With car on the ground remove damper bolt using 7mm alum key and 22mm spanner

Jack car up and the top of the damper will withdraw through the mount. You should now be able to put your hands in over the top of the wheel. Grasp damper and pull down and towards you to free from mount. Undo three bolts on mount and remove from underneath.
Posted Image
Put new mount in from underneath and locate three fixed bolts into fixing holes. Tighten
Posted Image
from underneath line the damper up with the hole in the top mount and gradually lower the jack until the top of the damper appears through the hole in the mount. Lower car on jack and replace top bolt on damper and tighten
Repeat other side.

The consensus of those watching was that the ARB held the front lower arm and thus the spring in place.

10 mins each side. Hope people find this helpful

Aftermarket in this case (GSF). As the originals have been in there from new (146K) I do not think there will be an issue with quality. I have already used the same mounts in my Bornite with Sportline Springs and shocks. Absolutely fine. Certainly a good idea to change the ARB bushes at the same time and tighten the whole front end up. See other post for walk through.

Very happy but keep it quiet mate. You will soon have every 190 owner within 100 miles booking your Saturdays up for the next six months then where would I be? ;)

Great write-up.
Is there just one hardness of Top-Mount then, or are your new ones Sportline-specific, Andy?

Both GSF and ECP seem to just have the one spec top mount. Will check MB Parts. Because it is a quick and cheap job to do I wasn't too fussed as the old ones were shot and the new ones a huge improvement.

does the tracking need to be done afterwards?

No movement on mine that needed re alignment. Cannot see how it can affect it. You are only dealing with the top of the damper so no change to any of the parts that alter alignment . The damper pivots freely on the ball joint. If I was just lucky no doubt someone will correct me.

if it does alter the tracking it would be such a minimal amount to almost be negligble and not worth trying to adjust out

about £20 each, mine were £38 for 2 from ebay. I was actually surprised to find it moves more after I changed them !! On my old ones although they were cracked the rubber was harder due to ageing. Now when I push the car sideways I can see the top of the shocks moving slightly.

WHAT £30 for genuine ones- from where/how!!!? My car is booked in to get them (and anti-roll bar bushes checked!) changed next week and I've just priced some at the Merc garage where I worked. £90+ each side!!!!

So, I was going to ask if the Lemforder ones from Europarts are any good, as the specialist doing the work tells me that non-mercedes suspension parts are best avoided? I also had pattern wishbones fitted to my BMW and they were proper Sh***t - they felt rubbish from day one and then wore out within 20k miles, so I don't want to go down that road again!!

Anyone have any good advice aside from the previous thread comments?
