First off, we have some QUESTS. You, lucky little bastard that you are, get to design four (4) quests for four different characters. Keep them interesting and innovative as much as possible, and don't forget to do all the sections of a quest: overall quest, hardships, rewards, and/or whatever else you can think up. Keep in mind that when I say "design a quest," I mean "design a good quest with the outline being about a paragraph long."

-Ash Ketchum

-Ronald McDonald

Ash Ketchum

You failed in the Kanto region. You failed in Johto, the Orange islands, Hoenn, and now you participate yet again in another Pokémon league in the hopes of being a “Pokémon master”. You still haven’t given up after all that? Well, on to your next attempt in the Sinnoh region, I guess. Traveling through another forest path like you always do, your friend Brock decides to stop here for the evening.

Temperature falling and all, Brock cooks a very delectable stew and serves it to everyone around the campfire you set up which was rising farther into the sky. Before you could even take a whiff of your dinner, the gang hears a faint trotting becoming louder and heavier. Dawn takes out her pokedex in hopes for an undiscovered Pokémon to add to her pokedex reference, while you and your Pikachu get ready to defend your bowls of soup.

Coming from all directions, rabid Houndours surrounds you and didn’t seem much in the mood to negotiate for dinner. If you were going to dine tonight, make it snappy. More of the crazed demon canines were approaching. Fight, unless you were about to be a welcome host and let the dogs feast on your flesh.

Quest Design:
Journey Battle

Outcomes:
1. If Ash battles all the Houndours and win, his Pokémon will have a dramatic boost of EXP and will be able to catch some if he desires.
Ash's allies:
:pikachu
:aipom
:turtwig
:piplup
:buneary
Enemy:
Lv 8-11 (rabid) :houndour x13
2. He lets them eat all their food and lose most of the teams essentials from the Houndours ripping the entire camp as the team chooses what to do next.
3. Run away quickly and hope for the best.

Hardship(s):
Defeating 13 Houndours without losing all provisions including dinner.

Ronald McDonald

The life you have started used to be so wonderful, but now it’s just another bland ritual that must be done everyday of the week to keep alive. Slumping back in your car, you arrive at one of your McDonalds fast food chains in Minnesota, trying to keep a happy face of a red and white-faced clown. Entering through the front door, you see that everyone was hiding under their tables or screaming maniacally through the restaurant. You thought that you weren’t that ugly and kept moving forward into the staff room.

Before you actually go in, you happen to see a black box at the other end of the place. You dashed inside and asked the manager what’s going on. He answered hesitantly, “There’s a bomb in the facility! We called a bomb squad, but I’m afraid they won’t make it in time! Ronald! You’re the only one of us that can diffuse this bomb, knowing that even if you die, you wouldn’t care. I’ll evacuate everyone into the streets, and you figure out which wire to cut,” the manager hands you some tweezers and said, “best of luck, son. You have 5 minutes to decide.”

Five minutes huh? Well that’s just enough time to think of what would be better. To die and to escape from this planet, or stay and be a hero. Can’t actually decide though, since whichever wire you cut will determine the rest of your existence. So the real question is a pretty classy one: blue or red?

Quest Design:
Life/Death

Outcomes
1. Ronald chooses the correct wire and saves an entire facility with a promotion and a raise in status and profit.
2. Ronald chooses the wrong wire and dies while destroying a building.
3. Run away quickly and hope for the best.

Hardships(s):
Choosing the correct wire. (There’s no good or bad answer. He’ll be happy with either.)

Izumi Hikaru

Impressive; in just 4 months you’ve gained two badges and a complete team of level 30 Pokémon! You should still understand not to get too overconfident, ok? One-day worth of hard training, the next day filled with appointments and chaos of sick and dying humans as well as Pokémon is what you have to deal with now. You couldn't say that Riverwood wasn't full of crime waves and violence, but there was an unusual swarm of mayhem in the city that was having worried people coming through your doors with a wounded creature in their hands or limping behind them.

You were the only professional doctor there since all of them were on rescue missions while most of the nurses were retrieving supplies. Fortunately, there was a special loading packages with pokeballs containing medical-trained Blisseys sent from the Johto region from yesterday in your aide, so you were able to finish every single problem by suppertime. Pretty exhausting day, huh? Sure, one or two Pokémon died, but those Pokémon were quite old. Things would've been more relaxing if another injured creature didn't just come barging in.

The only thing that made this one different from your other clients was that this one didn't have an owner with it. Instead, there was a giant spear on its arm and a demonic poacher with a Mightyena following it with burning red eyes (not literally). The attacked Pokémon was a bleeding Wartortle and it fell forward right in front of you while the poacher and his dog was still running towards it (you). Good thing you needn't worry about the poacher. All the nurses and the Blissey will hold him back, while you have to get this wounded fella into the ER, stat! Hurry, the blood was gushing out much faster, and that poacher was taking down the blockade pretty quickly.

Quest Design:
Job Performance

Outcomes:
1. She's able to save the Wartortle's life and knocks out the poacher with her Machoke.
2. Izumi doesn't save the Wartortle fast enough and it dies, but she still has time to kill the poacher.
(Poacher doesn't kill her since his only target was the Wartortle, but he gets arrested anyways.)
3. Run away quickly and hope for the best. (Running away is a real smart and unrisky method)

Hardships(s):
Revive the Wartortle and not let the poacher kill it.

Kramer Ottosen

Another person to fill this wasteland, eh? If you're going to be a benefactor here in Tohea, you might as well go scavenging for jobs or wanted ads, just to get some bucks. Maybe take a few steps off the boat so that $1000 ticket wasn't going to be a waste. Look at the scenery, take a smell of the town, take note of everything, and you'll already have all you need to know about Ayer. Since you found which port your in according to your map, I'm guessing you want to find a job for that leather wallet of yours. March around for a few seconds and there should be about 37 "have you seen this" whatever posters with decent rewards.

Maybe it was the very dullness around you, but you took one of the posters to see what prizes are given. HOLY BUCKETS! A $10,000 reward just for defeating some Pokémon! Are you sure the Pokémon isn't a veracious assassin? Maybe you should read the rest before jumping into a grave pit. As I said, the reward must fit the request. The job is to capture or negotiate with a rampaging Claydol. Isn't Claydol that Pokémon with unbelievably invincible fortress? It doesn't say you needed to kill it or nothing, just to calm it down at the least so authorities can capture it.

The Claydol is currently near Ayer in Route 1 creating massive havoc on both land and sea. Your Gastly might be able to weaken it with Hypnosis, but to get that close to it is pretty risky. You could always abandon this request and move on to another one, but you might just score $10,000 if you succeed! I'll grab a soda while you think.

Quest Design
Journey Opener/Random Job

Outcomes:
1. Kramer decides to Route 1 and battles the Claydol with the police who are currently there. He'll either get his ass whooped or win $10,000 depending on if his Gastly misses or not.
:claydol
Lv37 :male
2. Kramer throws the poster on the ground and moves on.

Hardships(s):
To decide what to do. If he does go to battle Claydol, then he would have to have his Gastly come up close and do a perfect Hypnosis on it and make it sleep.

{I know. The last one I had to think too much. Very sorry}

Everything was great, except for your description of Claydol. As I remember it, veracity is honesty. Perhaps you meant viciousness? Anyways, the quests themselves are great, so moving on.

Next up, damage. Tohea's damage starts fairly simple; for a basic attack, divide the move's base power (serebii.net is EXTREMELY useful) by four; say, Tackle (pre-D/P) had 40 base power, so it'd do roughly 10 base damage here. Note the excessive use of "base" and "generally;" we recognize there are about 9 quintillion different things that could be happening to influence the attack. Since you're going to be staff, you'd damn well better be able to use them, too - hence, a (non comprehensive) list. Note that all multipliers... well, multiply. A weather bonus on top of STAB and SE would end up as a whopping 6x total damage, devastating the opponent.

-STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus. 1.5x damage if pure-type, 1.25 if dual)
-SE (Super Effective, 2x damage)
-UE (Ultra Effective, 4x damage. Only applicable on dual-type targets)
-NVE (Not Very Effective, 0.5x damage)
-Weather (if the weather corresponds to the move's type, 1.5x damage)
-Agility (Agility's effect on physical attacks is generally minor, but potentially devastating if used effectively)
-Level difference (completely up to the ref, though I personally tend to add 1-3 damage per level, based on the attack's base power)
-Species characteristics (Aggron is almost impossible to physically damage due to unpossibly hard exterior; Hoppip is held together by fluff and suck)
-Various other stuff, depending on the situation. A downwards Tackle, assisted by gravity's effect, would do more damage than a horizontal one.

Keeping all that fun stuffs in mind, have at you with some damage scenarios. All you have to do is figure out roughly how much damage the defending Pokémon (and the attacking Pokémon, if applicable) will take.

Tackle is 35 in D/P instead of the 40 it's always been, but otherwise you did well. Might take level difference into account first though, though that would really only matter for multi-hit attacks (Icicle Spear) that are sorta overpowered otherwise.

Now, battling. Tohea's battle system can be difficult for those without a fair amount of practice, but that's what mod training is here for! For starters, being the ref is a bit different than being reffed in a battle; it depends on the individual ref, but you'll have to decide how the battle went in your head, stacking up the player's strategy against that of an average five year old. In theory it shouldn't be too hard, but there does seem to be a fair amount of "LOL TACKLE ATTACK." So much for faith in humanity.

Uh, right, enough depressing speeches. So, to see if you know the basics of reffing battles, We'll give you a few scenarios, and see how you do. Note that there are no "right" and "wrong" ways for each scenario to play out, though major level differences, unless mitigated by flawless strategy, are generally lethal. Player or not, a level 5 Pokémon will usually lose to a level 12 based on the major experience difference. Smaller differences, such as a one or two level disparity, is far more dependent on strategy, though the higher level will still have a minor advantage.

The first one of these pairs is the person for whom you're reffing. Follow the attacks ordered or planned below each one, and choosing for yourself how the other reacts/battles, where no order/expectation is applicable. Now, keeping in mind the last section of training, let's see how this goes!

:poochyena level 5 versus wild, rabid :mankey level 6

Poochyena is ordered by its trainer to use an Agility + Agility + Tackle combination

:oddish level 12 versus trainer's :geodude level 16, in Sunny weather

Oddish has been ordered to use Solarbeam x2, whilst Geodude should Mud Sport to hide, then Rollout

:charmander level 5 versus wild :abra level 5

Wild Pokémon RPer, using Scratch twice

================
Poochyena vs. Mankey
================

Not to get into your hair or anything, but maybe you should’ve paid more attention when that baboon was facing the other way. Maybe you could’ve made an effective sneak attack on it, but as long as there’s a battle, you’re happy right? Take of note the calm and mild face on the Mankey compared to your slobber-crazed mutt. That dog of yours has to learn some manners before a taking part in a battle. Maybe this outrageous behavior could be a good thing when you’re battling? So then you commanded your Poochyena to use a single Agility and complete this task for further orders.

Your Poochyena dashed like a silver bullet, closing in on the Mankey with his gray fur flowing smoothly. The monkey extended its claws in a flash, anticipating your dog’s next attack. But you had another scheme in mind, and smirked, “Dodge right and use Agility. Strike it head on with Tackle!” Your Poochyena took on the same smirk you had and obeyed loyally. By dodging at great speed, Mankey’s claws just missed by a few centimeters, right by Poochyenas neck. Bewildered, the Mankey started to hesitate, and with a sudden whooshing sound to its left, Mankey was overthrown brutally into a nearby bush.

Your partner started to howl joyfully at success, but you were still skeptical about what just happened. Didn’t seem clear how such a ready-mannered Mankey would just get hit like that. You were right to be cautious, because that Mankey just walked out of the bushes almost looking unharmed and upright. Looks like it was only hustling you, trying to lower your guard and strike back with much, much more force. Maybe you should call back your Pokémon now, cause that thing is creating it’s own slobber that doesn’t even look appropriate for a normal monkey.

==============
Oddish vs. Geodude
==============
It was such a relevant day for you wasn’t it? The sun was out, your Oddish was in top physical condition, and you were battling a high level Geodude. Figuring it was perfectly easy to beat it, you went along and gave it a try. The Geodude knew what it was about to go up against, and anticipated that your Oddish was about to leash out a Solarbeam. The Geodude threw thick mud on itself for protection and started rolling towards your Oddish, splashing all that dirt everywhere.

And whatever it was that triggered it (maybe common sense), your Oddish took in sunlight, and shot it out with a pang headed directly at the rolling Geodude. Since it was able to feel the ground shaking from the beams blast, it used instincts to bounce above the ray, spinned, and collided with Oddish hard from above, somehow being able to get past Oddish’s Chlorophyll. All the mud that was covering Geodude stained onto Oddish’s eyes on contact, and your Oddish is now wandering around trying to get the mud off. The Geodude bounced backwards 5 feet, unharmed from any damage.

This Geodude was much faster and stronger than most wild ones, isn’t it? I think you should make a snappy command, or you’ll be unprotected from a hurling rock. It sloshed in the mud again and was about ready to flatten that used to be freely glee Oddish into a spoiled vegetable. Take into consideration that the Rollout is still in effect, so maybe you should run while you can before you’ll be part of the earth’s fertilizer.

===============
Charmander vs. Abra
===============
You might’ve thought that your stroll along the shores of Kyd Lake would be quite soothing, and it was. Only problem was that some jerk just tumbled onto you out from behind. Didn’t look as if he purposely did it, but you were bored and had to do something, no? Don’t be stupid, though. An Abra is not someone to mess around hastily with. Any close range attacks might not do much since the guy’s going to use Teleport a lot. Finally, you make up your mind and go for an attempt.

You charged at it with those tiny legs, and pounced at the Abra. But instead of hitting the thing, you stopped. The Abra knew that you were going to halt, but its force of habit made it Teleport, just like you planned. You waited for it to appear, and out of the corner of your eye you saw a blurry yellow thing about to appear and you were able to slash it first with a searing Scratch attack. In likes of a striking blow, the yellow fox stared blankly into the sky, flying through the air and landing on its feet.

The Abra was shocked, and now enraged at what he has let into his dignity by a salamander. Take note of what’s happening next, because the fox has disappeared again, and doesn’t seem to be the least bit scared either. Think quickly, because since you were able to hit a Pokémon of a higher caliber than you (I suppose), it isn’t going to take it as a first offense.

A couple issues...

Quote:

Didn’t look as if he purposely done it,
should have been "did",
Quote:

Take note the calm and mild face
should have had an "of" between "take" and "note", "Geodude" is always capitalized (proper noun), and
Quote:

since the guys going to use teleport a lot.
has two major issues; you should use an apostrophe (guy's) to denote ownership, and Teleport should be capitalized there.

That's not all the problems, but its most of them. Fix those and whatever else you can find, and tell me when you finish.

You still missed a number of grammatical errors, and the Charmander vs Abra ref didn't impress me. I'm going to lock this for the time being until you can get a little more experience with Tohea, but most of it was pretty good - this isn't a "LOL U SUX" thing. Just not quite convinced you're ready yet >>
