"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

Chapter 1- A new Companion

Kaail sighed deeply, his eyes opening after a long nap. His trusty companion Vane, a Larvitar whom he had recieved from a mystery egg stolen from his parents, was sleeping soundly beside him.
"Wake up, Vane. We need to get training..." he mumbled, poking the lazy creature on the nose. He snorted, and slowly opened his eyes, a toothy frown already upon his face. Ever since he had obtained Vane, the Larvitar had never stopped scowling. Kaail guessed it was just part of his personality, but Vane seemed to disagree.
"Lavitar!" he schouted, pointing at the sun, which was very high in the air. He was trying to show Kaail that it was barely past noon, probably around one.
"Yeah, so? We've been training for this for weeks, and you still don't give a damn? I thought we were partner, Vane? Don't you want to win? To become stronger?" Kaail lectured, he too was scowling at that point. Vane's expression softened, and he nodded, his frown disappearing. They were ready.

"All Right. What I need you to do first is... Hit that tree with the most powerful Sandstorm you can whip up and then follow up with a Bite attack!" he yelled, his Larvitar partner responding immediately. He moved his tail back and forth across the ground, moving sand, and particles of dirt as fast as he could. The sand was moving faster every time he moved his tail, and the attack was ready soon. He turned abruptly, sending the dirt and sand at a nearby tree, going very fast. The particles collided with the trunk and leaves, dotting small amounts of holes and such in the leaves, but doing no noticable damage to the trunk. Then, just as soon as the sand had cleared away, Vane shot forward, his mouth clamping down around a root of the tree. The wood groaned in protest, but Vane's bite was too strong.

After chewing a bit more into the tree, Kaail managed to pry his larvitar from the tree, leaving three huge bite marks in the root. Although, Kaail was absolutely delighted.
"Awesome job, Vane. Your Sandstorm was above expectations for your power level," he began, smiling warmly. "And your bite was very strong indeed." he then turned the tree, and smiled bigger. "Now, all we need to work on is Vigilance. Something could've jumped out at you from anywhere, at any time and you would have been caught off guard."
"Larv." Vane agreed, nodding solemnly.
"Good, good. Now that you know that, today's lessons are over. And, the hunt begins." Kaail said, smiling suddenly. A weird, toothy grin spread across Vein's face, and Kaail shuddered. It was the first time he had ever seen his Pokémon smile, and it was an odd experience.

Every day, when their lessons were over, or course, Kaail and Vane would go hunting. Not for food, or money, nothing of that sort. They went hunting for Pokémon. Their main goal was to train, but, another, less important goal of theirs was to find new Pokémon to join their ranks. They had found plenty of Pokémon around Route 1, yet none of them seemed up to standards, or too stupid to keep up with either of them. Their understanding of this was why they got along so well. They shared a bond, set deep withint their minds that neither could control.
"Ehhh, up there, anything?" Kaail asked Vane, who was currently on his shoulders, looking up into the branches of a tree. His larvitar shook his head, looking sadly down at the ground below. "Don't worry. We'll find a worthy Pokémon soon enough, mate. Don't you worry." Kaail answered, smiling again.
"Larvitar..." replied Vane, suddenly looking alert. His body had tensed up, and his nose was in the air, sniffing frantically.

"What is it, Vane? Smell a pokem--" started Kaail, but before he could finish, a screech from his right side sent him to the ground. He felt three sharp appendages dig deep into the skin on his right arm. He gritted his teeth, and began to shake himself, Vane rolling off into the grass.
"Larvitar!" screamed Vane, jumping forward to latch onto the creature that had attacked Kaail. He got up off the ground, panting, to see Vane attached to some kind of bird. The bird was wriggling, trying very hard to free its neck from Vane's grasp. But, Vane clamped tighter and tighter, getting revenge on it for the sneak attack on Kaail.
"Easy, easy Vane! Let go, now." he said, the bird looking beat. He whipped out his pokedex as Vane let go, the bird obviously too tired to fly away.
"Taillow, the Tiny Swallow Pokémon. Taillow are very brave Pokémon, and will take on a much larger Skarmory in no time at all. They weaken considerably when hungry." said the electronic voice of the pokedex. Kaail smiled. This was just the pokmeon he was looking for.

Without any permission from Vane, he pulled out one of his vacant pokeballs. It rolled easily in his sweaty palm, and it was a task to throw. But, when he did, he was awarded, the small bird being sucked into the pokeball quickly, and smoothly. It rolled once, and came to a stop, a small 'DING' audible from inside. He had caught the Taillow.
"I'll call you... Fawkes." he said, grinning. Vane kicked him hard in the shin, and stormed back toward Ayer.
