"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

Unhindered, your spare pokéball soared gracefully through the air, neatly hitting the fallen Poochyena in the side. All at once, the pokéball fell open at its equator, seperating red and white halves as a blood-red light erupted from its innards, striking the Dark-type and dissolving its very existence into lines and lines of data. This information was transferred into the sphere itself, and when all of it had been gobbled up, the ball swung itself shut again, finally succumbing to the laws of gravity and falling with a plunk to the sidewalk, bouncing once before rolling onto its side, where it gently twitched... "Ratta, ratta," the rodent behind you grumbled with a sigh. How predictable. Beat 'em into submission, then take 'em for your own. Was that the kind of trainer you were? She was overcome with a sudden desire to bolt for safety down the street to a place where you could never find her. She wasn't so sure she was ready to give up her carefree city life just yet. The pokéball continued to twitch. It felt like watching a pot of water on a stove. You knew it had to start boiling sometime, but it seemed to take way too fricken long. Fortunately for you, the confirming 'ding!' sound of a success soon resonated from the mechanism. Poochyena was yours! //Congrats! You'll need to head over to the Profile Changes thread to request one pokéball subtracted and one Lv5 female Poochyena added. While you're there, be sure to request 1 for Clefairy//Meanwhile, in stark contrast to the wild Rattata, Lindy on the other hand was predictably estatic over your first capture. "You did it!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "Good job, Greggy! I'll go get it!" Eagerly, Lindy dashed forward and scooped up the pokéball with both hands. Glancing over at Chloe, who remained seated with a bright (if not somewhat confused) smile on her face, Lindy approached the chubby pink pokémon and offered her a hand up. Chloe accepted, and even allowed herself to be dragged by the hand back to you by the energetic child. "Here!" Lindy thrust Poochyena's ball into your hands with a smile to rival Chloe's. "It's your first catch ever, huh? 'Cause Chloe's your only pokémon, huh? I'm happy for you!" At this, Rattata blinked and looked up at the child. Only a moment before she had bluntly assumed this rodent to belong to Gregori. How exactly had she come to ascertain the truth? "Now, if you wanna be a good trainer, you'll go to the pokémon center right away, 'cause your pokémon are hurt and hurt pokémon need a pokémon center! I know where it is. Let's go, 'kay, Greggy?" Slipping her small hand in yours, she smiled up at you, almost imploringly. You could see that she was still holding hands with Chloe; the two of them looked picturesque somehow. Remembering suddenly, Lindy looked down at Rattata. "You can come too, Rattata, if you want to! Please?" This seemed to take the creature by surprise, as she stared up at the human girl for a moment, before glancing up at you. "Ra..." she murmured, unsure of what to say. Secretly, she wasn't going to agree to it unless you did, but she would never admit that. So, how about it? Not every new trainer has the fortune of a native guide to lead them around, after all. |

Gregori kept one close eye on Rattata, the other on the twitching pokeball. Admittedly, he was a bit more concentrated on the ball. No matter how badly he wanted this Rattata to join his team, his first Pokémon catch was not one he wanted to miss. "Ratta, ratta," Gregori heard from behind him. He turned away for a single moment to see Rattata all but roll her eyes. He had done it, he had... well, not quite yet, but he had taken the first step. That spoke volumes in itself. He had thrown the pokeball, which showed his complete intent to capture this bully Poochyena. Gregori just hoped that Rattata knew his intent to take care of her, too. To be honest, he was a bit suprised Rattata didn't dart off as soon as the Poochyena was inside the ball. Then he heard a ding. Though it was a simple sound, one heard on nearly a daily basis, it sent emotions shooting through Gregori as if he had grabbed an angry Voltorb. First his stomach dropped in glee (which was wierd, as this usually only happened when something dissapointing occured). Then, pride washed over him, he had just caught his first Pokémon! And last, though minor, dissapointment ran through his veins. He had missed it! He had been so distracted by Rattata that he had missed his first victorious catch! But it wasn't that bad. If things went well, this catch wouldn't be the last. He smiled down, in what he hoped was sympathetic expression, at Rattata. He wanted to convey his regret that this may come between them, that he had perhaps chosen the Poochyena over Rattata, who he had promised to protect. But he would still keep this promise, if Rattata would let him. He was so concerned with Rattata that he hadn't noticed Lindy's reaction. He still didn't notice, in fact, until she thrust Poochyena's pokeball into his chilled and sweaty palm. "Here! It's your first catch ever, huh?" Gregori only had a second to register that, just moments before, Lindy had been convinced that Rattata was his. This thought vanished when he saw Lindy, hand in hand with Chloe. He had a sharp intake of breath, and before even he knew it, he was on his knees in front of Chloe, lifting her in his hands and cheering. "Chloe! Chloe, girl, you did it!" Resisting the urge to laugh, he pulled her close. "Good job! And..." he said, turning to Lindy, "I'm not exaggerating when I say I couldn't have done it without you." He bowed his head, looking up at her as he did so and smiling. Thank you. You're certainly going to be a great trainer someday." He straightened up and beamed. Moving back next to her, she slipped her hand in his. Gregori paused for a moment, looking down. This girl could be like his little sister... He was beginning to like Lindy more and more. And he certainly wasn't as opposed to the name 'Greggy' as he had been back in third grade. "So, to the Pokémon Center, then?" he asked. Swinging Lindy's hand, something occured to him as he slipped Poochyena's pokeball into his parka pocket. A name... Daveen, he thought suddenly. It was a name near and dear to him, the name of the girl who had first given him the nickname 'Greggy'. Greggy the Geodude, he had been to her, back when they would play 'trainers' in the schoolyard. He had been close with her, and she was the first crush he had ever had. She reminded him of another girl from his past. He couldn't quite remember her name, but he easily recalled her flame-red hair... "You can come too, Rattata, if you want to! Please?" Lindy's offer snapped Gregori out of his nostalgia. Rattata said something, and looked up at Gregori. Smiling, he nodded. "How about it? Wanna come? You know, I still intend to keep my promise, about keeping you safe..." Yes! He had finally gotten his chance to express that. Jerking his head to one side in an invition motion, he squeezed Lindy's hand and turned in the hirection he "So, Lindy, why are you alone out here? Isn't someone with you?" He certainly liked this girl. Her outgoing personality was to his shy one as the north pole is to the south. But when it came to children, Gregori was one of the most outgoing people around. He longed to have children of his own, someday, maybe ones he could pass Chloe and Daveen along to. He smiled at that thought, little Gregoris running around, barely able to walk, chasing Daveen and Chloe around with their Butterfree-shaped pacifiers... "You know what?" He said suddenly to Lindy, "After we go to the Pokémon Center, how's about we go to some shops? I'll buy you something nice for helping me back out there..." He hoped somewhere carried something trainers would use, something he could give Lindy to help her out. Because every cell in his being was sure she would become a great trainer someday... He turned back to see if Rattata was coming along, and began to hum. |

Lindy could do nothing but beam as she accepted your compliments. "Yay!" she exclaimed as you agreed to coming to the pokémon center. Not like you could avoid it, really; the pokémon center was free to use, whereas a life of dependency on Potions and the like would cost you a fortune. "...Rattata, attata," the stray rodent replied with a deep, dramatic sigh, as though she had no choice. Part of her was swayed to go because of the slight damage she had incurred from an earlier spar this morning, but mostly it was because all of you were going, and well... she had gotten somewhat attached to y "FAIRY FAIRY!" Chloe had broken free of Lindy's grasp and had wandered right over to the Rattata. The little fairy then proceeded to lift the rat pokémon over her head and put her over her shoulder, then began to carry her to the pokémon center. "Ratta!" the fellow Normal-type cried out in protest, but your Clefairy pretended not to hear this, and began to sing along to your humming as she walked. Lindy laughed out loud. "Your pokémon's so funny!" she giggled. "Wrong way, Chloe!" "Clefaii?" Chloe turned around and looked at Lindy bashfully. "Faii..." she gurgled, sweatdropping. "This way!" Lindy gestured in the way you had started to go, and waited for the pokémon to catch up before she began to lead you (well, more like drag you) off. "...Huh?" Lindy paled for a moment as she remembered the vital reason why she was out in the streets of Kadaraa in the first place. "Uh oh... I was supposed to go to the store for my parents..." She clapped a small hand to her forehead, looking apprehensive. However, your next words were able to console her somewhat, and she looked at you with brightened eyes. "Really? Okay then, we'll go to the store afterwards." She looked somewhat more relieved at this plan and began to tug you all the harder. "C'mon, we're almost there!" |

Chloe was quite the entertainer, that much was for sure. Carrying Rattata over her shoulder like a sack of goods, singing along to Gregori's humming, she was quite the little entertainer. Gregori wondered if he should tell Chloe to put the Rattata down. But surely it wasn't doing any harm. Chloe's actions brought to mind better days, days when Gregori's father would lift him up, throw him over his shoulder (like a continental soldier) and carry him to the park. Days when Gregori and his father would spend hours fishing for Magikarp on the beach. Days when they would visit Erika's Gym and buy sodas from the top floor of the Department Store... No, he thought, not now... But the damage had been done. Gregori, no longer amused by Chloe's antics, sighed. His heart was freezing, his spirits falling, his face elongating. Whenever he remembered his father, his personality dissapeared. He became a denizen of despair. "Chloe, please put Rattata down." He didn't say this sternly; he had enough kindness in his voice to make it clear that he wasn't angry, but enough authority that Chloe wouldn't argue. The sickness began forming in the pit of his stomach. He's gone, Gregori told himself, knock it off. But Gregori couldn't help feeling. He was human, after all... Humans were meant to feel. Even if the feelings were terrible ones like this. It evened things out, at least-- for every moment of joy or elation, a moment of hurt or depression. Looking down at Lindy, he pitied her. One day, her father would be gone. The poor girl would be broken, a shell of her former self. She would hate everyone and everything, blaming the agony on anything that moved. Stop. Angry with himself, Gregori wished this thought away. She's not you. Lindy was a strong girl. She was a smart girl. There was no way such a little setback would stop her, not even phase her. She would push through it, becoming even stronger through the experience. The thought of Lindy and her bright future was enough to pull Gregori from the depths of despair. The spell was being broken. Slowly, he forced a smile on his lips. He coerced his vocal cords into making melody again, and once more began to hum. See, nothing's wrong. The past is in the past. "So, how far is the Pokémon Center? Do they have food there?" Gregori was getting hungry; the battle and successful capture of Daveen had been enough to make him hungry. He would settle for anything right now, be it succulent sushi or rancid ramen. He could eat a Ponyta, flames and all. |

Lindy started to giggle a bit, "Of course they have food silly! Pokémon Trainers spend the night at the center all the time! Though they always come and go...." She sighed slightly but her face glowed again after she noticed Rattata and Chloe playing a small game of tag. They were keeping up with both of you, so they weren't behind or anything. If anything, they were a couple feet in front of you; better make sure you keep your eyes on them. After a few more minutes of walking and the occasional stranger bumping into you (watch your pockets), you saw a very large Pokeball on the top of a building. The building was cylindrical with white walls and plenty of windows around it. You knew it was the Pokémon Center...well because the word 'Pokécenter' was etched across the middle of the Pokeball on top. Lindy quickly pointed and yelled, “We’re here!” As if it wasn’t obvious already. The little girl quickly ran towards the center, which caused Rattata and Chloe to follow. You soon found yourself picking up your pace, since you didn’t really want to be dragged behind. Entering the center and walking up to the others at the counter, you were greeted by the nurse. “Hello Sir! And how are you today?! If you would just give me your Pokémon inside of their Pokeballs I would gladly heal them!” The nurse waited with a smile on her face, hiding her true emotions. She hated her job, really. To be the Joy who was sent to the polluted city was a shame. All of the other Joys were in perfect little towns and cities probably drinking a margarita every now and then…while she dealt with scum and robberies everyday. Lindy lifted up Rattata and asked the nurse to heal him as well. She then looked at you and grinned, “We should really get to the store soon!” |
