had the steering box and all linkages at the front changed as part of the rebuild, afterwards though the car drive's in a straight line fine but if u turn slightly to the left or right it stays driving in that direction, ever so slightly though. its like its got tow out but i got the tracking done after it was fitted then had a full geometry check and all the specifications are well withing spec so on paper it should not be doing it....i got a print out from them too to check.

however it's not as bad now as it was before the geometry was done.

im a little confused as to whats causing it, all parts used were genuine MB correct for the car including the steering box.

any ideas or even better a cure will be much apreciated as i cant chuck it round corners at the mo and its somewhat boring :(

Hi,

Couple of thoughts on it-

1/ do you have air in the P/S Lines ?

2/ is the pressure valve in the P/S
pump set and working correctly ?

3/ is the steering coupler on the
splines tightened correctly ?

4/ was the geo all completed after the car had
settled back on its suspension for a couple
of days ?

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Mercs like a lot of caster: 10deg30" on the 16V and 11deg30" on an EVO.

Try adding 1 or 1.5degree of caster to each side. It will increase the steering effort slightly but have a positive effect on straight line recovery; ie encourage the wheels to return to a straight position and probably eliminate the annoying residual pull you describe.

bobf.

Nick

Might be worth a trip to Wheels in motion, they have a very good reputation for setting cars up, and did a cracking job on a friends track MX5.
