Gaining Experience

EXP for training posts is given by the referees based on the levels of the Pokémon involved, what actually happened during the training, and how well you roleplayed. The referee will look at the level and the EXP needed to gain another level, and then make their assessment based on all the aformentioned information. You gain experience for battling or capturing a Pokémon.

DO NOT WORRY IF YOU ARE CONFUSED. STAFF HANDLE THE EXP. TRULY, THIS ISN'T EVEN A NECESSARY TOPIC TO READ IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT BE CONFUSED.

One on One Battles

If you're battling one on one, then the EXP formula is simple.
Code:

The level of the defeated Pokémon divided by the level of the winning Pokémon, then times two.

For example, Charmander L8 defeats a Rattata L5:
5 divided by 8 = 0.6
0.6 multiplied by 2 = 1.2
So Charmander would get 1.2 :exp

Multiple Pokémon battles

If your Pokémon gets help during a battle, the EXP formula is divided.
Code:

The level of the defeated Pokémon divided by the level of the strongest Pokémon on your side. Multiply results by two, then divide by the number of participants.

For example, Charmander L8 and Rattata L5 team up, and beat a Squirtle L10. Since Charmander is your highest level in the battle, we use that for the equation.

10 divided by 8 = 1.25.
Multiplied by two = 2.5
Divide by the number of Pokémon on your side (2) to reduce it back to 1.25.
Thus, Charmander and Rattata each get 1.25 :exp.

Levelling up
To level up, a Pokémon needs to gain a certain amount of experience. They receive their experience the moment the opposing Pokémon faints, and will level up mid-battle, if applicable. If a Pokémon does level up mid battle, and learns a new move as a result, then they can use it immediately. They don't, however, get their rise in HP, until the battle is over.

Very simply, the exp required starts at 1 :exp per level, and goes up by 1 more necessary for each level up, after each block of 20 levels. So, to level up at the various levels, the requirement is:
Lvls 1-19 -> 1 :exp
Lvls 20-39 -> 2 :exp
Lvls 40-59 -> 3 :exp
Lvls 60-79 -> 4 :exp
Lvls 80+ -> 5 :exp

FAQ

  • Pokémon RPers multiply all exp by x4 instead of x2, while wild. However, once captured, their exp rate drops to the normal. This is to reflect how wild Pokémon must completely manage every aspect of their side of the battle, strategizing and acting in place of the trainer.

  • You DO gain experience if you capture the Pokémon. However, there is a drawback to this. If you capture the Pokémon, any experience you normally get for defeating it will be halved. If you CONVINCE the Pokémon to join your squad, you get no experience.

  • You DO gain experience if the opposing trainer forfeits. We do not want to see people forfeiting just so their opponent doesn't get the experience because technically, they did win.

  • You DO gain experience if BOTH your Pokémon and the opposing Pokémon faint at the same time. However, you only get half the normal experience.

  • You DO gain experience if only YOUR Pokémon faints, BUT only under certain conditions. If the fight was over in a combo from the opponent or your Pokémon failed to put up any sort of decent fight, you receive no experience. IF, however, your Pokémon managed to put up a decent fight and landed some hits, they will still earn 1/4 of the exp they would have received for a win. Due to the sensitive nature of these decisions, only a Gmod or higher can award you experience in this manner.
  • Tagteam journey joint battles yield 20% more exp to each participating Pokémon.
