I've decided! Cause of the crappy roads we have here in Malta, the least I can lower the car to keep the comfy ride is with Sportline suspensions. So anyone know from where I can buy the Sportline suspensions? Any hints will be gratefull! Thanks a lot. |

You can only get Sportline Springs from MB. The dampers are Bilstein Sports shocks so more choice. |

Matt, As someone who owns both a Sportline and a standard car, from my own personal experience, if you are hoping to get a comfy ride from a Sportline set up on bad roads, then this is not recommended. The Sportline doesn't like potholes one bit. It bumps and thumps over them and the ride is fairly hard and unforgiving at low speed on poor road surfaces. It really shines on fast smooth roads where it really does stick with precious little body roll. It's a very expensive operation to change to a Sportline set up. I priced it up about two years ago and it would have cost £1400 + VAT just for the parts alone, excluding labour. One of the best features of the factory fitted Sportline set up is the quicker steering box - the price above doesn't include that. I would counsel against changing from your existing set up for the roads on Malta. A very expensive operation only to find that you may not/don't like it. If at all possible, drive one before you start spending any money. Hope this helps Steve |

Steve, are you sure there isn't something amiss with your suspension? As you know, I have a Sportline 2.6 Auto and it's lovely over rough roads.

Michael, I'm fairly positive there's nothing wrong with my Sportline's suspension. It was all completely replaced only 14k miles and 2 years ago by a well-established, M-B Club recommended specialist, using only the correct genuine M-B Sportline parts. Everything was renewed: shocks, springs, wishbone bushes, ARB bushes, ball joints, tie rods, track control arms. The alloys are proper original 7J 15 hole with quality 205 55 15 tyres. The only things that may need changing in the foreseeable future are the front suspension top mounts (although they look in very good condition). Other than that, I can't see what could affect the ride quality. I find it more uncomfortable than my standard daily driver 2.6 at low speed on poor urban road surfaces - on the open road it's a completely different story, of course. The 1.8 I also have, and the 2.0 I used to have, both have a similar level of comfort to my standard 2.6. It depends on what you're used to, of course, and what your personal preferences are. I'd got used to the smooth (if slightly wallowy) ride of my high mileage daily driver 2.6 before I bought the Sportline, so the stiffer ride took a bit of getting accustomed to. My mother used to holiday every year in Malta and told me about the poor road surfaces. I'm just trying to make sure Matt knows what he might be letting himself in for if he does change his set up. If he can't get to drive a Sportline in Malta, it would be advisable for him to fly here, drive a member's car and make his mind up before parting with his money. I'd certainly have no problem if he wanted to try mine. regards Steve |

Holy cow! Feck the governmant! Not even Sportline susp? For fecks sake!! Damn! I'll have to stick with the standard than for now! I've got a friend whos got a Sportline, but very rarely gets out. I really need to get seeing it again and drive it and i'll see. |

I'm trying the look of the car. But I'm trying as well the best not to make the ride feel hard and harsh! Was thinking about 40mm, but I think that the ride is not that comfy!! So I turned to the Sportline, which resulted to none! |

If the roads are anything like Irish back roads, then I wouldn't lower at all. I went from -40mm, and 17" wheels back up to normal ride height and 15" wheels, with big sidewall "balloony" tyres. The difference in ride quality is amazing. Can't say I've noticed any difference at all in handling, but then I did fit a 16v front ARB at the same time, which probably reduces the body roll as well. I probably could have got away with just the wheels, as I think the 215/40 17" just had too little sidewall to absorb any bumps at all. |

Ohh...A lot of potholes..LOT OF THEM! Every damn street we've got! Have a look! pothole what happens to your car! clic here and have a look to our roads! There are more pictures of different locations (mosta, luqa, zurrieq etc, they are all locations that I pass from these roads!!) Please comment on what type of suspension I really need!

My profile is 55 right now, and I do have comfort mate with standard suspenions, dunno when lowered :/

Matth , those should give you some protection from the Grand Canyon sized holes you have there ....... Can you claim from the local council for the damge , and if so then isn't it just easier for them to fill the holes ...?? Jeremy |

Yes you can claim from the local council for the damage, but the problem is if they will give you something or not! Or if they take any notice of it! I dont drive more than 60km/h, cause I respect the car! Moon driving! |
