Phanpy listened to your words closely. With her ears up and wide she looked from you, to Rattata, and back at you. Keeping her eyes peeled on what the rat Pokémon was up too. Infact, it wasn't up too much. Just keeping an eye on its surroundings, thinking of what to do to stop your Phanpy from performing an unstoppable attack. Phanpy took your commands in, and turned around to face her opponent. With a quick hop into the air she curled up, landed and began to speed off towards her opponent. Rattata still didn't know what to do, and began running away. Unluckily for her she was quickly caught up to, and bashed out of the way by Phanpy's attack. The rat landed with a thud, and struggled to get to her little feet. Phanpy kept on going and quickly did a jump whilst turning in the air. All of a sudden she was back on the ground, slower instead of faster but still going. Rattata was now ready, waiting for your Phanpy to get closer. As it did, Rattata made a quick jump, and your Phanpy crashed into a nearby tree. Stopping her attack completely. She got to her feet as quickly as she could, she didnt seem too hurt, but it had taken quite abit out of her. She nearly had this attack down. She could now turn, but it slowed her down a little. Work on the speed, I'm sure she'll get it fairly soon. Lv. 5 12/35 73%(attack -1) Vs. Lv.4 24/33 67%(speed +3) (Rollout 72%) |

Nervous, Ryan watched closely, trying to see where Phanpy could possibly go wrong in her move. Seeing her jump up in the air and turn, which caused her to slow down, he shook his head, trying to think of something. His thoughts were scrambled when the Rattata did a jump to avoid the attack the second time around. Phanpy smacked into a tree, which did a bit of damage to her, making Ryan wince a bit. More importantly, it stopped her attack, and so he had to think again about why it didn't work quite right. Of course the slowing down probably stopped her from being hurt as much as she could have been by the tree. "Alright that was better Phanpy, but we still need to work on your speed so you can continue the attack and get more power. So let's try this one more time, and make sure you listen to everything that I say! Instead of throwing yourself straight up in the air, try to go for a dive type thing to increase your speed. Dive into a Defense Curl, and roll into the Rollout move. When you throw yourself back up into the air again, I want you to KICK up into the air so you get higher. That way, when you come back down you'll end up with more velocity. Also, don't try to turn just like that, it's that sudden movement that slows you down. Instead, I want you to start turning while you're on the ground after you hit Rattata, and then jump for the speed while finishing the turn. All of that together should help us with Rollout!" Biting his lip yet again, Ryan thought for a moment, and then nodded. This was how he thought that the Pokémon performed it before in his past time as a trainer back home. Sighing, he waited patiently, hoping that this time Phanpy would perform it perfectly and get it nailed 100%. He looked at Rattata, seeing that it didn't have much left before she would faint, and that would bring Phanpy up to Level 5. Crossing his fingers, Ryan hoped that things would continue to go well for him. |

Rattata was determinded to try and bring down Phanpy with it. Despite the fact that the purple rat was near defeat, it was still willing to battle. You had to commend your opponent for its effort however misguided it might be. Phanpy itself was rather dazed after she had hit the tree and it took several moments for her to register exactly what you were saying. Still though, it LOOKED like she was listening, but you could never really tell for sure. Actually as soon as she begins her attack against Rattata you would be able to tell. With vivaciousness Phanpy did exactly as you said, jumped into the air kicking as she went and then dove into a defense curl once again raising her already formidable defensive capabilities. Using the momentum from the dive, Phanpy began to move around in that form, that attack being rollout of course. The terrain of the ground allowed her to build up speed. Using natural speed, Rattata avoided the first of Phanpy's attacks to hit her, but the elephant Pokémon began to speedily encircle Rattata. Every spin brought her closer to the now-paranoid Rattata as Phanpy began to close the space between her and her opponent. Inevitably Rollout struck home and sent the Rattata into oblivion. Well that was the end of the battle. Your Phanpy has grown to level 5 and has learned the move Rollout. |

With a sigh of relief, Ryan knelt down and called Phanpy to him, and she happily ran over. Petting her on the head, he congratulated her on a victory for her first battle and pulled out a treat. Giving it to her, he told her how happy he was that she followed his directions clearly even though she didn't necessarily have to. After all, this Pokémon was given to him as a gift, and as such, Ryan was afraid that she would have been angry with him. However, finding the time to get her out and about right away must have made her think that he was a very kind trainer, because she did listen to him. Rollout was definitely going to be a useful move, and Ryan just hoped that she would be able to battle well with it. Petting her trunk, he smiled and told her that it wouldn't be long before they were in a battle against another trainer. At least, that's if things went his way, which they did usually it seemed, except for his very first battle. But then again, that wasn't really his fault, as the other trainer was a criminal and didn't hesitate on putting Slipp on his death bed. Shaking that memory off, Ryan returned Phanpy back to her Pokeball and walked back to the Pokémon Center, wanting to get her healed right away. Then he'd go looking around for another trainer battle, hopefully against someone who would have an electric type Pokémon to battle against. But then again, maybe he should also focus on getting his other Pokémon trained too, since they all deserved it. Not wanting to be in danger while in the city of crime, Ryan decided that he should probably have one of his Pokémon out for protection. You never knew what could happen in Hurst City, even if you were just going right back to the Pokémon Center. Deciding that this was indeed the best of decisions, Ryan let Growlithe out of his Pokeball and knelt down to pat him on the head. He told him to look out for any suspicious looking people, and if anyone tried doing anything to Ryan, not to hesitate to attack. As a matter of fact, he'd love it if the little dog tried chewing the other person's leg right off. Smiling, he headed towards the Pokémon Center with Growlithe on the lookout for any dangers his master could possibly be in. |

So I see your finally taking that trip to the Pokémon Center. A good choice, expecially after you've now taken out Jason's gang and that pesky Rattata in the past hour or so. All of your Pokémon have taken damage by this point, so any sort of protection for you is important in Hurst. You let your newest Pokémon, Growlithe, out to be your protection. He barked at your request and stood on guard. It wasn't hard to locate the Center, with it's red roof and all. Growlithe kept watch, checking the side streets for anyone that may want an easy target. There were two times Growlithe let out a low growl at mysterious shadows, but they quickly dispersed at the sight of your guard dog. So, you had no problems making it out to the main street where the Pokémon Center was located. Nurse Joy was there, and wasn't very busy. Everyone was crowded around the television. Apparently, Pokémon were disappearing and becoming scarce. Only the common of the common were left. Rare ones are almost non-existant. There was even a clip of a trainer battling a Rattata, and the wild Pokémon disappeared right in front of the camera. Strange, isn't it? Well, there is nothing to worry about right now, so she took your Pokémon and returned them about the time the program ended. So, what will you do now? Be a hero again and save the Pokémon, or go on about your businesss? Regardless, there are plenty of trainers here, and one of them might be willing to have a battle with you. That girl over there has a Pikachu on her shoulder. Maybe she will want to have a battle. It's still your choice. Have fun. |

Breathing a sigh of relief when he got there, Ryan walked into the Pokémon Center and handed his friends over to get healed. Looking around, he noticed that there were a lot of trainers and that something was on the TV that appeared interesting. Watching it, he bit his lip, wondering why all of these Pokémon were disappearing, and how they could just like that. Shaking his head, he looked out of the window, wondering if maybe these Pokémon were being taken by some group like Team Rocket. Of course he hadn't heard anything of Team Rocket being in Tohea, but one couldn't rule out everything, right? When he got his Pokémon back, he took another glance around the room, deciding that he really wanted a battle. He saw that there was a girl with a Pikachu on her shoulder, and Ryan thought about that. Phanpy would probably do well against it, but he didn't want to end up finding that it was too strong for her. Of course he couldn't turn everything down just because he was afraid of that consequence. Plus, he was sure that most trainers wouldn't use high leveled Pokémon on ones that were a lot weaker. Ryan walked up to her and held out his hand. "Hello, my name's Ryan. This stuff they're talking about on the news is kind of scary, huh? I wonder what's going on. But while we're here, I was wondering if you might want to battle? I have four Pokémon on me that I can use for a battle, but I only use one at a time if I can help it." He smiled, hoping that she'd accept. |

The girl turned around to reveal a tattered old frock with bits of cloth and silk hanging off behind her. Her hair was dirty blonde and was out of control in places. It had been clumsily been tied into a ponytail but it barely made any difference to the wild jungle that was her hair. Through a rip in her dress you could see that her knees were filthy and that the dress itself was not to clean. She had brown eyes that also looked like they were dirty. The Pikachu on her shoulder on the other hand was a totally different story. It had smooth fur and its tail was equally spaced apart when it zigzagged. Its ears poked out of its head in two identical diagonals. If you were an alien, you'd almost think the Pikachu was the master. The girl looked at you, your clothes were totally...together! Wow you must be rich she thought. Maybe if she won she'd receive a decent amount of money. She looked you in the eyes and nodded. She looked at her Pikachu and nodded. It looked like she would be using her Pikachu first. She motioned you outside of the Pokécenter. Probably as to not cause any damage. She wasn't very talkative. After you faced opposite her in the wide open streets, in fact you were in the middle of a seldom used road. "How about best two out of three?" She finally asked, waiting for your reply. Now you needed to choose two Pokémon and in the event of you loosing a battle, a third to help you claim victory again. You looked down at her Pikachu, trying to figure her out, what would be good against it, what was weak against it? Did it have any hidden strengths? It was only when you were looking at the electric mouse that you noticed that she had no shoes on. You shook your head, in Hurst, with broken glass and litter everywhere, was that really the best idea? Lvl.6 37/37 100%Edited by Shockwave, Jan 4 2009, 09:56 AM.

At first, Ryan was about to withdraw from the girl, seeing her grungy looking clothes and messy hair. But the Pikachu caught his eyes, and when he looked at her, he saw that she was well kept, unlike her owner. It almost made him wonder which one of them was really the master, although that was an absurd question. Still, one couldn't help but wonder with a girl like that. Either way, he did want a battle, and she did seem to be offering a pretty good one for him. Nodding, Ryan agreed with the winner being best two out of three, although he was hoping he'd win all three battles. Looking down at Pikachu, he noticed that the girl wasn't wearing any shoes at all, and he shook his head. That was definitely not good when you were in a city like Hurst, which was littered with glass and who knew what else. Chewing his lip, he decided that at the end of the battle, he'd give her his pair of shoes, and he'd just wear his boots for now. Later on, he could buy another pair of sneakers when he had the chance, but this poor girl needed something at the very least. "Alright, I think I'm going to start out with Phanpy. Come on out girl! Let's try this one on for size, shall we? Start out with an Agility, followed by a Defense Curl! Hopefully you'll then be quick enough to try to dodge or retaliate against Pikachu. But if not, then the Defense Curl should help you out." Smiling, he nodded at Phanpy who beamed back at him. He knew that she could do it. |

Besides the obvious grime, there was something else about this girl that just wasn't right. It's not natural to be that grungy with a Pokémon so perfect and clean. There may be more than meets the eye to this battle. However, her one and only true giveaway was her voice. It was practically monotone, especially when she said, "Pikachu, Growl then Tackle." There was no emotion in her speech, just empty words. Maybe this battle will snap her out of this mindset. Phanpy meditated for a moment, concentrating energy on her speed. Pikachu Growled, but your Phanpy wasn't breaking concentration on her account. Once both were done, the mouse moved in to Tackle your elephant. Phanpy quickly rolled into a ball and held tightly. Pikachu was about to hit, when Phanpy swiveled out of the way. Pikachu ended up getting a face full of dirt. So much for that nice clean coat. The Pikachu looked frustrated, but the girl showed no emotion as she gave out her next commands, "Tail Whip, then Thundershock" Your response? When the girl spoke, her monotone voice made shivers trail down Ryan's back, and it took him back to his home town. In school, he had one of the worst teachers for Physics, as he had a monotone just like this girl had. The class was hard enough without having such a boring teacher, but with that, it was icing on the cake. He couldn't remember how many times he got yelled at for failing tests, and in all he ended up failing the class. Of course he knew that he was smart, and so he figured that it must be the teacher's fault and never bothered trying that class again. Hearing her orders, he sneered at her attempts to put Phanpy down by making her attack lower. It was bad enough that Phanpy was a level lower than Pikachu, but to also decrease her attack? Sighing, Ryan then couldn't help but giggle a bit when he saw Pikachu ruin her perfect coat by smacking into the ground. Phanpy may have increased her speed, but Ryan knew that it had to be luck that got her out of the way of that attack. Before he could give out orders of attack, she called hers out, and he smiled hearing what they were. "Okay Phanpy, that round went pretty well in our favor, except for getting our attack lowered. Now I want you to roll yourself up into another Defense Curl for three reasons. When Pikachu uses Tail Whip, it'll bring down your Defense, but with that Defense Curl, you'll be right back up on it. Another reason for this is that Thundershock won't affect you anyways, but this way it'll definitely just bounce right off of your hide! The final reason is that Defense Curl before your next attack increases the attack's power! Use a Rollout, and make sure you do it just like we practiced so that your speed keeps increasing, making it more powerful every time you hit Pikachu!" Ryan felt a little bad, being so merciless against the girl, but it was a battle and he did intend to win it. Besides, he had a feeling that this girl wasn't really poor, simply because of the good condition her Pikachu was in. Maybe she just wanted to appear poor so that nobody would mug her in this huge city, which was actually a smart idea. As a matter of fact, Ryan actually began to think that this is what it really was, and it made him want to win the battle even more. If she was rich, then he might be able to get a handsome reward for beating her, although he was sure that if he started doing really well, she'd break out of it. Once things looked good for him and bad for her, if they did like that as he hoped, then she would probably start showing more enthusiasm in her calls. Perhaps she was a really good trainer who didn't think Ryan stood much of a chance, and if that was the case, he planned on giving her a run for her money. |

Pikachu ran up to the small elephant as she began to retreat into a tight ball. Pikachu slapped his tail lightly against Phanpy whom was getting tighter and tighter into this ball. Pikachu ran off to try and get some distance between herself and the Elephant Pokémon. Phanpy finished curling up into a ball, the effects canceled out by the Mouse's attack. Pikachu's cheeks began to change from the usual red to a luminous yellow. They began glowing and the occasional spark would fly out of them. Then suddenly a small amount of electricity flowed out of both cheeks, quickly merged and hit Phanpy. Hit, but did no damage might I add. The electricity merely bounced off and hit the floor, leaving a burning hole in the road. There was the possibility that you could angle the block to reflect the attack back at the Mouse, it wouldn't do much damage being its own type but damage was damage. Pikachu seemed to be almost quite flustered at her attack not being able to do the required and intended command. The girl still showed no emotion, she looked forward, unblinking, and actually scaring you slightly. Was that natural? Phanpy began then to run around in a small circle, and then Phanpy curled up into a ball while still running and the speed carried on while Phanpy was rolling towards the Pikachu. Slowly gaining speed. The attack hit her and even flung her into the air and fell with a thump for extra damage. Phanpy returned to you but still rolling on the spot in order to keep up the speed. Frowning, Ryan stared at the girl, wondering how she could be so... cold like that, having no emotion. He shook his head, trying to figure it out, although he was happy that things went the way they did this round. Maybe he'd have to think of a way to be able to throw Thundershocks back at Pikachu, in case she tried doing that again. Of course he wanted Phanpy to stay in the Rollout attack so that she would gain more power with it every time she hit. It would probably only take two more hits to knock Pikachu out, looking at her health and such. Actually, it would definitely wipe Pikachu out, Ryan would just have to make sure that the Rollout actually hit both times. "Alright Phanpy, you're doing great so far! I'm really glad that I taught you this move, because it's definitely the attack that's going to make all our battles good. Keep up the Rollout, and strike Pikachu with it again, but be ready for her to try to dodge you. She could also try to use an attack herself on you, although if she uses any Physical attacks, then she'll just end up getting herself hurt because of your Rollout. If she tries using Thundershock again, try to aim your spin at an angle where the Thundershock will bounce off and hit Pikachu. But no matter what you do, try to hit Pikachu twice with Rollout, and if you can do that, then she should be done for." Ryan smiled, knowing that Phanpy could do this just as she did it before against that Rattata. Plus, he was certain that Phanpy would be able to send any Thundershocks back at Pikachu, which would help. If Pikachu was hit with one of her own Thundershocks, it would probably stun her enough so that Phanpy could get in a good hit with her Rollout. But he wanted to know why the girl was behaving the way she was and rolled it over his mind some more. Finally he decided that either he was right the first time or else she was a girl who lost both of her parents and saw it happen. That would definitely be a good reason as to why she was acting the way she was, although Ryan seriously hoped that she was rich and pretending to be poor. He could really use some money... |

This girl certainly was odd, what was even more strange that what could have almost had been eagerness, was total emotionless. She merely stood there watching the battle. She saw the Phanpy hit her Pikachu and flung up into the air. She saw the elephant return to you and opened her mouth to once again speak in her monotone voice. "Pikachu, use another Thundershock, and then use your Bide!" An exclamation mark? Was that really monotone then? Was there perhaps a spot of enthusiasm from this girl now? Probably not but it would be best to be on guard. Bide was a powerful move if used in the correct fashion and now you only had a limited amount of time in order to dispose of the mouse. Once again Pikachu's cheeks glowed and sent forth the same electric jolt towards Phanpy who once again deflected it without any effort at all. The angle was slightly better this time, it went slightly more vertical than you hoped but gravity took its toll on all things, even small currents of electricity, and came back down to hit and slightly stun Pikachu. Phanpy saw past his constant moving attack that the Pikachu had momentarily stopped all movement and saw her chance. She went forwards with more speed than last time and knocked into Pikachu who hadn't yet began her Bide attack. That was certainly luck for you but you had to hope to hit again or face consequences. Once again Phanpy returned to you and continued rolling whilst Pikachu tensed up her muscles and began her attack. Was it you, or did the girl wince slightly at her Pikachu being hit by her own attack? ...who knew? Phanpy began to charge up another attack and rolled forwards even faster than the previous two attacks. With Pikachu storing energy, the ability of moving was lost. The attack had no possibility of missing, it hit it's mark, the small mouse was knocked back with such force that even Phanpy was knocked back slightly, but she kept rolling. Pikachu fell to the floor and couldn't get up, all strength from her body had left her. The girl stared at her Pikachu, but not her usual vacant stare, it was a stare of shock and horror. She held the a Pokeball up and returned the small mouse to it's home. She then took another ball from a small leather pouch attached to her waist. She tossed the Pokeball into the air and released a small sprout like Pokémon. Now what Pokémon would go against this Pokémon? Noticing the girl's almost flinch when Pikachu was hit by her own attack, Ryan wondered if he was right about this being an act. He'd have to see what happened when Pikachu was taken down by his little elephant, which happened soon after. When Pikachu collapsed with no energy to continue on, he saw the girl's face, and he was glad to see that she had an emotion. That had to mean that she really did know what was going on and that she wasn't as poor and all like she made herself out to be. Perhaps things would go out very well for him after all, especially since Phanpy hadn't even been damaged during that battle. Which meant that he could use her again later if he had to, and she grew a level and learned another move! Seeing the Bellsprout, Ryan grinned, feeling that he had this one in the bag as well, so long as everything turned out right. He returned Phanpy, telling her how she did a really good job and that she deserved a nice long rest now before she battled again. Grabbing another Pokeball, he looked at it with a smile before turning his eyes toward the girl, letting her see his smirk. That would hopefully completely disarm her and prove further that she wasn't all that she was trying to pretend to be. With a glance towards Bellsprout, he tossed the Pokeball to the ground, letting Growlithe out, and he looked at the girl again, looking to see what her reaction was. "Okay Growlithe, let's start out simple and work our way up. Use an Agility followed by a simple Tackle attack." He was hoping that by starting simple, he'd give the girl a fake feeling of hope, and then he'd work his way up to slowly shatter her. First, he thought he'd maybe use a Bite next, and then after that an Ember, and to finish it off, he figured a Heat wave would do the sprout in. As evil as that sounded, he wanted to do everything possible to break this girl's facade and see what she was really like. |

Maybe you had imagined it but as she opened the bad you saw only two Pokeballs. The one that Bellsprout was housed in and the one to which Pikachu was returned to. Was she so confident that she believed that she would only need two Pokémon? Or was something much deeper going on here? You couldn't get a clear glimpse though as she quickly tucked away the pouch. Bellsprout stood there, hopping from one foot to another almost in a swagger trying to annoy your fire cainine companion. It didn't work however, Growlithe was better than that and didn't fall for the act and listened intently at your orders and made sure to take them in. He nodded at you indicating that he had heard what you said and was preparing to attack. The girl then spoke again, but it was different to last time, it was more like she was struggling for air and yet she was breathing fine. A rasp. "Bellsprout use a vine whip when Growlithe gets in range." She whispered. Bellsprout nodded, still hopping between feet as if she were standing on hot coals. Well with Growlithe around it was possible. Growlithe jumped forwards in a quick blur and the first attack was done within an instant. He then sped forward faster than his normal speed and then slammed into the small sprout Pokémon whom knocked Growlithe away slightly with one of his legs. Wow things were 'heating' up weren't they? :D The girl was still showing no emotion but many questions remained unanswered.
