Water in the boot.; Leaking boot lid

When I open the boot when the car is wet, like after its been raining, the when the lid is just over half open water streams out of the LH strengthening rib, the one that carries the hinge. Where does it come from, does the boot lid seal need replacing or is it coming in through the 190e badge? Any one had the same problem?

Could be your boot lock seal. pennies to replace. it you put your hand under the boot below the lock and slide it along to the left you will find a tiny bung in the lowest part of the lid. Pull it out and see if it drains. If it does it is the boot lock seal. Water also gets into the boot from the pillar vents if the silicone beads have dried out. Remove the vent cover with one screw in the door jam and have a look. Remove hard silcon and replace in same locations with new.

Yes mate,
Many people had that problem and there are some threads on this.

I had this problem on mine too.
I fixed that by replacing the boot lid seal.
But water can enter from the badge and the lock seal as well.
Additionally if you have fitted a spoiler using bolts you may need to re-seal those areas.

Great, thanks for that, the forecast is heavy rain for tomorrow so I'll try it when it stops.

Agreed, most likely to be the bootlock seal, about a pound I think. You can also remove a little rubber bung in the bootlid that sits just above the rear left lense. If you remove it the water is allowed to drain out.

It certainly could be the boot seal as they compress over the years allowing water to leak in and in to the framework of the boot lid.

One more thing to check that's even cheaper...

Mine was doing this because the drain hole (left hand edge of boot) was blocked. Emptied it and all is good once more!
