exhaust question; replacing back box

hi,
my car has recently started to blow and gurgle and burp etc. at the back box. i had a look underneath to see about replacing it but it seems that the exhaust runs all the way through the middle box to the back box witout any joins etc. that could be undone to replace the back box only.
am i missing something or do i have to buy a complete new system in order to replace the back box or how does it work?

i have never tackled an exhaust before so kinda new to learning about what to do.

thanks

the rear section is a seperate part to the rest unless someone has fitted something non original
it should have a join just in front of back box

well if there isn't one it's none original and you will need to take it to an exhaust shop/maker and get it made up
i think member philj can make one up for you

it's an easy job to remove.

I'd whip it off and see if it can be repaired.

4 x 13mm bolts at the headers.....I use a 1/8th ratchet with long bars as it fits past the pipes and straight on to the bolts...easy.

then 2 x 13mm bolts under the gearbox, a tap on the bracket and it should separate, then drop it off the rubber hangars.

as it's in 1 piece it'll be heavy and awkward but no more than an hours work.

I don't know what engine your car has moobarr but the exhaust systems generally all look like this.

The back box section joins at the middle box, not directly behind the back box.

I checked my exhaust last night and it is just one piece. ie. centre and back box are connected by one pipe. Now I am having to replace both boxes.
Checked the service history as well and it seems that the exhaust was replaced in 2001 by a MB dealer.
