Oh, how delightful! Another teenager that has went through many life scarring events such as paranoia and murder sight! Oh, if only we had more people like you to make us feel happy that we don't have genetic drug-abusing parents whom were killed in front of our eyes by our foster parents if we ever had one! But seriously, I'm truly sorry for you having to be forced on your own to create a new path. But you're an adult now, so you shouldn't mind as long as you don't think about it too much while you're here in Tohea where the grass is green, the buildings stand tall, and people attack maliciously in the streets in hope of stealing from you. Yup, it's that kind of society that makes the Pokémon training career so exhilarating. Enough about that, though, cause we are here to make good of ourselves and not stand-up comedians. I'm going to try to make this guiding introduction quick and painless for you because I know how much you want to get out there and explore, so just bare with me for another paragraph or two. I have to get you to the people, the sights, the locations, and more importantly, the Pokémon. So if you want a more in-depth look on what your going into, just try to read on. The clocks placed just about everywhere possible were all pointing with both hands to the twelve right... about... now. Now it's noon and most businessmen should be at lunch as well as the entire community of Tohea City. Restaurants open up and let the customers spill in with the food they have in mind to eat. Cars begin to speed up for lunch hour and set themselves into parking areas before other people infest the entire lot. Streets and roads begin to clear up and become much more visible now that less people and vehicles are in motion. The Pokémon scurry into the alleyways and bide their time until the chefs throw out the leftover food for them to eat. You are still standing in the middle of the sidewalk still listening to that voice in your head telling you crap about crap while you could already be ordering food and such. But if you aren't that hungry then you could re-stock on items at the Pokémart right around the corner or go to the Explorer's Lounge to get yourself a map or some special trekking item for later on. You feel like you've gotten enough shit from my talk? Good, because you're on your own until one of my kind comes back for your next decision. |

Ryan just stood there, as patient as possible while the voice inside of his head rambled on. Once it had finally finished, he rolled his eyes as if to say "about time" and started walking. Well if he had a choice as to what he should do first, he supposed that it would be to head over to the Explorers' Lounge so he could go get a map and whatever else it was that he was supposed to get. After all, he really had to have that kind of stuff if he hoped to make it in this new land. And he frowned when he thought about the other things. Yes, he did have a pretty traumatizing experience, but that's why he was here. He hoped to fit in somewhere and find out what exactly he should do with his life. So why would he want to be thinking about that? He wouldn't! Stupid voice telling him what to do and what not. Wasn't this his life? Ugh. He really couldn't blame the voice though. They were trying to sympathize with him... on some kind of level. At least Ryan was pretty sure it was. When he finally got to the Lounge, he walked in and looked around. All he really needed was a map, although if he was given something else too, that would be pretty nice. Of course he didn't expect that to happen, since life... well once you reached adulthood you had to come to terms with something. Life sucked. Ryan knew it. He accepted it. Grudgingly, yes, but still. He was over it and moving on. So here he was. Awaiting a map. Then he'd head off to who knows where. Perhaps someone here would want a little battle. If he could find someone with a Pokémon around Level 5 that was. He wasn't about to battle someone with a freaking Level 87 Charizard or anything else that would be ridiculously difficult to battle with a Level 5 Spheal. Oh, that was another thought! Perhaps he could go and find another Pokémon to capture! Or maybe he should see if he could find a job somewhere first and make a little bit more money. After all, he didn't suppose that his money was going to get him very far. But he didn't know exactly where to go to get a job. Maybe someone here could help him with that too. No matter. Walking up to someone who seemed to know what to do here, Ryan began to ask his questions. "Hello, my name is Ryan. I just arrived here from my home, and I was wondering if I could get a map. And also, I'm going to need some money, so is there a place I could go to to try to get a job of some kind?" He really hoped he didn't sound like a moron, though he thought that his being new to this region was a good enough reason not to know these kinds of things. Still, he hoped he didn't pick one of the most horrible people to ask this information out of. Although if he did, at least he'd learn how to deal with someone in this region pretty quickly. Still... he just wanted a map. And to be pointed in the right general direction. 'Here's to starting my new life.' |

"So, you're a newb trainer, eh?" the fairly large, dark-bearded guy asked at the front desk as you asked him questions. This guy was reminiscent of a booze drinker, and he sort of smelled like it under a layer of cologne. He had a plain black shirt and some common jeans on; you couldn't see his feet from where you were standing, as they were situated under a desk. Sighing, he handed a map of Tohea City to you. "That'll be $50 bucks, kid. As for jobs, few people are hiring right now, and most of the ones that are hiring are businesses that require collegiate degrees. Perhaps you could check in tomorrow; you never know when a job request will come in. But for now, sit tight and wait for a job that you can perform." With that, you had no choice but to leave the place, fifty dollars poorer and with a new map. Feeling a little bummed at the lack of jobs, you hardly noticed a kid of about sixteen walk up to challenge you. "Hey, wanna battle me and my new Pokémon partner?" he inquired, releasing a Seel as he did so. "One on one, no switching?" Well, at least this would give you a way to kill time. So...how about it? Ryan crinkled his nose at the stale smell of alcohol, and was deeply disappointed by the news. Especially at the cost of the map. Hearing this, he almost gave the map back... but instead handed over the money. Unwilling perhaps, but he did fork it over and looked at the map. Oh well, maybe it would be well worth it. It would be easier for him to find things anyhow. And that's always good. Perhaps he could just go around from business to business, looking for a job. Maybe even something for only the day to get paid for. Just something to earn a couple hundred dollars would be nice. He almost didn't even notice that a kid walked up to him, until he spoke. A one on one battle without switching? Good call, seeing as how he didn't have any other Pokémon but Slipp. The funny thing about it was that this was going to be a battle between two similar Pokémon. "Sounds like a good idea," Ryan said. "This is going to be my first battle, so it should be pretty entertaining. For you more than me probably." Ryan grinned at this. "Alright, let's try this out Slipp!" Upon releasing his Spheal, Ryan had already devised a strategy in his head. "Okay, I want you to get ready for an attack by Seel. Once it starts moving, use Growl to lower its attack power. Then I want you to try freezing it in its tracks with Powder Snow." Though it was highly unlikely that he would put Seel under the frozen condition, it was still worth the shot, right? And the Growl would hopefully cut back on the damage done to him. At least he hoped so. Meanwhile, he'd have to think of a different strategy. Probably something more physical, as the moves that Slipp currently had weren't very effective against water types. And hey, while battling, why not try to get ahold of a job too? "Hey, would you happen to know if anybody is hiring around here? I was just told that there really wasn't anything, but maybe since you're out and about, you might know of a new offer. I just really need to get a job to make some money." Edited by DarkSlayer1331, Jun 19 2008, 03:04 PM.

"Sure," the kid said, nodding. "An older man just retired from the Pokémart, and they're looking for new employees. I heard that the job pays $250 a week. Sorry to change the subject, but Seelie and I are itching to battle." Gee, that was adrupt, but useful information. You may want to keep that in mind. "Okay Seelie, interrupt that Spheal's Growl with a Headbutt, and then negate its Powder Snow with that new move we just learned, Icy Wind!" Hmm, it looked as though he was going for an "eye for an eye" approach here. Seelie lowered his head and slid forwards with a Headbutt ready. Spheal was able to successfully Growl in his direction before the thing's jagged horn hit him and sent him rolling towards you like a bowling ball. Regaining his footing, your Spheal started using Powder Snow while the Seel countered with Icy Wind. Both ice-like attacks hit each other midway between both Pokémon, refusing to give ground to either Pokémon. Suddenly, the force of both attacks exploded in a shower of snow, covering everything within a fifteen foot radius...including you and the other trainer. Small ice shards rained down, but both ice Pokémon ignored them and didn't feel hardly any pain. Glaring at each other, they snorted, waiting for the next round. Both seal-like beings wanted blood. Ryan huffed inside at the job that the boy heard of. It might have been a job, but the pay wasn't that great, and he'd be standing in a Mart. How would that help him in training his Pokémon? Well it really probably wouldn't, and so that wasn't the kind of job Ryan was looking for. Though he'd probably still be able to battle at times and such. Just that a lot of his day would be in the mart... standing around and taking money. TAKING MONEY! That was it! If he got the job at the register then he could... no. He couldn't do that. First of all, they would know right away that it was him, and he'd get arrested. And besides that, he didn't want to start stealing money. Otherwise he wouldn't have bothered looking for a job, would he? No, he'd probably just go and try attacking someone and stealing their stuff. Snapping out of it, he just managed to see the Growl be used just in time. And then he saw Powder Snow get canceled out by the Icy Wind. Upset by this turn out, Ryan was about ready to just give up, but he knew he couldn't that. For heaven's sake, this was his first battle. He just had to suck it up and come up with a different strategy. Well here went nothing. "Don't let it get to you Slipp. This kid obviously has had this Pokémon a little longer than he let on. I guess we shouldn't assume anything. Apparently by saying new partner he meant a Pokémon he had long enough to teach it a move that it wouldn't normally learn for another five levels." Yes, that was sarcasm, and he hoped the kid caught on to that. Talk about leading someone astray. "Anyways, let's see if we can come up with a new idea. Since the ground around us is now convered in snow and ice, it should be slippery. The perfect stuff for you. Especially when using this kind of combo! I want you to use Agility to heighten your speed. Then I want you to slip as fast as you can towards Seel before it can do anything to stop you. If it tries using Icy Wind again, try sliding out of its range. Either way, I want you to try to hit it with a Tackle." This would be perfect. The increased speed because of Agility plus the speed Slipp would gain from sliding on snow and ice would make Tackle a lot more powerful than it would have been before. Hopefully this would pan out better than the last round did. |

The ground around you was covered in ice and snow. It was like Christmas in...June? That is not right. Snow in June just doesn't work. However, you had a Pokémon built for such conditions and you were going to use it to your advantage. Sadly, your opponent's Pokémon also was fit to live in the icy cold of the North. The Seel watched Slipp begin to slip and slide across the ice rapidly gaining speed. Seelie waited patiently for his master's orders. They came quickly, "Seelie. Mirror his moves. Whatever direction he goes in, go the opposite. When he gets close enough use Icy Wind." Seelie nodded and went to work. Turning to you, the trainer said, "Well, I had to get you to fight somehow. I need Seelie to practice his moves." Well, he was just showing himself to be more and more of a jerk. He blatantly lied to you just to get a battle. What a bully. On the field, both Pokémon were carrying their orders out well. Slipp stayed out of range of Seelie's Icy Wind, and Seelie didn't let Slipp gain any ground. Or that's what he thought. Slowly but surely, Slipp was moving closer and closer to Seelie, gaining speed all the while. Soon, Seelie couldn't keep up and that's when the it hit him. Slipp was just a blue blur and suddenly, he came barreling into Seelie. The poor Pokémon hadn't a chance. Seelie was sent flying backwards into a snowbank. He pulled himself up out of the bank and shook himself to clear his face. He looked a little dizzy from all that motion and sliding, but Slipp seemed more off-kilter. The little Spheal was spinning randomly, obviously very dizzy. Things were looking up for you in terms of strategy, but Slipp wasn't doing so hot. Ryan's lip curled a bit as the kid was being... well... even more of a jerk. He really just wanted to go over there and punch him in the face. At this point, it wouldn't surprise him if the kid hatched his Seel himself. That would explain how it learned Icy Wind so quickly. Anyways, Ryan was sure that if Seel tried using Icy Wind again, it would take out a lot of energy. After all, it was a move that a Level 6 Seel just wasn't used to having to use over and over again like that. At some point, it should drain him. Ryan thought so anyways. It was tough for Slipp to be doing what he was trying to do, and Ryan could only hope that things turned out well. Unfortunately, it seemed that Seel was going the same speed that Slipp was. Which probably meant that Slipp hadn't used Agility yet, and Ryan didn't know why. Then it dawned on him. His Pokémon was waiting for the Seel to make his moves or do something wrong. Sure enough, once Seel had used Icy Wind, it was only a matter of moments before Slipp had sped up with Agility. And the Tackle that followed sure smacked Seel some, sending it flying into a snow bank. Yeah, cool down. Ryan grinned. Then, seeing his own Pokémon incredibly dizzy, Ryan bit his lip. What would he do to help him? Could he...? Why not? This kid had blatantly lied to get him into a battle, and the rules of this battle were no switching Pokémon. And Ryan didn't have any Pokémon to switch. But the kid never said anything about returning Pokémon strategically. "Slipp, return!" As soon as his Pokémon was in its Pokeball, he released it back out. "There, that should have helped you. Try to just shake the dizziness off. Now I want you to use Defense Curl to raise your defense. That way if you're too dizzy to get out of the way of Seel's next move, it should do less damage to you. Hopefully. If you recover from your dizziness, I want you to rush Seel again, but this time try not to spin anywhere. Just go in straight lines. And instead of Tackle, I want you to lower your head into a Headbutt. Maybe Seel will flinch if we're lucky!" Normally, Ryan would have said something to the trainer while battling. He wasn't one to ignore someone or anything. But this kid was nothing but a jerk! So a cold shoulder to fit the cold weather. Seemed like the perfect idea right now. 'Let's just see how this next round goes, then,' Ryan thought. |

The opposing trainer looked rather triumphant as you recalled Slipp back to his pokeball. Pompous as ever, he had already begun walking across the ice to wish you 'good-battle'. Sadly enough, that turned out to be a big mistake on his part. Slipp's return to the battle-field and the opposing trainer's subsequent anger, outrage, and clumsiness caused him to fall face-forward onto the ice. Cursing, he scrambled back towards Seel and then onto a non-slippery surface. "You can't do that!" He bellowed "I have a mind to report you ...." He didn't have time to finish as he realized that Slipp was only slightly dizzy after your actions. Seel was in grave danger unless he was to do something quickly. It didn't help matters to see that Slipp had already begun to follow your instructions and rush off towards' Seel in what might be a lethal head-butt. Still cringing in pain, he hurridly screamed the following to the beleagured Seel: "Seel, I want you to use a head-butt too. Make sure to hit it with your horn! If you can't it hit, then try another Icy Wind attack!" If Slipp got hit by that horn the battle would undoubtedly slip to your opponent's favor. However there were several things that Slipp had to his credit. The most important being that Seel was being drained from using Icy Wind. Granted, it wasn't at an alarming rate, but steadily the Seel was losing the power and focus behind its' moves. Second, Seel was still somewhat dazed from the last attack. Moving in near unision both Seal-Pokémon rushed at each other using head-butt. Slipp, however, wasn't an idiot and knew the possible implications of getting hit by that horn. Cleverly, he 'slipped' out of the way of Seel's head and was able to land a well-placed blow on its' tail. This meant that Seel would have a bit of difficulty moving. The excellent location of the attack caused Slipp to get caught nearly full force against Seel's icy-wind attack. However, differentiations in the health of the Pokémon were beggining to be rather obvious. Doggedly, Seel shook off its' former dizziness and looked to his trainer for orders. Slipp skidded back towards you. He seemed eager to win the battle for you, and more than slightly amused that the trainer had fallen on the ice. Level 6 17/37 70%[Slight movement difficulty, shook off dizziness] Level 5 22/35 70%[No ailments] |

Ryan raised an eyebrow when the trainer came forward, looking quite pleased with himself. And then, when the trainer slipped and fell on his face, Ryan couldn't help but laugh. Did he actually think that Ryan had already given up, before he had given the battle a fair chance? If that was the case, then this kid was highly stupid. And that thought was only confirmed when the kid said that he would report Ryan for recalling and resending his Pokémon out. "Report me for what? I didn't break any of our rules. You just said that we couldn't switch our Pokémon, not that we couldn't return them and send them back out in a strategic matter. Besides, you're the one who lied to me to get me to battle you in the first place. I'm sure that that would be something they'd fine you for, as it's improper training techniques." And with that, Ryan started coming up with his next attack. Since Seel was slowly being drained, what better time to use the three move combo than now? So he figured he'd increase Slipp's speed some more and hit Seel hard with a stronger attack than a Tackle. Then probably try finishing it off with an attack that the trainer wouldn't expect to happen. Hopefully Seel wouldn't expect it either, since what happened the last time. Of course, Ryan had to be ready for any other tactics that the other trainer could use. Icy Wind might not be the move that he tries anymore... unless he tries a defensive attack like that still to save his precious Seel from being hit hard. "Okay Slipp, I'm sure you know what I want you to do while you're attacking. Make sure that you watch out for another Icy Wind, as that seems to be its defensive strategy. But if it changes strategies, you have to be ready for it. I want you to start out with another Agility to raise your speed, so that way you can better dodge hits, and at the same time hit Seel faster than it can retaliate. Once your speed is up, I want you to try a Body Slam, but make sure you don't go in the way that would make him able to use Icy Wind. Try going around him, and getting him from behind. Since you hurt his tail, he shouldn't be able to move that well. Once you do that, I want you to try finishing it off with a move completely unexpected. A move that failed for us earlier on. Powder Snow! Freeze that Seel!" Smirking, Ryan knew that this really wasn't a bad strategy at all. It was always good to increase speed to make physical hits do more damage, as well as make it easier to dodge attacks. The Body Slam would undoubtedly be something that would finish the Seel off, since it really didn't have a good frame structure to protect it. Finally, the Powder Snow was a move that failed for them before, and wouldn't be expected by the enemy. Even if the trainer could come up with a way to defend against it, it would be too late, because he also has to try to defend against Body Slam. That and of course Slipp's speed would have another boost, which would make him almost invincible. Ryan could only hope that it would work. |

The trainer opposing you only gritted his teeth at your retort before brushing from hair out of his face and smirking. "Seel, finish this off with Icy Wind and your egg move." The trainer commanded his smirk still on his face while he spoke. He closed his eyes and passed one hand over his forehead, through his hair, and while his hand was at the top of his head, he opened his eyes and you saw a hint of evil in them. "You shouldn't have said anything." With that, the round started with Slipp using agility to maneouver over the gradually melting ice. Sliding from side to side, he attempted to make Seel become unknowing of his position, though he hadn't noticed that every inch he moved, the ice that trailed behind him would mark his trail. Seel just kept his eyes on the other seal-Pokémon as it skidded across the ground. "Seel!" The Pokémon called as it released a powerful burst of icy air outwards towards Spheal, predicting its path of attack. Spheal, unable to really be able to dodge the burst of air, took the attack head on as he used the prepultion to skid faster on the ice, back towards you as, when it reached you, it turned and propelled itself back towards Seel. "NOW!" The trainer called as Spheal darted towards Seel. With a silent nod, Seel layed down on his stomach and started spinning around quickly, using the ice to do so as he never once moved from the place he was located. Spheal, unknowing of what was happening, continued onwards towards Seel before he leapt into the air and prepared himself to slam into Seel with body slam. Suddenly, seel rocketed from where he was at, and leapt into the air while still spinning rapidly, and struck the Spheal hard in the area between its flippers. "HORN DRILL!" The trainer called as Seel continued to rotate, it's horn impaling spheal badly in the 'chest.' Soon enough, Seel stopped its rotating and landed onto the ground with a loud thud, only to wacth Spheal do the same, only with a much louder thud and x's in his eyes. "I win," The opposing trainer said as he recalled his Pokémon and walked off. "Hardly worth it." He said before walking away, never to be seen again. ![]() 0/35 62%Spheal gained no EXP, and needs to be rushed to the Pokémon center. |

Ryan gave a sneer, completely disgusted with how cocky this kid was, and the only thing that went through his mind is how much of a trouble maker he must be. He was sure that if he went to the police they would say something like that was just how he was. And probably something like "his daddy owns half the town" or some stupid shit like that. Wouldn't that just be his luck? Well if he did something that seriously hurt Slipp, the kid would be sorry. Egg move? Since he didn't say what it was, it undoubtedly was something powerful, and very dangerous. "Slipp..." Ryan said softly, hoping that he would be ready for the worst thing to happen. He saw him take the Icy Wind right in the face and winced a bit, seeing that already his Pokémon wasn't prepared for that. Shaking his head, he could only hope that Slipp would be a little more careful with his Body Slam. When Seel started spinning on the ice, Ryan was really confused, especially with how it was that Seel was able to spin like that. No doubt he had been practicing it with his trainer for a really long time now. Then, when he saw Slipp start to come down, and Seel start to come up, Ryan knew what was going to happen. But it was already too late, and by the time Ryan had his mouth open, Slipp was getting drilled in his chest. The battle was over, and the kid was walking away, leaving Ryan to deal with his horribly damaged Pokémon. Horrified, Ryan ran over to Slipp, getting on his knees and picking him up. "Slipp, are you okay?" He checked him for blood and such, and once done, returned him back in his Pokeball. Taking out the map that he had just received, he located the Pokémon Center and started running, passing many onlookers, and bumping into some. He was sure he heard plenty of swearing coming from them, but he didn't care. Within a few minutes, he had gotten to the Center, and ran in, his Pokeball in hand. "Please, can you heal my Spheal? It just got drilled hard in the chest by a Seel. This kid... he was horrible. Lied to me to get me to battle him, and then threatened to report me for doing something that we never said we couldn't do. Then he ordered his Pokémon to use Horn Drill like that... and I don't know how damaging it was." Gritting his teeth, he pushed the Pokeball towards the nurse and decided that he was going to go the police. Just as soon as Slipp was done being healed, he was going to go to the police and make sure something was going to be done. He didn't care if he had to sit there and wait all day to find out that the kid was being punished, he just wanted to make sure that he paid. Hell, if the kid's Pokémon were taken away for misuse and mistreatment for purposefully endangering the livelihood of another Pokémon, why Ryan would be happier than he had been in a really long time. There was no way someone could do something like that and get away with it. Was there? |

Nurse Joy took your Pokeball and gave it to an attendant. She came out from behind the counter and guided you to one of the chairs lining the wall. Wrapping her arm around your shoulders, she tried to console you. She told you that with the healing techniques developed, your Spheal would be perfectly fine in a few hours. However, she wanted to know more about the kid who battled you. She said, "I think I know who it was. That's probably Jason. He's a street kid who battles just to win and nothing else. No one really knows why. He'll do anything to win and his Seel will follow his orders without question. Its a remarkable relationship, but its also frightening." She explained how Jason and his Seel were likely tied to an underground small time criminal gang. They robbed and mugged people and perhaps some drug trafficking. None of the other people showed their faces, just Jason. Nurse Joy looked up after explaining all of this to you and asked, "Would you be willing to find Jason? You were the last person to have seen him and perhaps you can figure out where he went. What do you say?" |

Ryan listened to the nurse's words intently, and let himself relax when he heard Slipp would be okay. He wasn't that happy that it would take a few hours, but it was better than finding out that he was going to die within the day. Then he listened about the thoughts of the underground gang and everything about this kid named Jason. Though he had no way of knowing if it was the same kid, Ryan wouldn't have been surprised if it was. After the nurse finished talking, Ryan nodded his head, determined to help out. "Yeah, I'll try my best to find this Jason kid. But what am I supposed to do once I find him? He already destroyed me once, there's no way I can battle him again and survive. If he saw me again, he'd probably try to kill me, as he almost murdered Slipp when I threatened to turn him in." He wasn't sure if he could even find Jason though, but that didn't mean he wouldn't try. Besides, if he did find Jason and actually did something good for everyone, luck might go his way. Wasn't there something called karma. It went something like for every good thing or bad thing you do, it's returned to you three fold. Or ten fold maybe. Ryan couldn't exactly remember. |

Nurse Joy listened to your sad lament about being helpless and smiled graciously at you. She replied, "Don't worry. We'll have a police force ready to back you up when you find Jason and the gang. Nothing can go wrong." She motioned for you to follow you behind the counter and into the real hospital area. Bringing you to a room, she lifted the phone and spoke into it. She seemed to be calling a man to this very room. After hanging up the phone, Nurse Joy told you to stay put and left the room. 10 minutes later, she came in with a man in a fedora hat and a trench coat. She introduced him as Inspector Jones, the man who had been tracking Jason for months. Walking over and sitting next to you, Inspector Jones, said, "Kid. I've seen a lot of people hurt by Jason. You sure you've got the guts to bring him in?" What was this guy talking about. You had enough guts, right? |
