Non-legit character ratings have been removed from the Soul Calibur IV CaS website (http://soulgatewaysc4.awardspace.info/). Additionally literally hundreds of spambot comments on character pages have also been removed. What are non-legit character ratings? Non-legit character ratings are a multitude of ratings done on a series of identical IPs purposely rated in a way that will hurt or boost characters. These are extremely easy to spot since these individuals will only rate everything the same exact score regardless of what character it may be. Sometimes they may even go as far as rating all characters on the site the same score and use IP changing software to enable rating more than once. All of these types of ratings have been removed, additionally those who commit to this fraud are permanently banned from accessing the website. What prompted me to investigate this matter once again was that every time a update occurred some individual would continuously rate all new characters 1 star. I also noticed certain characters being targeted with huge amounts of ratings which are otherwise impossible to be normal (i.e. Kunoichi and Onikage, the former having almost 130 ratings). It seems like even with the banning announcements on the site and actual bannings won't stop these individuals to spam non-legit ratings. So I'm going to start checking ratings database every month from now on. This is also a warning to those who do this, you will be caught and you will be permanently banned. Please remember to respect the integrity of the ratings by providing only legit ratings. Thank you. Edited by C.T, Apr 9 2011, 03:07 PM.

Could it be that these buggers increase site traffic to the point where we can exceed the bandwith?

Who knows. Judging on all the spam comments received there could be quite a lot of spambots spiking bandwidth. Additionally coupled with all these non-legit ratings bandwidth pumping may well be an issue, intentional or not. Right now we're at 20% total bandwidth consumed. I was also pondering if it's actually the spambots who are the ones responsible for creating all these non-legit ratings. Usually when a bot attempts to fill out a form to spam, they automate all the options with first integer. So when a bot goes to fill out a rating they'll always pick the first integer which is 1 star, hence why a lot of characters are receiving tons of 1 star ratings. HOWEVER, I compared spambots IP addresses to the IP addresses of individuals who provide non-legit ratings and they don't match at all. So I'm still certain there are individuals purposely attempting to corrupt ratings. All of these have been hopefully banned. |

We're at 20% bandwidth consumed at the 10th day? Does the bot uses dynamic IP or something that they can keep coming? |

I don't know exactly how spambots work, but yes they can and will use dynamic IPs to spam so they won't be banned and continuing to wreck havoc. I don't monitor bandwidth daily so I can't say whether things have been normal. I think 20% is considered normal, if we get 20% every ten days then that's enough for the entire month. In addition I haven't really noticed any spamming [comments] lately, most of it was in the past. Like I said, I believe spam comments and non-legit ratings are different from one another. Regardless it is bad that we are experiencing both at once. Hopefully with more bans in place (including banning dynamic IPs) these will come to a stop. |
