Having recently changed ny transmission cover from gery to black and adding a black taxi style console I have been considering replacing the entire interior with black. However, I am a little worried it may look too dark and even too hot in the summer. I originally wanted a full sportline interior (yes I know I hard they are to come by!) But I also like the leather 16v 2+2 seats. Has anyone experimented with mix and match eg leaving carpet grey but having black leather seats etc? Do black interior door cards work with grey MB tex seats? With my my car being a light blue, Im not sure if a full 16v interior with the red in the check would work? What works and what does not? Pictures appreciated. Regards. Stu |

Not so many people have mix-n-match interiors, but I think one could be a worthy experiment. If you have Grey MB-Tex seats, and a black Dash & Console / Trans-Tunnel cover, then I think Black Doorcards could work as long as you keep the Carpets & Mats in Grey. You would possibly need to change the A, B & C-pillar covers to Black. Try Black Door-sill Kick-plates too, but the Grey ones might work better as the felt door seals on your car are probably Grey. MB really left few stones unturned when changing interior colours, and it's not always a good thing imo. I find a lot of the coloured interiors (Red, Green, Blue and even Tan) a bit overpowering as there isn't much contrast left in there. Have a look at 1980s Ferrari and Alfa interiors to get ideas. Here are two Ferrari TestaRossas, I love the schemes in here - lots of visual depth and contrast. Quite simple really, the hard black functional areas wrap around driver & passenger, and the soft surfaces have the colour. ![]() ![]() |

Too much black in a car with no air con = recipe for perspiration on hot days - in my opinion. Looks a bit gloomy too. Leather seats always give rise to more misting up of the inside of the glass too - even in summer. Black leather 16v seats with grey carpets & door cards would be a nice contrast. Just make sure you keep the original seats. Also if you go for 16v seats, make sure you have the front armrest for those days when you want just to cruise around. Good luck whatever you decide to do - at the end of the day it's your car to do as you wish. |

I can see why MB had contrasting seat and door panels with their 16 interiors and also the cloth sportline. It seems black with beige/cream seats would work better than the other way around. Need to get this right as it cold be an expensive 'experiment'! Thanks for the advice and pics. Keep em coming! Stu |

I went from grey to black, bit by bit. I found black seats and grey carpets didnt work. It draws your eye down and you notice the less aesthetically pleasing bits, bonnet release, chair mechanisms etc. So after the seats I did the carpets. I left it like that for a while and then did the doorcards and trans tunnel. Which I preffered black. Then came the parcel shelf and B/C pillars. So now its all black apart from the A pillar covers and the visor area trim. All black with a tiny bit of grey to make it slightly less gloomy from the drivers position. |

I can see what you mean Kenny - but I'm wondering if the carpets were left grey but with black floormats it might add just enough contrast? Im going to end up all black arent I? Stu |
