Hi

I bought some C / E class 16" wheels from e-bay, and they need to be refurbished.
The centres are in good condition and I am not willing to touch them now.
I want to do only the lips as the lacquer is peeling off.

Any advice on what grit should I use so I still provide a keyed surface for lacquer?
I ll sand the lips then but what is the best lacquer I can spray on the bare metal surface?
Acrylic? Enamel?
Has anyone tried This?

Any advice / input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Stu,

I brought the wheels at home, and took some shots.

the worst one, has some scratches on the lacquer but colour is still in tact.

and this one with lacquer being lifted at the lip.

I am thinking that, if cantres remain masked I will be able to lift the lacquer from the lip using paint remover and then apply fresh lacquer as there is no corrosion at the moment.
On the other hand there is some minor corrosion around the bores where they mate with the caps.
So I am considering doing a full refurb, but painting the centres black.

Could someone photoshop these wheels with black centres and polished lips??? :$ :$ :$ :$

Well... one more question for these wheels :$ :$ :$ :$

Can I apply fresh 2k lacquer on top of the original lacquer? (I will sand old lacquer first with 800 or 1200 grit wet paper)
I don't really want to touch the paint if I can save it. I am just looking to the possibility of finishing the job by re-lacquering the entire wheel.

Should I expect reaction between old lacquer with the new one?

Please forgive my ignorance on paints.... :(

Should be fine as long as you key it and degrease it before lacquering.
