"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

The Pokedex

The Pokedex: A Pokemon encyclopedia made digital by Professor Samuel Oak. Initially, the Pokedex was a bound set of documents, only making the move to hardware and software with the introduction of Bill of Ecruteak. The Pokedex has become a staple of anyone working in close contact with Pokemon, and is seen as the calling card of a trainer. Many offices and corporations require a Pokedex for identification purposes, despite close monitoring of Pokedex distribution.

Anyone whom has been assigned a Pokedex is entered into a system of known Pokedex users known as the “Pokedex Database.” Through this, ID and background checks are run and Trainer status is updated so friends and family can be kept appraised of the status of their loved ones, regardless of distance.

Having and using a Pokedex is a great responsibility, and we, the creators, hope that you will use this wisely and to great effect in furthering the research and development of Pokemon raising and techniques, strengthening the bonds between us and Pokemon.

~Professor Samuel Oak

Activation and Assignment

The Pokedex is a delicate system, and their assignment is handled only by licensed professionals under the guidance of Professor Oak, this duty sub-divided by the leading researchers of each Region. When a Trainer or other person of a Pokemon-related Profession is assigned a Pokedex, that person’s personal data is entered into the Database. This step is unavoidable, and unless the Pokedex and its user are registered, the Pokedex will not function beyond allowing the user to access the Registration screen.

Registration can be accomplished by a number of people, and all officers of the police force, as well as higher ranking faculty at medical establishments can perform this critical task as well. At these self-same establishments, the Pokedex is vital as recognition, and you will likely not be serviced unless your ID can be proven through a Pokedex.

Should your Pokedex somehow lose its registration, it is possible to re-register it through the same means as normal registration takes place. This will be noted on your file in the Database, however, and it is strongly cautioned that you do not allow your Pokedex to accumulate such damage to its internal workings.

Once a Pokedex has been registered to a particular user, its more personal features are inaccessibly by any other than the registered user or one with access to the Database and the user-bypass protocol. In this manner, your identity and personal information is kept safe and locked away from prying eyes. Upon re-registration of a Pokedex, any personal data previously stored will be erased in order to lower the risk of important personal data being accessed by the wrong person.

If you are found in possession of an unregistered Pokedex and have made no efforts to re-register it, basic protocol states for you to be apprehended by the police until proper identification can be provided to prove the Pokedex is yours and not stolen. Evasion of this law is subject to immediate incarceration of length dependant on each individual case.

Basic Care Instruction

The Pokedex is a delicate instrument, but as it was originally designed for field use, it is slightly hardier than many of the electronics available today. The Pokedex can operate submerged in liquids as low as 20 degrees Farenheit, and in temperatures as high as 120 degrees Farenheit. Loading times for data, and certain information gathering functions may suffer functionality problems.

Periodically it is necessary to update one’s Pokedex at a Pokemon Center in order to keep information up to date. This process is very quick and can be handled easily by one of the machines present at any Pokemon Center. There are more than one of these depending on the size of the Center.

Hardware upgrades have never been necessary in the past, excluding the various reissues, though there are peripheral tools available, ranging from headphones to full-size keyboards and external hard-drives. These pieces of equipment are not available through Oak Laboratories Ltd., and warranties and regulations of the Pokedex do not apply to them.

Replacement and Reassignment Policy

We urge you to take the best care possible of your Pokedex, but we realize that accidents happen, and have provided a policy for Pokedex replacement and reassignment, under the assumption that this can happen.

Should your Pokedex be lost or stolen, and has been such for a 6 month period of time, you can apply at any Pokemon Center for a new one. The application process has a charge of $100, and the Pokedex itself is $5,000*. Oak Laboratories Ltd will not reimburse you for peripheral equipment.

It will be necessary for you to, during your application, provide three forms of picture identification, birth certificate, and written consent by an officer of the law. Without these your application will not be processed.

Processing, if all is in order, can take up to one week, not including holidays and natural disasters, and confirmation will be relayed back to the Pokemon Center of origin. If this is not confirmed by you, the request will be dropped. Upon receiving confirmation, a replacement Pokedex will be shipped and you will need to remain at your location of application until the Pokedex can be registered by one with the power to do so.
