Which o-rings have the potential to leak on WVO?

Hi Guys,

I am noticing the inevitable oil patch on the road where the car has been parked. Had a look under the car and there is a drop of VO forming on the bottom of the sump. Don't know exactly where it's coming from yet, but would like to change all the o-rings with potential to leak in one hit if I can.

So which would these be?

I know of main oil filter o-rings, but what else? And what sizes and where to get them from if anyone had experience?

Yeah they're called Viton O Rings. You're going to need a special Merc tool to remove the pressure valves too.

If you read through Nezamr's thread that he started for the GTG we had it's full of info about these O Rings including links to walkthroughs on how to do them.

Nope :(

I'm sure I desperatly need them doing though I get oil patches on the floor too and everything else is leak free.

The original rubber ones are pennies from MB but I want some of the Viton ones as the rubber ones will probably fail after 6 months again. I think the ones that Reza bought to the GTG wern't the correct size and the job wasn't as easy as we initially thought as you have to take your time and make sure everything is nice and clean so we didn't do them in the end.

I think they're minimum order so maybe we could get some together if your up for it, maybe even do them together if you want.

I was up for geting a professional to do the job but I was quoted 120, call me tight but I thought that was a bit steep...

Well I work during the week so weekends are the only option for me (although these are usually spent renovating my house). Do you know what size we are after? I'm gonna take the air filter off if it's still light when I get home and take a closer look.

Not sure on the size although I can measure the original merc ones.

The inlet manifold will have to come of in order to change them though, not much pouint in taking the airfilter off unless you're actually going to start the job, you can see if they are leaking from the top.

The problem with the veg leaking from there though is that it all drips down the side of the pump, engine block and then sits in the recess where the bolt is in the top of the engine mount, soaking the mount and eventually eating the rubber away as in the case of mine and causing it to calapse in on itself :P

I'll see if I can do anything on the weekend front and let you know.

The ones i got were the closest size to the originals! The viton was slightly thicker and the hole in the middle slightly smaller, so when stretched slightly, they were the same size! The hole was only 1-2mm smaller unstretched!

If this is an inlet manifold off job, and fiddly with cleanliness very important, I think I'll do it in my parent's garage. Would love for you all to join me but don't think it would go down too well with the old man-he is reluctant enough me taking his Caterham 7 out of the garage to get the Merc in anyway.

I shall take pics when I get round to it, and put up a post.

I am up for doing the group buy on the seals though, or buying some off you nezamr?

I THINK BS112V75 is the right size to use, but i havent changed mine yet, so cannot be definate.

MY DISCLAIMER:

BUY THESE O RINGS AT YOUR OWN RISK....I ONLY THINK THESE ARE RIGHT SIZE. SOME MIGHT SAY IT WOULD BE BEST TO STICK WITH THE OEM ONES AS THEY LAST 100K + MILES.

As Kenny and Chris can tell you, viton is not always better (as we found out when i couldnt get the bolt with viton o rings out of my fuel filter!)

I had a major leak today.
At the last injector thingy on the block there is fuel in and fuel out, the fuel out on the last injector has a blanking rubber bung.
Mine perished and allowed diesel/SVO to be pumped out everywhere and caused a lot of smoke.
Luckly I had some spare fuel line stuff so I cut off a length and screwed a screw in the top to seal it.
It seams to be stopping the leak.

As its a rubber stopper I would reccomend that you lot check yours in case its perished.

you can buy kits from motor discount stores richy...................that contain the pipes( all 4 ) that go from one injector to another and the rubber bung that goes on the end injector for about £3 ;)

Was it just the bung that perished?

Thanks for letting us know.

Its quite common, mine had gone too, I did exactly the same as rich, a bit of rubber hose and a bolt in the end.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily I had a spare rubber bung. Any updates on those O rings. I would like to replace them before it gets worse. I can see a small leak now and its after 3000 miles on WVO
