Hello everybody. Just joined today. I have fallen head over heals in love with the 190E 2.3 16valve. As I am only 24 the main obstacle seems to be the cost of insurance. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. I really dont want to but a bloody golf like everyone else in uni

Hello and welcome :)

The best bet would be to get some insurance quotes to get an idea what its going to cost. It all depends on how many years no claims etc you have.

Just go to one of the online quote sites. If you need a reg, use the one in my sig ;)

24 shouldn't be too bad, but when I was at uni I had better things to spend my money on than cars...once you've got a decent job then no worries...

got any no claims?

Got 1 year no claims for sure , and the rest of my driving career has been stop start on account of returning to college. As for the money, came into a few quid and have a bit of experience working on 190Es; my Dad had a 3 litre diesel that was barely original at all by the end. I quite fancy something more or less mechanically sound but needing minor stuff eg body work or exhaust doing. As long as the engine is happy so am I

Hi & welcome ,

I have 2 16V's , my 2.5 costs £299 FC , but with full ncb .

I also have a 2.3-16V that is as you want it ,

It is mechanically sound & straight , but needs some rust holes filled (inner wings , jacking points etc.)
It also needs exhaust , and brake lines doing .... I bought it to break , but is definately repairable , if you have the skills with a torch .

Interested ?

Jeremy

Thanks for the offer Jeremy, but as 'll be away from all my heavy tools (at home in Ireland) I'll have to keep repairs a bit lighter than that I'm afraid. A good excuse for not biting off more than I can chew perhaps. I reckon I'll have to travel south to find what I'm looking for, I'm in uni in Aberdeen...
