Finally! You were able to head off into the world, able to live on your own. As you looked out to the streets of Tohea, only one thought came to your mind, Where do you start? Well, as you just aimlessly wandered, you found yourself in a very busy city here in Tohea. Stores all over the place, selling little things, like food, random items, and a ton of other stuff. Though, after a good fifteen minutes of walking, you found yourself on the sandy shores of the Tohea beach. Feeling to cool breeze of the ocean against your skin, you felt an instant calmness as you then took notice of the waves as they crashed against the shore, rising up. Soon enough a male trainer came up to you, his bare chest glistening with sea water as he looked at you. His shorts clung tight to his clothing as he looked at you and started speaking. "Hey, are you a trainer?" He asked curiously as his deep, almost adult, voice rang in your ear. "If you are, do you want to have a Pokémon battle?" Well, that was straight forwards I suppose, now the question was, would you accept his challenge? Edited by Blazing Falcon, Jun 17 2008, 07:41 PM.

The cool breeze on her skin was calming. Sybil smiled, thrilled with the sense of freedom. Absent-mindedly rubbing her hand behind her neck, she took a moment to look around. There was a reason she had left home. But… everything looked so exciting, even the little shops. Bright blue eyes twinkled a little as she set off down the road, completely lacking aim yet content with wandering. At her side danced her Smeargle, Koda. Koda had been Sybil’s closest Pokémon since she had turned sixteen. It was kind of a ‘sorry, we aren’t getting you a car, but here’s a friend’ sort of thing. Actually, the plan had worked pretty well at deflecting Sybil’s annoyance. Smeargles had been her favorite Pokémon since she was a girl, and she bonded quickly with Koda. He had an inexhaustible energy source, an aggressive protection over Sybil, and a sly sense of adventure while Sybil possessed caution, a slow temper, and a more dignified demeanor. What they had in common was their sense and appreciation of art, and they learned, eventually, to play off each other’s differences. Suddenly, the two were approached by a rather blunt trainer, still glistening from what she could only assume was a swim in the ocean. Sybil stopped short and pursed her lips, cocking her head a bit to the side as she examined her challenger. He was pretty straight forward, but Koda seemed to jump at the prospect. They had never had a battle before, but…. New experiences, right? “Yeah, I’m a trainer… but, I mean, right here?” Suddenly the caution was back. In her old neighborhood, battling in the street would be considered a ‘disturbance of the peace.’ Sybil didn’t want trouble on her first day here. “Maybe we should find a different spot…?” Sybil glanced the guy over again, a small smile tugging at her lips. She fiddled with the rim of her hat a moment as the twinkle subtly returned to her eye. He was cute. “...Somewhere secluded?” Edited by Sybil, Jun 13 2008, 05:06 PM.

"Don't worry, this is the beach," the guy replied, smiling at your worry. "Battles happen here all the time, especially between fishermen and the Pokémon that they catch," he added, pointing to the docks behind him. Indeed, people of all ages and genders were sitting there with their rods in the water, fishing. Now and again, they'd catch something. "Here's my pick," he said, releasing the Pokémon that was to battle you. With a burst of light, an Abra appeared. This one seemed a little feisty, and it gave a little "Bra" when it tensed up and saw your Smeargle. Lv. 5"This is Xin," the guy said proudly. "And I'm Miles. We're pleased to meet your acquaintance. So, are you ready?" You had the strange suspicion that he was going easy on you, but that wasn't really your place to judge. He had chosen his Pokémon, and now you had to deal with your limited amount of choice: one Pokémon. "Ready?" Miles said, playfully throwing Xin's Pokeball up and down in his hand. "You don't have to, but you look like a new trainer, and your Smeargle could probably use a level or two." So...To refuse, or not to refuse? (Lame, I know) |

Despite herself, Sybil shifted nervously and habitually rubbed the back of her neck, as she did whenever she had to think. But he seemed nice enough. Sybil looked over to the docks where he pointed and blinked a couple times. Huh. Reluctantly, Sybil nodded her head. “Ok… I guess you’re right.” And then suddenly she blushed and looked down at Koda so her hat would block the blush from view. It had just hit her how sheltered she had been-- she didn’t even know something this simple! It would be mortifying when she lost this battle, although she got the nagging feeling he was going easy on her. Charity-- uuughh, she was so sheltered! Sybil quickly straightened up and met Miles’ eye. Self-reliance was what Sybil was good at-- she wasn’t about to let this bother her. She’d learn… “Xin’s spirited, isn’t he?” She commented with a confidant smile-- faked, of course. “Nice to meet you, Miles. I’m Sybil, and this Koda.” Sybil motioned toward the Smeargle, whose tail paint matched the blue of her own eyes. Smeargle was dancing from foot to foot around the Abra, a somewhat dark excitement lighting his eyes. Sometimes you had to wonder about him… Nice, deep breath. “Yeah, I’m ready. Hahaha, you’re right about that, I’m sorry to admit… Koda does need some experience.” “Smear,” Koda glared and crossed his arms indignantly. “Well, it’s true. And I do too, of course.” Sybil shrugged and backed up a few steps. Don’t shake. There’s a first time for everything, and this would be her first, whether she won or lost. Koda braced himself for directions. The problem here was that the only move Koda knew was sketch, and Sybil wanted to save that for when they found a great move to copy. She was stuck with universal moves. Sybil held her wrist behind her back and thought. Smeargle was fast with good defense, but not offense (She knew this because of the hours she spent as a girl studying Smeargles), and she assumed that Xin would be fast. Sybil furrowed her brows. “Koda.. stay on your toes and use agility to avoid any attacks Xin attempts,” Hmmm... “Wait till he hesitates or slows for a moment, then use your speed for a tackle.” Here goes nothing. |

"Okay then...," Miles started, quickly cooking up a perfect way to counter your moves. "Xin, I want you to use a Defense Curl to harden up your skin a little, and then, when Koda moves in for a Tackle, I want you to counter it with Thunderpunch." Huh?! Here you were probably thinking that Miles was a genius until now...unless he wanted your Smeargle to get a decent Sketch attack in; after all, Thunderpunch was an Egg Move for Abra. Yet, both he and his Abra seemed rather intelligent. True, Abra slept eighteen hours a day, but that didn't mean that they were dumber than a doorknob. While Koda started rushing around to build up his speed, Xin curled his body up into a ball. His muscles were significantly tightening as Koda started to charge at him with a high-speed Tackle. At this point, Koda thought that Xin was just a sitting...ball, so he took the cocky road and forgot that Xin had another move under his belt. As the Smeargle cut in close, Xin quickly unrolled from a ball. His right fist started sparking with electricity, and he took a swing at the surprised Koda. As a result, your Smeargle went flying backward into the sand, dazed but otherwise unhurt. So...Ready for round two, or are you the type that gives up easily? Sybil tensed as the action unfolded. She had rashly thought that the only move Abra knew was teleport; the command to use thunderpunch completely blindsided her. With cold dread coiled in the pit of her stomach she watched as the Smeargle headed into the trap and was promptly thrown backward. Sybil’s mind completely blanked for a moment. This was the first time seeing Koda hit and it came as a shock. She feared for a moment she wouldn’t have the will to go on, but Koda already started dizzily to his feet. If it wasn’t for Koda’s growing interest in fighting, the future might have held the rank of Coordinator for Sybil, but as it were Sybil was headed firmly down the Trainer’s path. Slowly the wheels in Sybil’s mind started to work again and she took a breath, not realizing that she had been holding it. Using purely universal moves against an Abra and as smart a trainer as Miles probably would not cut it; at least, not with her lack of experience. Thunderpunch was a pretty nice move for a level five Pokémon… Sybil was stuck for a few important moments, wondering whether she should use Koda’s sketch move for Thunderpunch. What were the chances they would find something better any time soon? Aaagggh, there was too much chance involved. “Koda, sketch Thunderpunch!” Sybil commanded, the worry and dread that this was not a wise move growing in the back of her mind. Maybe…. Maybe she could teach Koda sketch again instead of waiting nearly six levels. It was possible, right? But anyway, the decision was made. “From now on, watch out for another thunderpunch attack; you still have the speed so try concentrating on dodging attacks...” She commented, trying to find a way out of these poor odds. Sybil disliked the fact that she was calling the moves first, giving Miles the chance to formulate a counter. Maybe there was a way to get around that; it would at least get one problem out of her way. “...And use growl to lower Xin’s defense.” Sybil finished, then quieted to watch what would happen next. Playing the defensive this round might give her the chance to find a weakness or at least plan out an attack. |

"Ah, so now you're catching on," Miles said playfully, giving you a small smile before giving Xin some new orders. "Okay Xin, if an offensive attack comes your way, I want you to use Teleport. If nothing harms you, use another Defense Curl to raise your defense further." He didn't tell the Abra to do anything else, oddly enough. Perhaps he liked you? First, Koda grabbed his tail (which now started to glow) and started Sketching whatever he remembered from the Thunderpunch on the ground. A formless fist with a bolt of electricity surrounding and shooting from it was drawn; the fist appeared to be Koda's. As soon as he was finished, his tail started glowing blindly; the fresh painting did the same. Then, the painting vanished, and your Smeargle's tail stopped glowing. This whole time, Xin had been waiting to use Teleport in case of an offensive move. As Koda moved forward to use Growl, Xin misinterpreted this action as an offensive move and Teleported a safe distance away, reappearing on a nearby tree branch. Therefore, the Growl attack did no harm whatsoever. Then, he used another Defense Curl to harden up his skin even more. Honestly, except for the Sketch, that round had been a little...*yawn*...boring. Yet, both of you could spice this up a bit; you knew that Miles could. Either he was toying with you, or he was taking it easy. If he was taking it easy, it was either because you were a new trainer, or he simply liked you. Personally, I'd try to make this more interesting. Lv. 5 27/35 77%(Speed +2) VS Lv. 5 35/35 84%(Defense +2) |

Well….. That hadn’t worked. But now at least Koda had thunderpunch. Sybil was still pretty calm and, despite herself, felt almost relieved that Miles was going easy. But that’s charity. There’s no dignity in that! …. Well, there’s no dignity in a crushing loss either. Hmm. Sybil ignored the conundrum; there was no time for that. Miles was cute, and it was really too bad that Sybil would never consider using herself to help win this battle… Ya know, distract him or something. Never would happen. But Sybil did return Miles’ smile; she would save her thoughts for later. Koda needed her concentration right now. Koda himself looked more than a little peeved. He was growling under his breath, eyes boring into Xin. The smeargle even began considering breaking off from Sybil’s directions to follow his own instincts. She just hadn’t acquired the aggression needed to give commands in battle. The fight had really sucked him in. Unlike Sybil, Koda was quick-tempered and tough; he might even do better if he followed his own head. But Sybil was so far still giving directions… Ok, so defense hadn’t worked. What now? Xin kept teleporting and using defense curl. How did he even know defense curl? Obviously Sybil had a lot to learn- she was seriously confused how the abra knew more than teleport and the global attacks… no joke. Sybil glanced quickly at her surroundings; what could she use to her advantage? There had to be something around here. As for right now, she could only give whatever commands came to mind. Xin was really too good at countering. “Koda.. keep on your toes but allow Xin to teleport wherever he wants- he’ll have to stop sometime… Wait till he goes to attack you, then dodge it and counter with thunderpunch. If he tries another defense curl, get a running start at him and hit him with a thunderpunch before he can get back up.” Heh. That should cover all the bases, right? I mean, Xin had to either attack or use that defense curl again… Sybil felt herself tense again while she waited to see what would happen. Her eyes were frozen on the scene, curious and enraptured. For a moment she tore her gaze away and looked at Miles, her lips slipping into another smile. An admiration started to grow at the back of her mind. She realized she wanted to learn how to battle like Miles obviously knew how. Again Sybil looked around- maybe there would be a good place for cover that Koda could use… or a sharp object. That would work too. |

Again, Miles returned your smile. God, what was up with him? "I see you're finally moving on the offensive. I think we'll do that as well. Xin, run at Koda with another Thunderpunch. When he least expects it, whack at him with a Tail Whip." The Abra nodded, his fists starting to crackle with electricity as he did so. Running at Koda, the Smeargle was only too happy to return this offensive move. Both Pokémon had voltage-inducing fists, and the look in their eyes as they glared at each other was pure hatred. Swinging at each other, the resulting collision of their fists ignited an electrical reaction. The result was a small explosion that fired both of them backward a few feet; Xin didn't have any time at all to use Tail Whip. Staggering upright, small sparks started to run across the Abra's body. In short, Koda had gotten off without paralysis, while Xin did not. Tough break there. Miles still retained his confidence, but you could sort of sense his displeasure at Xin receiving damage. Yet, he seemed to be going easy on you; for all you knew, he had killer Pokémon in his arsenal. Lv. 5 16/35 65%(Speed +2) VS Lv. 5 24/35 72%(Defense +2) (Paralyzed) |

Pure luck that Koda turned out to be a power-loving fighter. That’s what Sybil had going for her. The two Pokémon collided in an electrical explosion; Sybil’s hands flew to her mouth, but only for a moment before falling to her side again. Relief flooded through her as she realized her big break. Sybil glanced over at Miles, surprised that he went so easy on her. She wondered why that was- he was either sweet for going easy on a new trainer, or cute and interested in her. Unless there was a different reason, but she couldn’t imagine what that would be… Koda shook off the intense impact, the hatred in his eyes becoming pride at his success, despite the luck involved. He was really enjoying this While she thought, Sybil took off her hat and scrunched her hair with one hand. Blue eyes watched Miles thoughtfully for a moment. But there was a great opportunity at hand in the battle. Although Koda was worse for wear than Xin, he still had a chance here. Sybil’s smile brightened with confidence. But to win this, she had to think aggressively… Sybil chewed lightly on her lower lip, then nodded slowly to herself. Ok, only one thing to do… “Ok Koda, I think you know what to do…” Sybil started, “Take advantage of Xin’s paralysis. Use growl to lower his defense, then charge him and follow through with Thunderpunch... If he recovers, watch out for a surprise attack and just use thunderpunch when you find an opening.” Sybil shifted and put her hat back on, running a finger over the rim. It seemed that this would go smoothly, but it was best to remain prepared… |

As Xin struggled to move, Koda started off the round with a threatening Growl. This was enough to lower Xin's Attack for the time being, which may come in use for you. Still, Xin had a decent defense boost that would still bar your chances of damaging him. "Xin, when Koda moves in with another Thunderpunch, I want you to use Teleport," Miles ordered, a worried look filtering across his features. It was quite obvious that he was worried about his Pokémon. "Then, I want you to Teleport in with a Thunderpunch of your own." Xin struggled to use Teleport, and succeeded in doing so just in time. Yet, the Thunderpunch caused some damage when it came into contact with his tail. Appearing a short distance away, the Abra staggered in pain as his body went numb. At this point, your Smeargle moved for the punch...literally. An electrified fist hit the Abra with deadly precision as the Pokémon sat still, sending it skidding to a stop just inches from Miles feet. The other trainer's eyes widened a little, impressed with your mastership of Koda. Ready to finish it off? Lv. 5 16/35 50%(Speed +2) VS Lv. 5 8/35 55%(Defense +2) (Paralyzed) (Attack -1) |

Sybil inhaled sharply, ecstatic that it had worked and they were not losing anymore. The feeling died quickly though when she noticed Miles’ worry for his Pokémon; she could sympathize. For a moment her will failed her and she nearly called off Koda. She didn’t want to hurt the abra too bad and it looked in pain already from the paralysis. Sybil opened her mouth to tell Koda to hold off when she saw the impressed look in Miles’ eyes. She liked that…. But still… Koda’s shoulders shook in a little prideful chuckle when his attacks went through smoothly. He stood confidently with his hands on his waist, waiting for the order to come that he could finish the job… But after a silence that was a few moments too long, the Pokémon glanced, unsure, at his partner. If Sybil wasn’t going to give the command, then he would have to take things into his own hands… “Wait!” Sybil shouted, knowing the look in her Pokémon’s eyes. “Just wait. Koda, Xin is paralyzed and an easy target… Show some mercy.” Sybil rubbed her neck while she thought, unsure of her plans. Were they merciful enough? Or were they too merciful, to the point where Miles and Xin might have a comeback victory? Well, all Sybil knew was she wasn’t going to be a savage fighter. “Ok, Koda, you don’t need to charge this time. Just… one more thunderpunch. But not too hard. More like a thunderslap. But just enough so that…” Sybil realized she was rambling and promptly shut up, mortified to notice her cheeks had gone pink. “Well, you get it…” She finished, giving Koda an encouraging smile- encouraging him to restrain himself. Turns out the Smeargle wasn’t such a bad starter after all, even if Miles had gone easy on her… Although Sybil was already starting to think of searching for new additions. |

Worried for poor Xin? I think he'll be okay, but if you want to go easy on him, be my guest. Miles looked at you in awe. He seemed genuinely surprised that you would have so much mercy for his Pokémon even though you were in a freaking BATTLE! Shrugging it off, he told his Pokémon what to do. "Xin. Try your best to use Teleport. Move behind Koda and then use Thunder Punch. It'll hurt, I know, but do your best. Ok?" The Abra nodded its head weakly and watched Koda rush at it. Koda charged a Thunder Punch that looked a bit too strong from your point of view, but luckily it wouldn't hit. If you call that lucky. Xin managed to use Teleport at the last possible minute to disappear and reappear behind Koda. His Punch was no where near as strong as Koda's, but he managed to do some damage. So it looks like Xin had some fight left in him. Did you still want to go easy? Lv. 5 9/35 43%(Speed +2) VS Lv. 5 7/35 45%(Defense +2) (Paralyzed) (Attack -1) |

Sybil was shocked to see Xin teleport out of the way so fast. She had thought he was paralyzed, and by now she just wanted the battle to be over. Hands clasped behind her neck, Sybil observed the battle for a moment. She didn’t feel being merciful in a battle was a sign of weakness. She wasn’t the kind of person who was going to order her Pokémon to beat up another Pokémon heartlessly. There wasn't anything wrong with that, right? But Sybil knew she should probably end this now. Koda was completely pissed off. That wasn’t supposed to happen. The abra was freakin’ paralyzed. He got his footing and swung around, ready to finish this off whether or not Sybil ordered him to. And this time he wouldn’t stop for her. That obnoxious little abra wasn’t going to get away this time. Might as well give the command now, make it look like she had a choice in what Koda was going to do. “Don’t let that move throw you off, Koda. Use agility to catch Xin before he gets up the strength to teleport again, then use thunderpunch…” Sybil didn’t have to say anything for Koda to know he could use all his strength. Sybil stepped back, uncomfortably aware of how public they were. Her childhood taught her this was inappropriate, and she didn’t want too many people to witness Koda hurting the abra. Surprising she was going to be a trainer, huh? Well, give Koda some time and these battles might go a little differently… Edited by Sybil, Jun 18 2008, 03:00 PM.

"Don't give into the pressure, Xin. Teleport in with another Thunderpunch to finish off Xin," Miles ordered, his eyes narrowed. Like you, he wanted to see how the outcome of this battle would turn out. At this point, both Pokémon were moving rather sluggishly, unable to move at a full run. Koda was able to top his speed stat, but he still wasn't running as fast as you would expect him; the poor guy was getting pretty tired. Still, a fire of anger burned in your Smeargle's heart, and he needed to extinguish it soon. Xin's luck had, by this time, run out. The little guy tried to move, but his paralysis was kicking in. The psychic fox watched helplessly as Koda charged forward in slow motion, ready to deliver a fatal electrical punch...With a jolt, Xin drifted off into blessed unconsciousness as the attack hit him. The Abra was blasted back a few feet, skidding a little before resting in front of Miles. Looking a little speechless, you wondered how the other trainer would react. Oddly enough, a smile painted itself across Miles's features. "Well-fought," he said, smiling as he recalled Abra. Then, he moved forward to shake your hand before breaking away. "I better go heal Xin," he continued quietly, his well-built frame rippling as he walked away from you. "The Center's just up the road." Naturally, he had to be talking about the Pokémon Center. You'd better be heading there yourself to heal Koda. The Smeargle looked pretty tired and winded, although he wouldn't admit it to your face. As Miles left, you realized that he had placed $50 into your hand... Koda gained 50 and grew to Level 6!
