Hi, im just wanting to get some feedback from forum members as to what you would recommend I do about my cars sound system. The car was fitted with 3800 pounds worth of audio equipment in 1999. its a full kenwood system with a 10-stack cd in the boot, 4 inch speakers in the front, 6 inch in the back and tweeters (which seem to do nothing) in the a-pillars. also, next to the sunroof switches on either side theres little silver mesh circles, are these meant to be tweeters as well? cos i cant hear anything from them.

Pretty much the sound is terrible, clarity for things like classical music is great, but i put on a song with the slightest bit of bass and there just isnt any, and if i turn it up it goes very very crackly and horrible.I tried adjusting the bass via the head unit, but it does nothing, and it lists the bass as running at 100hz, which ive been told is WAY too high to get decent bass, and theres no way to change it.

Pretty much im looking for options, i dont mind keeping the current system if i can get decent sound out of it, but then again, im not married to the 10-stack cos a more modern mp3-cd with aux-in would suit be much better, and im not a fan of opening the boot to change discs.

I dont want to spend a huge amount and would prefer to avoid taking up any room in the boot or serious cutting/modifying.

I want decent bass and ok sound, but im no audiophile, i jusy want to be able to turn it up when im in the mood and not be hearing crackly distorted crap

If your speakers are crackling , it could be one of two causes , the first could be blown speaker cones , the other could be the built-in amp in your head-unit could be u/s .

well, pretty much what i was thinking was a more modern head unit and decent 4in speakers in the front and 6's in the back. just seemed like a waste to get rid of the 10-stack cos if all the work that went into the installation all those years ago.

is there any way to attach a new head unit to the stacker unit in the boot? cos to be honest, all my car in oz had is a decent pioneer head unit and modern speakers in the original holes. and this was fine with me so i dont need anything fancy

2 mesh things are prop alarm sensors tbh

as for £3800 of audio equipment that is a lot so would expect more than is in the car now.

speekers only last x amount of time and same with head unit so prob time for a fresh set up

think u can get adaptors, depends on the system u use but would have to stick with the same make of headunit which u may not want to do. check to see if speeker cables were changed as that makes quite a difference

yeah, i was suprised at the cost as well, but ive got receipts to prove it lol, so either one of the previous owners was a bit of an idiot or it really was something special at the time

the brand is kenwood, so to be honest i wouldnt mind just using an adaptor and buying the same brand. they seem to have some reasonably priced stuff of ok quality

ive always wanted a kickass sound system but never been able to justify the cost. but id still like something half decent with at least OK bass. cos it annoys me that my 25 quid pc speakers crap all over those in my car

logitech should make a car kit lol! the bass is unreal for 25 pounds haha

If it's any use to you, I have a virtually brand new Sony CDX-GT20 head unit (CD/radio, 40 watts per channel) + unused Sony X-plod 6 x 9" (180w rms/300w peak) speakers, complete with handbook/instructions & leads. £80 + postage. PM me if you're interested.

If the system really did cost 3800 then surely its worth getting a professional to look at it. It may well be that the system was designed to run with subs for the bass hence the cap at 100htz for the cabin speakers. The subs may have been removed when the car was sold on to be sold seperately?

Maybe the speakers are blown or the amps need repairs - I don't know, but even 10 year old stuff should sound decent if its branded stuff and fitted properly.

I wouldn't junk it before you know.
