2.6 Fuel Pump Relay; Have I got the right one fitted?

The fuel pump relay in my car has the following part number:- 003 545 24 05

Can any members with a 2.6 and who know for sure they have the right part let me know if their part number matches please?

I'm convinced the car still hangs in the redline on full kickdown. Surely the upchange should occur as soon as the redline is hit?

When I bought the car I had to back off on the accelerator to get the upchange as she sat in the red until I reduced the revs. The fuel pump relay that was fitted had the part numbers erased. I figured it was probably a 16v relay hence the high revving.

Now Im not convinced my bargain ebay buy is quite right!

Remind me where the fuel pump relay is located, what it looks like and I'll check the part number against both of mine.

If you are stood looking at the battery from the front of the car the fuel pump relay is situated to the left and back of the battery.

Its a grey/black rectangular box a bit bigger than a pack of 20 cigarettes that sits upright and is fixed in from the bottom.

The part number should be printed across the top.

EDIT - I think the part numbers for an auto are different from a manual and its the auto I need thanks.

Yeah the manual and Auto ones are different, i think i've got one off my old 2.6 Manual somewhere which is no good for you though.

Two almost identical cars may not even have the same part number. The only way I know for sure is to ring the dealer, give them your VIN and see what they prescribe as a replacement. To be honest I am never 100% sure of dealers anyway, but its safer than a similar car.

Stu - checked both cars. Both are 2.6 autos and have the same part # 003 545 2405, so looks like you've got the right one.

The auto gearbox cars go into the red line by 200rpm before they change gear on full throttle. On the 16 valve manual they hit the rev limiter at 7200rpm, which is 200rpm into the 7000rpm red line.

It's perfectly normal. If you somehow manage to go past the end of the red line is when you want to start worrying about potential engine damage.

I'm afraid I've never noticed; the neb of my flat cap prevents me from seeing that part of the rev counter. I do seem to remember, before my hearing went, they both sang very nicely above 4,000 rpm. Anything above 5,500 rpm sets my hearing aid to whistling, so that's how I know it's time to slip it up a gear. Luckily the 2.6 has a very smooth engine, or my false teeth would start rattling, which the young female staff at the home find very amusing - can't think why?

Sorry - got to go, need to take my tablets and if I don't get to the loo, I'll be up in the middle of the night (again).
