Hi there, My 190e 2.6 seems to have developed a steering wobble specifically on braking from around 60mph. Its quite a severe wobble on the steering wheel. I replaced the steering damper as It was only 20 quid and thought it might help. The old one was completely shot, and the problem seems to have improved slightly but is still apparent. Anybody have any ideas as to what it may be? Thanks for any help. Tom. |

Would that not be a specific wobble varying with speed? This seems to only be apparent just either side of 60. and most powerful at 60mph itself. Edited by whatleytom, Fri Sep 4, 2009 6:28 pm.

Ah ok I'll have a look then. I remember the pads have a lot left on them, is there anything against just doing discs, or should pads be done at the same time always? Thanks, Tom. |

I'd check all the ball joints and bushes on the steering too. Warped discs are normally felt through the pedal as well as the steering. Not always though. |

this is partially true.................but the problems arise nowadays with cars that have ABS,people do feel it through the pedal but quite often mistake it for ABS kicking in on harsh braking......................thats the mistake my dad made.................now i dont have any cars with ABS,so i noticed it straight away ![]() |

hi tom, the first thing i would check is balancing on the front wheels (you may have lost a weight and this is often only apparent on higher speeds ) , cheap to check. also check your tyres while youre at it , you may have developed a tyre bulge on inside of tyre , happens more on inside that outside. had similar symptoms on w124 coupe and turned out to be tyre bulge inside front left tyre. then check balljoints/bushes and discs (as per "stwat" normally felt at pedal) p.s dont go cheap and cheerful discs ,they are the quickest to warp. partcularily in wet weather i.e you're heating cheap discs alot when you brake heavy from high speeds ,and with our huge amounts of wet weather the wet roads & splashing cool them too rapidly and distort easily. (i only got 3000 miles out a set of cheap spurious discs, they're false economy, second set .. good quality set still perfect 8000 later) plus cheap pads cause warping as well. |
