Hi, I have a strange problem with the steering on my 93 190e 2.0,it seems to have a block in it when i am turning then it sort of clears and at other times it almost seem to steer itself, especially to the right. The alignment has been checked and all the steering arms are tight,i am thinking steering box or lines to pump.Anybody got any ideas ? |

When it come to steering and you ain't sure what the problem is, it's time to get a professional to check it out propertly. |

Fluid level is a good starting point. And the power steering filter in the resevoir can give clues on the pumps condition. |

the pump or the steering box should not cause steering towards left or right. I would first check wheels/tyres, then move to front wheel bearings, and then all other components from tie rods to idlers etc. |

Could be worth checking the steering damper ? I dont know much about it myself but its cheap and easy to replace. If its locking up it may feel as you describe ? Not sure. |

Having had a failed ball joint whilst driving I would suggest you check them both outbefore you drive the car any further and if in any doubt have both replaced |

Until you get confirmation, avoid full lock, particularly when going backwards. Most ball joints fail when parking or doing slow sharp manouvers. |
