My brother just came and told me about a sudden problem with his steering.

The story goes back to last January. He was driving a bit drunk and had an accident with a pavement, which he had to change the alloy cause was broken. It lost its alignment, but never bothered to arrainged it than. Today told me that after sometime driving, from the same position that he had the accident in was coming a very loud noise, than a big noice like a chain or keys coming off and falling. He stopped and tried to see if something had been fallen. But he couldnt see anything. Then when he tried to drive it again the steering was very very hard to turn left and right.
While the gear is free and the engine is not in idling speed the steering is very loose, as it should be, but when he drives the steering comes very hard, and the more he accelerates the more harder it gets. The car is equipt with power steering.

Anyone have any hints? Still did not drive it in person, cause the car is not here right now. Tomorrow morning I'm going to the garage and go and have a spin with it and see whats the problem.

So anyone can guide me a bit?

Thanks a lot guys!

Well the main problem is ...................................................IT'S A PEUGEOT!!! lmao

Sounds like a broken wheel bearing or steering arm is causing too much toe-out on one side! ;)

Does it drive in a straight line??

He just old me that. the car drives in a straight line and that the steering if left turned, it stays like that! He have to turn it back with a lot of force!

Hope this helps!

Since it is front wheel drive, there are a lot of parts to damage.

Since the impact was hard enough to smash a wheel, he really should have got it checked out. Peugeots are not exactly over-engineered, so it is likely smashed to bits under there. Bent wishbone, destroyed track rod, damaged rack, ball joints and track rod end fubar, bent strut, damaged wheel bearing, twisted drive shaft, ruined outer CV, broken inner CV, even the hub itself could be bent. Take your pick.

It needs to be lifted up and examined fully. And I would strongly suggest no-one drives it, except at a crawl to somewhere with a lift.

It depends what is broken :(

If you know somewhere that will let you lift the car up (A garage with a lift), you can examine it yourself and see what is broken (compare it with the other side).
Then you can price up any parts needed and decide if it is something you could do yourself.

You may be able to find somewhere that will examine the car and give you a quote for fixing it. They should not charge you for having a look and giving you a price.

My friend has a Citroen Saxo, this is basically a Peugeot 106. He smashed his wheel and bent the bottom arm. We replaced the arm ourselves in his drive. It wasn't particularly difficult or expensive.

The damage may not be too bad. I hope it isn't.

The result is that he have all the front loosen out. When he accelerates or stops, both front tyres just like start moving front and rear. Anyway its at the mechanic getting sorted.

Coming back my steering now was playing :/. When turn hard on left some small squeaking comes from under the left passenger footrest. Could be suspension or a bearing?

I'm glad the Peugeot is being sorted. I hate to think it would be dangerous for your brother.

Put your car on level ground. Start it, leave it in Neutral with the handbrake on. Turn the steering slowly all the way left and all the way right. If you hear a creaking like an old heavy wooden door, it could be the ball-joints. These do not last forever and need changing sometimes. If it is the ball-joints don't leave it, as they have been known to fail and snap right off :o
