing, she rolled her neck and managed to catch sight of a little girl. The kid was slick, she'd give her that, as she watched the little hands slide the pearls into her pocket. The woman didn't know what hit her. Orthrus eyed her suspiciously for a moment longer before checking behind him.

"You saw, didn't you? I can't let you tell anyone."

She looked back, one eyebrow rising. Was she serious? Iz blinked a couple of times as a very hairy monkey thing popped out. Okay, she was serious. The monkey didn't look too happy either. Orthrus bared his very large fangs at the creature as a warning to stay back. "Jesus Christ, kid," she found herself swearing. "You've got to be kidding me." Her Poochyena, however, wasn't laughing. His tail had bristled to nearly double its usual size and his red eyes were flashing. "I step out of one nut house and into another," she mumbled. If she didn't fight, the monkey (was that a pig's nose in the middle of its face/body?) would probably go after them and Orthrus would fight anyways. Iz considered the fact that she had no choice but to defend herself. Sighing, she shifted around to let Orthrus free of his usual job. His body went tense as she pointed the cane at the monkey. Those ears focused on its heartbeat and his entire body stilled. "Sic'em."

The command was simple: rip it to shreds like the canvas bags he had attacked on the ship. He snarled viciously and eyed those long limbs. Attempting to avoid the walloping from them would be crucial. He was game though and ready to charge forth.

((Lucky number 36!))

"Sic 'em"

Your Poochyena charged at the Mankey viciously, and with no actual attack given, your Pokémon was going to savage the opponent and use its own brain. The girl quickly gave a command,

"Quickly, Mankey, use Agility to get away from that mutt and then use Low Kick!"

The Mankey nodded, and as Orthrus approached the Mankey sidestepped out of the way. Your Poochyena wheeled around and chased the Mankey, but the Agility driven Pokémon was too fast for Orthrus. Suddenly the Mankey came to a halt, and Orthrus pounced upon its prey.

But the Mankey swerved around with brilliant timing and kicked your Poochyena in mid air, sending it sprawling across the floor. This was not going well. The girl then spoke again,

"Well done, Mankey! Now, I want you to use Leer to scare that little pup and then Low Kick it again!"

So, what's the plan? Maybe next time you should make a more structured tactic. But suddenly your thinking of your next move was interrupted as you noticed something by your feet. It was your lucky day. Down on the floor was $200!

You've gained $200!

At the moment, Iz was somewhat surprised the dog hadn't turned tail and ran to hide behind her. He could be such a coward at times. Orthrus was up though, shaking his head and looking a little dazed at the kick. The Poochyena's gaze wandered back to her as he was at a lost on how to proceed. She didn't mind the stare but she wasn't too keen on this either. This was a beat the crap out of each other contest, right? And that monkey thing was probably an expert at this kind of thing. This wasn't looking good.

Orthrus was still staring at her and she probably should give him something. Rolling her neck again, she spotted the small wad of cash of the ground. Damn, why was it on the ground? She had enough trouble sitting down on the ground, how was she going to bend over enough to grab it? Well, maybe she could.

"Orthrus, come over here," she called. His brow furrowed a little but he obeyed nonetheless. His tail wagged briefly as she tapped the cash with her cane. Understanding, he gently grabbed it with his teeth and held it up for her. Smiling, she let him drop it in her hand. His mood lifted as she praised him silently with a pet and then leaned down a little to whisper in his ear, "Use a Howl to intimidate him and get you going. That kick's a worry so stay out of the way of its legs. Try and get close enough to tackle it, but if not, keep it moving. You've got the stamina." Tweaking his ear, she sent him back off to the fight.

Now, for the brat. The little girl was just insane or hadn't been at the thief business long enough to know you didn't do a Pokémon battle to keep people quiet. "You know, win or lose, I'll probably still go to the police. I wasn't going to until you stupidly made me fight." Iz grinned, leaning on her cane. "The only way you're getting out of this is if you kill me."

The girl watched you and your dog play fetch with the money. She gave a smirk as you told her, you’d go to the cops. “Well, once we win, my Mankey’s going to break your other leg. Then all that cash you just found will be mine.” She laughed a little, as she whispered her commands to the monkey combatant at her side.

Orthrus eyed the creature that had given him a swift kick. He threw his head back, Howling at the sky. His dark fur bristled in anger as he stared at the monkey. The Mankey heard this cry and flexed it’s thin arms. He rushed in, delivering a Tackle to your Poochyena.

Your dog slid back, all four paws digging in to keep traction. The Mankey backed up a bit, wondering what was coming next. Orthrus ran in, lowering his head. He slammed into the Mankey with his own Tackle. The Mankey flipped over mid air, and landed on his feet several feet away.

The Mankey started circling your Poochyena. He was looking for an opening. The girl across from you smirked. She was feeling pretty confident now. Mankey made another run at your dog. He set his feet, ready to be Tackled, but the mankey slid in, like a baseball player. His Low Kick caught Orthrus in the ribs.

This wasn’t going very well. Your poor dog was getting thrashed out there. And then another strange occurrence happened. A rabbit-looking Pokémon came running around the corner. It looked startled to see other Pokémon battling. It leapt over Orthrus, delivering a Hyper Fang to the Mankey! The bunny jumped off the Mankey, landing in your backpack!

This sudden weight, and the creature’s thrashing around was about to topple you. Just then, there was a red flash of light from your pack, and a *click* sound. You backpack suddenly got lighter as well. Had that weird little Pokémon just trapped itself in a pokeball? This place was so random!

Congrats, you just caught a :bunaway :male Level 5 with Hyper Fang!

Iz snorted at statement. "Oh no, another broken leg and I'll be broke. Seriously, is that all you got?" It would be a miracle if Orthrus pulled this off but there wasn't any reason not to try. At least, for now. Maybe she'd beat the monkey with her cane for good measure. She winced as the pup took a couple of hard hits that knocked him down. He shook his head to clear out the cobwebs that had formed from the beating. Then his ears swiveled back towards her. She thought he was waiting for an order. Iz opened her mouth to say something when a brown streak breezeed past her. Startled, she stepped back a minute.

The rabbit, as she could now see it clearly, paused for a slight moment. It looked terrified in the split second she spied it. Then it leapt at the monkey and sank it's large incisors into it. Those powerful back legs propelled it backwards and away from the furry monkey. It dashed at her and did a clear jump over her head and into the bag she had slung across her shoulders. Its weight, though minimal, was enough to send a streak of pain through her knee. She forced the weight onto her other leg before her knee buckled. There was a small click and then a small flash and the weight lifted. Her knee sighed in relief. Orthrus stared at her, then her bag, then back at her. She shrugged, not even understanding what had just happened.

The Poochyena growled softly as though to get her attention again. His tail was hanging limp and he looked completely lost. She had no idea what to do really. He knew two attacks and neither were really working. Then his huge canines flashed and she smirked. Might as well use his favorite weapon. He'd have to get close but at this point, she could care less. "Get a hold of him and don't let go."

The girl sorted with displeasure at your voice, but she said nothing further. She too was watching the battle, that was going in her favor. When the stray bunaway made a cheap shot on her mankey, her fists clenched in anger.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?! That was a cheap shot!" she shouted, looking down at her mankey, who was bleeding profusely from its left arm. What was she yelling about? I mean, it's not like you knew a random Pokémon would come flying out of the woods, attack your main target, and capture itself in a pokeball without any struggle at all... Man, it really was weird around here.

Orthrus nodded at your command. Simple enough. Grab on and don't let go. He knew how to do that. The girl, looking more grumpy than ever, looked over at you, her eyes expressionless.
"You're not gonna' win. You might as well give up now and let us break your leg, so we can get the hell outta' here." she said, mocking you. But she looked startled when Orthrus shot away, propelling himself forward with his hind legs. His sharp jaws opened in mid-air, and clamped down upon the mankey's neck... Or at least, what looked like its neck. The mankey screamed helplessly, trying to beat Orthrus off of it, but the way he had positioned himself made the creature unable to hit him. A lucky break! Finally! It thrashed and screeched, and all its trainer could do was watch as the blood flowed freely down its body, and spattered messily to the ground. Your Pokémon was actually killing the mankey.

Not always a bad thing.

Iz was still a little speechless at the entire event and bristled a little when the girl accused her of cheating. Little spoiled brat. She hadn't expected a freaking rabbit to leap out. She would have hoped that had not have happened as her knee was still singing. She growled a bit and swore she would figure out what the hell had just happened later. Right now, Orthrus was needing a support system.

He snarled and dashed forward, much faster than she thought he could. His fangs flashed briefly before he sank them into the monkey's...neck? We'll go with neck. He held the monkey as he would a prey animal. His nostrils flared as he sturggled to breathe through the mass quantity of fur. The monkey struggled to buck him off but he held fast and it would take hell opening up to get him to let go now.

She spied the blood dripping from the creature's neck. It began to splatter on the ground in large amounts and probably wasn't a good thing. Her mind flashed, seeing blood flow from her shoulder as she laid helplessly. She shook her head, clearing her mind. She didn't need to go back. Looking back up, she watched as Orthrus closed down a little bit more. It looked like he had hit either the vein or the artery and that wasn't a good thing. Orthrus kept his eyes on her, waiting for the release command.

Iz flashed the back of her hand and Orthrus let go. He backed off immediately and licked the blood and hair off his chops. "Your Mankey's going to keel over soon and die. He needs medical attention now. You keep fighting, I'm not taking any responsibility for his death." She hoped the statement would get the girl thinking and out of her hair. Then again, the girl could turn this around and make her the bad guy in this bout if she left her on her own. Gritting her teeth, she whistled for Orthrus to come to her. The Poochyena trotted back and sat by her cane. "Let's go," she snapped. She was not going to jail over a girl's moronic actions.

The girl tried to say something, but her voice caught in her throat. You could hear the mankey's labored breathing as you walked away, your loyal poochyena at your heels. You had gone a good twenty feet when you heard the moronic girl clear her voice. This wasn't over yet.

"Hey! Come back here! I said we were going to win, and I meant it!" she shouted, causing Orthrus' fur to bristle along his spine. He understood enough of her speech to get the gist of what was happening. This girl was going to make her Pokémon fight-- Even though it was dying. You had given her fair warning... So if a Pokémon had to die today, then that's the way things had to be. You could do nothing but keep fighting. "Come ON! Mankey, show them who's boss!" added the girl, pointing at you and Orthrus.

The sick looking creature looked up, its eyes having been on the ground for a solid minute while the girl had spoken. Its eyes were dilated, and as it moved toward you, it stumbled a bit. But the girl pushed it forward, chanting commands left and right. You were hardly surprised when the mankey collapsed, arms sprawling, less than ten feet before you. Blood quickly began to pool beneath its unconscious form, while its trainer stood by helplessly, unable to comprehend what had happened. You could do nothing but wait and see what would happen next.

Orthrus watched the fuzz ball warily. The thing was still on his feet and still considered a threat. He panted a little, more from anxiety than from exertion. The scent of blood was strong and his ears could pick up the erratic heartbeat. He could smell death approaching although he wasn't sure if that was a metaphor or if he could actually scent it. The Poochyena could feel the aches and pains now that the adrenaline rush was wearing off.

Iz could feel Orthrus bristle as the girl yelled out commands. Heck, she was bristling as well. Granted, she didn't look as intimidating as the hellhound did. He snarled and yipped at the girl, then at the monkey when she didn't listen. He wasn't in to unfair fights like this. Sure, he was a predator but this was different. She held her hand in front of his nose although she was sure he wasn't going to take the bait. Her eyes narrowed at the girl, wondering if she was psychotic or just not getting it.

Then the poor thing collapsed and lied still. Orthrus tensed, red eyes glued onto the prone form. Blood began to pool around his body and she was once again sucked back into a cold night. She clutched the cane tighter as she saw the filthy wall dripping with blood. Iz could feel the unspeakable pain again, could feel blood pouring out of her shattered knee.

Fur brushed against her hand. She looked down as Orthrus gazed up at her with sad eyes. He whimpered, licking her hand once as if to comfort her. She looked back at the monkey and knew she had to.

"Do you know what it feels like to bleed to death?" she asked, limping over to the prone monkey. "Get him in a PokeBall. He might last long enough to get to a center before he dies." Orthrus manuveured to stand between her and the girl. His eyes flickered to the monkey before focusing on her. "Or we can stand here and chat while he bleeds to death. Either is good for me."

Maybe it was the tone of your voice, or what you had said may have sunken in. You really couldn't be sure. All you knew was that this girl had lowered her gaze to the ground, and she timidly plucked a pokeball off of her belt. She aimed it at the nearly dead mankey and recalled him. He was transferred back into the ball with a flash of red light, though the puddle of cooling blood remained.
"Thanks," she merely said, before turning and jogging up the hill toward the Pokémon center. You watched her go, fresh thoughts of your own ordeal ringing through your consciousness like a bell. It felt good to know that you had saved a life, but you still couldn't be sure if the poor creature would live or not. He had been on the ground for a while.

There was no sense in thinking about it.

Now that Orthrus had won the battle, your chest filled with pride at your Pokémon's skills. He was fairly young, yes, but it was all too apparent that he could hold his own in battle. This both reassured you, and comforted you, for you knew that as long as you were handicapped, this brave little creature would protect you with his life.
"Poochyyyy!" he barked happily, his tail wagging. He plopped down on the trail in front of you, as if asking you what to do next. Now that you thought about it, you weren't really sure.

The path was right there in front of your eyes. You could take it; see where it led. Or you could go find some more Pokémon? They were always good things to have on long journeys. Meh, it was up to you. Choose, m'lady.

[Well, good enough. I guess the Mankey's fate will be left unknown. I'm not entirely sure if the Bunaway has already been spotted but I'm going to claim the PokeTech knows what it is.]

She made sure the girl got off. The stupid kid wasn't as smart as she believed now. Good thief, just didn't have the brain capacity to see anything past her nose. Leaning on her left leg, she tilted her head and just stared off. The poor thing would probably die. The amount of blood it had lost. Iz stared down at the puddle. It would be a miracle if he lived. Well, her life had been saved? She didn't know by what but it had been considered a miracle that she had lived.

Orthrus glanced up at her and wagged his tail. He looked happy, somewhat. There was still a sadness in his eyes but she figured it would fade. Besides, he had defeated a creature, one that was probably his superior in everything. He may have done it in an...unorthodox way but it was still considered a win. The hellhound sat and stared up at her with inquiring eyes. Oh yeah, now what?

Iz hummed for a moment. Orthrus could rest a while, she guessed. There was the little problem of what the hell had happened beforehand though.

She shrugged off the bag and dug around through the pockets. It took a couple of tries before she found the PokeBall that had captured the little rabbit-thing. "I might need you to play retriever. Can you keep those fangs in check?" He frowned at her and she shrugged. "Just putting it like it is." Preparing herself, she leaned against the wall and undid the latch and let the creature out.

It was...unremarkable. The small, furry rabbit sat huddled on the ground for a moment as though it had no idea what was going on. Then it spied Orthrus and let out what sounded like a scream. Its back legs kicked out and it flung itself back at her. She braced herself for the impact and did a doubletake when it started climbing her leg. "Jesus Christ," she swore. Iz grabbed its scruff and held it at arm's length. It's small, black eyes stared at her as it sucked in air. "Well, what the hell are you?" She hated the thing but dragged the PokeTech out. It immediately roared to life and began spewing out information. "All I need is a name and gender." She fought back a snarl.

"Bunaway? Seriously?" Iz glanced at creature. "You guys get the worst names." He, as it was now confirmed, still stared at her and huddled when Orthrus came over to sniff him. "Calm down, we're not having rabbit stew, Jack." She mulled it around her head for a minute. "Ah, unremarkable name for an unremarkable creature." Shrugging her bag back on, she reached back and set the bunny on her shoulder. Jack didn't seem to understand at first but then settled against her neck. His head peeked around from behind her hair before he curled up comfortably on his roost. "Let's just hope you don't get picked off while you're up there."

Rolling her neck, she nearly smirked when the popping bones made him squeal. "This is gonna be fun. Let's go find a park or some crap like that. I need to sit somewhere I can get back up. And he'd probably appreciate some grass."

A park, eh? Well, I can't bring you to one of those, but I know something that will do.

The path was long, and especially so because your rate of moment was much slower than it had been before your... Ehhh... Accident. Not much happened, though. You saw a few Pokémon on the way, but nothing that would really help out your team at all. Just a baby rattata, level 2 at best. Oh, and there was a caterpie... Not even worth stopping for. It was a terribly depressing walk, and by the time you got to this "park", Jack was dead asleep. Frankly, you were afraid to wake him up. Startling him might result in a nasty bite to the jugular... Which, may I add, was extremely close to his mouth. (xD)

Lucky for you, he smelled the fresh grass. It had gotten warmer in your last battle, though you had hardly noticed. The grass was looking rather greener than it had before... Was winter over already? No. Christmas hadn't even come yet!
Jack hopped off your shoulder and landed on the ground rather clumsily. He rolled once, to stop in front of a small patch of clovers. Bending down, he began to nibble on them happily, his eyes closing with glee.

Meh. At least you found something he liked.

Unremarkable seemed to be a wonderful word to describe everything at the moment. Not that she minded of course. She'd take a normal, boring walk over a stampede of Tauros running down the street at her. That would probably get her running though. Limping down the streets, she enjoyed the fact that the air had become warmer. The cold did not do her leg any good. Orthrus lumbered beside her, sometimes glancing up at the rabbit curled upon her shoulders. He still seemed a bit unsure of the rabbit but at least he wasn't eating him.

The Poochyena perked up when a baby Rattata appeared from behind a trashcan. He paused for a moment before staying in line with Iz when she kept moving. A small caterpillar suddenly emerged out of nowhere and that had Iz pausing for a moment before she kept going. She found it strange that the rabbit had fallen asleep on her shoulder considering she didn't have the smoothest gait. But Jack was snoozing on her shoulder, his ears still alert to any sounds.

Then the grass emerged from the concrete jungle and Jack perked up. His nose twitched and he suddenly scrambled down her body to munch on the tender shoots. His mouth worked frantically as though this was his last meal. She snorted at him before manuveuring onto a bench. Her leg sighed in relief as she stretched it out as far as she could. Orthrus at first sat beside her. "Keep the rabbit safe. I'm pretty sure he's easy picking." The dog glanced at her before shrugging and plodding over to Jack. The rabbit squealed and huddled down, staring up at the monster. Orthrus rolled his eyes before lying down and looking uninterested. It took several minutes before Jack finally relaxed enough to eat again. Iz rolled her eyes. He was somewhat useless. Cowardly and such. Maybe he got better as he evolved. She really hoped so. It would probably be wise to start doing something with him to get him there. Iz didn't want to carry this timid thing around forever. And she sure as hell wasn't going to be laughed at for having something called a 'Bunaway.' Who made these names anyways?

Well, there was surely something pathetic enough for him to fight. Hopefully. She knew she should've stopped and challenged that Caterpie. Now though, maybe she could find another one. And, if it came down to it, Orthrus could help out. Maybe.

You shouldn't be too harsh on Jack now, I'm sure he really wants to do what you would like him to do as well. It's just that he thinks he's easy prey, which isn't that far off really. Especially in the park where there are lots of birds that could swoop down and carry him away as a little meal. That wouldn't be very good, now would it? So yes, let's see what we can find for your little Bunaway to kill shall we? And yes, I do believe that there's something out there that Jack shouldn't be too scared of.

As a matter of fact, there is another Caterpie that Jack could probably almost easily destroy. It's at the same level, and Caterpie aren't exactly the strongest of Pokémon. So if Jack defeated it, he would grow another level, inching his way closer to evolving. Which is what you want, isn't it? Although you might want Orthrus to keep away the Spearow that's eyeing the Caterpie at the moment.
