Arashi’s Arrogance
Chapter One

The Ayer sky was in no way reflecting Arashi's mood. The sky was powder blue and was speckled with fluffy, white clouds. Arashi's mood was like how it usually was: crappy. He spent the night after a long victory with the Ayer gym leader at Lori's Bed & Breakfast. This would have been quite a treat if it wasn't for the very annoying Pidgey that woke him with its screeching outside his window. Since that situation, the whole morning seemed extra crappy. Crappier than it was usually anyway.

Arashi is a tall, slender, boy of fifteen years of age. His face is almost always sporting a scowl. He shows very little emotion and it is hard to tell if he is happy or not. He has jet-black hair and equally dark eyes. His wardrobe consists of nothing but dark colored clothing.

Arashi was born in Pastoria City in the Sinnoh region, but shortly after his birth he and his parents, he is an only child, moved to Hearthome City. Arashi's mother participated in the super Pokemon contests there, triggering his interest in Pokemon at a very young age. Nine years later, his parents decided that it was time for another move. His parents packed up their things and set off for Hoenn. Arashi did not move to Hoenn with his parents, though. He was ten-years-old then and was old enough to start his Pokemon journey. That was exactly what he did. He and his starter Pokemon he gained from Professor Rowan, a Zubat by the name of Zut, left the Pokemon lab and traveled alone across Sinnoh collecting badges, gaining experience, and capturing wild Pokemon. Today, five years later, Arashi stands in his shoes as an intelligent, experienced trainer with eight badges from Sinnoh and ready to get the ones in Tohea.

After showering, dressing, and eating breakfast, Arashi left Lori's and started up the route to the east, Route 1. The walk to his destination was a long one. Kadaraa was the home to the Thunder Gym. If Arashi beat the Gym Leader Sorsha he would be granted with the Thunder Badge. The badge would be his second in the Tohea region. Arashi stopped a few times while on Route 1. A weak Sentret and an equally weak Doduo interrupted his travels. Arashi sent out Crance; a Cacnea, his latest addition to his team, to fight them. Crance had no probably with either Pokemon.

It was just after lunchtime when Arashi reached the chaotic Kadaraa City. The sidewalks were so crowded. Almost everyone's shoulders were touching someone else's. He could have sworn he saw a Growlithe that seemed to be just a pup biting at someone's ankles. It was the most hectic, busy city Arashi has ever been in his entire life, and that was saying something.

Over the endless sea of heads, Arashi could see the ugliness of the yellow dome that was Kadaraa Gym. He started to become excited, his heart pounding, but he didn't show his excitement through his facial expressions but the way he pushed through the pedestrians told the world he was in a hurry to get to the gym. It felt like hours until he actually did make it to the gym. Although it didn't take him longer than a half a minute to get impatient and annoyed, the whole time he was going over strategies, moves to use, and the Pokemon to select.

Arashi casually entered, he refrained from running, the city's gym. It is as ugly on the inside as it is on the outside, Arashi thought bitterly. In the center of the dome's floor was a small pond. Arashi guessed it could hold about two or three Wailmer. Surrounding the pond's water was countless rocks and boulders varying in size and shape. Lightening rods were visible at the top of the gym. Arashi assumed they used electric Pokemon to power the gym so they didn't have to use money out of their wallets to pay for it themselves.

Stepping forward, Arashi saw that a figure on the opposite side of the gym. She had blonde hair and a red, white, and blue outfit. She looked older than Arashi; he guessed she was around her early-mid twenties. Arashi wasn't going to go easy on her just because of her gender if she thought he was going to.

"Are you the Gym Leader of this place?" Arashi demanded. He looked around the dome then at the figure of the woman across the pond. If she is a weak trainer like that Gym Leader in Ayer, Arashi thought privately, this battle will be over in a matter of seconds. "I wish to battle."

"I am," the woman said quickly as if rushing to spill all of the words out of her mouth. "I am Sorsha, the Kadaraa Gym Leader. If you think you have a chance against me you are sadly mistaken. Yes, yes. Lets battle. You just have to promise me you won't cry when you lose."

As quick as lightening, Sorsha hurled two red and white balls into high into the air. The balls soared, arched, and crashed to the ground. With a flash of light two electric Pokemon appeared. One red and yellow, the other blue and yellow. Arashi was very familiar with these two Pokemon Plusle and Minun. His mother used her Plusle and Minun, their nicknames were Pie and Mie, in her super contests back when they lived back in Hearthome.

Arashi founded the duo his mother had annoying and in his opinion they looked very weak. He thought the same about Sorsha's Pokemon. He didn't know what Pokemon Sorsha would use when he was thinking over his strategy before entering the gym. All that he knew was that she used electric Pokemon, so his first choice was an easy one. He yanked a white and red ball off of his waist and threw it into the air. It fell, crashed to the ground, there was a flash of light, and a humongous rock snake appeared. It stared down at the small cheering Pokemon. Arashi chose his Onix who he nicknamed Onnx.

His next choice was a bit more difficult. It was common knowledge that electric type moves don't do damage against rock and ground type Pokemon. So, any fool with any brains would have chosen a Onix if they had one. Arashi's problem was that he didn't have another rock or ground Pokemon to choose. With some quick thinking, he grabbed another one of the remaining five Pokeballs on his waist and tossed it high in the air. It fell to the floor, there was yet another flash of white, and Arashi's starter Zut, who had evolved from a Zubat into a Golbat, appeared.

There was a moment of silence. The Plusle and Minun looked up, they were smaller than both of Arashi's chosen Pokemon, at their opponents. Sorsha had a small smile on her face. Arashi hid his smirk. Onnx roared a deep, heart shaking roar, as if impatient that it wasn't given orders to smash something the second it was called out. Zut flapped its huge wings, but its large feet were still on the ground. Sorsha made the first move.

"Plus, Minus," she told them. Her voice rang around the dome magnifying her voice so it was like she didn't speak normally but yelled. "Cheer each other on and use Helping Hand." Instantly her Pokemon obeyed her. They conjured four balls of electricity, each hand held one, and started jumping, crying out, and shaking the balls of electricity like they were pom-poms. All the while, their stats rose.

"Fly high and Screech, Zut," Arashi told his Golbat. Zut flew upward, came to a stop, and screeched a horrible screech. It would have been loud if they weren't in a dome that magnified every sound like a microphone, but sense they were in the dome the move was twice as affective. Plus and Minus's electric pom-poms disappeared. Their tiny hands clapped over their large ears and they swayed on the spot until Zut's screeching stopped.

"Onnx," Arashi said in a calm voice, although his heart was now beating a mile a minute. "Dive down at the Plusle with Tackle." Onnx dove at Plus at Arashi's command. Sorsha, however, was just as clever as Arashi was.

"Get out of the way, both of you," Sorsha called, "Minus, give the Onix an Encore. Plus, stay out of Onnx's way with Quick Attack." The electric duo separated and Onnx slammed right into the floor with a horrible crash. The ground shook when Onnx's face collided with the floor. Minus jumped onto a boulder and began clapping madly and cheering sweetly. Onnx had to oblige with Minun's wishes for an encore. Onnx chased after Plus, and Plus's Quick Attack was so speedy Onnx couldn't catch up.

"Zut, ruin Minun's Encore and sink your teeth into it." Zut, who was still high in the air, darted to the floor and flew into Minus.. The electric cheering Pokemon was knocked off its boulder and skid on the rough, dirt ground of the gym. Golbat jumped on top of it and its fangs were no longer visible now they were injected into Minus's body. All Golbat loved the taste of their prey's body.

"NO!" Sorsha cried. Her voice rang so loud it competed with Onnx's roar. "Plus, hurry and use Thunder Wave on that monster!" Since Onnx's encore was silenced, it stopped chasing after Plus. Plus also stopped its running. It shot thin, white, bolts of lightening, the attack made no sound, that struck and wrapped Zut. It forced the bat to the floor. Zut wiggled and squirmed on the ground. Minus got to its feet, but slowly.

"Onnx," Arashi spoke. He knew Zut would manage to get itself out of its current situation if it tied hard enough. "Use your tail to Slam into Plusle." And slam it did. The giant snake swung its huge tail of rock across the gym. It slammed into Plus and sent it flying to the opposite side of the gym so that Plus and Minus weren't even remotely close to each other anymore. Unfortunately for Arashi, Zut was now paralyzed on the floor next to the standing Minus.

"Use your Fake Tears attack, Plus," Sorsha said. "Minus, shoot a ball of electricity at the paralyzed Golbat." At these words, Plus immediately jumped to its feet and pretended like it was crying. Minus had jumped onto another nearby boulder, summoned a ball of electricity, and shot it directly at Zut. The attack was very affective, but unbound Zut's rope-like binding. Onnx lost its "tough guy" manner at the sight of the weeping Plus. Its huge rock face looked sorrowful, sympathetic, and concerned all at once. It lowered its head close to cheering Pokemon. "Plus, Minus, both of you run at Onix with your Quick Attack." The small electric Pokemon, who were both tougher than they looked and proved to Arashi to be pretty strong, darted lightening fast at Onnx.

"Onnx," Arashi called, "Get angry with Rage the more they hit you." Plus and Minus hit Onnx at the same time. Onnx roared in anger. Unfortunately for Sorsha and her Pokemon, running lightening fast into a giant snake made of rocks hurt Plus and Minus more than it hurt Onnx. Nonetheless, Onnx was angered with the hits, even though they didn't do very much damage.

"Onnx," Arashi called again, "Make a Sandstorm." Onnx roared its terribly loud roar and started making its way around the edges of the gym. It built up speed, and in now time Onnx was barely visible circling around them all. The sand and dirt on the floor of Sorsha's gym rose. The longer and faster Onnx went, the more horrible the sandstorm became. Both Plus and Minus cried disoriented. Zut tried to soar away from the storm, but its heavy body, tired wings, and low energy made Zut do nothing but flap around on the ground and be pushed around by the wind of the sandstorm.

Sorsha yelled out in frustration. This was chaos. This gym was as chaotic as the city outside it. Sorsha haven't had a battle like this one in a very long time. There was no question that this was Arashi's most difficult and longest battle, and it wasn't even over. All four of the Pokemon in the Kadaraa Gym were exhausted.

As Onnx slowed down, so did its sandstorm. Everyone was able to see now, which was good for both times as they were temporarily blind.

"Plus, Minus," Sorsha yelled, getting aggravated with the useless flapping of Zut, who was both distracting and annoying for both trainers. "Get rid of that horrid bat! Spark!" Plus and Minus spun toward Zut, and before Arashi could do anything two balls of light were hurled at Zut. Both balls of electricity hit, and Zut fainted. Arashi could have yelled a nasty curse word in anger, but he didn't. He just returned Zut to its Pokeball. So far, he was losing this battle.

"Onnx, Bind one of your opponents and squeeze the life out of it," Arashi said coolly. The cheering Pokemon were facing the other way, where Zut was, so it was easy for Onnx to bind one of them. And bind one of them it did. Minus's yellow and blue body was being held by Onnx's coiled tail. If it could have screamed, it would have, but Onnx was squeezing all of the air out of its tiny body.

"Use Fake Tears again, Plus," Sorsha commanded. Plus pretended to sob dramatically. Onnx's grip on Minus loosened a bit so it was able to breath without too much trouble. Onnx lowered his head like he had done before, looking concerned and sad at the small Pokemon in front of its nose. "Ram 'em with Skull Bash!" Plus jumped into the air, eye level with Onnx, and crashed its skull into Onnx's. Onnx roared angrily. Its rage was overflowing now. Onnx dove at Plus, releasing Minus who fell to the floor with a slap. Onnx rammed its head into Plus's small body. Plus fainted the instant Onnx's head collided with its body.

"NOO!" Sorsha screamed furiously. She knew Plus was in better condition than Minus; Plus didn't have a Golbat's fangs bitten into its body like Minus did or have the life squeezed out of it also like Minus did. Minus didn't have much of a chance against Onnx. Spark was one of its strongest moves, but electric attacks were useless against rock Pokemon and most physical attacks would hurt the tiny Pokemon more than it would hurt the rock snake. At least Plus lowered a great deal of its stats, Sorsha said to herself. Maybe Plus did have a chance.

Arashi knew this battle was in the bag. Those weaklings are nothing compared to my Pokemon, Arashi thought to himself as Sorsha returned her fainted Plusle to its Pokeball. That Minun especially doesn't have a chance against my Onix, he continued to himself. He had no doubt in Onix. He had complete trust in Onix to knock out the little foe, and not even get a scratch doing it.

"Onnx," Arashi said in a determined voice, "Harden your body and throw yourself at your opponent and Tackle it." Onnx's body tensed up and hardened itself. It dove down at the blue and yellow Pokemon.

"Dodge out of its way!" Sorsha screeched. Minus jumped out of Onnx's way just in time. Onnx's head crushed the boulder on contact. It turned toward its foe. Minus jumped on yet another boulder. Predictably, Minus threw itself off the boulder just at the right time so that Onnx's head crushed it like a bug. This went on for a while. It was getting more repetitive, and was drained the excitement out of the match.

"Onnx," Arashi's voice rang around the dome, "Finish Minun with your Slam attack." He was growing more and more tired and annoyed of this battle. It was already nearly an hour long. Onnx felt like collapsing on the spot, and Minus wanted to run away and nap in a quite place where it wouldn't be disturbed. Onnx's tail swung around its body, nearly the entire length of the gym, and hit Minus hard. Minus was sent flying like its partner had done. It hit the side of the gym, and fell to the floor with a bang. It was finished. Minus fainted. Onnx cried its ground-shaking cry, it was its victory cry.

Arashi could have jumped, shook his fist in the air, and yell "Ha!" at Sorsha's disappointed and disbelieving face, but he didn't. He and Sorsha returned their Pokemon. She slowly made her way to Arashi, she wasn't in no real hurry. It was obvious that she was sad about this defeat. Arashi couldn't blame her. If he was a gym leader and someone beat him and took one of his badges away he would feel devastated.

"Well done," Sorsha said stiffly. She stretched her arm out in front of her and handed Arashi the Thunder Badge. "Also," she continued and took out a TM and some cash, "I want you to have these for winning. Gifts. It is the TM Thunder and five hundred dollars in cash. I assume you know how TMs work. It can only be used once. So, use it wisely." There was a period of silence where Arashi took his winnings and placed them in his bag. Sorsha seemed like she didn't want to say what she was about to tell Arashi, but she managed to. "You are a fine trainer. You'll go far." There was another pause, but Sorsha was now finished with her mandatory congratulatory speech she always gave to the trainers that defeated her.

"Thanks," Arashi replied bitterly. He knew Sorsha was just saying words that she really didn't mean. If she didn't mean her words, Arashi thought, then I won't mean mine. He turned on his heel and walked to the exit behind him. It was only an hour-long battle, but it felt like twelve. He gained the second gym badge in the Tohea region, and it was hard working earning it. He could only imagine how Onnx and Zut feel. Exhausted and weak, he guessed. The two Pokemon deserved their rest. Arashi had his other four Pokemon to battle with if necessary until he reached the next town. The day was still young, and he had a long journey ahead.
