Soul Gateway - Another Stage of History
Upcoming Soulcalibur IV CaS site/guide

Posted Image

This is an upcoming sneak peak at the new Soul Calibur IV CaS site, called Soul Gateway - Another Stage of History (title remains tentative). Basically the site will continue BaneWolf's Soul Calibur III CaS Guide's legacy to exclusively cover Soul Calibur IV's CaS, the same great way BaneWolf's covered Soul Calibur III's CaS.

Soul Gateway - Another Stage of History will not only feature what BaneWolf's currently offers, but also a slew of ultra spiffy new features, sections, and enhancements. Some of these are:

New features:
  • CaS rating system (viewers can directly rate every CaS on the site and view their current overall rating)
  • Infinite user commenting on the site for every CaS
  • Masterlist link on CaS page if author has one on the forums
  • Personal author comments/notes for each CaS (optional by author)
  • PSN/Live ID displayed for author (optional by author)
  • New site Shoutbox quickly accessible on every page
  • Site searching
  • Navigational site map
  • Instant access to chatroom on the forums
New sections:

  • Standard character customizations
Enhancements:
  • CaS screenshots will shift to genuine high definition, with full resolution sizes at 1280 x 720 and up to 1920 × 1080 each individual shot. In addition, there will no longer be any jumbling or collage screenshots, as seen in BWSCIIICG.
  • CaS battle presentation videos will return in high definition as with screenshots and be greatly enhanced. CaS video streaming will be hosted on a server with less ads or intrusions.
  • Cameos now organized alphabetically by clickable origins, and updates for them will be readily shown with red asterisks.
  • Separate link section featuring SCIV CaS sites as well as general SC sites. Site banners and a affiliate system will also be available.
Green items: Requested by members/visitors.

When will Soul Gateway - Another Stage of History be launched?
At the moment it is undecided and uncertain when the site will be launched for public access; however, the site will without a doubt be launched before the end of September. There's a required time frame from when SCIV releases to launching the site that includes mandatory tasks such as unlocking most/all CaS parts and creation + additions of CaSs for the site.

When will you be taking SCIV CaS submissions?
Likely by the time most or all CaS parts have been unlocked for the mode and the forums revamped for a SCIV submissions section. There will definitely be a wide announcement on the forums and through e-mail when SCIV submissions becomes available.

Should I start working on my forums points to prepare for the SCIV site?
You should continue to build your post and point totals on the forums, but we are expecting to reset point totals accumulated through the forums thus far in order to start fresh for SCIV.

Points build so far can still be used to submit SCIII submissions for BaneWolf's site, but they will most likely not be used for the SCIV site.

We've been really thinking of giving members the first SCIV CaS submission free, so you can maybe expect no work required other than forums registration to get your first CaS up on the site.

Can I see a full preview of the site as it stands?
No. The site's layout and pages is still massively under construction, so don't expect a full preview until much after in the month.

What will happen to BaneWolf's Soul Calibur III CaS Guide when Soul Gateway - Another Stage of History is out?
Nothing. Once Soul Gateway is out BaneWolf's and its entire contents will be preserved for people who wish to use its resources for SCIII CaS. For great convenience, you will be allowed to instantly switch back and forth between BaneWolf's and Soul Gateway as you please.

Got any comments, suggestions, anything you want added to the site?
Please post a reply in this thread!!

Lovely.

Now I need to save myself up $600 for PS3 and SCIV.

Just wait for the $399.99 80GB PS3 in September, and with SCIV it should only be about $460 you'll have to spend. :)

 I know this is off topic but, it's important that some of you know about this before spending your money on the new 80GB PS3 this September.

:ermm: Before anyone goes for that deal, you need to know it's not the current 80GB model. It is not a high end PS3 with all the features as you would expect! It's the low end PS3 with a slightly bigger but still obsolete HDD in it.

:/ Here's a quote from Sony's E3 presentation, "Starting in September we will launch an 80GB PS3 that has the same functionality as the current 40GB PS3."

:'( What's that mean? Basically, it means you won't get backwards compatability or the other high end features of the current 80GB PS3, you'll only be getting 40GB more HDD space & a low end PS3.

Here's some of what you loose to get that $100 price drop. You decide if it's worth that.
A. Backwards compatability with PSone and PS2 games.
B. 2x USB port
C. 1x Memory Stick slot
D. 1x SD Memory Card slot
E. 1x Compact Flash slot

 Don't buy a crippled PS3 if you don't like it, let Sony know it's unforgivable to take away the functionality of the PSone and PS2. Almost everyone is going to upgrade the HDD whether it's 40GB or 80GB anyway so just buy the currently available 40GB model if you don't mind having the crippled PS3, it's probably going to be cheaper anyway!

^_^ Regardless of which PS3 you buy, everyone should contact Sony and demand that they put back those features into every new PS3. At least the backwards compatability! They say they're listening to customer feedback, so let's see if that's true! Tell them the new PS3 isn't good enough!

:( Again, I'm sorry this was off topic. There's just a lot of people who want to get a PS3 now that SCIV is going to be released and I don't want them thinking they're getting a slight price drop when they're really getting a massive hardware downgrade! I know it's acceptable to some but, to many it's not acceptable and isn't even known!
This space intentionally left blank.

Off topic but informative, thanks for sharing the info. Personally I won't be getting this model since September is too long of a wait, but I'll probably be getting the current 40GB model so this bit of disappointment won't have an effect me.

I never really got into (or was otherwise aware of) the massive amount of really great CAS cameos for SCIII. I have to say, you have the best collection I've seen since discovering them. I'll definitely be looking forward to your SCIV creations.

The URL will be entirely different yes, since it will be hosted on an entirely different server. Don't worry about the address, as when the site opens you will have the option to go to the new site on BaneWolf's site.

A few updates:
  • Screenshots will be definitely be 1280x720 or 1920x1080 HD 16:9 progressive resolution each piece. Videos will be 1280x720 if possible, only since high resolution videos requires tremendous space and bandwidth.
  • First submission is free for everyone regardless of their points and participation on the forums, however forums registration will still be mandatory to submit the character.
  • Lots more focus on cameos compared to originals initially, alike with BWSCIIICG.
  • Site will still be a personal CaS site compared to a dynamic one, as with BWSCIIICG. This means there will be more focus on my own creations first, then later on other creators until it is other creators exclusively.
  • Site updates will occur about once to twice per week.
  • Fanart/fanfiction sections may be implemented at a later date.
  • PSN and Live ID will be provided optionally on the site on characters for the submitters.
  • Search will be initially offline and unusable.
  • Commenting may be initially offline as well.
  • I will start taking requests again on the forums for SCIV for cameos to add to the site.
  • BWSCIIICG may still be updated alongside the SCIV CaS site.

SITE WILL OPEN LATE AUGUST-MID SEPTEMBER, however NO LATER than that.

Who knows, I'll maybe even let you take over the site.

Reason I want to still update it however is that screenshots and videos can definitely be further enhanced with a HD capture device.

Eh? You mean it?? OwO

Anyways, the maximum output for PS2 using S-Video is 480i, right? Can component make it to 480p? BTW, you've notice that I already started a 16:9 screenshot? I hope it can be applied if possible :)

Once I get this darned cable company to fix my new cable line, I guess I can upload videos too! ^_^

You can do 480p with component correct, but the issue is that there's very little budget priced to mid range consumer capture devices that have component in. I have to spend about $300 for a device that can take component video in and output it in HD resolution. I'm hoping I'm able to upscale SCIII to 720p (perhaps possible on the PS3), since I've seen SCIII screenshots floating around that exceeds the maximum 640x480 resolution that looked pretty crisp.

And you have to be knowledged at HTML editing and using Dreamweaver CS2/CS3 to work on the site.
