"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

using level 20 and level 30 ![]() If I get Grade A, I'd like a ![]() Don't think I made the time limit, but worth a try. Anyhow, here we go! Chapter 1 The busy sounds of Kadarra rose from the city. People about their daily business, some with Pokémon, some with none. You could tell the people by what they wore most of the time-a biker group was in sight, as well as a couple of older men, probably relishing the old times. But our story comes to a young man, walking alone. He was tall, with sloppy brown hair. He wore a plain black t-shirt and jeans. He looked like an ordinary young man, but one thing gave him away-his two Pokeballs lined up on his belt. Ephraim stopped next to a bench and sat down. The trip had been long and hard. He had walked from Ayer- a long ways-to Kadarra. And he had come here for one reason only-to collect the gym badge. He was a Pokémon trainer, and a determined one. For his time with Pokémon, he had done very well, he had collected the first badge and had two Pokémon with him, decently strong ones. He stretched out his calf muscles, then looked around the city, lost by its glamour. Another guy sat on the bench to the other side-an older fellow, reading the paper. He’d probably know where the gym was. “Excuse me, sir?”, Ephraim asked, turning to the man. He looked up. Grey hair and beard revealed his age, but deep and strong blue eyes revealed his wisdom. “Yes?”, he asked. “I was wondering if you knew where the Pokémon gym was?” The old-timer chuckled. “Oi, I do. And I get that question a lot. Head down this street, then take a left. You can’t miss it-it has a huge orange roof.” Ephraim nodded and rose. “Thank you, sir.” The man smiled. “Good luck, son.” Ephraim covered the distance quite quickly, eager to see what this gym was like. The first gym had been a tough battle-but he had come out victorious with both Pokémon still standing. He wondered if this gym would be as the first. He took a left down the street, and the large form of the gym rose as he grew closer to it. Orange roof, huge building-yep, this was it. “Wish me luck...” Ephraim muttered as he opened the doors. |

Chapter 2 Ephraim entered the huge gym building. It was, in all reality, an ugly building. Lighting rods stuck out all over the place on an orange roof to the dome-like structure, probably to recharge the Pokémon inside. It was obvious the gym was an electric type gym, which did not bode well for Ephraim. The doors shut with a THUD behind him, a loud noise in the dim gym. Rocks were everywhere, Ephraim was careful to notice, as well as a small pool of water. And the walls! They were an eye-stunning bright yellow, almost too bright to look at. And where was the gym leader? She was rumored to be one of the toughest leaders in the Tohea region, not so much her Pokémon, but her mere personality scared some out of their wits. Ephraim had seen many people in his life, and would no doubt see many more, so this person...whatever her name was...couldn’t be that much of a problem...right? “Hello?”, a voice came out of the dark, and a lady peered from behind a door to a room, presumably a bedroom or a house for the gym leader. Ephraim waved cheerfully and started over. “Wait there,” she said icily, entering back into her room and slamming the door. Wow...she is a tough nut to crack, for sure, he thought, tapping his foot against the floor. There seemed to be nothing else besides the gym in the room he was in. Something tells me that this might be tougher than I thought..., Ephraim thought. Without any preamble, the back door opened and shut again, the same lady walking out. She was a blond, and could have been a pretty girl, but her face seemed twisted into a permanent scowl. She covered the distance of the gym quickly and walked over to Ephraim. “I’m Sorsha, the leader of this gym. What do you want?” Ephraim was slightly startled even by this-the pretty blond with a scowl and an attitude. This could be very interesting. “Well, I’m Ephraim, and I wanted to challenge the leader of this gym.” The lady looked over him judge mentally. “Yeah, right. Are you serious?” Ephraim nodded. “I am.” She frowned deeper, if possible, then nodded. “Alright then. You use two Pokémon, both are in the arena at the same time. The trainer with the last Pokémon standing wins. Got it?” Ephraim nodded. “Good. Stay here,” she said, walking to the opposite side of the gym. “Battle!”, she called in a deep, unfeminine voice. That was sure quick...do your best guys. |

Chapter 3 Sorsha drew two Pokeballs out and threw them out one by one. “Go Plus and Minus!” A Plusle popped out of one, its grinning face and cheery attitude a direct contrast to its trainer. A Minun came out of the other the same way. A trainer like this having cheery Pokémon...kind of an oxymoron if you ask me!, he thought. He drew his two Pokeballs simultaneously and threw them. “Go Bulbasaur and Pidgeotto!” Bulbasaur shook itself and Pidgeotto landed beside him, both intent and waiting for commands. Before he could say anything, Sorsha started yelling. “Plus! Minus! Use Helping Hand! Minun, use Thunder Wave after, and Plus, take down that Bulbasaur with a Spark!” The two electrified Pokémon joined hands and power raced through them. Then they ran into the area that Bulbasaur and Pidgeotto were in. Minun let loose a field of electricity, smashing into Bulbasaur and leaving him stunned, unable to move. Pidgeotto flew out of the way and took to the air, while Bulbasaur took a beating from Plus. I can’t let them get separated!, Ephraim thought. “Alright. Pidgeotto, use Twister to blow them back and regroup with Bulbasaur! If he can’t recover, keep that twister up and use Sand-Attack with it to blind them! Bulbasaur, if you can, use Growth!” Pidgeotto, airborne, flapped its wings frantically, and a Twister came in, blowing Plus and Minus against nearby rocks. He landed, then used Sand-Attack in the twister, blowing the sand into the small Pokémon’s eyes, but also losing his field of vision. Bulbasaur was still stunned, but began to try and use growth. “Plus and Minus, use Quick Attack at Bulbasaur, and add your power to it!” They both started an extremely fast run before slamming into Bulbasaur. Plus hit him, blowing him backwards slightly, and Minus missed after, slamming into a rock. “Bulbasaur! Pull yourself together and use Razor leaf on Minus! Pidgeotto, after, pick Minus up with a gust and throw him into a rock!” Bulbasaur was still stunned from both blows, but managed to throw a few razor-sharp leaves, cutting Minus. He stumbled after and fell to the ground, almost fainted. Pidgeotto picked the Minus up with a gust and slammed him into a nearby rock. The Pokémon was bleeding from the cuts and slumped to the ground in a dead faint. Sorsha was glaring. “Plus, take out Bulbasaur, now!” Plus jumped off of a rock, electricity sparking from its body, and threw itself at Bulbasaur, who was weakened, and now fainted from the terrific blow. Great...a bird type vs an electric...this will be tough.[/i He returned Bulbasaur to his Pokeball, then call out another command. “Alright Pidgeotto, use Sand-Attack again to blind the Plusle, then use Fly!” Pidgeotto threw sand in the face of Plus, who immediately began to rub his eyes. Then he flew up to the ceiling, circling, and getting ready for his next attack. |

Chapter 4 Sorsha seemed slightly stunned. Wow...he’s better than I thought...there is no way he can take out my Plus though, she thought. Bringing her concentration back to the battle, she saw the Pidgeotto getting ready to strike. “Plus! Throw Thunderbolts at him!” Thunderbolts in a Plusle! Ephraim was stunned. This was not good. Pidgeotto panicked slightly, flying erratically around the gym. A large electric bolt came towards him and clipped his wing, giving him a slight shock. He fell before recovering his flight.\ “Pidgeotto! Fly into that Plusle, and pick it up when you do!” Pidgeotto nodded, and avoiding one last bolt of electricity, flew at a tremendous speed towards Plus and scooped him up, his claws digging in and Plus whining. Sorsha was enraged. “Plus! Charge your body now!” Plus tucked its chin and then flared with electricity, releasing him from Pidgeotto’s grips, but in her rage, Sorsha didn’t think it through-Plus would now fall from the thirty foot height he was at. Pidgeotto glided to the ground, stunned for the moment by the large jolt. He landed fairly well, his wings naturally slowing him down. Plus, on the other hand, hit a rock and bounced to the ground, obviously in pain. Not a sound was heard in the gym for a moment. Then Pidgeotto raised its head slightly and looked at Plus. The Plusle was still dazed, but had recognition in his eyes. It was amazing neither of them fainted. “Plus! Can you get up?” Plus stirred slightly and tried to lift his head wearily. Pidgeotto was on its feet now, stumbling a bit and leaning against a rock, most of his energy sapped by the shock. He started slowly towards Plus. “I don’t want your Plusle to get hurt. If you withdraw, I will pull back Pidgeotto.” Sorsha glared at him. Give up? Not in her lifetime. Plusle slowly, very slowly, got to its feet. “Plus! Use Thunderbolt!” The little Pokémon tried to get a charge, and its cheeks fizzled slightly. A small bolt flew towards Pidgeotto, and was not well aimed. Nevertheless, it clipped his wing, the same it had clipped earlier, that wing now useless. “Pidgeotto! Tackle the Plusle!” Pidgeotto, with all of its strength, awkwardly ran/flew into Plus. The Plusle still had some of the charge left in him, and when Pidgeotto hit, he was hit with a small electrical shock. Then Plus fainted from the blow, and Pidgeotto staggered backwards and fell, in a dead faint. But Ephraim had won. He walked over to Pidgeotto and returned him to his Pokeball, then walked to Sorsha. “Great battle. My best yet.” She still seemed angry, but retrieved Plus and thrust her hand in her pocket, bringing out the badge. “You earned it,” she said, walking away without another word. Ephraim, a smile on his face, added the badge to his first and exited the gym to head for the Pokecenter. |
