This is one for you detailing buffs (get it )I want to T-cut the car, just to fill in any scuffs and mainy to bring a bit more colour into it. I'll be using Colour Fast Do I, wash -> T-cut -> polish -> (mabe wax if I have time) or because T-cut claims to be wax as well, do I wash -> polish -> T-cut? Thanks |

If you're talking about this load of old cr*p...![]() ...you may as welll pour it straight down the drain for all the good it does. Utter, utter garbage. I bought a bottle the week I got my 190 (it was fading, my Dad was not so keen on polishing and buffing it when he had it and was more a 5-minute Jet Wash bloke). Anyway, to summarise; - Gets absolutely everywhere, and does a better job of colouring your black/grey trim than re-colouring your paint. - Little or no cutting / polishing action at all, and does a p!ss-poor job of filling in light scratches. - Doesn't add any protection, and you'll take most of it off next time you wash the car. - Does a fine job of dyeing rags, and whatever clothes you have on, the colour of your car. Do yourself a very big favour and spend a few quid extra on Auto Glym or Meguiar's. |

Oh right. Fair enough. Surely though, it must have some use, otherwise it wouldn't be popular? I'll just stick with AG then I think. As for claying, I can't be hooped plus I don't have the time. |

I think that it sells because of the name. Would be interesting to find out how many people ever buy more than one bottle. AG stuff really suits MB paint & trim, the top products being Paint Renovator, Super Resin Polish and Bumper Care imo. |

Super resin polish is really good stuff. I just decided to do a few panels at a time each night after work and it transformed the car. It seemed to go on and come off easier than other products I have used. This has led me to purchase more AG products and so far I have not found one I dont like! I did however think that the coloured turtle wax (white) that I used on the car afterwards helped to hide some of the lesser swirl marks. I have had the pleasure of seeing car paintwork being professionally polished up with a rotary polisher and the results are blinding. I really think it would be worth considering paying to get it done professionally and using that as a starting point to keep on top of in years to come. Stu |

I use a lot of Meguiars products and have always recommended them to others. Autoglym is excellent also. The 3 step system from Meguiars is a very good starting point. |

The thing is with that Colour T-Cut gear, you need to T-Cut past the lacquer. You could rub the whole car down with it and it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference unless the lacquer has peeled off completely. |

What I meant was, there simply is no point in using that particular brand of t-cut unless you have no laquer left on your paintwork. Dab a bit on, rub in little circles on your bonnet. It does f*ck all doesnt it? thats because you need to use it on paintwork that has no lacquer, i.e fooked, for it to work |

I was pulling your leg, I knew what you meant ![]() normal compound will remove slight scratches from clearcoat but not revitalise paint colour, but on a direct gloss car (not clearcoated-like my white 190 was) you will remove the oxidised layer from the surface. T-cut contains ammonia i'm led to believe which is about as good for paint as wearing pink hotpants is for your reputation. |

cue a couple of pics of the Aldi fella My experience with t-cut was trial and error with a milky signal red. I thought any car would come up gleaming off t-cut after we did my dads old vauxhall once. There's definitely better ways to bring it up good |

I had a 1999 astravan which needed such regular cutting the primer became visible in places! The only way to cure a faded red vauxhall is to paint it another colour

hi , i don,t know where these people are coming from most of them talk crap i have worked in body-shops for years. T-cut does what it says on the tin . it,s not meant to polish it,s a fine abrasive not much different than the old brasso we used to use that years ago . modern body-shops use what they call compound {that's rubbing compound} it comes in fine/ med /course/ i would recommend getting some one who knows what they are doing to sort your paint work out. BE WARNED IF YOU TRY WITH A POLISHING WHEEL I CAN GARANTEE YOU WILL COCK IT UP YOU WILL GO RIGHT THROUGH THE PAINT ON THE CORNERS but it,s your car it,s up to you . go to your local paint shop and talk to them. don't listen to idiots on this web site . i know i will upset some people but i tell it like it is . one more thing i have been painting and polishing cars for 40 years so no bull S/// please. ...BOB.. |

Bob , since you have been here for all of 9 whole posts , you have formed a very quick opinion that " we are all idiots ", I doubt that we will be hearing from you again , but in case you do decide to post again on here , then why don't you give us all the benefit of your 40 years experience ? I am sure that us idiots would all benefit from your wise words . This will be your first factual contribution to our site , so , tell us how it's done . You could start by giving us a Masterclass in cleaning , preparation etc., then tell us exactly what products we will need , where to get them , how much to pay . Please post lots of piccies & videos . When you have finished we will pin it so that it can be shown to all as THE way to do it . Jeremy Edited by jeremy, Thu Nov 5, 2009 7:49 am.

good evening Jeremy. now first of all i did not call anyone an idiot. but it was plane that Gary-B was getting bad advice and all that i told him was 100% correct . i don,t know him and i don,t know his job , he can probably do that better than me but i do know paint. as for a master class well i,ve done that and i got paid well for it . i,ve retired now and don't work as such any more that is it so far as t/cut goes. so if you want to talk about anything that's ok but not t/cut . one last thing 1 post 9 posts or 1000 posts i tell it how i see it . bob. |

Oh yes you did!!! ![]() As far as the advice given in this thread i can find no bad advice, bar one cockup from Everton about tcutting past the lacquear???? All the other posts are against tcut and recommend superb and effective products for polishing and restoration. I found your post highly amusing and your opinion of the forum members a little offensive. I do hope you dont stay around too long! Oh and by the way i also tell it like it is!

Mark it still is one of the friendliest and helpful forums around with some of the most knowledgeable and likeable people you could wish to meet. You coming back is just the icing on the cake. I guess some people are not happy unless they are involved in abuse and confrontation in which case there are plenty of other forums which would better suit their needs.

I thought everyone knew T-cut was garbage? 40 years experience didnt get you far - there are much better products out there. I have somewhat less experience, dont class myself as an expert, admit when i'm wronga and don't appreciate being called an idiot. Edited by Richy190E, Thu Nov 5, 2009 9:12 pm.

Getting back on topic I have four cars all of which were pretty neglected when i first got them. Apart from the blue one they have all been clay barred to remove accretions. the next stage was to use auto glyn paint restorer, polish and then wax followed by a sealing coat. I also use maguiars and would have no hesitation recommending them. The secret in restoring depth to your paintwork is patience. Go through the process from start to finish over a period of weeks. Never use detergents to wash the car and build up a good depth of wax. Cleaning regularly also helps. I am certainly no expert but am often complimented on the depth of colour and finish on my cars. |

Now Now children. Behave. My only experience is the meguiars 3-step thing. I clayed and used the clean, polish, wax steps on my old 924 and it really transformed the car from a shabby-looking thing to a gorgeous black porsche I did it all in one day and had sore arms for a week !I did try t-cut a few years ago and gave up after one panel. Seemed to be very difficult to remove properly. Good luck. |

T-Cut is a left over from the good old days when cars had no clear coat, every day was sunny, and beer cost 2 bob a pint (10p). It was crap then but apart from brasso it was all the average motorist could get! We have so much choice now its ridiculous, from Autoglym and Meguiers, through Poorboys and 3M, to Zymol and Swissvax. Even semi proffesional products and tools are available to the average person so they can create mayhem to their paintwork learning how to use it!! Cheaper polish and waxes tend to leave deposits unlike the more expensive products. Simple rule is to go with what you get on with! Edited by Big Ben, Fri Nov 6, 2009 12:38 pm.
