Like old tradition, a Pokémon trainer sets out on their journey for whatever reason with their Pokémon in tow. Some journey for wealth, some journey for the sheer benefits of seeing the world in all its splendor; although, one must always be wary, for not all people are righteous in their beliefs. There are people, who wish harm on Pokémon, and treat them as mere tools of war.

But hopefully you’re not like that. And so, your journey begins. The city of Tohea is in perpetual motion as people around you go about their daily lives, unaware that potentially they are in the presence of the next Pokémon Master. However, everyone must have their small beginnings, and this is yours. Your Pokémon, Swinub, is kept safely in its Poké ball for the time being, and you wonder where to go first.

Would you go to the Pokémon Center and inquire as to what the hustle and bustle was about the upcoming Pokémon contests; or the Poké Mart and stock up on supplies before heading out into the large world? Another viable option would be to have a look around the city, take in the sights and maybe find a Pokémon. So many things and so little time, what ever will you do? Whatever it is, it is completely up to you. Your story is about to unfold through the pages of what is commonly referred to as history.

Your surroundings? Amongst the crowds of people littering the streets, walking to work and generally setting up the city for a busy day’s work, stands you. The new Trainer on the block and quite frankly, its no wonder you’re a little bewildered about what to do. The buildings around you rise into the sky, and you see a flock of bird Pokémon fly overhead and then out of sight. Happy hunting!

Victor stood in the center of Tohea. Wondering what to do, he thought carefully about where he wanted to go. He held his Pokebal in hand, with his Swinub safefully inside. He began walking toward the Pokémon Center. He remembered that Swinub was still in his Pokeball, so he slowly pressed the button on his Pokeball.

In a flash of light, the Pokeball opened and Swinub appeared in front of him. It stood in the grass, not moving. Suddenly, Swinub tunnneled under the soil and resurfaced closer Victor. He bent down to see his partner. He stroked Swinub's fur, receiving a sigh of gratitude from Swinb. He picked up Swinub and sat down on a nearby bench. Swinub jumped from Victor's arms and sat next to him.

"Well, Swinub, where do you want to go on our first day as a Trainer and his new Starter Pokémon?", he said to Swinub. The small Pokémon looked in his direction, but Victor knew he could barely see anything. Swinub looked in the direction of the Pokémon Center and grunted. Victor wondered if Swinub was hungry.

"We should probably go to the Poke'Mart first, Swinub. He need supplies. And on the way, we might meet new Pokémon!", said Victor. He stood up and picked up Swinub.

"Lets go, buddy! We have a long journey ahead of us.", he said. Victor began walking toward Poke'Mart, thinking about where their travels would take them.

Indeed, finding the Pokémart wasn't too much trouble. Why, you may ask? The trademark blue roof was a giveaway, for one thing. The other was that it was nearby to begin with. How easy is that? Pretty easy if you ask me. Anyway, let's zoom back into reality and not my stupid musing.

Entering through the sliding door, you found yourself in a wonderful little establishment. The floor was made up of white tiling, and the walls and ceiling were covered in oaken panels. Wooden shelves of various sorts of merchandise and price tags were all over the place. Near the front counter were some barrels filled with berries, Pokeblocks, different varieties of Pokémon Food, and Poffins.

A younger guy of about twenty or so was behind the counter, wiping it down. Looking up and smiling in your direction, he asked the usual "May I help you with something?" Really, he didn't need to ask, but politeness was crucial to his job. You didn't get a chance to answer, however, as a slight crashing in one of the aisles averted the attention of both of you.

Arriving on the scene, some little girl's Phanpy had panicked and had started messing up stuff on the lower shelves. Obviously the poor thing couldn't control the Pokémon, as it looked relatively hardy and fresh from the wild. Apparently human habitats didn't really suit this little elephant. She was yelling for someone to do something, but the clerk didn't seem to have any Pokémon available. Well, I'm guessing you're the only one around to stop this...unless you don't care. Maybe you can use the distraction to steal something.

Have fun with the elephant!

Victor noticed the girl and her Phanpy as they entered the Pokémart. Then, when the saw the Phanpy starting to panick, he knew there was bound to be trouble. Swinub looked at him with his nearly blind eyes. "Well, mabeye we should do something.", he said to Swinub. "Swinub Swin!", answered the Pokémon in a way that clearly meant, "DUH! What do you think Mr. Obvious?!"

Swinub turned and faced the Phanpy, which was causing the disturbence. "Well, if you insist.", said Victor. He felt and odd surge of energy and a sudden delight at the thought of his first battle. Then, he shouted his order: "Swinub, use tackle to stun that Phanpy!", he yelled. He didn't know how his attack would go or how it would affect the Phanpy, but Victor hoped for the best results.

Swinub start running at the havoc causing elephant, and tackled it head on. Since the Phanpy didn't notice the small brown pig Pokémon running at it, it made no attempt to dodge. It was hit and thrown into some boxes that just crashed over the rampaging Phanpy.

In the background you heard the storekeeper give a groan. "I just stacked those a half an hour ago." He said with a slight annoyance. But regardless of his tone of voice, you could tell he was relieved to have the phanpy dealted with. The Female trainer too seemed more relaxed now, that her Pokémon had be taken care of.

The moment was short lived however, because the boxes tumbled over yet again. This time the Phanpy looked even more angry as it stepped out of the boxes. It looked injured from the tackle and the boxes falling on it, but it wasn't hurt enough to stop its rampage. It took a few minutes to assess the situation and make a decision based on what was happening. It began to run head long at your swinub.

Swinub seeing possible danger made a move towards the right, which worked and the Phanpy ran head first into a wall. This seemed to stun the phanpy, but who knows how long it'll last. Swinub moved so it was standing by your legs, alwaiting further instructions on how to proceed.

Well the little elephant wants a fight, I say show it a good fight. Maybe that'll calm it down a bit. Maybe if you help calm the phanpy down, both the store keeper and the trainer will give you something for your troubles. Oh well right now you just have a stunned and angry phanpy on your hands. Right now you have the upper hand, so use it well. The good luck may not last for long, and you may need the advantage.

"Ouch! That's got to hurt.", said Victor as the Phanpy ran into the wall. Swinub seemed to smile at the fact that the Phanpy missed him. Swinub looked at Victor and snorted. "Swinub?", he asked, meaning, "Another go?"

"Well Swinub, we stunned it, but we also knocked over those boxes. Mabeye we should stop.", he said. Swinub frowned and nodded. "Swinub Swin," he said sadly. He walked over to Victor and stood beside him. "Tell you what, if I can't calm it down, you can finish it off. Okay?"

Victor approached the stunned Phanpy. He petted it softly and rubbed its back. "It's okay little guy. Calm down.", he said in a soft voice. He had used the same tone when he was trying to calm other wild Pokémon, so he hoped it would work with the Phanpy. "Do you think you could help me calm him miss?", he asked the Phanpy's trainer.

((As I say to other newcomers, don't forget your Pokémon can use attacks from the Global Attack List.))

You walked over to the stunned Phanpy and started to pet it and tried using a soothing tone in your voice to clam the little one down. Wait, touching him? Phanpy shuddered from your touch and cried out. "Phaaaanphhhyyyyy!" Shoving straight into your chest and pushing you down to the ground, then climbing off and trying to run to the back of the store away from you, crashing into a stand with Pokefashion magazines causing them to scatter in Phanphy's path.

As this happened, Swinub didn't like it. Swinub didn't like it one bit, and started getting angry at the crazed Pokémon. Swinub understood its cries well enough, its afraid of humans and enclosed places, but that doesn't mean he can just shove his trainer down! "Swiiiii!" Swinub charged the elephant and used Headbut, pushing Phanphy back, getting Phanphy's attention. Phanphy charged, and Swinub too, both using Headbut at each other, but neither gaining much ground so they jumped back. Now that Phanphy was in battle, he seemed to forget that he was panicking.

"Ouch!", exclaimed Victor when Phanpy pushed him. Swinub used Headbutt and to get the Phanpy's attention and then used Headbutt again as the collided. "Swinub, it looks like we have to fight this Phanpy, but I wish we didn't have to. Use Headbutt again, but this time, aim for the Phanpy's side! Knock it over and used Tackle to again to stun him!', he yelled at Swinub. Swinub gave him a reasuring nod and charged.

As Swinub attacked, Victor looked at the other Trainer. "You could try to calm it down, you know! Why don't you do something? If your his Trainer, he might listen to you! Ask him to stop or something!"

Phanpy see's the headbutt attack coming. Wisely, instead of attacking it head on again, it decides to make defense move instead. Pahnpy uses Defense Curl and wraps itself up in a ball. t then takes a direct hit by Swinub though it appears that the damage from the Headbutt is much weaker than before. Then Phanpy unwraps itself afterward, and that is when you tell your Swinub to use Tackle. Phanpy see's the attack coming and moves out of the way of it. It jumps over Swinub and get's behind it as Swinub tries to make the Tackle.

"Phanpy Phan!"

Phanpy was getting pumped and into the battle. As Phanpy was behind Swinub, it saw it's chance to attack. With Swinubs back turned, Phanpy used tackle and attacked Swinub from behind. The Phanpy was getting very tired. It was using a lot of it's energy from making several moves in a short amount of time.

"Swinub! Are you okay?", asked Victor as he ran to Swinub. Swinub shook himself and turned to the Phanpy, apparently angry. "Swinub Swin! Swin Swin!", he answered. He growled and waited for Victor's orders. "Well, lets try to actually hit him this time, and not miss, okay?", he said. Swinub nodded.

"Okay, Swinub. Use Headbutt and aim for the Phanpy's head. Then, us tackle and try to knock him over.", he said. Again, turning to the girl Trainer who owned Phanpy, he said, "Miss, your Phanpy is causing a lot of trouble and I think that mabeye you could calm him down. Please, just try to calm him."

(Try adding a bit more description and length to your posts, if possible)

Despite your urging, the little girl looked absolutely petrified and in a state of shock. She kept muttering stuff like "Shouldn't have borrowed him..." and "Tim's gonna be mad..." Looks like she'll have some explaining to do when she returns home if she lives anywhere nearby. More than likely the Phanpy wouldn't listen to her anyway even if she hadn't "borrowed" it. At least she'll learn something from this messy little experience. Sadly you're the one who has to do the cleaning up.

Phanpy started this round off by charging straight at Swinub with a Tackle. Not wanting to be outdone, your little hairball ran straight-on at its opponent with a Headbutt. Both of them collided at exactly the same moment, the force of both attacks throwing both of them backwards. Phanpy was sent flying into a shelf, and Swinub was sent into your left shin with a painful *smack!*. You're definitely going to feel that in the morning.

For some odd reason, Phanpy didn't get up off of his feet. Thinking that he had this in the bag, Swinub trotted over to his opponent with a Tackle on mind. However, just as your little pig reached the elephant, the little baby gave a wicked grin and started whaling on your Pokémon with Flail. This was particularly lethal since Flail is useful when a Pokémon's HP is down. Still, Swinub barely managed to complete the Tackle and defeat Phanpy. You had finally done it, but your Pokémon was only hanging onto consciousness with a small thread of health.

Swinub gained 66 :exp and grew to Level 6!

All of that said and done, the girl hurriedly recalled her Phanpy and muttered a "Thanks" to you before trotting out of the store. The clerk sighed as he watched her retreat, and then he remarked, "She's always unintentionally causing trouble. I won't press charges this time..." Turning to you, he added, "Thanks for getting rid of that pestilence. For that, I'll give you at least three free items of your choice as long as they aren't too pricey."

Not a bad deal at all, really.

"Ouch," said Victor when Swinub collided with his leg. The poor Pokémon wobbled and turned in circles, obvisiously dizzy. Victor bent down and picked up Swinub. He petted him softly, feeling bad that his Pokémon got hurt. "Are you okay? Nevermind, that was a dumb question. Of course you're not okay. And its all my fault." He paused and winced in pain. His leg hurt badly.

"You did good Swinub. You did good." And with that, the Swinub fell asleep in his arms. Placing him on the ground, he took out his Pokeball and opened it. Swinub disappeared in a flash of light. "Rest. You'll need the energy."

He turned to the clerk. "Thank you for your offer. I'll still pay for the items though. It wouldn't seem right, since I basically added to the damage of your store from the battle." He limped over to the counter and looked at the items.

"Well, okay. I'd like a Basic Potion, please. And an Escape Rope and some Awakening." He took out the money needed and held it out for the clerk.

"That doesn't matter," said the clerk, shrugging. "We're due for some remodeling soon anyway. The store's getting a little old and we finally have enough funds to pay for such a project." Not saying anything more, he rummaged for your needed items (he took quite a while), received the required amount of your money, and then packed a brown grocery sack with the new items. With a small wave in your direction as you left the store, he brought out a sweeper and started cleaning up the mess. You had helped save the store, but you felt a slight twinge of guilt in your stomach as you further dwelt on the fact that you had helped damage it.

That feeling of guilt expanded even more when you started rummaging in your new sack of things. First of all, the clerk had returned your money to express his gratitude, and the other thing was a full Pokeball with a note attached to it. What the?...could this be some freak mistake? Perhaps you had accidentally stolen it, had it rolled out of the guy's pocket? No...it had a note attached to it, after all. Your mind really overreacts too dang much.

Kid,

Thanks for your help. I know you made a mess but really, the store gets enough money as is. More damage could've been done by that Phanpy if you hadn't stopped it. Anyway, I mentioned that we're remodeling and we were going to get new shelves and stock of merchandise anyway. Furthermore, this Pokémon was left in our care a week ago after some trainer didn't want it. I think you'd like to raise it since you come off as a kind person.

From,
John (Pokémart Aide)

That was nice and all...but what was your little present? As if on cue, the Pokeball burst open of its own accord and revealed a rather nervous-looking little purple dinosaur thing...yep, you guessed it, you now had a Nidoran in your possession. You could play the good Samaritan and return the money and Pokémon, or you could just accept things and be on your merry little way. With another Pokémon, you now had more training to do. Needless to say that you're wasting daylight just sitting here and thinking.

Victor stood in awe staring at the timid Nidoran. Finally he moved and closed his mouth. He knelt beside the Nidoran. It looked at him with scared eyes, still shaking. He slowly reached toward it and softly stroked it. It's skin was rough, but it seemed to calm down. Then, he looked into Nidoran's eyes and spoke very softly.

"Hello, little guy.", he said in a soft whisper. Nidoran scanned Victor's face and finding him a seemingly nice person, edged closer. Victor smiled and began to pet him again. "You seem nice. That clerk was nice to give you to me like that. I feel bad that he gave me the money back, and he didn't have to give you to me, but I'm going to keep you and soon, you'll be a nice, powerful Nidoking!"

Nidoran seemed to grin and walked closer to Victor. "Nidoran!", he cried happily. Then, the Pokeball that held Swinub began to wiggle and shake. He removed it and in a flash of light, Swinub appeared. He looked blindly in Nidoran's direction and grunted. "Swin? Swin!", he squealed, and quickly waddled toward Nidoran. Nidoran ran behind Victor and hid. Swinub ran between his legs and was nose to nose with the frightened Nidoran. "Swin? Swinub Swin Swin?"

"N-nidaran!", said the Nidoran. The coversation between the two Pokémon quickly established a bond between the two.

Awwww....how cute. Your Pokémon had already formed a bond within a few minutes. Your life was going fairly well so far, and you had everything that you could need for the time being. Two perfect Pokémon, some decent items, a nice day, and the pride that you had done something right. Yes, your life was pretty well easy at the moment. In fact, it would take just one bad event to bring it crashing down rather unpleasantly.

Ah, look at that, I've jinxed you.

Suddenly, the sky darkened as inky black clouds started blocking out the sun. Massing together, the clouds soon gave the atmosphere a greenish look as they expanded from horizon to horizon, eventually blocking out the whole sky. Rotating, the center of the clouds soon opened up to reveal a sort of black vortex to...nowhere. Bright green fireballs started falling out of it, and people started screaming and running around and saying that the world was ending. Obviously this was only happening in the Tohean islands, and it had never occurred before.

Many people were rushing off the streets and to safety, but some of the braver trainers and researchers were rushing off to check out this phenomenon for themselves. A fireball had landed in a nearby park, so why not check it out? Of course, if you're afraid, then we'll understand...sort of. Still, you could be passing up a pretty weird adventure if you refused. Isn't that what Pokémon trainers lived for?
