Hi! I've found some perfect wheels for my 190E. They are 8x17 ET40 front and 9x17 ET45 rear. Will this fit on my 16v? :) He was not 100% sure about the ET, but will check that. Any input?

You may need 5mm spacers on the front and 10mm on the rear

I think Rich is probably spot on with his advice. Them are some big wheels! I assume the centre bore is correct?

Have you thought about the correct tyre sizes yet as this will also factor in on rubbing issues.

Don't forget the issue of longer bolts being required to compensate for the spacers.

Personally I would not like to fit more than 10mm of spacers from a safety point of view.

Are you able to try fitting before you buy?

Stu

EDIT - Any pictures of the 'perfect' wheels?

Thanks! Spacers and longer bolts are no problem if 9x17 if possible to fit. :) I have not thought about tire sizes yet, but the fronts are no problem I guess. Any suggestions for the rear? I'll post pics tomorrow :)

You may get away with those offsets, worth checking before you buy the spacers, just in case. Its quite close.

Ok. I'll try them on before I buy spacers then. Here is a picture of the wheels:

Looking very nice, are these the Compomotive TH1780, or are these oz's?

They are Bridgestone DTM. The offset is 46 front (on 8x17) and 42 rear (on 9x17). Will it still fit?

Never knew bridgestone made wheels also, do they still make them?

You could see with a calculator if it will fit:

I think the biggest problem would be the inner clearance, you can solve that with spacers?

They are quite rare from what I've found out, and there is very little information to find about them... But the Bridgestone logo is clearly "stamped" into the back of the wheels. As far as I know they do not make them anymore.. Thanks for the link! :)

9s are very very wide for a 190.

You might have to run pretty narrow tyres over a rim like that I would think, if the wheels physically fit.

In short - if these really are the wheels of your dreams then I guess you can probably make them fit with enough time/money/work etc. But I think that if there's other similar wheels available in a slightly narrower fitment you might be better with those.

Hmmm... I'm a little unsure now. The rims would look really great on the car and I absolutely love them! But it would really suck to use that much money on a set of rims if they don't fit... :-/ I really have to do some thinking! What do you guys think if I run 235-tires rear?

235 is pushing it, I think merc190uk did for a bit but I seem to remember he had rubbing.

I had 225s on without significant rubbing. I think with a 9j wheel you would need to taper in at the edge, perhaps 215.

May not be of any use but I find this calculator gives quite a lot more info.......... http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/rt_specs.jsp

Otherwise go for a set of compomotive TH1780, they are 17 inch and 8j, you can choose ET from 15-40.

They look almost the same.

Hmmm. I'll check if there is any chance to try them before I buy them, but I'm afraid it won't be possible since he lives on the other side of the country... I'll check if anyone has some wheels in 9x17 for another car or something just so I can try it on the 190. :) I won't give up if there is a chance! The Compomotive might be a good second choice though. :) Thanks for the tip, Jack!

Well, I did some testing yesterday with the wheels from my Honda. Just testfitted it with some special bolts. I don't know what they are called in English... The wheels are 9x17 ET45, so 3mm different from the ones I'm considering to buy. The tires that are on the testwheels at the moment are Dunlop 245/40-17. To my surprise, it actually went well! It was really close on the inside, but it actually didn't touch from what I could feel. :) I will try to do some more testing with the car on a lift in not too far future if I get the chance. But with the offset 3mm lower than the ones I test fitted, and maybe a 235 tire, I see no problem fitting 9x17 rear at the moment :)
Took some pics, but they didn't get so good as it was getting dark when I tested it...

If you are worried about the tyre rubbing then stretch a 185 on there, nothing to worry about, if you want any help then may i suggest you pay a visit to the forum at wheel whores

We are a friendly bunch and all questions will be answered.

Regards

 I seriously hope you were joking, Nathan!

185 tread on a 9" rim = :X :X :X

cmnyen, you might have to go to a 225 or 215 treadwidth, but the offset and 40-profile looks good ;)

From what I could see on sunday, it should be fine with a 235 actually. I'll check a little bit closer, but I think and hope it will fit. I would like to have as little strech as possible.. :)
