Basic Wheel and Tyre Question

Hi

I've just had a set of 8-Hole 6.5J x 15 ET44 refurbished.

Firstly, I just wanted to check these will fit my 2.0L 190E ( I assumed they are original spec when I bought them but just wanted to be sure).

Secondly, what tyre recommendations (size and possibly makes?) would forum members suggest?

The car has no suspension modifications and the intention is just normal daily driving activity.

Many thanks in advance.

tyres should be 205/55/15. This is the original tyre size for those wheels

Yes they will fit, as for tyres, 185/65x15 would do it.

I stand corrected, Al is spot on, the standard alloy for the 190, according to the handbook is 7x15 et 44, see the table here and enter all the details.

Many thanks chaps!
The car is currently sitting on some rather 'rough' wheels but with very new (although budget tyres) of 185/65/70. The car is going in for some paintwork next week hopefully. I may run the current wheels and tyres through the winter and put the fresh ones on with 205's when the weather picks up.

Going out now to take some pics of my latest two Mercs:

An R129 SL280....putting it up for sale now. (Some pics already in the "Gallery" section of my website)

Also, my 'new' C55 AMG Estate.

If I can convince my wife I'll get her to help put some pics up tonight.

Many thanks again for the wheel and tyre advice!

It isn't.
185/65/15 is the correct size for 15x6.5" wheels.
205/55/15 is (technically) for the wider 15x7" wheels.

That said, on 15x6.5s I'd run 205/55/15s, because they'll look better, and handle better.
The downsides are slightly decreased MPG, and increased tyre noise. Only slightly though.

Oddly, even the Owner's Manual from my 1993 car doesn't list the required tyres for 15x6.5" alloys.
However, my car (and most others I've seen on stock 'narrow' 8-holes) ran on 185/65/15 Continentals from manufacture.
The dead giveaway (usually) is what's fitted to your spare wheel.

Thanks again!
So if I went with 205's there should be no rubbing issues with these wheels? Does anyone have pics of a car with 205's on?

Late in the day...but have also posted pics of 3 of my Mercs (hopefully the 190E will also finally be there soon!) on my website:

The A160 is for sale in the "For Sale" section and the SL280 will be soon hopefully as well once serviced and a slight water leak sorted.

Many thanks again

When I bought my car it had 205/60/15 tyres on with ET42 wheels, no rubbing at all, this is the only picture I have.

Hmmm...Yes, nice! That does look 'beefier' than mine currently looks on 185 65's.

I think 205 55 will be the way I go.

Many thanks for the photo!
