(Updated when the fancy strikes us)
"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

This character was created alongside Ace65's Richard Sayre. The biographies (and subsequent journeys) are designed to be interwoven, so some things might only make sense if you read both.

Trainer Name: Izou Onryou
Trainer Gender: Male
Trainer Age: 15
Trainer Weight: 130 Pounds
Trainer Biography:
Onryou, often shortened to Ryou, was lucky enough to be born into loving and affluent suburban household, complete with isolated manor and all; his mother was a doctor, constantly rushing here and there with important cases, some that took her across the country, while his father was a lawyer, a man with a suit who could wield words like weapons and was called to battle out the toughest cases. Although they seemed a bit boring at times, what with their standard jobs and long hours, Ryou loved his parents back and had an ideal childhood, and they certainly regained some bonus points for having a family pokémon collection. As befitted their station, the family could afford even rare and powerful specimens, and Onryou’s parents had promised him a pokémon of his own some day, the descendent of their own stunning Flygon couple, beautiful specimens with a distinctive crimson streak along their bellies.

After ten years of stability, this happy world was rocked to the core when, one night, the Izou patriarch rushed into the house with his wife, his shirt torn and bloodied, and a red-stained knife in his hand. The “happy, normal couple” scarcely took the time to knock out the nanny before grabbing their son, hurriedly packing their most important possessions, and preparing to flee the house with no explanation other than that they had to run away from some “bad men”, and that once they got to another city, they’d be safe. Things didn’t work out like that. One of the “bad men” found them just before they could fly out of the house, and then things really hit the fan. The mysterious attacker, a confident-looking man dressed in worn jeans and a paint-spattered flannel shirt, brutally bombarded the couple with all manner of pokémon, demonstrating expertise, a high level of training, and a team to back it up. Even more impressive, the Izous were able to instantly toss their son into an adjacent room and ward off their foe, even within the close confines of the house, which obviously restricted them significantly. Peeking around the wall, Ryou saw everything. His father, with obscenely strong ground forces that tunneled, dug, and churned through the earth to strike with ground-tearing force, while his mother shaped the very battlefield, turning water into ice, and causing vines to sprout from the numerous tunnels to snatch at their foe.

At the moment of his parents’ apparent victory, as they bound up their opponent, Ryou ran out in joy and celebration, only to be grabbed from behind by one of the bad guy’s minions, a Primeape. Despite his pathetic efforts to break free, the child watched, enraptured and unable to turn away, as his parents were butchered, willingly, in exchange for his own life by an opponent who they had beaten fair and square. In the aftermath, the days before the neighbors, and then the police came to check, Ryou had time. Time to think about the man who had butchered his parents, time to go through his parents’ private journals, time to discover that his parents were both ex-military-elite and that father was an agent working for an organization which took it upon itself to…prune society, be it by political assassinations or cleaning up of some of the more…undesirable elements that the law couldn’t touch. Either way, it was this organization, “the Firm”, that got dirty work done to keep the world “clean”, and they didn’t take resignations too kindly. His parents, jaded and disenchanted, had been planning for months to escape, and had been discovered, mere days too early, leaving behind only a sizable life insurance check and the promised Flygon egg, which entered the world then to be welcomed by the corpses of its own parents and the rubble of a destroyed life.

Soon enough, Izou Onryou was, after a brief and mutually unhappy flirtation with the childcare system, adopted by an old family friend, apparently a war-buddy of his parents. Unlike the concerned guardians and psychologists at whom he had reacted so negatively before learning to lie, this man had absolutely no qualms with his driving motive: revenge. While he wouldn’t actively aid Ryou in his bloodthirsty cause, he knew well enough that sometimes, there are things that people need to do for themselves, even if it’s against their own best interests. And so, Ryou and his young companion, a baby Trapinch that, while far less impressive than its stunningly beautiful parents, carried both the crimson family trait and an overwhelming sense of loss and grief over its own loss.

Five years after the defining event found the last Izou, now fifteen years of age, packing up his belongings for an extended trip. His guardian didn’t even try to stop him, knowing that it was either this or having to deal with a runaway. The years had wrought changes in both the boy, almost a man now, and his Trapinch, named Senrei for how it had entered the world. The boy had grown into a hard-eyed, toned young man, a dagger usually somewhere on his body, and his accomplice had passed through the same forge. Using the long-since memorized and destroyed notes his parents had left behind, possibly in anticipation of their demise, possibly as intended leverage, and some key comments made during the fight, it wasn’t too hard to piece together some clues as to the identity of the killer. As for finding him, it was just a matter of lurking at the right places, fronts for the Firm, and was bound to turn up eventually. The next half year or so was wasted on fruitless monitoring and close calls while on surveillance duty, but sure enough, it was just a matter of time before it all paid off at a factory front the firm used. Like any other type of ant, Senrei had a great nose, and all the chemicals and oil the man was around carried a strong, distinctive smell, allowing the duo to unobtrusively trail him from afar.

Things were almost ruined when the man, Richard Sayre according to his mailbox, was revealed to have a family. Loathe to recreate his own experience, Onryou could find almost no time to strike when the man was alone, but luck, and conveniently placed mail receipts, was on Izou family’s side, for once; the monster was about to take an extended vacation, probably a front for yet another, leaving him open and available for months. After some hasty arrangements, the two finally came face to face on the ferry to some place called Tohea. The fight, however, was short and brutal. A single kid couldn’t possibly hope to take down a trained, elite assassin in a face-to-face battle. The next few weeks saw regular repeats of the incident, each time leaving both Ryou and his Pokémon more battered and bruised, and Richard clean, uninjured, and not even sweating. After about the fifth time, Ryou and his challenges couldn’t even elicit a response, as the coward simply refused to fight him; after all, how could the Izou avenge his family and kill him in a fair fight, just as his parents would have if Richard hadn’t cheated, if the man wouldn’t even fight back?

There is almost nothing more humiliating than consistently losing in the fight that your entire life has been oriented around. Almost. Having to earn fights with said opponent by doing chores, tasks, and menial labor for them, now that is absolute disgrace. Gradually, the opportunities became rarer and rarer, while Ryou was still far from victory, and growing increasingly desperate. Soon enough, the boat would be arriving, and once in this new place, this Tohea, Richard would become an impossible target. Tailing a man unawares in a crowded region isn’t particularly hard. Following a skilled professional murderer wherever he goes in unfamiliar, possibly unpopulated terrain when he’s aware of the pursuit…that is true futility. One second of separation, and he’d lose not just all that he’d been working for, but even the advantages he’d had at square one. It was then that this Richard, who now for some reason considered himself on casual speaking terms with Ryou, the boy whose life he had ruined, made a bizarre proposal, that Izou Onryou travel with him and work as his aide, helping with various tasks and in possibly dangerous situations. In exchange, the Izou could freely follow him and would receive occasional opportunities to battle his constant, eternal tormentor. Although the teenager initially rejected this notion with violent, venomous vehemence, he soon came to see that it really was his only chance to fulfill his one true, eternal goal, to achieve the feat that had given his life meaning through years of suffering and remorse. His opponent was offering him his chance on a silver platter; as time went by, it was inevitable that he would win at least one, and traveling with someone who promised dangerous work ensured that he would get stronger, strong enough to finally reach out and complete his duty with his own hands, and all he had to do in exchange was suffer through some blatant exploitation and the loss of some face. Added to that, Richard brought up the ever-present risk that he might die before Ryou could kill him, something that the Izou would have to take great pains to prevent. In a choice between his family, his very parents, and a little bit of pride, there really was no decision to be made. And so the two enemies, companions and yet still mortal foes, departed together, travel together, and work together, much like a family, or very good friends…except for the part about the hate and the killing.

With a slim and supple physique that he inherited from his parents, and a the toned absolute lack of fat that tells of the life he's lived since their deaths, Onryou is a striking and uncommon fifteen-year-old. This, coupled with his somewhat half-hazard sandy-blond hair shows a clear set of priorities that does not include niceties and stylists. However, the most telling story lies in his face; although his features appear somewhat delicate and refined, they are fiercely contrasted by hard-edged eyes that leave no doubt as to exactly how important his goals are to him and whether he can be taken seriously.

Starter Town: Kadaraa
Starter Pokémon: Female Trapinch (Senrei)
Sample RP:
“Fight me, damn it!”, a cry rang out, carrying across the empty ocean. “Fight me like a man, you filthy cheater!” The source, a young man, hardly more than a boy, stood on the main deck of a large ferry, shouting emotionally at the back of a much larger, impassive, emotionless figure lounging about in a large chair. While the young man was battered and bruised with both eyes blackened and his body covered in hardly-healed scabs which were visible underneath his tattered clothing, the man was immaculately clean and entirely un-phased.

With a sudden explosion of light, the boy released his pokémon, a short, stubby-limbed ant-creature with a noticeable crimson streak across its belly. The pokémon, like its master, had clearly taken many, many beatings in rapid succession, but was showing no less spirit. With a shared snarl of frustration, the teenager flicked his arm and produced a very functional dagger, throwing himself alongside his pokémon at his stony foe in a blur of motion. Mere feet away, both skidded to a halt when it became apparent that they had provoked no movement, not even a flinch. “You filthy cheater”, the rapidly deflating kid meekly accused, his energy sapped and his inspiration seemingly gone. “Why won’t you fight me?”, he asked, defeated.

For the first time in a long time, his opponent actually acknowledged his efforts, scratching his chin contemplatively, before saying in a deep, casual, and thoroughly unconcerned tone: “Maybe if you get me some water first, I'm terribly thirsty."

Great Job!

Your profile has been approved. This means you don't need to make any further changes, and what you've done is acceptable for use in Tohea.

Before you can FULLY begin your journey, however, you need to answer these four questions. If you get them all correct, you will be admitted into the RPG. Otherwise, you will be asked another four questions. Be sure to read the rules to find the answers, as you should have done already.

[X] To what extent may you control what you see, in this RPG?
[X] Is Tohea officially rated G, PG, PG 13, NC17 or R?
[X] Do Trainer's have Pokémon food at the start of their journey?
[X] Does the Pokémon a trainer was using gain experience when they catch the Pokémon they were battling?

Thank you,

Tohea RPG Staff

1) We're allowed to see "normal, commonplace, standard" sights that do not relate directly to our journey and our team. Basically, anything that wouldn't be considered special and doesn't affect us is fine. I believe, to quote the examples, that means describing other trainers going about their day is great. Describing Pokémon popping up and attacking us, legendaries doing anything, or self-spawning trainers to fight is against the rules. Really, it's just a common sense boundary to not describe anything that could possibly alter your story (domain of the refs) while still providing day-to-day fluff, introspection, and details to make your journey more readable. Oh yeah, and we can occasionally (following the spawnage rules) spawn commonplace pokes for us to interact with.

2) PG-13

3) You're assumed to have the basics, including food for humans and pokémon, in your backpack at all times, unless explicitly told otherwise for some reason. And clothing. This is a PG-13 site, after all. And a map and a pokedex.

4) Yes, but it's halved. Or zero-ed if you use persuasive skills.

Your profile has been approved and you answered all the questions correctly. Please wait as your profile, journey, and mask are set up. This may take some time, so visit the OOC Boards and/or post away within the Cbox. If you can't see the RPG areas just yet, please be patient.

Thank you,

I believe once Ace is done, a tag-team journey start will be needed for these two
