Okay, I just have one question. As I'm sure you all (should) know, Pokémon of different species can breed, although they (usually) have to be the same type. But my question is about dual types. Say for instance, my Qwilfish finds a nice little... Wailmer to settle down with. (Yes, Qwilfish can breed with Wailmer.) They make an egg, and the egg hatches, and it's a Wailmer. But... could it have characteristics of a Qwilfish, such as be a Water/Poison type also, and learn moves like Poison Sting that it usually wouldn't learn, or even have quills, or a tail, or other physical features that a Wailmer lacks but a Qwilfish has? If it could, this would be very useful for creating cross-species Pokémon to help out with weaknesses and resistances, like if a... Lotad bred with a Shroomish, it could gain immunity to both Fire and Grass. See where I'm going? |

Yes, I see where you're going but it doesn't work that way. Pokémon species take after their mother (so if the wailmer is female, baby is a wailmer) but can learn egg moves from their father. Otherwise there would be way more than 500 species, with all of the possible crossbreading combinations... |

Pokémon who breed do not create hybrids. It would prove to be weaker than either of the original parents and thusly would end up leading to extinction. Pokémon species is determined by the mother, or the parent that bred with Ditto. |

Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me, both of you. It was just a thought... I thought it could be kind of cool. I don't see how the hybrid would be weaker, though. |

It's very unlikely that the Quillmer would get traits it needed to stay alive in the wild, it could get Quillfish's spines, but then Wailmer's large body and slow speed, making it useless, or it could get a smaller Wailmer with big lips...also useless... |

That would make the Pokémon a Hybrid. So, if it has charictaristics of those Pokémon, then it is a possibility to have those attacks. Though it is probably a 25/100 chance it will. It also depends on how the charictarics are put. I can't quite say if it would work out like that or not. Now I'm curious ^_^ |
