The brilliant thing about Gyarados is that it's so versatile. It's baisically a dragon type, in that it can learn all kinds of special attacks. Fire, lightning, water, ice, dragon... You can't really go wrong with Gyarados on your team. But I must say, I agree with Jean. He's missing the elemantal fang attacks. If he had, even just ice fang, he'd pwn. |

Yea, that's why hs Special Attack is not as good as his Attack And I forgot Medicham like what Jarno said. His ability is also superb, PURE POWER, that goes well with his excellent attack stats. Quite the speed too but he lacks special attack, sadly. Surskit is another underrated Pokemon. Have you seen its special attack? I forgot the behavior my Masquerain (evolved) had but his special attack was ranging between 230-250 between level 45-50. He learns good ice moves and water moves (s a surskit) too. One of my favorite. He's cute too xd |

Masquerian is only good if you use him properly. The water/bug dual type make it resistant to a lot of things and allows it to compete against Pokemon it would normally have no right to be fighting. Here are some more over/under rated Pokemon: Over: -Wailord. Am I the only one in the non-competitive community that sees just how bad this Pokemon is? Slow, poor moveset, and gets raped by a lot of Pokemon. -Articuno: Just Pokedex fodder. Has a piss poor moveset, and its good stats are only an illusion. -Gligar: Not used much anyway, because evryone knows how bad he is. No Earthquake equals no chance. -Heracross: Anti-dark/psychic specialist and that's it. Rhydon is a better MegaHorn user. -Ninetails: Can be a Special Sweeper, can be an Annoyer. Not good at anything. -Mr. Mime: Alakazam has already established himself as the best Psychic type, and Girafarig and Ninjask are better Baton passers. -Chansey: Blissey made her useless -Scyther: See Chansey -Slowking: I like Slowbro better. -Wigglytuff: Insane in TCG, but is useless after RBY -Snorlax: Is good, but people are finding new ways to defeat Curselax every day. Under: -Girafarig: Best Batton passer alongside Ninjask. -Ninjask: gets raped after like 2 turns, but his speed boost, and Swords Dance make him the perfect Batton passer and can set up a counter Physical Sweeper like Tyrannitar -Magmar: Can be a powerful Special Sweeper that can poison and take out fighting types. Will be made useless come D/P -Electabuzz: See Magmar -Fraligatr: Because noob players don't know how to use him properly. -Charizard: See Fraligatr. Fire Blast, Flash Burn, Overheat, and Flamethrower do NOT make a good Pokemon! Use Belly Drum, Slash, Flamethrower, and a HP Grass? -Zangoose: Ninjask can be the perfect setup man for Zangy -Lapras: have you fought Lorelei the 2nd time in FR/LG? Well her Lapras is only scratching the surface on its potential. It has an azming move pool, and everyone should play around with this Pokemon. -Slowbro: Overshadowed by Slowking -Machamp: No longer preferred by players for a Physical Sweeper, but Machamp is still a tank. |

...With 'zard's awesome attack, setup with Belly Drum, you're only going to put ONE physical attack on it? I don't think so! Waste of HP to do that. Belly Drum 'zard needs a more inventive set, like: Charizard ~Adamant or Impish (EVs in Def and Att) @Leftovers Aerial Ace Flare Drive/Fire Fang (whichever creams your STAB twinkie) Dragon Claw/Shadow Claw/Crunch (depends on what you run into more often - Dragon for Salamence, Shadow or Crunch for Gengar and psychics) Belly Drum* *why use Belly Drum when it COULD set up with Swords Dance? Mediocre defences, yes, but you could always just set up with Ninjask SD and save this slot for one of the alternate moves. Special 'zard is even better though with a 120 SpAtt base stat: Charizard ~Modest or Timid (evs in SpDef and Def) @Leftovers Flamethrower/Heat Wave (Flamethrower has slightly better accuracy, but Heat Wave has higher chances of a burn and slightly higher base power) Air Slash Focus Bomb (for rock types like Aero who try to counter, and for Blissey) Solar Beam If set up with a sunny day, this 'zard covers lots of type weaknesses at least Neutral - and doesn't hurt itself to have an advantage... just my thoughts though |

yes, of course they are and it's boring if you start losing them. I like your points, Jarno and SOMEONE agreed with me about Masquerain >< and I think Slash is better than Aerial Ace. Charizard is a quick Pokemon so he wouldn't be needing Aerial Ace at all, as it has lower attack stats than Slash. I doubt that Charizard's accuracy would sink that low in the early matches because you wouldn't use Belly Drum + [Physical Attack] when you're dying, would you? |

@Jeanese I wasn't sure what a good Zard moveset was... So the HP was just an option. @xeleda Agreed. Although I have caught several legendaries with Pokeballs before (and Mewtwo no kidding he was at full health). They make the game no fair, and more legendaries should be like Mewtwo and Rayquaza where you have to beat the game (and then some with Mewtwo in FR/LG) in order to get them. @Tan-Tan Lol you don't have to look hard to see if a Pokemon is good or not. Although a lot of people over look some good ones even in competitive play. Although you can see why Masquerian doesn't get a lot of play. Okay overall stats, it loses the Water Dual-type, which will likely be the biggest reason nobody uses it, and the movepool is just okay. You'd have to get creative to say the least. |

...Aerial Ace may have a slightly lower base power, but it gets a STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) boost - whenever a Pokemon uses an attack of their type, the power is multiplied by 1.5. So the BASE of the attack is 60, but after STAB it goes up to 90 - that's the same BASE power as Heat Wave, and minimally lower than Flamethrower. |

Well there's no point in arguing then. Another Underrated Pokemon...or Overrated is Nidoking/Queen. They actually have great Attactk/Spec attack and defensive move. I don't know if they're a bit slow but I don't see a lot talking about them. |

They aren't talked about simply because they are just okay. They have good stats and great movepool, but they get raped by Water AND Psyichics, who are always present in competitive play. |

Heracross? Overrated? Are you kidding me? And Wailord is not Overrated, it sucks and everyone knows it. And no mention to my trapping friends Duggy or Wobby? Whatever. This, IMO will be standard Gyarados @ Leftovers ~ Aqua Tail/ Waterfall ~ Ice Fang ~ Dragon Dance ~ Earthquake/ Taunt/ Rock Slide
He learns Ice Fang at lvl 32. And if you use a Fire or Electric Gyarados... And just throwing this out to everyone (although most of you probably know): Use smogon.com for everything competitive |
