As soon as the smoke appeared my heart sunk, mostly because of the fact that I was not able to see which way the battle was going. Though when Tempest made his way out of the dense smoke help raised my confidence but I still felt a little uneasy knowing Growlithe was in there still. Judging merely by the sounds I had heard once Tempest fired his bubble attack that it was a success. Growlithe’s current situation was a little bit harder to interpret, but by the roar I heard he appeared to have followed my orders precisely. Even though Growlithe prevented the Wingulls from blowing away the smokescreen like last time it was getting a little easier to see through. Now Tempest had the one Wingull occupied and Growlithe the other.

Since the Wingulls were divided I determined that the battle should be easier. With Growlithe I thought it was best to continue to give it the same commands as last time, Tempest was going to be the tricky one. His bubble seemed to not do much damage if not any to the Wingulls but seeing as his attack range was limited bubble would have to do for now. The sea that my Horsea was heading towards could prove useful to some extent but the only thing I could think at the moment it could do was provide a easier battlefield for Tempest to be on.

“Okay Growlithe, use Roar and then Bite on the Wingull you have been fighting.” I strained my eyes to get a good look at him through the smoke, but still I could only get an outline of the Growlithe.

Then I turned my head to take a look at Tempest and the other Wingull once I caught his eye I began to relay my commands. “Hurry up and get to the sea, and once there attack the Wingull with as many of bubbles as you can muster.” After checking if that was all Tempest continued on its way.

Since this battle was pretty well split up for the time being, let's focus on each dueling pair in succession. The first Wingull was about to Tackle Growlithe, as it was fluttering down to do so. However, Growlithe opened his mouth and let out an ear-splitting, growling roar; the Wingull that he was facing dropped to the ground and cowered in fear, trying to block out the noise with its wings.

Satisfied with this (and a little hoarse), Growlithe rushed in towards the Wingull that he was battling. Opening his mouth, he bit down on the gull's wing, savaging it and drawing blood. When he felt this sufficient, he trotted back to you, his eyes gleaming. NO Wingull was going to torture him in heinous ways again.

Meanwhile, Tempest had semi-safely made it to the ocean, bobbing in the wave. Wingull was close behind him and used a Tackle. That caused some damage, but it also knocked him deeper into the water. Coming through the air, Tempest hadn't heard the whistling of the bird's wings until it was too late. Now, he was about to avenge himself on the troublesome squawk.

Turning around and coming face-to-face with the bird, the little Horsea let off a forceful stream of bubbles. The Bubble attack repelled the Wingull for a few feet before it regained its senses and rushed in again to attack. Still, your Horsea was producing bubbles to aggravate it. Using its brain for a change, the Wingull was sharp enough to start popping the Bubbles with his beak, eventually clearing enough room to use an aerial Headbutt on the poor Horsea.

Ow. This could definitely be going a lot smoother, don't you think? At least the Growlithe was holding out better.

Growlithe appeared to be getting some work done, but Tempest on the other hand seemed to be having some difficulty holding his own. That dumb bird was doing quite a number on Tempest and to make matters worse he even found a counter to Tempest bubble attack, while Growlithe was showing no seemed to be showing no mercy when he attacked. This battle seemed to be a lopsided. Growlithe currently winning one side of it and Tempest having quite a bit of difficulty on the other.

As I watched Tempest side of the battle I thought to myself, This whole thing may have gone smoother if I had just told him to use smokescreen seeing as Wingull could not stop what it couldn’t see. “Don’t you think so too?” I said to Growlithe as he trotted up to me not realizing that it would have no idea what I was talking about. As I knelled down to pet it I realized that he smelled of blood. “You must’ve done quite a number on that guy.” I said to him realizing that it had probably gotten its revenge on the Wingull.

Seeing as Tempest may be in a pickle I decided I should order it first before it came to anymore unwanted harm. “You okay out there buddy.” He answered with a grin and a nod of his head. “Okay then, I want you to use Smokescreen and then fire some more bubbles. Simple enough, right?” He nodded and eagerly went to work.

Now It was Growlithes turn, he seemed to be doing excellent and made me wonder how he had managed to be defeated in the first place. Seeing as it made soon become hoarse if it had used Roar again I decided I better wait a little longer before telling him to use it again. “You’ve been doing such a good job so far keep it up,” I praised as I began to stroke his fur. “This time use Headbutt then bite, and anything else you can think of that could help.”

Eagerly I waited for the results of the next round.

And so the next round did in fact begin. Growlithe was busy working a number on one Wingull, whereas Tempest on the other. Tempest did as instructed and threw up a veil of smoke, commonly referred to be Trainers of Pokémon that knew the move, Smokescreen. With the veil now up again, Tempest started firing a barrage of bubbles at its airborne foe. Each bubble seemed to glance off the downy coating of the Wingull, and only seemed to aggravate it further. Tempest ducked under the waves to evade an incoming peck attack, before coming up behind the Wingull and firing yet more bubbles.

The Growlithe on the other hand was faring better, which naturally is odd considering the odd type match up that it was up against. The Wingull that the canine Pokémon was fighting was flying lopsided, most likely from the injured wing that Growlithe had managed to cause. Growlithe took the advantage and went to work, taking down the target first with a leaping Headbut. The bird faltered and fell, which left it open for Growlithe to pounce.

Alas, when Growlithe did pounce, the Wingull fired from its mouth a stream of bubbles, colliding directly with Growlithe’s face and chest. The Fire dog recoiled, grinding to a halt on the ground on its back. It jumped up again, wanting to continue fighting, but the point-blank bubbles seemed to be taking their toll. All in all though, the battle was continuing more or less pretty consistently.

However, you may want to consider helping out Tempest, as bubbles will only get you so far.

Nothing much has appeared to have change in this ongoing battle. Growlithe still manged to land a few good hits on its Wingull and Tempest managed to land a few good hits on Wingull. The only thing that had appeared to have changed was the fact that one of the Wingulls finally decided to use a super effective attack… which Tempest had been relying on, extreme case of irony if you ask me. But you probably wouldn’t want to ask me for reasons unknown.

I closed my eyes in order to better think about what moves I should pick next. Since things were going pretty much the same as last time except for a few minor changes so supposedly I should just make a few minor changes as well. First of which is to prevent Growlithe’s Wingull from using another bubble attack and secondly, helping Tempest dodge any other attacks that his Wingull could pull off.

“How about this.” I said looking down at Growlithe who had just taken one bubble too many, “you continue to use Headbutt and Bite but if this time if that bird brain over there tries to use bubble to hurt you again use Roar if you can’t muster up another one then try to keep the Wingulls mouth closed the best way you can.”

I adjusted my glasses and then began to walk towards the location where Tempest and the other Wingull were battling. Since the smokescreen hadn’t been blown away yet I found it hard to interpret what was going on in there. So just to be on the safe side I decided to play defensive. “Tempest try this, use Bubble for a few seconds then dive underneath water and when you feel that it is safe come back up and do it again and if the Smokescreen starts to wear off make another one.”

Once again I found myself with the feeling of anticipation of what lied ahead.

The battle was like the ocean, flowing one way before reversing the next. However, there was a certain thing about this particular scenario that made it seem like the battle was finally drawing to a close, and you could potentially go help that Healer. Your commands were simple and blunt, and they seemed to be a nice change of pace (not that you weren’t already keeping things nice and neat with a range of stratagems.

Growlithe moved first, and the Wingull saw him coming. It opened its mouth in an attempt to fire more bubbles, but Growlithe had leapt up and clamped the beak shut by biting down on it. Not quite what you asked for, but effective nonetheless. The pair struggled and eventually the canine came out on top, literally, as he had the bird pinned under his front paws. Alas, before Growlithe could deal the finishing blow, the other Wingull swooped in and rescued its pal, momentarily disengaging from Tempest, knocking Growlithe out of the way with a flutter of its wings.

Tempest on the other hand wondered where his opponent had gone, but threw up another veil of Smokescreen just to be safe. The Wingull that Growlithe had attacked was slowly wandering off, beaten poorly and wanting to escape, unfortunately, it was wondering straight towards you! What will you do? Catch it? Kick it? You better decide fast before it attempts to fly away. Tempest took the time to recover, but watched as best as it could from the ocean.

Once again the Growlithe, who had proven himself quite a dignified and experienced, managed to gain the upper hand despite his obvious disadvantage in the matter. He not only managed to severely weaken the Wingull, but he also prevented any major damage to himself despite being weak to most of Wingulls attack. He might've finished the job too if the other Wingull didn't swoop in and save its pal. A very noble act from a bird who takes pleasure in causing others pain and disturbing the peace, I said to myself as I watched it happened. Nonetheless it only bought its friend some additional time to make a getaway bearing in mind that the Growlithe could finish it off next round if it pleased. Still Horsea being without a opponent for this round was creative to bring up a smokescreen. Either way you look at it they were doing well.

Seeing the wounded Wingull awkwardly fly towards me I quickly move out of its path and continue to think of something to do this round. The Wingull was pretty weak and another attack from Growlithe would surely cause it to faint. Once this annoyance was out of the way its partner would be effortless to take out.

I turned my head and focused my attention onto the Growlithe which was starting to grow on me like a blood thirsty leech. “Okay, you’ve done a great job with this Wingull so far; see if you can finish it off with Bite before it gets away.”

“And you, “ I yelled to Tempest who had managed not to get much action the last round, “Use agility to guide the other Wingull to shore and occasionally fire some bubbles at it in order to keep it from catching up .” Quite pleased with my orders I headed towards the healer which I had forgotten about until now.

Still growling from his hatred of the Wingull, Growlithe trotted forward and, lunging towards the weaker of the two Wingull, he bit down on the thing's wing and made it faint on the spot. The Wingull had been fluttering low enough out of exhaustion to make this possible, but the attack's blow still glanced off slightly. Either way, you had knocked one of the birds out and could now proceed to deal with the other one. Not only that, but now it was a two-against-one battle in your favor.

Meanwhile, Tempest had started speeding along in the water towards the shore. Not wanting to be outdone, the remaining Wingull also used Agility. At first, both water types were speeding alongside each other in a kind of race...until Tempest started firing some bubbles. The Bubble attacks did little damage, but they were forceful enough to keep Wingull from catching up.

Upon reaching shore, the Wingull was tired of trying to race and instead shot a Water Gun at Tempest. This didn't cause a lot of damage, but it was enough to knock the Horsea out of the water and onto the sandy beach. Chirping angrily, Wingull then hit your Pokémon with a forceful Tackle attack as he tried to recover from the last hit. All in all, that round could've gone a little smoother.

You had an advantage with two Pokémon, but how long would it last? Everything was almost even in terms of everything but health, and Growlithe was ahead in that department. What will happen next? Stay tuned!

Victory, its presence is so close that I can almost taste it on the tip of my tongue. If Growlithe and Tempest can hold on for another round or so it is almost guaranteed. They had been doing such a good job so far there is no doubt in my mind that they ‘re going to quit on me now.

With the knock-out of one of the Wingulls the battle was now in the palm of my
hand. Within another round or so victory would be ours. Two against one would not be fair in most cases, but since neither Tempest nor Growlithe would be able to take on the Wingull solo, in this case I would have to make an exception.

There are many different angles I could take to win this battle. One is by using brute force and attack the Wingull head on and overpowering it into submission, but that would be suicidal to risk both of them in head on battle. I could also play defensively and evade its attacks until the Wingull to wear itself out, but that also has its disadvantages seeing as it would be time consuming and most likely wear out my Pokémon instead. No, no. I would need something that will be fast and efficient and at the same time keeping both Pokémon form harming themselves.

“ I've Got it”, I uttered with a sudden snap of my fingers.
I turned to face the both of them with great gratitude, “You’ve two have come further than I would have thought, in the begging the odds were against us but now the tables have changed and we are just one step away from victory.”
Tempest was very satisfied with this remark and let out a squeal of joy.

“Now I am counting on the two of you to defeat this Wingull.” I directed my attention to Tempest who out of the two of them ironically seemed to have suffered the most damage.

“Now all you have to do is set up another Smokescreen and fire a few Bubbles from a distance, while you-“ I said turning to face Growlithe, “Stun the Wingull with another Roar in order for Tempest bubbles to take full effect, then when the Tempest is done locate the Wingull and use Bite.”

“Any questions?”

The Wingull circled overhead, waiting to attack you or your Pokémon. As you were issuing commands, it took this opportunity to strike! The white bird dove at your Growlithe and fired a spray of water from it’s mouth. The Water Gun attack had been very successful. That was very bad for your fire-powered dog.

Tempest started pumping smoke into the air, trying to make it harder for the bird to see. This of course didn’t do much good. Wingull were well known for their excellent vision. But your Growlithe took this opportunity to Roar. The sound was loud and ferocious.

You watched the Wingull become shocked, and it started to wing it’s way back to the sea. Tempest fired off several Bubbles that struck the fleeing bird in it’s backside. The Wingull dropped from the sky, spiraling back to the ground. Growlithe was waiting for it with a wicked grin.

The dog ran and leapt into the air. He snatched the bird out of it’s fall and hit the ground, giving his head a quick shake. The bird Pokémon dropped from Growlithe’s maw with a thud. It wasn’t knocked out, but a wing was definitely broken. This bird wouldn’t be getting away.

(OOC: Sorry for the shortness, was in a hurry)

This was great. Not only were we one step away from winning but as if to add icing to a cake the darn bird was grounded as well. One more hit from either Growlithe or Tempest and the Wingull would be done for. Though Growlithe did get a little shook up by the water gun, I bet it wasn’t anything the little guy couldn’t handle.

I better end this quick, I said silently. As long as the bird stayed on the ground a well executed attack could take it out. It seems only fair to let Growlithe finish the poor thing off, besides it was more his fight than ours.

“Come here Tempest”, he reluctantly came. “I think I’ll let Growlithe take it from here, if you don’t mind” he moaned but nodded his head in agreement. “Don’t worry you’ll get your turn”, I coaxed while picking him up given him a much needed rest within my arms.

“Growlithe, finish him off with a bite[ and if it is still kicking afterwards try a headbutt."

[[OOC: Looks like you're at the mercy of me now. Mwahaahaahaa!!!]]

The battle is almost done and you can't wait for it to end. After all its been going on for a long time now and your polemon have to be getting tired. That and you don't know whether you should keep the Growlithe or not. After all it wasn't yours and its trainer has even come by yet to collect the lost Pokémon from you.

Anyways, Growlithe ran up to try and use Bite on the tired and dupleted little bird. Somehow the Wingull was still able to dodge the attack. And was also able to spray a Water Gun at the little dog like Pokémon. This left the Growlithe confused on how the Wingull was able to dodge and attack.

Anyways, so how it was possible and it happened. So now the Growlithe ran up with a Headbutt and it landed a successful hit which fainted the Wingull.

Now that that is taken care of, you just need to decide on whether you should keep the Growlithe or try to find its real owner.

Tempest gains 78 :exp !
Tempest grew to level 6!
Growlithe gains 78 :exp !
Growlithe grew to level 6!

(Changing POV because I can, and 1st gets annoying.)

“You did a swell job Growlithe”, Xavier congratulated as he kneeled down and stroked the pup’s fur from head to tail. “You had a rocky start at first, but in the end you showed those two who’s boss”, he continued.

His agitated Horsea who was listening in on the conversation felt impatient with every word uttered by its trainer. He felt that he did just as much, if not more, than that dog. Sensing that Tempest was discontent Xavier attempted to cheer it up by tickling its stomach.

“Don’t think that I forgot how great you were out there today”, Xavier said half laughing himself with each syllable. “You should have seen yourself racing against that Wingull, and we sure couldn’t have done it without your smokescreens.”

“Horsea”, the little guy squealed delightedly.

“Now I guess I better get you both to the Pokécenter before anything else happen”. Xavier grabs Tempest’s pokeball from his belt and pressed the center which absorbed his Horsea in a ray of red light. He reached for his belt again in attempt to do the same with Growlithe. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks, he had never caught Growlithe in the first place.

Well this is awkward, he thought to himself.

There were two choices that Xavier had to consider. Either he could keep the pup or leave it be. He recalled the medic referring to Growlithe as a stray, so there would be no harm in catching it. Would there? But in the end it was up to Growlithe to chose whether it wanted to come with him or not. It couldn’t hurt to ask.

“So how would you feel about coming along with me and Tempest,” Xavier began still petting the pup as he spoke. “We could really use you on our team”, he continued, “It won’t be so bad you’ll get three square meals a day, four if you want. What do you say, do you want to come”?

The battle had gone well, and you'd managed not only to take out one of the Wingulls, but two. It almost made you stop and think about what had given your possibly Growlithe such trouble against the one. Granted, the Healer had managed to beat the one he'd been fighting with his Magby, with the same type disadvantage. Perhaps the other Wingull had been a bit of a better fighter, and knew how to exploit the type advantages? Either way, all the Wingulls that had been causing trouble were down for the count, mostly thanks to you.

Your one-and-a-half Pokémon glowed under the praise, but both of them seemed to notice that you paused when returning that Growlithe, as if you weren't sure about it. A few seconds later, they realized it at as well, that you couldn't return the Growlithe, as technically, he wasn't yours to return. That sent the poor little puppy for a loop, as he'd already pretty much assumed that he was a part of your team, as he and Tempest were Fire and Water, and thus would make a great team.

As you asked the Growlithe, it barked happily once, jumping back out of petting range, its head and paws close to the ground while its rear was still elevated, its tail wagging furiously. It hopped back and forth a few times, continuing its barking, as if wondering what was taking you so long. It seemed that the little guy was definitely eager to be a part of your team.

The Healer, who had been caring for his own Pokémon, wandered over to you, a smile on his face, despite the loss he'd taken. "That was a magnificent battle, young man. If you keep that up, I'd be willing to bet that one day you might even be able to take the Pokémon League Challenge." He glanced down at the Growlithe, who still anxiously awaited your move. "And that's a very special Growlithe, I'd say. Able to take on a Wingull that was stronger than himself? I'd keep him around, if I were you."

So now the choice was yours. That Growlithe really wants to go with you. Will you take it, adding a second onto your team, or crush its hopes and dreams, leaving it to fend for itself?

After seeing the puppy’s reaction to his question it became clear to Xavier that it must want to come with him. There was no doubt in his mind that the Growlithe wouldn’t make a grand addition to his team. And as an added bonus Tempest and him did seem to get along pretty well.

“Well I guess I’ll take that as a yes”, Xavier said gleefully happy that the Growlithe was about to be a new addition to his team.

Just as he was about to grab a ball to capture it, Xavier hear foot steps coming from behind him. He turned to be face to face with the healer he had met earlier praising him about the battle. Listening to the healer talk about how special the Growlithe actually was only made Xavier more anxious to capture it.

“I’ll take your word for it”, Xavier replied.

He reached for his belt, grabbed a pokeball, and threw it at Growlithe. Hoping that it would capture it.
