I hijacked this idea from GameFAQs, but go with it. Original post by Allison5012: "There are a few Soul Calibur III spoilers here; part of the post involves one of the endings. We all already know the basics: the AI needs to be fixed and CotS was kind of half-baked. So I'm just going to let that stand and move on. Now... One. The Soul Calibur series is known for its (relatively) well-developed story and characters. This could stand to be expanded upon. Sure, we've got storyline filled in between games, and we've got endings from which we try to speculate what said between-game fillings will be canonical come the next game. Two. Tales of Souls was also kind of half-baked and certainly could have been better. So this brilliant idea just winged me in the head like a brick chucked in through the living room window by some juvenile delinquent. Instead of leaving development to largely be filled in between games, actually insert the development into the characters' story modes. It would capitalize on one of the series' strong points and improve the single-player experience at the same time. Instead of letting years pass between games, let years pass during them--I seriously doubt these folks are hitchhiking all the way from Spain to Japan and back again in three weeks, now. Instead of extra costumes just being extra costumes, relate one or two of them to the character's story--maybe some of them acquire scars, for instance. Instead of new weapons being something you just pick up at the weapon shop, make some of them part of the character's story, like Cassandra getting a new weapon after breaking the Digamma sword again in some significant fight. Here's one: unlockable moves, acquired as the character's skills increase or some event transpires in which they learn a new trick. Here's a meager example, cooked up on short notice (I'm not going to claim it's good; I'm just throwing out ideas): Character: Amy. Initial weapon: Albion. Initial costume: The one she wore in SCIII. Initial age: 12. Motivation for joining the roster: Raphael was possessed by the sword, and she seeks to save him. Development points: * Over the course of her story, she gets older. Let's say her quest takes three years, with her being 15 at the time of her final battle. She'll grow in size and gain muscle tone, gaining a longer reach and greater physical strength, but also gaining a larger hit box. * In a confrontation with a Cassandra hunting Raphael for reasons other than to save him, the Albion is broken. She's forced to finish the battle disarmed, and a punch is added to her movelist. Afterwards, she switches to the Estoc, and her costume changes to include scars on her hands and arms from defending herself from a sword bare-handed. Cassandra is established as an enemy in Amy's backstory. * Amy seeks Ivy out to learn what she knows about Soul Edge and how she may be able to save her father. After the requisite fight, be it testing or a misunderstanding, she learns what she wants to know. Among the knowledge is a spell to weaken Soul Edge's grip on its host, and she acquires a new move. Ivy is established as an ally in Amy's backstory. * Amy decides she needs to be better-equipped to take on Soul Edge. She gets herself a suit of light armour (a new costume). She also travels to Greece at Ivy's suggestion, in search of a better weapon. She fights and defeats Sophitia and explains her situation. Sophitia agrees to help and gets Rothion to forge a new rapier, the Fallen Antler, for Amy. Cassandra still distrusts Amy, and tension is created between the Alexandra sisters. Still, Sophitia and Rothion are established as tenuous allies in Amy's backstory. * In the confrontation with Raphael, the player is reminded of the move that Amy learned from Ivy, and it has increased effectiveness in this fight. Again, I was just tossing out some ideas. C'mon, folks. Let's hear more bright ideas about how single player could be spiced up." I think this is a good idea and might spark some interesting ideas. |

I'm as amazed as you are. ![]() How about one involving Zasalamel failing his ritual, and he gets a new body and fighting style? This happens each time until you succeed. |

sweet ideas here. when i first got sc3, i thought cots would be something like a real time rpg kinda like kingdom hearts where enemies show up and you fight them there and then, not switching to an sc style fight. i think that'd be a cool idea |

Well, is CotS exactly in-character with Soul Calibur 100%? They could have a hack and slash part, I'd be fine with that. I thought of one for Siegfried, where there's like, a mini-game withing Siegfried's mind where you must fight off the evils of Soul Edge when you get attacked by Nightmare, and if you fail, SC II Nightmare returns.

That'd be cool. Kinda like that Tekken 5 mini game and that one thing in Mortal Kombat? I would love that. But instead, it would be cool, imo, if you could use your own character. They should have made something like Kingdom Hearts, where you can use ur own cas, and two other customs as backup ppl (Like donald an goofy). Now that would be awesome |
