BaneWolf's Soul Calibur III CaS Guide version 3.0 has been finally released!
After nearly five years of the Soul Calibur III CaS site retaining the stale, messy and dated layout with little to no major overhaul; change has finally arrived to help free the site from its gruesomeness.
The layout was created not only to do just that, but to stylistically blend the two SCIII and SCIV CaS sites together more smoothly. Thus, many features you will see on the new layout are taken directly from the SCIV CaS site, and the navigation even remains closely the same.
Many of you who visit the forums regularly may already know how the layout looks. I presented a preview of this layout back in 2009 and it has finally been completed (though I did take 2 years off from the project due to uninterest). This is also the only layout I actually liked and continued working on, compared to a few others that were wholly scrapped.
Visit the site and see the new changes now!
If you don't see the changes hit refresh on your browser or hit CTRL + F5!
Features:
- Cleaner, more modern design coupled with easier navigation.
- Much less bandwidth consumption with fewer decorative/useless images, hence all pages load much faster than previous.
- Content including characters and series titles are now all alphabetically organized similarly to the SCIV CaS site.
- Characters are now presented in a list format rather than the bulky, face images/buttons of the past. This allows all content to fit onto one single page rather than multiple pages, and additionally sheds off enormous load times.
- Author names are now shown directly on all characters in the lists, allowing easier visual representation of who created what.
- Any alternate costumes are also shown directly on the lists, so you can jump from one costume to another easier.
- Originals under User Library can now be sorted both alphabetically by character name or author name.
- Entirely separate links section with many more links to other pages.
- Viewers can now easily switch from the SCIII CaS site to the SCIV CaS site and vice versa within the pages, whereas before it was impossible unless you knew the site link.
- Shoutbox added. This shoutbox is unique and separate from the one on the SCIV CaS site.
- Artwork gallery with user submissions added.
Keep in mind the following is still carried from the old layout:
- Screenshots and videos are the same, they are not redone.
- Character setup on pages remains mostly the same (e.g. name, gender, class, origin, author, discipline, weapon, additional credits, screenshots, videos, biography/story and formula). However costume is now added as a field to originals to store easier access to costumes, similar to the SCIV CaS site.
- There are no additional features of the SCIV CaS site such as viewer ratings and viewer commenting. These can be added, but the current server does not allow so.
Currently the site has been tested fully functional under Firefox 3.
I need people to test this site under other browsers such as IE! And do turn off your ad-block software/plug-ins since the ads need to be tested to be correct in addition.
Report any errors you see to me, please!

There's just one thing who I don't like. Remenber in the other layout to see the CAS, was the characters face, not the name in text.
IMO, due to the large amount of CaS in the site, coupled with some generation of screenshots, using face portrait will make things inconsistent and the page will load slower. OH! Sorry...

OH! Sorry... Like Perse said, it was dealt away with to improve load times and save bandwidth. It's also much neater and more organized if it was text instead of images.
I do agree that it does have negative points, i.e. you no longer are able to get a preview of the character before actually clicking on the name.
That's why I was intending on a hover system where you can hover over a character name and it'll pop up a preview of the character. But that will be something done in a future update regarding the layout. Version 3.5 Now Released.
What's New:
- Graphical revamp, site now looks more aesthetically pleasing.
- Integrated website searching added for every page, allowing instant searching of all 400+ characters by using any amount of keywords.
- CaS libraries are now easier to navigate since series/type headings are made more visually separated from the rest of the contents.
- All text are now justified, making long bits of text such as Biography/Story more neat.
- Italics wholly removed from formulas, since they are discovered not necessary as the dash already separates parts from colors. It would also help ease adding them to the site as well.
- Lightbox feature is now available for non-large image thumbnails. This allows you to view the full sized image after clicking on the thumbnail without having to leave the current window.
- Top links removed, instead replaced by a single top link on the the corner that always stays on the pages. Hence unwanted scrolling times are shed and people who desire to use the top links can still use it.
- Poverty banner removed since it interferes with the shoutbox at lower resolutions.
- News Archive link on news entry removed and replaced with Comment on the Forums. This would allow you to comment on the news and read more about it.
- Periodic Poll is now accessible through the site.
- Compatibility is increased for IE9 as well as hardware accelerated Firefox.
- Lots of minor bug fixes.
If you do not see the changes, be sure to refresh your browser. However, it is more recommended to just empty your cache before visiting the site.
