Jeremy smiled as both of his younger Pokémon enjoyed their treats. They were looking a little stronger already, and he was glad. Hopefully the other Pokémon wouldn't have such a one-up on them now....That and the little guys had earned the candies. "Now you two need a rest," he said, returning both of them in double flashes of red light. These little guys would be very useful to him in the future in one way or another. Clarisse listened to his story quietly, and he was sure that she was replaying the events in her mind's eye. When he had finished his story, she had returned to messing with his arm. He started to protest many times, but let the words die in his throat. The Psyduck bandage, however, was almost too much. He'd have to remove that as soon as he possibly could to avoid being laughed at. Yet she kissed it after applying it, and it almost surprised him that daddy dearest hadn't went psycho. That seemed to be a good sign that this man of high power actually approved of him. Speaking of Clarisse's dad, Jeremy's observing eyes finally noticed that the man's eyes had flickered over to him and had gotten a good look. He could see it in the man's eyes that he was finally starting to notice the weird resemblance between them. One of those rare coincidences, right? That's what Jeremy had thought, anyway. Her dad's face started to pale, and Jeremy wished that he were a psychic at this point. What was going on? Something that he definitely wasn't aware of. The thing that happened next nearly robbed Jeremy of breath. The adult man opposite him performed a very similar and startling motion that involved him clutching the same shoulder that Jeremy had done, so many times, when he was reminded of his past. The tattoo, he suddenly thought, a slight realization flashing through his mind. What was going on here? "Hector, take Clarisse and the Pokémon out of here. I believe I need to speak with this young man," he said suddenly to the bodyguard, who gently began steering Clarisse towards the door. Clarisse started to protest, but the disturbed girl shut herself up and followed the bodyguard out of the room along with the Lotad and Oddish. "It seems we have some things to talk about, doesn't it?" the man known as Kevin Gunther stated, his voice losing some of its slightly intimidating boom. The look that he was giving Jeremy was so...haunted, almost. What in Arceus's name was going on here? Many things were running through Jeremy's mind. Despite the recent victory, that feeling felt like nothing compared to now. Thoughts of what to say were piling up by the thousands in his brain, until one finally forced its way out, almost by accident. "Who...or what...are you?" Simple as that, really. Nothing was here now, except this strange man who he had just met. Obviously there was a lot more to him than what first meets the eye. |

The man, Kevin Gunther, watched you with eyes that were most certainly his, but also reminded you of the eyes that you saw in the mirror. They were like your own, enough so that even looking at him sent chills down your spine. You didn't know what was going on, but from the pallor on this man's face, you knew it couldn't be good. The curse of the Marowak tattoo seemed to be involved in this, from Kevin's earlier motion, but in what way, you weren't certain. As the questions fell upon him, he did not answer right away. Instead, his eyes turned outward to the heavens, where the last remnants of the Cthoolhoo were disappearing, back into the night. As they faded, and the normal sky shown through once more, a sad smile appeared upon the man's face. "I don't have to look at your shoulder to know what's there, just as you don't have to look at mine," he said, mimicking your motion, both of them subconscious, as his free hand moved to the shoulder where the tattoo was imprinted. "We're two sides of the same coin, you and I. Two branches of the same tree." His words fell upon you, but made very little sense, as you still had no idea what was going on. Kevin then let out a small, frustrated laugh as he stared at his right hand, the one which had just been hiding the tattoo even more than his tailored suit had been. "So you're J, then?" he asked, looking at you with an amused expression. "I had expected more, as you're a step closer to the Origin than I am, but you're still young." The sad smile returned, and he beckoned you to sit down in one of the chairs that had survived the battle, as he did so himself. "The Marowak is an interesting creature," he said simply as he sat down, musing to himself. "It never shows its true face to another living creature, and always hides behind its mask. We take its mask to be the true face of the Pokémon, rather than what lies beneath. Why do you think that is, Jeremy?" he asks, but you can tell that there is far more to the question that what there seems to be on the surface. "Are we too afraid to look under that bone shell, to see the power that lies underneath? What is the creature hiding from the world? What is it that lies beneath the mask that it tries so hard to hide?" The man's monologue was beginning to make sense, in a very creepy, very unnatural sort of way. His metaphors, obscure though they were, were beginning to tie together, and take form into something more. It was both interesting...and terrifying. The portent of the man's words was hanging in the air, the proverbial elephant in the room. You had a vague notion, but still, the pivotal piece of the puzzle was still being held from you. But Kevin looked as if he were ready to speak again, and so you stilled your thoughts, for now. "Have you ever found it interesting how humans are the only living creature on the planet that are not Pokémon, Jeremy? There are some grasses and trees that are not...but everything else, everything capable of movement is a Pokémon. Why not humans? Are we really that far above the rest of the creatures? Machokes are stronger than we are, Kadabra are more intelligent. What makes humans superior? Are we perhaps just another type of Pokémon ourselves?" His eyes watched you for several more seconds before he looked away again. "I apologize. My words probably don't make sense to you, do they?" he asked, and judged your expression to mean no. He let out a sigh, as if not quite sure how to explain to you what was going on. Perhaps now would be a good time to ask some more specific questions, as the general one had just given him reign to give a confusing speech that was too full of metaphors to be clear. You were getting closer to understanding the truth...but there was something more to this whole situation. But what was it..? |

Jeremy continued to stare at the man known as Kevin Gunther...or was he? Everything in this situation seemed to have been flipped upside-down, inside-out, and every other way mentioned in the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Dep. Perhaps these were the answers that he had been waiting for, but did he really want to know them now that he had found a vital part of the picture, his picture? Kevin began speaking, but Jeremy understood only about half of it. "I don't have to look at your shoulder to know what's there, just as you don't have to look at mine," he began, both of them performing the unconscious motion again at the same time. "We're two sides of the same coin, you and I. Two branches of the same tree." Jeremy could only guess about this last sentence. This seemed to imply that they had the same origins, but how could he really be sure? He had been abandoned when he had been an infant at a church, after all. "So you're J, then?" Gunther continued. "I had expected more, as you're a step closer to the Origin than I am, but you're still young." Okay, what was all of that new hooblah about? Gunther then beckoned him to sit down in an intact chair. Jeremy decided to follow the command, even though he continued to watch the other male, curious and oddly wary. "The Marowak is an interesting creature," the other man mused. "It never shows its true face to another living creature, and always hides behind its mask. We take its mask to be the true face of the Pokémon, rather than what lies beneath. Why do you think that is, Jeremy? Are we too afraid to look under that bone shell, to see the power that lies underneath? What is the creature hiding from the world? What is it that lies beneath the mask that it tries so hard to hide?" Good reasoning, and a deep one, he had to admit. But where exactly was all of this heading? He was beginning to regret that blurted question....True, this was all interesting, mysterious, and definitely weird. Yet this monologue was making some sense to Jeremy's reasoning mind. He hadn't gotten good grades in school for nothing. Are we perhaps just another type of Pokémon ourselves?" As Gunther looked away, Jeremy realized that as a young child, he had wondered that many times. Were humans just a type of Pokémon, with no signs of extraordinary abilities over all others, yet they existed on this earth? I apologize. My words probably don't make sense to you, do they?" he said suddenly, obviously sighing at Jeremy's confused expression. Really, this kid didn't really blame him. That long speech had made some sense, yes, but Jeremy didn't really know where all of this was going. He would have to phrase his tirade of questions a little more carefully. "I suppose I'll go into a different direction...," he started, trying to reason with himself and the other man. Looking up at Gunther, his eyes boring into the other's, he began asking more questions. "Who or what am I? Do you know why I was abandoned? Why the tattoo...if it is one? What is this bigger picture that I seem to be a part of? I come from a decent adoptive family, yes, and I belong with them just fine. But the problem is, they aren't my biological family. Who are my biological parents?" Why...why...why..., the questions began flooding in Jeremy's mind even more, but he had just lain the most vital ones out. He had already assumed that somehow he was related by blood to the man sitting in front of him, but how? So many questions.... |

((I'm trying as hard as I can to keep this from being cliche, so if it sounds way too weird...my bad ^^; )) Kevin's eyes watched you as you struggled to absorb the information that he'd given you, and looked mildly surprised to see that you'd come out with as much as you had. It wasn't that he was intentionally being cryptic, it was more like he didn't want to come out and say whatever was happening, so as to let your mind slowly reach the solution on its own, rather than the information being dumped on all at once. Even too much wood could smother the fire, if it didn't have time to catch on to the smaller sticks. He regards your first question with thought. "I believe that you've already told me who you are, Jeremy. Who you are and who you are supposed to be are two different things. But if who you are supposed to be never existed, then why worry about it? As far as anyone knows, including yourself, you are Jeremy, and none other. Who you may have become under a different set of circumstances is just a Marowak with a different skull upon its face. You'd still be the same underneath it all, Jeremy. "But that doesn't quite give you the answer you want...so I'll try to be a tad more clear. But, in order to tell you who you are, I'll have to tell you a little story first. Once, many years ago, before Tohea had much in the way of any colonization, there was a man named Aaron. Aaron Gelvin. This man was like us, in a way. But he was far less civilized, and lived in the wild and off the land with his Pokémon friends. And, after a time, though he was but a human, he was able to learn from them, and legend states that he could launch fire from his throat, and call lightning down from the sky." Kevin pauses, taking a drink of wine, though you weren't entirely certain when he'd gotten it. "But time passed and Aaron eventually settled down with a wife, and had a son by the name of Bradley. Now, I'm going to assume that you're familiar enough with Pokémon to know about such things as Egg Moves, correct?" he asked, to which you nodded a reply. "Well...let's just say that the little guy had a few of those, right from the womb. Naturally, this caused a great deal of confusion and worry from the populace, as such a thing was not 'normal,' by conventional standards. "But time passed, and both terrified and ashamed of his ability, Brad hid them away, and did not access them for the rest of his life. Now, fast forward a few years. A scientist by the name of Fredrick Gallis, indirect descendant of Aaron and Brad, discovered his roots, and set upon a way of reviving those talents. No other human had ever displayed anything of the sort, and as a scientist, he wanted to try and reproduce what had happened with Aaron." Kevin paused for a moment, as if deciding whether or not he should continue. Eventually, he decided to, but you could tell it was getting more and more difficult for him to talk about. "Fredrick was something of a monster himself. He experimented upon himself and his children, searching for the answer to what had caused the human to be able to fight like a Pokémon. To assist him, he appointed several trustworthy others to help him with his research. And several generations later, with the research being carried out by others inducted into the organization, a child was born with the name of Ivan. "This boy, though not exactly what they wanted, showed the most promise, as placing him with fire-type Pokémon caused his natural temperature to rise several degrees, and fighting-type Pokémon allowed his muscles to grow faster than they should've. As usual, Ivan was merely the most successful of the children that came from his predecessor, Hugh. You see...in order to transfer the genes more cleanly...only the child with the most promise was allowed to survive." Pausing, Kevin poured himself another glass of the wine, his third. "After Ivan came Jonathan...and then me." He smiled strangely then, as it began to dawn on you that there was a step missing. Where did you come in? "And so things were continuing normally. Clarisse's elder brother, Lawrence, is the next in line of this tampering of human genetics. But while that should be where the story leaves off, something happened that none of us expected. Ivan, nearly seventy, gave his seed to another woman. And it took. A pair of twins were born to her, each holding more potential than Jonathan did. However, the more able of the two was selected to redefine the line of heirs. The other..." he trailed off for a moment, before continuing. "The other was deemed to be unfit, despite his ability, and was condemned to death at his young age. However, his mother, Llana, still rather young, knew that there would be no reasoning with the madmen and women who call themselves scientists...and so she took that child, and hid him somewhere in Sinnoh, from what I recall..." Jeremy listened to the whole drawn-out explanation with interest, the insides of his brain threatening to overflow with the gradual tirade of information. He shuddered a little at the fact that this weird experimental heritage involving what seemed to be his roots was a little insane...curiously so, but also brutal in its own way. His stomach dropped even further into an indescribable void as he realized that A. he had a twin, and B. he was supposed to die in the first place. And then what about his biological mother? She had committed what was seemingly a mistake, but she loved him enough to actually hide him away. Kevin's words still echoed inside his brain..."The other was deemed to be unfit, despite his ability, and was condemned to death at his young age. However, his mother, Llana, still rather young, knew that there would be no reasoning with the madmen and women who call themselves scientists...and so she took that child, and hid him somewhere in Sinnoh, from what I recall..." That child was...no, that child is he. He struggled to wrap his brain around all of this, as insane and as true as it sounded all at once.... Did he really have special powers of some sort? Was he maybe...a partial Pokémon beneath his human exterior? Was he even human? Here Jeremy inwardly started to question his genetics, his roots, his race....Were humans really Pokémon after all? It was really too much to take in for a normal person...but Jeremy wouldn't let this sort of thing get to him that easily. He wouldn't allow himself to become too unnerved by it. Another slight slap in the face was that this meant that he was related to Clarisse. Fairly distant, yes, but would that change the perspective of things about their possible relationship in Kevin's eyes? Maybe...or maybe not. Always before he had been eager for answers...he still was, but not so nearly as much. It all involved mad scientists, warped genetics, and a family that he didn't even know...his own family. "So then...Kevin...how does the Marowak skull fit into all of this? And do you think..." he paused for a moment, and then continued with his decision to speak further "that I can actually exhibit these abilities?" He waited semi-expectantly as his mind wandered, wondering if Clarisse was somehow eavesdropping...he wouldn't put it past her. |

((OOC: Okay, I'm going to try to do this, so bear with me. If it's absolutely horrible and you'd like me to be murdered for my attempts, please note that Shadow had threatened us all if we didn't ref you soon. Heh... um... so yeah. Hopefully this works!)) Kevin shook his head, thinking that since you had grasped this much thus far you would have realized what the tattoo had stood for. Seeing that you hadn't however, only showed him that there really was a lot that needed answering for you to fully comprehend everything. Not sure if this would answer your question, he decided to simply go more in depth with what you were. "The Marowak tattoo is simply a symbol created so that the scientists participating in this experiment would be able to track down any subjects that may have escaped. With this knowledge you must then realize that they are currently searching for you, and they will do anything in their power to get you. You are supposed to be an unfit experiment, and before you could possibly ruin it for them, they want to rid themselves of you. But you tell me, are you actually unfit, or this a predetermined judgment on the basis that there are two of you, and only one is needed to carry on the line?" He smiled a bit, and nodded, continuing on with his explanation. "See, they knew that you were different in one aspect, that being that you actually would carry on a life of your own. But if you did that, then they wouldn't be able to control you, and you could show yourself to the world before they could actually control you. This is an experiment that could earn themselves quite a large sum of money, and in the long run, they could try to alter your appearance genetically. You could possibly be made to look like a Pokémon, or rather, a Pokémon by our standards. However, with all this said, would you say that humans aren't a Pokémon? Or are we Pokémon that simply don't use our powers the way that they could be used?" With all of this said, can you fit your brain around all of this? Do you think that humans really are Pokémon? Or do you think that this whole talk is nothing but something created by Kevin to maybe gain some kind of control over you? I mean, who said that this guy actually knows what he's talking about? And if what he's saying is true, doesn't that mean that there are scientists right now trying to find you? You might have to be very careful from here on out, that is if you believe what he's saying is actually true. |

Jeremy once again listened with interest, his sagging brain still trying to comprehend. This was all so interesting, awkward, and slightly exciting...and dangerous. So this mark was more of a curse...they had come close to murdering him in Canalave at his foster family's home then, apparently. It was a good thing that he had left them; now they weren't under any direct fire from this insane organization. They wanted to kill him because he was unintentionally a renegade experiment, only because he was deemed "unfit" to carry on his genetics. And they wanted to kill him because he was worth a lot of money, and they didn't want exposure. Furthermore, he wasn't "controlled" by them at all. But what Kevin said seemed to be a predetermined judgment on the scientists' part. Somehow, he knew that he had just a right to live as well as anyone. What the said scientists were doing seemed pretty sick...and insanely twisted. No, he wouldn't expose his Pokémon to his dangers unless they could come to pass as well, and Jason...well, he'd use that new addition's worst powers if necessary. The altering of his appearance intrigued him...even though both he and Kevin were theorizing that humans were, in a sense, Pokémon, he wondered what it would be like to actually be one of the creatures. He could see both the positives and negatives of being a Pokémon...like saying only his own name, for example. Either way, he'd have to be very careful...insanely careful, anyway. His main plan right now was altered. He knew his family history now, where he came from, everything. The trick now was going through his Pokémon training in Tohea while staying alive. "I...think I understand," he finally was able to spit out to Kevin, still musing in his own mind. "If you have any way to hide the tattoo from others besides clothing, I'm all open for ideas. But how drastically does this change things with me and Clarisse?" He knew that he liked her in...well, the dating sense, but was that really appropriate anymore? "And...I'm assuming I can trust you?" He could fight his way out otherwise.... |

Kevin smiled, glad to see that you were being cautious, at least a little bit, even if you were simply asking him if you could trust him. Shrugging, he turned from you and looked at you showing you the tattoo printed on his own shoulder. It matched yours exactly, though you didn't have to see it to know that, and you wondered why he bothered showing it to you. "Do you really think I like being a prisoner of theirs? While I may have the small freedom of being able to walk where I wish, if ever they call me I must go wherever they tell me. They gave me a call yesterday and demanded that I go to them. Needless to say, I refused and so now I'm on the run, and I figured that if I joined you, we'd be safe together. You really shouldn't trust anybody, although your instincts should tell you whether or not I am a threat." He turned back to look at you and nodded towards the direction that Clarisse was in. "The relationship you share with her was forged before you ever knew this information. It wouldn't be fair to deny you any type of feelings you may have developed for her. However, it's up to you as to whether you should follow the supposed rules given by society. Either way, I think she has a right to know about this as well, don't you?" With that, he left you and had Clarisse go to you, who looked a bit worried, not knowing what exactly was going on. Not sure what to say, she just stared at you before speaking. "I heard... some of it. But I'm not sure I get it. What does it mean exactly?" Hah, that's a laugh. She's asking you what it all means when you still don't have an exact idea. But she's probably referring to any possible relationship you two may or may not have, whatever the case may be. |

(Sorry this took so long...I was trying to think up a reply and then forgot all about it. ^_^") Hmph, like Jeremy had any idea what was completely going on. It was like that old saying: get some questions answered, and many more pop up. This was all so clear...and yet confusing...all at the same time. He did want to date Clarisse, and yet...it wouldn't be quite right. If they were distantly related, maybe then it would work. But no, his foster family had brought him up to be the properly behaved little boy of innocence that he was...or tried to be. Sometimes that was a little hard. Anyway, he was running his own life now, right? But yet he loved his foster family.... "Clarisse...," he started to say, trying to thread his words together. How much of this tattoo stuff did she know about? Was she perhaps marked as well? She hadn't earlier...or at least pretended that she hadn't. "I'm not sure if you would understand everything that's going on between me and your dad right now. I'm not saying that we argued or anything, or that it would be too much for you to absorb..." It's too much for ME to absorb, anyway... "But maybe we should be careful about any relationships from now on. It could cause problems...more than we would need." He really hoped that she, slightly psychiatric as she was, wouldn't take this the wrong way. He really did like her...but was liking her in this certain sense right? He was also trying to protect her from the mess that he, and now her father, was in. Despite her slightly psycho attitude at times, he didn't want anything to happen to her, especially now since she seemed to be a part of his real family. But could he really trust her father? He didn't have anywhere or anyone else to go to at the moment, so maybe that would be a wise idea. If not, he had five Pokémon, didn't he? And Jason if he absolutely had to use the big guy and his...unusual talents. He hoped Kevin would come back soon, so that he could plan more on what he wanted to do. He could solo on his own, but Kevin obviously knew the movements of this organization better than he. He should trust him...for now. They could work together, try to break free of the chains of those scientific idiots who were only in on this crap for money. So much confusion, and yet...he thought he knew what he had to do. |

Clarisse stood there for a moment, her face shifting into different looks, finally settling on to one of depression. She bit her bottom lip, and it began to turn white from the pressure, and you could see tears start to fall from her eyes. Not wanting things to be any worse, she turned away from you and ran, and you heard her father say something. Whatever he had said must have worked somewhat, because she came back to you, though she looked bitter about it. After a moment of silence, she finally looked at you and you could see that there was serious pain in them. Obviously she wasn't taking this so well. "I don't understand why you're doing this. Something about a huge line of descendants carrying the traits of Pokémon and you're involved with that? Along with my father? But how closely related are we? We can't be that closely related." She started crying again, the tears coming out large and what seemed painful by the look on her face. "This isn't fair. Why should we have to put our feelings aside for some stupid experiment?" It seems that she was listening somewhat in on your coversation. Before you could answer though, you heard a voice shout something from outside, and when you went to look, you saw Kevin fighting some guy. There were no answers for questions about who this person was, but after what you had just been told, it was obvious who it was. Scientists must have decided to come after Kevin, and they've probably put together the fact that you're with him. You could try to sneak out another way, and Clarisse, who saw what was going on, led you to another exit. When you looked out, you saw that nobody had yet thought of going there, so if you want to escape through that, you should do so now. Another shout suggested that you didn't have too much time before Kevin was overpowered, as there were probably more people coming. The area outside was still cleared, and Clarisse decided that it was time you guys left. Dragging you out, she began to run with you, heading towards the route that would take you from this city to Tohea City. Maybe you'd be safer there, although you have to wonder if you'll actually be safe at all ever again. Running, it was so weird, as you didn't get half of the answers that you really needed, and weird that Clarisse was taking you out of the city. You would think that she'd want to be helping her father, but clearly she knew that that would be of no use. Right now you guys had to get out safely. |

Compassion flooded out of his heart like a raging river when Jeremy saw how Clarisse was taking things. Obviously she hadn't been brought up on the thing with relationships quite like he had, but he felt that their family tree was a little too close for a relationship. Meh, maybe they'd work something out. Then Kevin said something to her, and she came back in...Her words were ringed with confusion, anger, and a thousand other emotions that he couldn't quite put into words. "I don't understand why you're doing this. Something about a huge line of descendants carrying the traits of Pokémon and you're involved with that? Along with my father? But how closely related are we? We can't be that closely related." He winced here when she started crying again. God this was sick.... "This isn't fair. Why should we have to put our feelings aside for some stupid experiment?" Yeah, that pretty well confirmed that she had been listening in. He was about to open his mouth to answer, to untie all of this insanity the best that he could...until he heard a shout come from outside. His brain working quickly, he swiftly deducted that the stupid organization had already come after Kevin. If they found out that he was also in on the deal...he didn't want to think about it. Luckily Clarisse was able to make it to another exit, and then they made a break for it. He didn't know where they were going, but he at least followed her as she hopefully had a better idea of how the city was set up. By the general direction, he assumed that they were heading to the route to Tohea City. But still...he couldn't leave Kevin hanging like that. The man had been fairly kind enough to him already, and he didn't deserve a grisly fate. Those scientists, however....Reacting on instinct, he grabbed the Pokeball farthest along his belt and sent out Jason, who appeared in all of its hideous glory. Whether the creature was male or not, he didn't know...or care at the moment. Priority number one was taken care of, running to safety. Now time for priority number two. "Jason, do what you have to to save this man," he said, describing him to this new Pokémon the best that he could while running, the creature hovering in the air beside him on its massive wings. "Go all out, don't leave anything except that man intact. Try to save him. If you can't do that, at least try to report back." Hopefully, such an insane creature would listen to him. After all, he had never tried it out before, and he wondered how loose of a cannon such a parasitic beast was. Well, he was rather desperate. For now though, he concentrated on pumping his aching muscles towards the nearest Route. |

Since I've been reffing you for a little while and it appears that you know nothing about me, I think I should introduce myself. My name is Justin, though of course people only call me Dark, DS, or DarkSlayer if they want to be formal with my whole screenname. Knowing my real name, I'm assuming you have come to the conclusion that I am a male. Which means that now when you throw me cookies you can say him, and you'll know that you are correct! Oh, and speaking of cookies, may I say that they are DELIGHTFUL! And as entertaining as this may be, I'm going to go on a gamble and say that you're less interested in this than you are in what's going in with you in your journey. So let's get onto that shall we?! I see that you appear to be noble in wanting to save Kevin's life, although clearly you're not noble enough to go and physically help him. But I'm not here to criticize you on your decisions, but merely to tell you how well your decisions are carried out in you favor. Jason, which is the name of the crime lord boss guy I just got for the police in my own journey, popped out of his/her/its Pokeball. Well, to be perfectly honest it was probably more of a banged out of the Pokeball than popped. This thing is huge and probably would be more than capable of doing exactly what you had asked. Taking flight into the air, you saw that it flew directly in the direction you had commanded it to. It appears that for now it will listen to you, although you're afraid of what that might be. Frankly, I think it's hungry and by giving it those commands, it knows that i can have a good time eating at an all human buffet. Of course it knows better than to eat Kevin, so you have nothing to worry about there. As you finally made it to the route, you heard screams coming from the direction Jason had gone. Sirens sounded in the air, and you knew that it wouldn't be too long before police arrived on the scene. Only a few minutes after you guys had been on the route, Jason made it back to you, and you saw that it was in one piece. However, it didn't have Kevin with it, and you knew that Kevin must have died before Jason could save him. Seeing this, Clarisse bit her lip and shook her head, trying to keep tears from coming, trying to stop the first bout of remorse. After another few minutes, she stopped and collapsed to her knees, unable to hold the pain inside anymore. Tears streamed down her face, and unlike most Pokémon, Jason didn't even seem to notice, let alone care. Whatever that beast is, it's clearly not a Pokémon with a heart of gold, and I doubt you'll be able to change that. I think this is one Pokémon that for the most part is incapable of change when it comes to such things. Still on her knees, Clarisse looked up at you, and you saw that her face was flushed red, and her eyes were getting puffy. "Why is this happening to me? I'm a good person! I don't deserve this. First you tell me we can't be in a relationship, and now my father is killed over some stupid experiment?!" Turning away from you, she started to get back up, but found that she was still unable to support herself. Poor girl, she seems to be badly shaken up. What can you do? |

(Lulz, interesting info about you, Justin. I think I've seen you around previously, though) Jeremy mentally cursed when Jason came back empty-handed. Whatever the thing was, it had obviously tried to save Kevin, but the man had died somewhere along the line. He should have went with his Pokémon, but he felt as though the scientists shouldn't know about him being on the continent; Kevin wouldn't have wanted that. As it was, he was worried about the crying Clarisse, who like him was a sort of outcast and fugitive. This must be definitely rattling her, having such a perfect life of wealth taken away from her. Still, it made Jeremy's heart heavy to see Clarisse crying like that. He had no idea what sort of relationship she had with her father, but it appeared to not have been a bad one. He fleetingly wondered whether Clarisse had a mother, but he figured that this wasn't exactly the best situation to ask this sort of question. They had probably put enough ground between the former house now, which had already been partially ruined from the onslaught of Jason and his peers. Knowing that the heartless thing wouldn't make things any better, Jeremy recalled the squid-like thing. "Why is this happening to me? I'm a good person! I don't deserve this. First you tell me we can't be in a relationship, and now my father is killed over some stupid experiment?!" Ow, harsh. He wasn't quite sure if he would label her as "good", but she wasn't a bad person either. She did have a major problem going on. His heart ached for her, but what could he do? He couldn't resurrect the dead, but couldn't they at least...? Heck, this was way too confusing for his academic-oriented brain. Why didn't they give a course in school on how to deal with girls? Noticing that she was still unable to support herself, he walked over and tried to help her up, hoping that she didn't want to resist at this point. "We can't help your dad anymore. What's done is done," he said with his head bowed a little. "What we can do is get away from Wayford, go to neutral Tohea City. Both of us obviously need a change in scenery, even as friends." He hoped that she grasped the full meaning of those words. He didn't judge her as shallow at all. Either way, they had to put ground between Wayford for more horrible reasons than he cared to dwell on right now. Maybe he and Clarisse could obtain some new Pokémon while on Route 2, anyway. Tohea City seemed like a safe bet right now, so why not travel there? |

Yes, I even want to say that you've reffed my journey once before, although that was back months ago. I disappeared for a little while, but now I'm back and I think everyone can tell that I'm in no hurry to leave again. Speaking of disappearing, I know that there is something that your character hasn't yet gotten wind of. But not to worry, because I can come up with so many ways for people to find out information you'd think that I spent all day just learning how to do such things. Let me guarantee you, however, that that really is not the case, as I do have more important things to do I ensure you. Never the less, right now, Clarisse turned rigid on your words and glared up at you, clearly angry. She got up and didn't bother trying to look nice for you, and you can't help but wonder just how long it would be before you two got into a fight. "Well that is one interesting outlook on life, isn't it? What's done is done and there's nothing anyone can do to change it. Thanks for telling me something that is obvious enough to earn you the award below that of Darwin!" Okay, does she even know what she's talking about right now? "Let's just get to Tohea City and figure out what to do from there. At least then I'd be somewhere larger, so I wouldn't feel so enclosed like this." Not afraid to show how pissed she was at you, she glared at you again before turning around to lead the way to Tohea City. She must have some kind of internal spunk about her if she's willing to go about things on her own. But you followed her, and you looked around for wild Pokémon, hoping to be able to find some of those at least. However, after twenty minutes with no appearances, you can't help but wonder what has happened to all of the Pokémon. Just then, another trainer came up to you from up ahead and stopped you both, Clarisse looking at her curiously. "Hey, did you guys hear the news? If you're out here looking for wild Pokémon, you may as well give up now. They have become very hard to find, and a lot of them vanish right before your eyes! I just came from Tohea, and the news said that there aren't any explanations as of yet, but just that the rumors have been confirmed. Scientists are currently studying that right now." Clarisse's eyes widened upon the news of the scientists and she breathed a sigh of relief. Obviously she thought that if scientists were studying that, then you two would be safe for a long time. But do you think that's the case? Do you think that scientists who have studied your family line for generations would drop that study for this when there are hundreds of scientists already on it? I think that rings a little something for you, so you might want to explain to Clarisse why that isn't good. And perhaps challenge this new trainer to a battle to train up a little bit. You never know when you'll want stronger Pokémon after all. |

(I had a reply for this ages ago but then my internet decided to be screwy...) Clarisse obviously didn't care too much for Jeremy's sage wisdom that he had tried to impart. "Well that is one interesting outlook on life, isn't it? What's done is done and there's nothing anyone can do to change it. Thanks for telling me something that is obvious enough to earn you the award below that of Darwin!" Ouch. And she wanted to start dating, and possibly get married? What a household of turmoil it would be! "Let's just get to Tohea City and figure out what to do from there. At least then I'd be somewhere larger, so I wouldn't feel so enclosed like this." Wheeling around then, she started to lead the way to Tohea City, having obviously been there before. That or this was an easy Route to follow...but how was he supposed to know? At least they spent the next twenty minutes looking for a decent Pokémon to catch...but none appeared. That was strange; usually Jeremy hadn't had any problems finding Pokémon in this bountiful region before. In fact, he was thinking about sending out a search party with his own Pokémon until that train of thought was interrupted by the appearance of another female trainer. Scientists are currently studying that right now." Hmm...strange indeed, but nothing he could explain. If he supposedly had some unnatural powers involving Pokémon like Kevin had said, they wouldn't be of any help in such a situation. In fact, he didn't even know if he could use said abilities. Seeing Clarisse breathe a sigh of relief, he instantly guessed what was going through his potential girlfriend's mind. He highly doubted that most of the "normal" scientists and the ones that had taken up this odd experiment were one and the same. He didn't really know for sure...so many questions but so little answers. Kind of confusing really....Either way, the prospect of no Pokémon made him sigh in quiet frustration. "Right then...we have no prospect of catching Pokémon, so I suppose we should move on?" he directed at Clarisse, hoping not to fuel up her temper any further by dragging her somewhere that she didn't want to go. He even thought of letting her ride on Jason as either a land or air type of transportation, but he didn't think she'd appreciate that...or find it romantic. Jason also had no heart whatsoever...meh, he'd see what she wanted. The poor girl was traumatized enough as is. |
