Here you stood in wayford, the light that reflected off the white buildings nearly blinding you as you stood on the streets, Trainers passed by you, either putting their hair in their eyes, putting shades on, covering their eyes, yeah, this town was known for its shinyness. Soon enough, a woman came up beside you and stared into the sky, covering the light from the buildings with her large... body-type.

Now, you had a proper chance to look about. And you could now see that there were trainers wandering about, either scoping out battles, or just happily walking through the city. Above you, multiple types of bird Pokémon soared, Starly and Staravia, Pidgey and Spearow, and even a Pidgeotto and a Fearow, though they were getting into a small brawl, so maybe that wasn't such a good example.

Suddenly, something started to gleam in the near distance, not like the buildings though, this time it was something gold, and when the thing turned its head you could see the scratch-cat Pokémon hurriedly darting through the streets with a chunk of meat in his mouth. "Meow!" The cat said, before a man came out, chasing her down the path with another club of meat in his hand.

:meowth Lv. 4 :Female

Maybe you should follow that Meowth? I dunno, its just a thought.

Ah, the thrill of starting an adventure. It had been a feeling that Kenneth had been waiting for years to feel, and his time had finally come. With a Pokémon in his possession, a Pokedex conveniently stored in his pocket, and three spare Pokeballs for catching Pokémon, the boy was really ready to begin the journey. As he looked around and took in the sights of the city for what would be the last time for a long time, he took in a deep breath and let it out. It was time to go.

Already, the boy was seeing plenty of nice Pokémon that he thought might look good in his team. Growing up, he'd never looked at them that way before. Pokémon were creatures he could learn about and/or interact with back then, but now he was seeing their value as companions and battle partners. The Flying types in the sky were most certainly quite appealing to him, and with an Electric type in his possession, catching one would be so much easier.

"Yeah. I'm goin' for it." Kenneth said, removing the Pokeball containing his new Pichu from his belt; however, he was distracted by a glint of gold before he could throw it. The glimmering object drew his attention to his left, where he noticed a Meowth carrying a piece of meat being chased by a man carrying a club of meat. He really wanted to catch one of the soaring birds, but the pride swelling in his chest as a result of the beginning of his journey had him feeling heroic. He gazed longingly up at the Pidgeotto fighting the Fearow, clenched his teeth, and thought, "Well, maybe it'll be softened up when I come back so I can go in for the capture." With this hope in mind, Kenny darted off after the man carrying the meat, still holding Pichu's Pokeball in his hand.

"Hey there!" Kenny called as he came up behind the meat-carrying man at a sprint. "What's goin' on?"

Hmm....Looks like you had a thieving Pokémon in your midst. Then again, crime was probably normal in all cities, especially perfect, picturesque Wayford. In this form, it was a Meowth that had stolen a hunk of meat.

Anyway, back to the meat-carrying man. Aroused by your call, he stopped for a moment and looked around. Eying you, he let the ham leg that he was using for a club drop against his shoulder, and practically yelled his situation out to you. "What's goin' on? WHAT'S GOIN' ON?!!" (here, flecks of spittle hit your face. Ew...) "That stupid cat's been stealing prime meats from my boss's restaurant for over a month! I've finally caught her doing it, but she's getting away!"

Now, wasn't this a pickle? It looked like this Meowth was a bit of a thief. However, now that you thought about it, she had looked a little wasted....Maybe there was more to this than meets the eye? Even though she was a cat, she didn't look like the thieving type...But looks can be deceiving.

"Tell ya what," the man said after a moment, his features softening a little. "If you catch that cat and bring the meat back (if possible), I'll give you a $50 reward. How's that sound to ya?"

Not a bad bargain, considering you'd get money out of the deal. But would you be doing the right thing? It was your decision.

As the man proceeded to berate him, Kenny slowly wiped the saliva from his face with the back of his hand, contorting his face into a disgusted expression as he did so. "Say it, don't spray it." He muttered under his breath after the yelling had ended. He then listened as the meat-wielding guy calmed down and gave him a proposition: catch the Meowth, get fifty bucks. The man's words brought a smirk to Kenny's face, as that was quite a good deal for someone just starting his Pokémon journey. Essentially, he was being payed to do something that he'd normally do for free.

Still in his somewhat heroic state of mind, the newbie trainer snapped to attention and saluted the meat man. "You can count on me, sir!" He said in a deep voice before turning and darting off after the Meowth. He came to a sudden halt when he was out of the eyesight of the big man, at which point he began stroking his chin with his hand. A question that he hadn't bothered to raise before was, "how do I find that Meowth?" There were no tracks to follow, seeing as the Pokémon had been running on the streets. Kenny didn't have any Pokémon that were particularly good at tracking scents either, so that was probably out of the question. So, one option remained.

"If I don't wanna be searching forever, I'll need a scout like that guy from 'Pokémon Adventures.'" Kenny said, remembering the tactics of one of his childhood idols. He then removed the first Pokeball from his belt and expanded it before tossing it into the air. "Pichu, let's move!" He exclaimed as the ball opened and released his first and only Pokémon. It appeared on the ground before him in the usual flash of white light, smiling and letting out a light-hearted cry, "Pi-Pi!"
Kenny thought himself fortunate to have happened to pick up an Electric-type starter in a town so populated with Bird- and Water-types. He pretty much had type advantage everywhere in the city.

"It's about time for our first battle together, Pichu. Look sharp!" Kenny advised, receiving a perhaps over-enthusiastic nod from his ally. He then looked into the air and aimed his Poketech upwards, scanning the sky for the Pokémon that he would target. The air had been full of birds before, so hopefully the selection would remain as wide. He was especially looking for that Pidgeotto from before, sure that it's battle with the Fearow would have softened it up for him.

Even though that man had been a little...rude, not to mention disgusting, the offer of $50 certainly registered well with your brain. Like it or not, money was one of the most essential things that people needed in life. A little extra pocket money would seem to set you just fine.

Now a little overconfident, you had given the grease-covered man the assurance that you'd find the cat. The problem was, how would you find it? Talking to the meat-wielding maniac had caused you to lose sight of the Meowth. Deciding to follow the example of a show that you idolized, you called out your loyal Pichu. It was definitely going to come in use for you.

Once you raised your Poketech into the air, invisible waves scanned the sky for some Pokémon and other what-not. After a few moments, there was a slight *ping* as the screen of your Poketech flashed, and pinpointed the locations of nearby Pokémon with miniature blips shaped like the pictures of certain Pokémon. Sort of like echolocation, really.

Sadly, your search could've been a little more fruitful. Besides the fact that a small group of Starly was flying overhead, and a Wingull that was perched on a nearby fire escape, your results could've been better. What had happened to the Fearow and the Pidgeotto from earlier? Perhaps they had belonged to trainers...

Suddenly, within the far reach of the radar (two blocks away), you caught sight on the screen of a Meowth with something in its mouth. By the image, it was disappearing into the top story of a nearby abandoned building, just off of a fire escape.

Well, instead of a bird, you had found the Meowth. Hopefully, you'd make it in time to apprehend it of her stolen meat and bring it back to Mr. Happy Ham-A-Lot.

"Starly...Starly...Wingull...Wait, wait, WAIT!...Oh. Starly."

Kenneth muttered to himself the names of the bird Pokémon as he spotted them, disappointed at the fact that the Pidgeotto was not appearing. Just where had that thing gotten to? If he couldn't find it, he was going to need to take one of the other Flying types. He was sure that a Pidgeotto would be better than any of those that had just appeared, but he needed a scout post-haste. So, preparing to accept this as truth, Kenny stopped looking for the Pidgeotto and started deciding which of the available birds he would take.

"Wait a second. That's no bird..." Kenny said as he looked at his Poketech's radar. His eyes widened as he realized that he might not be needing a scout after all. "That's the Meowth!" He exclaimed. "Change of plans, Pichu. We're goin' this way!" Without a second thought, the newbie trainer darted off with his Pokémon right next to him, following the signal to get to the Meowth. If his radar was reading properly, it wasn't very far off. He would reach it in mere moments if it just stayed where it was, and his reward would be secured.

"Here's the deal, Pichu." Said the boy as he ran alongside his Pokémon, deciding to brief his companion on the situation. "We got a Meowth stealing meat from some meat guy, and we've gotta catch it and get the meat back if we can. Do that, and we get a nice reward for our trouble. We're almost there, so get ready." With a determined smirk on its face, Pichu let out another cry, "Pi-chu!"
, in reply to his trainer. This was going to be their first battle together: a chance for each of them to see how the other operated. They were almost there...

Following the route to the Meowth on the radar screen was easier said than done. First of all, you had to run through a street that was a market. Naturally, this was packed with shoppers, trainers with Pokémon, and a variety of different aromas; some were sweet, and some smells were as sour as that of fish.

The rest of your small journey took you to a quieter part of Wayford, but this section was a sharp contrast to the clean city that you were used to seeing. Abandoned buildings were all around you (except for the occasional small business or tavern) and most of their openings were nailed shut by boards. Once in a while, you'd catch sight of a wild Pokémon or a bum. There were also piles of garbage and other types of refuse sitting in corners.

Finally, you sighted the building that you were looking for. Like the radar had shown, there was a fire escape on the north side of the dirty brick building. Despite its slightly rusted state, it was in pretty good shape to climb on. Some advice: Don't look down.

And, at the very top floor (the 12th floor, to be precise), You could see a couple of boards hanging loose at a window. No doubt that this had been where the female Meowth had entered with the piece of meat. In fact, she was probably up there enjoying it right now!

So...Ready for a bit of a climb?

After having run all the way to the source of the signal given off by the Meowth, Kenneth came to a halt and placed his hands upon his knees. He was breathing heavily, for it had been quite a sprint through quite a place. Why, oh why did this have to be happening during the busy part of the day? Getting through all those people had been a pain for both he and his companion, though seeing Pichu jump on top of a few heads on the way through had been amusing. He'd seen a few battles among novice trainers like himself, and even some trainers who were looking for opponents to test their new Pokémon on. Kenny had been tempted, but he kept his eyes on the prize. He was going to catch that Meowth.

The abandoned part of Wayford had a very creepy air about it. It wasn't totally foreign to the newbie trainer. He and his friends had gone into it a few times during their games; however, they never stayed for long, nor did they go in as far as Kenneth was going in then. He had never been aware that the dead part of the city was home to myriad wild Pokémon, and he didn't like the looks he had gotten from some of them. The bums unsettled him further, and the few shops he saw didn't look like any places he wanted to be in. "Hmph. If I'd known it was this bad, I would've asked for more money." Said Kenny after catching his breath and standing up straight. The chase was tedious, but it was almost over. All that was left was to scale the building.

"Up, Pichu." Kenny commanded, gesturing for his Pokémon to climb onto his shoulder. The small creature had gotten enough exercise for the time being, and it needed to conserve energy for the battle that was probably ahead of them. As the creature quickly climbed up onto his shoulder, Kenneth gave it a warning: "Stay alert. I've got a bad feeling about this place." Though the trainer was speaking specifically about the building in front of him, he'd had that feeling ever since he'd entered the darker side of Wayford City. The place just gave off that vibe. He walked around to the north side of the building where the fire escape was located, and his climb began. He'd be keeping a special eye on the windows, for he feared that there might be something dangerous just waiting to jump out at him. Kenneth Caphinom was not going to be caught off guard.

Your climb was rather uneventful, although there was a huge gust of wind once. The disturbance was enough to rock the old fire escape a little, but it was secure enough to not completely unsettle you. A smell of dung hit your nostrils, although that may have been from below. Perhaps you were near a sewage duct...But really, that didn't matter right now.

Finally, you reached the entrance that the female Meowth had taken. The boards that had fallen off had been large enough for the Meowth to squeeze past, and likewise you didn't have too much of a problem despite the fact that you were human. Your back scraped the boards as you clambered through, but you made it through safely.

Upright once more, you found yourself in a deserted old room. The only light filtered in through the window that you had just entered, and then through a few slats in a couple of other windows in the room. The wooden floor was a little creaky, and a few boards were upended. Better be careful here. White paint was peeling off of the walls, revealing the insulation and wood and plaster behind it.

Remembering why you were here, your attention was diverted to a slight scuffling in the farthest corner, opposite of an old door. It appeared as though there was a hole in the floorboards in that location. Considering the limited amount of light there was here, it was sort of hard to tell what it was....It was probably time to break out some sparks or something from your Pichu for a light source, or you could just give up on the whole thing.

A safe climb was quite a relief for the newbie trainer, who had been nervously awaiting a sudden roar or a sneak attack. It was too quiet in that place, and the heroes in the shows he watched were almost always attacked when it got too quiet. Once he'd reached the appropriate entrance, Pichu hopped off of his back and easily squeezed through before him. He then went through the opening himself, squinting as the boards scraped against his back. Good thing he was wearing a shirt, or he probably would've been scratched up a good bit.

After getting through the opening, Kenneth stumbled into the dusty, beat up room. He gazed around, but his eyes met mostly with darkness. He took a step forward in spite of this, but jumped backwards as soon as he heard the sound of something scurrying a little too close for comfort. "Okay, this ain't gonna work." He said. "I need some light, and I need it now." He began looking around for some source of light that he could rely on. Upon looking up at the ceiling, he was able to faintly see a lightbulb hanging from it. "Perfect." He said. "I just hope it still works."

Treading lightly on the rickety boards, Kenny slowly made his way over to the lightbulb and unscrewed. He then carried it back over to the window and handed it to his Pichu. He got onto one knee, held the lightbulb out to his Pokémon, and said, "You think you can keep this charged?" Without actually giving any sort of reply, Pichu took the bulb from her trainer. "Go easy, now. It shouldn't take a whole lot." Again, Pichu did not reply. It merely closed its eyes and began summoning electricity from its sacks. It channeled the energy into its hands, and from there into the bulb. If it put in too much, the pair might have a problem on their hands...

(GMing a bit with the light bulb, but since I'm in a lazy mood (and it's sort of minor), I'll let it slide. Just try not to do it again.)

Using the old light bulb that you had found on the ceiling, your Pichu started trying to channel her energy into it. She took it slowly, since she was trying to prevent the bulb from exploding in case she overloaded it. That, and electricity was known to "bounce back" on inexperienced Pichu. Finally, she was able to light the old bulb, and the light was just enough to observe your surroundings more clearly.

Except for the light bulb that you had found, the ceiling was bare. At least an inch of dust rested on the floor, except for where the Meowth had trodden....Many times, in fact. A path was practically worn in the dust, sometimes characterized by a Meowth track slightly off to the side. More than likely, this was her home.

Looking into the corner where the noise was coming from, a surprising sight met your eyes. The female Meowth had dropped the meat onto the ground; obviously, you couldn't return that prime cut now. However, little mews issued from the corner, and three young Meowth babies were happily chowing at the meat. Unlike their mother, they looked fairly well-fed, whereas she was skinny and slightly wasted. They were only half the size of their mother, and their eyes had just barely opened.

Suddenly, the mother noticed your presence and, since her children were done eating, ushered them down into a hole between the floorboards. The said hole must've been her den where she kept her babies, and it was just big enough for her to fit in. She glared at you in defiance, clearly wanting to protect her babies. It was obvious that you were to make the first move which would decide the situation.

So...Puzzled yet?

((My apologies, but it seemed to be either that or darkness since the sparks would have done little to nothing :( . Maybe if it knew Flash...Anyway, I'll be more careful next time.))

"Ooooookay. This complicates things." Said Kenneth as he stared down at the little Meowthlets. The meat was wasted, but that's not what he was concerned about. The existence of the three babies had thrown a wrench in his plan. He could easily have captured the Meowth and brought it back to the meat man without remorse before because it was a criminal that had to be brought to justice. But now, the criminal had a motive, and a good one at that. She was feeding her children. Who could blame her for that? Anyone with a heart would probably let the thing go, but the meat man was sure to be less lenient. In addition to that, Kenny wanted his money. He'd come too far to let go of it now.

The mother hid her children from Kenny and turned around to give him a rather threatening expression accompanied by a growl. Pichu responded in kind; though it was nowhere near as threatening in appearance, it at least assumed a battle-ready stance to let its trainer know that it was ready for a fight. Luckily, Kenny was possessed of decent mental acuity. If he played his cards right, and if the Meowth went along with it, he would be able to collect his cash and still come out a hero. "Ease up." He said, holding his hands up and speaking to both his own Pokémon and the one that was his adversary. "There's away for us all to come out of this all right if you'll just bear with me."

Kenneth proceeded to elaborate on a plan to earn his reward while allowing the Meowth and its children to go free. "That man you keep stealing meat from wants me to catch you, and I promised him I would do it. So, whether you'll come willingly or not, you will definitely be coming. But, he didn't ask me to give you to him or anything like that. So, as long as I show him that you're in my possession, he should be satisfied. If you'll just come with me and let me show you to him, I promise to bring you back here safe and sound. I'm gonna have to ask you not to steal from him or anyone near him anymore, though. If he finds you running around again, he'll probably do a lot worse than send a trainer after you."

As Kenny had said, he was going to capture the Meowth and bring it to the man one way or another. If Pichu had to fight it, he'd be cool with that; the Pokémon could use some experience. But, he would prefer not to have to resort to that. The plan was pretty solid, and the trainer was sure it would work unless that meat man turned out to be a lot more of a jerk than he thought. So, it was up to the Meowth now. Trust the trainer and go quietly, or take the hard route and suffer the wrath of Pichu.

Wow, did that sound unintimidating...

The Meowth cocked her head to the side a little, puzzling over your proposition. She was tired of this business with the man, who was constantly after her ever since he had first caught her filching meat. Perhaps this was a way out of her troubles, although she'd need to find a different food source. That wouldn't be too much of a problem for her.

Finally, she agreed to your plan with a nod, and then sat down on the floor. She rolled onto her back, and like any smart cat, she pretended that you had knocked her out. Apparently, she had some experience with acting, probably to beg for scraps like most cats do. Her eyes were even closed, and her breathing was labored.

As for her kittens, they'd be fine until she returned, unless something else didn't get in first. That seemed unlikely, but who knew? Maybe this whole building was infested with wild Pokémon, for all you knew. Perhaps it would be best if you did this quickly, and with caution. If you didn't quite comply to what Mr. Meaty wanted, you would be in trouble along with the Meowth.

Making up a capturing story was probably in order so that you could get your dough. Then you'd let the mom go free so that she could provide for her children once again. (In a different part of town, naturally) As you thought, the meat wielder from earlier probably won't be so lenient. Now you just had to pick her up in your arms and act as though you had subdued her or something.

Kenneth let out a sigh of relief after the Meowth had agreed to come with him. Pride swelled within his chest. This hero business wasn't all that hard. Hell, he was already saving kittens and outsmarting villains. Saving the world was the next natural step, right?...Well, maybe not. He had to start somewhere, though. So, going along with his plan, the trainer pulled one of the empty Pokeballs from his belt and enlarged it. "Just trust me." He said, cosidering the possibility that the Meowth may not have been expecting a Pokeball. "I'm going to release you as soon as all this is over. I give you my word." He then tossed the ball lightly at the Meowth with the intent of containing it in the ball.

Technically, this would be his first capture; however, he didn't wish to look at it like that. It wasn't much of a capture anyway, since the Meowth would only be pretending to be caught. He could have just carried it in his arms, but he thought it better this way. If he held it in his arms, then it would technically still be a Wild Meowth, and he would have no excuse to keep the man from taking it and doing with it as he pleased. If it was literally captured (the man hadn't been absolutely clear what he wanted when he'd said "catch that cat"), it would be "his," and the man would not be justified in taking it. For all he would know, the Meowth would be off with a trainer on some crazy adventure and out of his hair. So long as the Meowth didn't break out of the Pokeball, the plan would be foolproof.

The Meowth panicked a little as you threw the Pokeball at her, but she had committed her trust to you in order to provide for her kittens. She flinched a little, but she allowed the ball to suck her up. Then the Pokeball went through the classic shaking process, and then finally, it lay still at your feet.

Well, you had technically caught your first Pokémon, but she wouldn't really belong to you. By "catch the cat", you had assumed that the man didn't want to deal with the vermin anymore, so pretending to capture it had probably been the best idea that you had. The Meowth didn't fully appreciate this, but what choice did she really have? She was a cornered kitty, and she knew it.

Now all you had to do was make your way back to the meat-wielding man. That wouldn't be too hard, considering you had seen the restaurant that he had emerged from. What had it been called again? Oh yes, Lumiere's Pork Restaurant. A small white building, and a nice little establishment. Navigating your way through two blocks of people wouldn't be too much of a challenge, correct?

So...What were you waiting for? I'd certainly be ready to get out of that condemned structure, even though it was fairly strong for its age. The amount of dust would probably be enough to drive anyone out.
