Ryan was glad that the Nurse was kind and helpful, and was almost proud that he said he'd do this. Almost. See, he was still able to remember what had happened with this Jason character, and it really scared the piss out of him. Not literally of course, but he wasn't exactly all jumping up and down to find the person who all but killed Slipp.

When Nurse Joy left him in the room, Ryan began wondering how soon it would be before Slipp would be returned to him. He knew that she had said it would take a few hours, but he had hoped that that was the worse case scenario. Though he was sure he could figure out what exactly the worse case scenario actually was.

He pushed all thoughts from his head out when Nurse Joy came back with a man whom she introduced as Inspector Jones. After the inspector had questioned Ryan's capabilities of being able to suck it in and track down Jason, he started doubting himself. Could he really do it? Or would he chicken out? Well Ryan had already went up against him once and he lived. He supposed that that could be because Jason didn't think it would smart to try taking on Ryan. Ryan wasn't exactly the biggest guy around, but he supposed that he could have a threatening aura about him. But that was mostly because of how cold Ryan was after the stupid parents and biological parents thing.

"I think I can do it, sir," Ryan replied respectfully. "Do you want me to go with Slipp, or do you think it would be best if I left him here?" Perhaps they had a different Pokémon that they thought would be best with Ryan. But he was a new trainer, so he seriously doubted that they would trust him with a Pokémon that wasn't his. Maybe the wouldn't have him take a Pokémon at all, as that could be considered endangering the life of a Pokémon. Either way, Ryan just wanted to do this and get it done and over with.

You think you have a threatening aura? I guess its all in how you carry yourself. If you look strong and sound strong, people might back down. Remembering Jason, I don't think he'd back down. You would have to show him who was boss the hard way. Could you do that? Only time will tell.

Inspector Jones looked you in the eye, seeming to read all your thoughts in that one glance. He nodded at you and opened his jacket, removing four Pokeballs from a pocket. "Your Pokémon, Slipp, will be a great help to you, but we're willing to give you another Pokémon to aid you. In these four Pokeballs, there are a Poochyena, a Growlithe, Electrike, and Mankey. Three of them are dog-like because they're so useful in police work." He smiled at you. "So will you take one?"

Wow, the choice of four Pokémon. I'd say that's pretty cool. Plus, with a second Pokémon on your team, you had less to worry about with Jason, unless he had more than just Seel, but that's a worry for another day, hm?

So what'll it be?

:poochyena

:growlithe

:electrike

:mankey

Ryan lifted an eyebrow, mentally smacking himself for thinking that they wouldn't trust him. Obviously Inspector Jones thought that Ryan was capable of the task that was asked of him. Now he had to believe in himself as well, and get himself to start thinking in a way that would make him better able to handle Jason. When it came down to it, Ryan knew that he just had to make sure Jason knew that he wouldn't let him push him around. In the end, he supposed that what it would take is putting his foot down and not letting Jason get to him. And a punch in the face never hurt... unless you did it wrong. Or if you were the person on the receiving end.

Thinking on the options of the Pokémon, Ryan knew that he should choose one that would be good against the types that Slipp wouldn't be good with. Since Slipp was an Ice type, Ryan should choose something that would be good against Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. The best choice would be a Pokémon that knew Ground type moves, but none of his choices did. He supposed that the Mankey was probably the best bet in this situation. Fire wouldn't be, since it wouldn't really help in this case, although... Growlithe did have Flash Fire. But that still didn't do well against Rock. Then again, Slipp knew Water Gun, which would do really good damage against a Rock type. Unfortunately, if it destroyed Slipp, Growlithe wouldn't be able to do much against it. He knew Poochyena and Electrike weren't the right choices. But would he be better off with a Growlithe, or a Mankey? Wait! Growlithe knew Bite! Though it wasn't super effective against Rock, it was still better than a Fire move against it.

"Okay, though Mankey would probably be better because of type advantages and disadvantages with Slipp, I'm going to have to go with Growlithe. Mostly because it's Flash Fire and Intimidate abilities rock. Now this is a Pokémon I'm just borrowing, right? Like you guys own it?"

It might sound like a stupid question, but Ryan had to ask. He just hoped that in the end he would be glad that he chose the Growlithe. After all, he thought that Growlithe were pretty cool Pokémon. Definitely better than Mankey in his book.

"Okay, now I'm not entirely sure as to where it is that he may be. But if you guys can tell me the places where he's caught bullying others and such, I might be able to come up with a location. I think I might remember in what direction he had stalked off in, but I'm not positive. With the other information though, I'd probably be able to remember better. And then we can start from there. Eventually we'll have to find where his hideout is. Based on what I know of him already, I don't think he's the underground type. He's too cocky. He'll want to know that he can live above ground and get away with it. Not be found. I'm positive of that."

And Ryan was positive of it. As a matter of fact, he was almost willing to bet Slipp on it. Almost. But Ryan wasn't that cocky. After all, it's Jason that we're after. He's the real cocky one. Ryan just thought that he had him at that point in the battle... and then Jason pulled that stunt. It still pissed Ryan off, but it was okay. Because Ryan was going to catch Jason for the police. He was certain about that. He could almost taste victory.

Inspector Jones looked at you with a dull expression on his face. He removed one pokeball from the four that were there and gave it to you. How he knew which one was Growlithe you did not know. You stowed away the fire dog's pokeball away and turned back to face him. He seemed to be mulling over the answer in his mind, trying to come to a conclusion.

"Indeed the Pokémon is mine, until Jason has returned or been captured, then it is yours." He said to you narrowing his eyes. "However, if I find that after the capture of Jason that you and Growlithe have established a genuine connection then I may be persuaded to part with him." He seemed like a big old softy on the inside. But if you didn't make the connection with Growlithe, would you go through the pain of loosing him?

"We don't have much information to go by at the moment or we would have found him already," he said to you in quite an inpatient tone. "We do know however that he mainly operates in Tohea, Hurst and Wayford." "Because these towns are so far apart we have not yet been able to guess where his hide out is."

"We've had a tip off though," he continued. "The next place we're told he will next strike will be in Wayford." "This is where you come in, you will need to go, not to Wayford but to Hurst instead." He said much to your surprise. "It is extremely likely that this 'tip off' is actually a decoy and we are not prepared to take the risk of loosing him."

Well you had the information, so would you be going straight to Hurst?

Ryan's heart almost stopped when he heard that if he got a close connection with the Growlithe, then he could keep it. But he made himself keep his cool and nodded, knowing full well that they didn't have to let him keep the Pokémon at all. It was nice to know that they would let him keep it though, if he proved that he was well liked by the dog. Of course, now that he knew that, he didn't know how he'd feel if the Growlithe didn't like him. On one hand, he'd hate to have a Pokémon that didn't care for him. But on the other hand, he'd probably be even more upset over the fact that the Growlithe didn't like him than the fact that he couldn't keep the Pokémon.

Accepting the terms of that, Ryan then listened as to what the plans were as far as finding Jason. Ryan thought it over carefully, weighing everything together. If there was a tip off that he was going to be going after Wayford, didn't that mean that as a rule the police had to follow that lead? Well he was sure that if they weren't going to let him slip through their fingers then they would have police stationed in Wayford. But at the same time, there was the possibility that they tip was fake, and meant to actually throw the police completely off track. And then it occurred to Ryan that there was even another possibility.

"Who said that he had to be at one of those two locations?" Ryan asked. "If this kid is as smart as I'm guessing, then not only was the tip there to throw you off track from Herst, but they would actually expect you to be looking at both Wayford and Herst. So why bother being there if he can actually stay here without being caught? I'll go to Herst if you guys still want me to go there, but I think it'd probably be a good idea if there was a force here as well. Like you said, we can't just let him escape again."

Of course there was the possibility that Investigator Jones knew for a fact that Jason wouldn't be in Tohea still, but Ryan had no way of knowing that. If the fact of the matter was that Jason was going to either be in Wayford or Herst, then Ryan would go to Herst. Well he'd still go to Herst if they didn't know for a fact that he wasn't going to be in Tohea still. He just thought that this Jason kid might actually be smart enough to double back here unsuspected. And frankly, Ryan wasn't going to let him get away with practically murdering Slipp.

Slipp! With him back in Ryan's mind, he turned to Nurse Joy. "How far along is Slipp? We're probably going to have to leave soon, but you said that his healing could take awhile. Did he happen to heal yet?" Worried, Ryan stood again and looked out the window, wondering what kind of place Jason would be holed up in. And thinking about it some more, Ryan realized that Jason might be such a big power that he didn't have just one hideout. He could very well have one in Tohea, Wayford, and Herst. Of course he still had to figure out what kind of hideout he'd be in. Ryan was positive that it wouldn't be underground. Jason was so cocky that Ryan was sure he'd love to be able to live aboveground under the noses of the police without getting caught. That was just the type of person Jason was.

"I thought of something else," Ryan said, turning to the inspector. "Jason might not have just one hideout. He could have one in all three of the cities. Then he'd be able to get just about anywhere and hide for awhile if needed." Hoping that he didn't sound like an idiot, Ryan waited for the inspector and Nurse Joy to answer his questions and thoughts.

Inspector Jones began to smile more and more as you spoke. Looks like he was a pretty wily guy. He seemed to have played you from the start, forcing you to think and think hard. He muttered to himself, "He's perfect for the job, smarter than you look and completely unassuming." Turning back to you, he said, "You're absolutely right. Jason could have a hideout in each of the major cities, and we have reason to believe he does."

Score one for you. You had just proven yourself to a high-ranking governmental official. Anyways, you moved on to voice concern for Slipp. Nurse Joy looked shocked and said, "He might be healed by now. I'll go check." And so now you were left with old Inspector Jones. What now?

Inspector Jones answered for you. "Like I said, you're right about there being potential for a decoy, but our source was almost certain that Hurst was where Jason will strike. We're not sure how he gets around so fast, but with Pokémon, anything is possible. We're going to send you via air to our four agents in Hurst. They'll tell you what they know and give you a radio to call us in and make the arrest. You may have to stall him, but you should do well. What do you say? Are you sure that you're ready?"

How cool is this? First day out and you're on the trails of a child criminal and you even get to get revenge. I must say, that is pretty damned awesome. So, time to get a move on. Make your choice. The future of the three cities lies in your hands. Make the RIGHT choice.

Pleased with himself, Ryan almost let his head swell, but knew that he couldn't let himself get cocky now. After all, he was beaten once by Jason, and there was no telling that he wouldn't get beaten down yet again. The only thing that was stopping that from happening was Ryan himself. So he'd have to do his very best at accomplishing this task so he could move on with his journey.

"Alright, I'm ready to do this. As soon as Slipp is healed I'll be all set to head to Hurst." Then remembering that he was using a Growlithe, Ryan decided to know more about it. "What level is this Growlithe at, and what gender is it? It's best to know that before battling so I know what moves and such it has. Oh, and if it has an egg move I should probably know that too."

He could hope for an egg move, and a good one at that, but Ryan didn't know if these Pokémon were bred for the police. If they were though... then that would mean that this would probably be a top of the line Growlithe. And that would definitely make Ryan feel a lot better about the whole situation.

Inspector Jones looked at you and smiled. "I shall tell you only one thing. That Growlithe was bred for battle and to track down illegal substances. He'll serve you well. Trust me." With that final statement, the detective would say nothing more on the subject. He led you out of the room and into the waiting area. After staying there for ten or so minutes, the waiting ended.

Nurse Joy came over and gave you three things. First, she handed you a newly healed Slipp. Then, she wrapped you in a big hug and whispered, "Good luck." Now, that was probably somewhat embarrassing in front of all the people, but I'd take it for granted. You'll need that luck in times to come. This job won't be easy.

After that strange occurrence, you followed Inspector Jones to the Wayford Police Station. There, he sent you to the stables where three large birds and a few horses were kept. Leading a Pidgeot out, he prepared it for riding. Giving you a boost on, he said, "Good luck. And keep this with you at all times." He pressed something into your hand and the Pidgeot flew off. You could have looked at the thing, but Pidgeot was flying way too fast to be able to check it without losing it.

Finally, after a long and boring trip, you landed in near the stables of the Hurst Police Station. Immediately you were surrounded by police agents. Looking at the thing Jones had given you, you realized that it was a badge presenting you as from the Wayford Police. You might want to show that to these guys.

((I'm stopping here because there is a lot to react to. If you'd like, I can continue onwards without your input. If you'd like that, PM me and I'll keep going.))

Ryan sighed in a bit of frustration of not knowing everything he had wanted to about the Growlithe. But he supposed that the answers he was looking for would be found soon enough. All he needed was a little bit of patience, and the answer he got did make him feel a lot better. Knowing that the Pokémon he had received for help was bred for battle and finding drugs made Ryan know that he was safe with it.

Also, the fact that Growlithe had been bred to track down illegal substances would undoubtedly come in handy. Someone like Jason would probably be in the drug business to some extent. More likely than not, Jason was a big dealer in the major cities of Tohea, and hopefully that would help lead Jason to his downfall.

In the waiting room, Ryan figured he'd be waiting for at least half an hour. But he was surprised when ten minutes later Slipp was handed to him, fully healed. He silently thanked the Powers That Be for Slipp's good recovery. Then he got a hug and a good luck from Nurse Joy, which made Ryan feel a bit uncomfortable. But at the same time, it felt nice, and Ryan was grateful that she seemed to care for his well being. Ryan made a mental note to come back to Tohea's Pokémon Center at some point.

Then Ryan followed Jones to the police station and was soon boarded onto a Pidgeot with something clutched in his hand. The trip seemed to take a life time and it was incredibly boring. Finally, landing in Hurst, Ryan was surrounded by police agents, and he looked down in his hand. Seeing the badge, he flashed it to the other officers.

Figuring that the officers knew what he was there for, Ryan got off of the bird without a word and instead waited for the officers around him to start talking. After all, they apparently had some information to give him, and then they might also equip him with more stuff that he'd need. Sighing, Ryan knew only one thing. He wanted to get this done and over with. The sooner Jason was caught, the sooner Ryan could be happy. And free to do as he pleased.

As soon as you flashed the badge, the men stopped beind hostile and came over to welcome you. One of them said to you, "Kid, we're so glad your're here. Its time to show Jason that we mean business." The other officers voiced their assent, and the man who spoke to you introduced himself as Chief Richter.

The men led you into the large building that served as their Headquarters. They led you into the planning room where a big map of Hurst lay sprawled on a table. A large building in the far corner of the city was circled and a J was written on top of it. You figured that must be where the police suspected Jason's hideout was. Chief Richter said to you, "That's where Jason keeps his hideout. To get you in, we'll be driving you over there in the back of a squad car and tossing you out as if you were a criminal. One of Jason's men will likely find you and take you there because you're in his territory."

The men led you into the next room over where countless gadgets were scattered everywhere. The men instructed you to leave your badge on the table. They handed you a big ratty coat and some old disgusting clothing. It was getting on in years, but when put on, they would surely make you look like a criminal. The chief informed you that the coat had a wireless mike threaded into it that would transmit all that was said to the police station.

The next thing the men did was give you a slip of paper and told you to memorize the information on it because it was your cover. It read: You are a homeless kid who was picked up by the police for stealing. No witness stood up to accuse you of doing the act, so you were held in a cell for only one night. The police threw you out in Jason's territory because they group all homeless losers together (so the people claim) and don't care about what could happen. You are to act as if you hate the police and the city. You looked up to signify that you were done and the chief told you, "Ask any questions now or forever hold your peace."

Ryan definitely agreed with the police that Jason had to realize that they were going to be doing their business. He may think it was all fun and games and that the police were too stupid to catch him, but he was about to find out how wrong he was. After all, it was pretty fair to say that since Ryan went up against Jason and survived, he'd have learned something from it. Possibly something that would turn the tides and make it so that he could very well beat Jason up a little bit. Ya never know what one can do until you try it, right?

He then followed them all into the station and looked at what they were pointing to. It was surprising how much information they seemed to know when Jones didn't allude to this fact. However, that could be because information like that wasn't always just handed out. And he did say that they would be telling him more here, and indeed they were. But the problem with everything was that Jason might be expecting this kind of action from the police. Of course, if he did, he might very well be waiting for it to happen and will try dealing with it himself. Which would bring the police there to capture him sooner.

Once he had the clothes on and he read over what he needed to memorize, he nodded. This sounded somewhat plausible anyways, though he wasn't sure if the people outside would believe it. They might though, as knowing Jason, he didn't hire anybody too smart to be his lackies. After all, he couldn't take the risk of having someone take over the business from the inside. Why would he be smart enough to know something like that? Because that was the kind of thing Jason would do in a business to get to be head of it.

"I'll use the phrase 'dead on' when I've gotten to him. Then you guys move in and try getting to me. I'll hold Jason off if he finds out what's going on. I'm sure that Slipp would love to see him again. Plus Growlithe should be able to match well with him. I think I already know something I can do with them together."

Ryan grinned, ready to take this challenge head on. No questions needed answering. The only thing that had to be done was getting Jason behind bars where he belonged.

Sheesh. You think of things even I don't think of. I guess it comes with actually having to 'experience' this thing. Anyways, the police smiled at your attempt to help. The chief looked at you and said, "'Dead on' is a great code word. However, you must know this. This might take longer than a single day. Jason doesn't let just anyone see him, and to be honest, who can blame him? He blends into crowds as a nobody, but at home, he keeps himself safe. You'll have to be certain that the person who you call us to is Jason. We've caught more than our fair share of look-a-likes. Be wary at all times. And Good Luck."

With that, you were escorted into the back of a patrol car with two cops on either side of you and your hands cuffed behind your back. These cops really got into the act, huh? So you drove through the town and you got to do a bit of sightseeing, but you couldn't tell much of what was around. There were just big brick buildings everywhere. Whatever the buildings were, they were not labeled. Finally, you reached an area where buildings were made of concrete not brick. They looked to be like warehouses of a sort. The buildings stretched as far as the eye could see in front of you and to your right and left. With so many, it would be easy to hide a criminal ring.

Stopping in front of a random warehouse, the cops let you out. They removed your handcuffs and shoved you to the ground. The cop on your right said, "Don't let us hear about you stealing again. Next time, we might just bend some rules." He grinned evilly and got back into the car, which drove off back into the city. So, here you were sitting on the ground in unfamiliar territory with no help anywhere in sight. What could you do?

O yeah. And did I mention that there were seven eyes watching you from behind one of the buildings? All you could see was a pair of yellow eyes close to the ground, a red eye floating about four feet up, and a pair of piercing blue eyes about seven feet up. Some things were watching you. So I'd watch out for myself.

Ryan frowned, realizing that even he should have known that Jason would have people that look like him to fool others. After all, just because he was cocky didn't mean that he wouldn't try to do something to protect himself. He wasn't stupid after all. But the good thing was that Ryan knew how Jason would act in battle, something that nobody could copy. Every person had their own way of battling, and Ryan knew very well that he'd recognize Jason's style right off.

Getting handcuffed, though unlikable, was very smart, and Ryan just hoped that it wouldn't be long before he was no longer in them. Eventually, he got his wishes granted, though he was then thrown out of the car, and Ryan had to admit that these cops were pretty good at acting. He was sure that if anyone from Jason's business had seen him they would be fooled into believing that Ryan was a thief of some kind. Closing his eyes, he remembered that his story was being held in a cell for the night, but then being dumped because nobody had witnessed the crime.

Also remembering that he was supposed to be acting like he loathed the police and city, Ryan put on the best disgusted face he could while getting up. Knowing he had to get in the act, Ryan forced anger upon himself, which wasn't hard if he thought about how Slipp was almost murdered. Then he saw the eyes staring out at him and he stopped dead. Sure he had a Growlithe now to help protect him, but...

When Ryan's Poketch went off, he nearly had a heart attack, but pushed a button anyways, popping up the message that he had received a Lapras. He smiled, glad that he had another Pokémon to help him in his quests, though he didn't suppose it'd be good to let her out on the Pokémon out there. However, he did decide to name her Latis, after the Goddess of water.

Not wanting to risk anything, Ryan ran towards a building away from the eyes and began pounding on it, calling for someone to come out. He now knew that Jason wouldn't come out, since he seemed to be more careful than Ryan first thought, so that was good. But that didn't mean that the person who did come out would help him, especially if he seemed weak. Ryan could tell them that almost all of his Pokémon were taken away from him, except for three, though they might still expect a criminal to be unafraid of the eyes.

If he had to guess, he'd say that the floating eye belonged to a Misdreavus. The yellow and blue eyes were much harder to guess the owners of. And frankly, Ryan wasn't too keen on attacking them to find out what they were.

There was no real need to nearly have a heart attack. I mean it isn't like there's a famous blue-eyed mass murderer who's known to be seven feet tall and to have a yellow-eyed Growlithe, and a Duskull with one floating red eye standing across the street from you. Wait a minute. Those eyes fit that description. I think you're pretty screwed. Unless its some guy who happens to look like said murderer or said murderer is just my paranoia. Who knows.

Anyways, you left the street you left the street you were on to get away from the creepy eyes. After pounding frantically on the poor door that really didn't deserve such pounding, a little door opened at about eye level. Two green eyes and part of a face looked at you and whispered, "What do you want, kid?" His tone was frantic as he looked left and right. Noticing the eyes that were following you from the shadows, he said, "Nevermind. Bye." The door slammed shut and you were stuck outside again. Looks like I was wrong about the random guy part. Seems that this guy was the real deal.

The seven eyes kept coming closer and closer. Now, it looks like no one here will help with this creepy stalker/murderer guy. So either get running or wait to see what he wants. He doesn't seem to be trying to chase you down. Maybe he just wants to talk to you. Make the choice.

When the door was slammed in his face before he could answer the guy who had opened it, Ryan didn't know what to do. Turning around to face the guy he decided that there weren't very many options. He could continue to try to pound on doors to find shelter from the mysterious entity. Calling out his Pokémon to help him was also an option, though he wasn't very keen on that. Finally, he supposed that he could just let the eyes get to him and find out what it was that they were doing.

Since battling was out and one person already shut him out, Ryan supposed that the only thing to do was to find out what this guy wanted. He took a deep breath and tried his best at calming down, which he found was easier than the thought. Once his heart had slowed down considerably, he let the breath out, but kept himself calm. Then he decided to talk, now that he knew he could keep his voice steady. And without cracking.

"Hello. Sorry, I was just tossed out here by the police and am not really looking for any more trouble. It isn't my fault that this god damned city won't help me out. And then I get punished by the cops for it. Now what? I'm going to get slaughtered? Well I certainly hope not!"

Not realizing that he was actually encouraging himself, Ryan was standing fully tall now, and his eyes were blazing. Wow, acting like he hated the city and police might not be as hard as one would think. But still, he couldn't let his guard down. So one hand on a Pokeball that held one of the Pokémon he currently had, Ryan waited to find out what it was that this guy was up to. He hoped that if anything was to come of this, it might be to get closer to Jason, or at least get inside of everything. Perhaps he could at least figure out how things would work.

Oh yeah, and he shouldn't be scared anyways. The police could hear everything going on, so they would be able to come help him if anything bad really did happen. He hoped it wouldn't come to that though, as that would ruin the whole operation underway. 'Just don't do anything please,' Ryan thought.
