Chaps, Since getting the 2.6 MOT'd I have only driven her the 25 miles back from the regular MOT garage I use. During the drive both there and back I noticed the autobox changes are less than Mercedes smooth. I know on my other auto's if they ever felt slightly jerky or rough on change up/down usually a gearbox oil and pan filter changes certainly straightened them up some what but this one is harsher than I have ever been used to. No loud bangs but it shoves you in the back when changing in botn directions. Now firstly just wanted to know if most of you concur that an oil and filter change should really help the box out? Also is there any further adjustments I may need to make to regain the desired smoothness? If so what are they? I think I will also change the diff oil any reccomnedations on what oil to use I have used millers in the coupe and no complaints there just wondered if there are any other reccomendations Si |

Hi Simon , On the side of the 'box is a pressure adjuster screw , its underneath a rubber cover and you can turn it by hand . ( Dont ask me which way tho' ) . It could also be that the vacuum pipe has corroded and is leaking . I am sure that while you are there a change of oil and filter would always be advisable . HTH Jeremy |

Could this adjuster or vacuum pipe leak cause a perfectly good autobox to just start slipping in every gear. |

Chris , I had this " slippage " problem in my 320 coupe , all the garage did was to flush & change the transmission filter & oil , then all was fine . The adjuster works on the pressure of the change AFAIK , for example my 2.6 tranny had up-changes that banged in , once we slacked off the pressure it improved 100% . Let us know how you get on . The thing is though is that iirc the slipping came on after the car was sat for a few months it was perfectly fine before that and the oil has been changed within the last 2 years and the car hasn't done many miles in that period. |
