Extra large pre filter

I got a bunch of these recently. They are the normal style inline fuel diesel filters only flippin large. Saves having to change them so often. There is plenty of room down there so easily enough space for it.

Its hard to be sure but I reckon it should last about 3-4 times as long as the standard size. Nice and clear too so you can see when its clogged.

I had to buy 10 so if anyone wants one drop me a PM. They have the added bonus of an 8mm in/out that steps up to 10mm. So you can really push that hose on good and proper and stretch it over the 10mm, clamping it on the 8mm.

Only disadvantage I can see is the extra weight of the fuel inside may put slight strain on what it connects too. And assuming you havent bypassed it then this will be the vulnerable plastic fuel thermostat connection. I have relocated mine up above the airbox anyway so you can see exactly what state the fuel and the filter is in.

And no, the TDK SA90 is not for sale, its my kenny ken junglist tape, for scale only :)

i'll have one too. If you want to swap for some wvo, i have plenty! I was thinking if you, chrismatheou, rich27 and any other diesel drivers wanted to have a diesel gtg sometime soon, i can provide some wvo to cover the traveliing and i've got loads of viton o rings to plug all those air leaks!

In time for the cold weather!!

Yes to both of you :)

I am defo up for some viton seals, you got one for the centre bolt of the canister filter ? I had mine go in the pouring rain up an alp and it took me ages to work out where it was leaking. Ny pure fluke there was one included with the spare filter I got. ECP dont normally have them included. How many do you want nezamr ? They arent reusable although I dare say you could back flush them with paraffin. Shall I hang on to it or post it ?

And dont worry about the cold, dr tronix has a little something up his sleeve. Details to be confirmed once I am sure I am not a tw4t and got it all wrong :) lmao

i've replaced both the o rings in the canister filter with viton ones. I've got some that are actually better than the original, slightly thicker and a tighter seal. I'll put some to one side for you.

If everyone agrees on the gtg soon, could you hang onto the pre filter till then? I'll have just the one if thats ok?

I'm sure whatever invention you come up with will also end up doing the rounds on other merc forums like your baby bottle warmer!!

Yeah whenever you're ready mate, sometime late this week would be perfect for me tbh although short notice... :D

What's your thoughts guys, up for setting a date now?

What's that tool that we need to remove the 'pressure valve seals' as mercedes call them then? You got the ebay link for it?

Where did you get these from Kentronix? And can you suggest what canister filter to get and where from?

I got em off ebay, I think a search for "large diesel filter" will through it up. Although if your coming to the GTG your welcome to at least 1 at cost. I still havent looked it up but its somewhere between £2-£3 each.

I now get my filters from eurocarparts because the last couple have included the rubber O-ring for the centre bolt. Until I get a non rubber one I want to know I have the odd spare every few changes. I would have been stranded in hockenheim if it werent for the fact I randomly had an O-ring included in the filter box.

The trick with canisters really is to get the knack of changing em and carry 2 spares. A small screw up in your home filter will only show itself when on the road, when its too late to buy spares. I am sure I dont need to tell you this, we should all probably get together for a group buy of canisters. If they are the larger type (some are not as tall) and contain the o-ring I would be well up for bulk buying. The less high canisters seem ok but my baby bottle warmer doesnt fit them very well.

Yeah I would never drive my 306 without a spare fuel filter. Hazard of being a home WVO brewer.

That's why I'm keen to get sorted with spare filters for the Merc before I start driving it properly (still using 306). Haven't even had a chance to investigate the filters on the car yet. There are 2 though right; a canister and an inline one like above?

Yep I'l take one off you at the GTG. I'd be up for a group buy too on the canister. Cheers for the eurocarparts tip-that's handy because they havea trade account for me there for some reason-it must be the overalls I turn up in.

Technically 3 filters. One "strainer" thats located at the bottom of the fuel tank, where the output is. These are pretty hard to change on the 190 and after 20 years or so its advisable to keep it in mind. Then the prefilter (as in the pic) which is very easy. Just remove the airbox and its all totally obvious. Then the canister filter (by the rad top hose) which is pretty easy although if the engine is hot the water hose is pumped up solid and its a bit awkward tp ease the canister out. Its easier on the 2.0 than the 2.5.

The 190d is self priming unless a gimp has reworked the system to feed the engine heated veg back to the filter, which although a good idea in theory, causes the self priming to fail. Its quite common, my 300td had it when I got it.

Please don't tell me this is a tank out job?

I ditched the tank strainer completely from my 306. was very easy though as acess can be had by just lifting the rear seats.

You can do it from under the car but its pretty awkward as its located above the diff area. I took the tank out which in actual fact isnt particularly hard on a 190 but its a strain on the back getting it out the boot.

it's very messy from underneath on the 190's but quite do-able! The problem with the ones under the 300td is the towbar in the way!!!
